Meth addiction actually destroyed my life for over 26 years. Also suffered severe depression and mental disorder. Not until my wife recommended me to psilocybin mushrooms treatment. Psilocybin treatment actually saved my life honestly. 4 years totally clean. Never thought I would be saying this about mushrooms.
they saved you from death bud, lets be honest here. and mushrooms are one of the most amazing things on this planet i wish people would all realize. they could solve a lot of problems, more than just mental treatments, environmental clean up; the possibilities are endless with fungus.

March 16th will be 5 years clean. Fentanyl. No one ever told me how fast you can turn your life around. I wish I knew how fast you got your life back. I probably would have sobered up a lot sooner. Things just kind of fall into place when you're doing the right thing.

@@jalifritz8033 Thanks. It was a freaking nightmare. And I do my best to put word out there that life can turn around really fast. If anybody's reading this and struggling with addiction my advice to you is Don't Look Back. All these psychologists and classes that have you sitting around telling war stories looking at all the stupid mistakes you made. This is detrimental. My advice is to not look back. Focus on what's in front of you and tomorrow. Don't live in the past. Baby steps. Think about what you can do today to make tomorrow slightly better. Even if you think it's insignificant.. It adds up really fast.
Been there. I personally had to "reraise" myself, become my own cheerleader and isolate myself from just about everyone. I keep it simple, eat healthy, exercise and sleep well.
Your right it is baby steps, and you have to "baby" yourself to stay well.
No matter how much anyone screwed up there life they can do better.

@@karlwashere123 Wow, we have more in common than I knew. Many abused children go on to abuse themselves. They think they are less than. I just feels normal...ect.. but I think. God knows what we've been through and is forgiving.I have learned to love myself in spite of my flaws.Had to learn to let go of a lot of anger.

The children break my heart. My mom was a meth addict. No child should ever go through the horror and neglect of living with parents on meth. We used to pray to be put in foster care, but the courts always made us go back to our mom. It didn't matter what she did. When I was 15, I ran away and ended up in a shelter for teens. I begged to be able to stay there, but they made me go back to my mom. Every single time.
I wish there were laws where a parent with a meth history had to get tested every 3 days in order to keep their kids.
One of the sickest parts is the only reason the parents even want the kids is for the welfare money and the food stamps they can sell for cash or trade for drugs. My sisters and I would steal some of the food stamps from her purse so we could sneal and get food. Unfortunately, we couldn't get hot food. I remember once my sister stole one of those warm cooked chickens from the store since we couldn't get it with the food stamps. We hid in the bushes and devoured that thing. Now, they have the debit card for food stamps, so kids can't steal the food stamps like we did to buy food.
Sorry you had to go through all that. The system sucks. Kids who have every reason to want to get out are sent back and families who have done nothing wrong get their kids taken away and put with people who abuse them. I hope things are better for you these days.
The philosophy of reuniting families has its upsides, but you're a perfect example of when it fails. Adults need to listen to kids.
I don't understand why you can't get hot food with SNAP. Those chickens in particular. You can buy nothing but junk, yet hot food is off limits? I also hate that they don't make exemptions for non-food necessities like toilet paper and tampons all
It's so sad that the child welfare system today pushes for family reunificationat all costs. Then you have girls on TikTok proclaiming that all children should go back to their bio parents instead of being adopted out of the foster care system and their dumb followers parrot those talking points. I don't understand why people want to send innocent children back to their abusers over and over again instead of giving them a safe, stable home.
This is so true I went through the same thing. Was used for child support and food stamps. And to be a baby sister to my younger siblings. They took me out of school in 4th grade to “homeschool me” when in reality I baby sat a newborn baby untill she was old enough to go to school herself. Nobody seemed to care though

Watching this documentary now in 2024 while living in Portland OR is wild!! They had no idea how bad it was actually going to get. It’s so heartbreaking.
Is it that bad ? In my country people are only exposed to MJ, I've never even seen someone on harder drugs. It's incredible to see what's happening in the US from a foreigner's pov
The issue with Oregon's solution is that it worked on the assumption that drug cartels wouldn't move production into Mexico. This assumption ultimately proved incorrect. Turns out it was just a bandaid solution. I'm glad I don't live in Oregon and can get pseudoephedrine behind the counter.
@@CatroiOz It kind of depends on where you live. Where I live I almost never see people strung out on meth but I know it happens. When I recently visited Los Angeles for a few days I saw at least 2 or 3 people on something making them tweak out. The US is a huge and very diverse country, so this is the case for pretty much everything.

A woman I knew tried to get me to try some meth. I refused and she said "Try it, you might like it." I said "I know, that's why I'm not trying it."

Excellent documentary! I'm a long time critical care and nursing generalist who chose to start working in a detox setting. Understanding better how we got to where we are has helped me immensely.

Here in Hawaii it’s very bad, my mom and dad both died young due to their addiction to meth. It’s kind of a double edged sword, on one side it ripped our family apart, on the other it also made me despise anything and everything about drugs.
Instead of using my bad childhood upbringing as an excuse, I use it as motivation and vowed to be the best parent I can be to my daughter. It’s just sad my parents couldn’t kick their addiction and watch her grow up. Dad died a few years before she was born and mom died a couple months after she was born.

Grew up with a mother who was addicted. In Oregon as well actually. She has been clean since I was about 10, so over 13 years now. I just want to say, all those people who have overcome addiction, your current and future families thank you. I thank you. And if you haven’t yet, I love you, you can get better.

My mom was meth head and horse junkie, the first 12 yrs if my life, what a shit show. Then she cleaned up got and stayed sober... to this day I have tried Lotta of drugs, luckily for me I don't like feeling out of my head. So I guess I'm a teetotaler, I don't use drugs, don't even take prescription pain pills, and rarely drunk.
My dad lost his mind on that stuff. Pulled a gun on me and mom causing us to flee for our life from ID to WA over night.
One of the most difficult times in my life even just adjusting to the culture shock. Fortunately my dad was arrested 2 years later and forced to stay clean on probation or risk losing everything including his house.
Long story short he stuck with it and my parents got remarried and I got to actually have a great father for the last 6 years of his life.

I have sent myself to hell n back a thousand times on meth it is the devils drug
I started using that year and I was on and off until I was 26. Today I can proudly say I am 17 years clean from meth.
I hope my mom can get clean from meth. My children don’t even know her. I miss her so much she’s been an addict my whole life but the meth addiction got bad about 9 years ago when she moved away. I just wish she would come home so I could help her somehow
I beat Meth addiction 16 years ago. Haven't looked back since. It is a battle I will fight till the day I die. The addiction lies in wait, just hoping for the day you get weak and run back to the drug. It tried to steal my life and soul. But I fought back...and have been winning the battle. Don't let your guard down. Remember where you came from...don't forget the misery and heartache you caused yourself and those who cared about you.

@Shell m well, I was a normal teenager that did well in school. After graduating, alot of us started partying alot drinking and doing blow. I knew it's reputation of course and swore I'd never touch that stuff. Well one night while waiting for a friend to pick me up to go get more blow...I was hanging with a security guard I knew who worked in a building at the end of my street for years. He smoked meth. He laughed when I said I was waiting for coke and said to "try this instead" so like a dumbass, I tried it and LOVED it! The rest was history. That night was the beginning of the end for me. I eventually ended up getting locked up a few times and all kinds of drama came into my life. That stuff is GUARANTEED to destroy you and whatever sense of normalcy you had in your life. It doesn't care if you are rich or poor or what race, religion or whatever you are. Meth WILL destroy you. Stay the hell away from it and anyone who does it.
Im 2years sober and still lack pleasure, feel gray and off, through the grace of God i stay clean.. God helped me go through 18months of rehab and has been with me through everything im so grateful for that...

@@Ken_Mags I got myself into rehab back in 2008. I had relapsed 10 times before this final time. I’m on a low dose of subs. Most people don’t like that but it keeps me on track. It also helps to find a hobby to keep you busy.
My youngest son is a meth addict. I cry a lot and I pray for his sake. GOD HELP US.

There is hope. Both my grandkids beat it.
My faith in God is strong but if prayer isn't working my suggestion would be to slowly integrate yourself back into his life. I'm not your son but I might as well be and can tell you from firsthand experience there is a difference between tough love and abandonment. Helping someone with a ride or food or a place to sleep does not make you an enabler, it lessons the chance of that person turning to alternative methods when faced with those obstacles. If you can cross that bridge it's in these moments that you may gain a little influence. Combine your influence with specific prayers for best results. Of course trust being an issue in all situations not just drug-related I would only give enough rope to trip oneself and not to hang. May God be with you and grant you all that is needed from within. Expect and believe in miracles.
I grew up in Portland but left in 1978. My husband still works in Portland several months out of the year. It’s so tragic to see this!

Cop here; the problem with alot of these drug law enforcement types is that they fail to consider the response when / if they "win" against a certain cartel or drug. Drugs are a hydra, you will never defeat. For (some) very intelligent people working around law enforcement, its shocking to see the lack of foresight when positioning funding towards such frivolous endeavours. Congrats man, you got rid of quaaludes, and spawned every other evils.
I was thinking the same thing while watching that part. The DEA guy was completely deluded. Meth is being used is on an entirely different scale and has been for a loooong time. Besides preventing a couple dozen factories to stop delivering a very specialized chemical ingredient to Columbia is entirely different from shutting down access of everyday Americans to an over the counter product available im abundance WORLDWIDE. Even if the law would've gone through, you'd have cooks using Mexican or Canadian ingredients in a hearbeat. These days a criminal organization could probably find a sketchy factory in China to smuggle the compounds needed for cooking directly to the USA.
The Drug problem needs to be tackled in a different way, with law enforcement playing only one small part of a greater solution. Easier said than done, but there is truly no other way. The DEA will never 'win' against drugs, especially not in an increasingly multipolar world.

There is a prescription form of methamphetamine & I don't know why addicts can't be hospitalized & "weaned" safely before they get that bad- like methadone clinics
I’m the mother grandmother of a ice addicted daughter it’s devastating and hard to comprehend why my daughter has disowned her own daughters, just breaks my heart I can honestly say if I was asked to transport meth for $5,000000 I wouldn’t even flinch to do so after seeing the devastating effects of my daughter and grandchildren.

Like outsourcing quality jobs and smashing unions so every working person makes bare minimum wage and is enslaved to the corporate hell machine. Workers at Amazon and Starbucks are rising up though. We may indeed see an age where working people are treated with respect. Drugs are often a disease of despair, its not hard to wonder why when you look at what middle class people have been through.

I have a 19-year-old granddaughter that is currently fighting for her life because of the Meth. She went from a beautiful, intelligent, loving, young woman to a meth zombie in a very short time. She was addicted immediately and within a month went from snorting to smoking it and all hell broke loose. Our family will never be the same because of all the trauma she inflicted upon us for over a year. She is currently in detox. She has a very long and bumpy road ahead to recovery. I will give her all the moral support I can. I will never abandon her. I will love on her and encourage her to stay on a path that is healthy and happy. For all the families that have a loved one who is addicted, please never give up hope. There is light at the end of the tunnel.

There is a light at the end of the tunnel. 20 years ago, my family supported me the way you are supporting your granddaughter. I have 2 wonderful children, a job I really enjoy, and my parents tell me all the time how proud of me they are. The love of my family and friends is what helped me get and stay sober.
This is a follow up to my post 8 months ago. My granddaughter is doing well. She continues weekly therapy with mental health counselors, a social worker who specializes in young women with trauma. She is not 100 % but with ongoing care, love/support from family she continues to heal. She is working part time and living with her father. Please understand the recovery from Meth is a very long process.
As I turn 70 my wish is to have my granddaughter healthy and happy.
I live in Australia and was addicted by IV to meth for 17 years, but the latter part was ice. I'm now clean over 2 years. I didn't realize that meth changed the brain in that getting clean one experienced anxiety, depression etc. Explains my negativity and going down worm holes because everything was grey. It's only been the last few months that I'm mentally well, but it has taken a lot of therapy. When I started 2004, it was believed meth wasn't addictive despite addicts clearly craving it. That life I had - you are not in control: drugs control you. I was fortunate never to have experienced psychosis or the 'sores' from picking, but I did look 15 years older weighed 15kg less and it was a toxic false lie meth fed. I was an addict for 5yrs and been clean for 16yrs now. Meth will make you turn on those you love, even yourself. One day I just took a good long look at myself and those I was associating with and said I can’t do this anymore. I realized I was losing myself and heading straight to prison or hell for no reason. Now I’m a successful business owner, shareholder, and live for my two little nephews who mean the world to me.

You are a Beautiful soul. Love yourself for where you are right now in this moment. You are not bad, evil disgusting,"worthless, ugly or any less Of a human being. You are a strong and beautiful person who not only is fighting an addiction but is doing so with zero dignity. The battle is much easier when you love what you are fighting for. Love your self and be kind to your self. I personally think that the way this drug is and has been portrayed has played a huge part in an already broken system. Shame has never been a good or healthy motivator for one to want to get sober. Much love to you and all my fellow beings. Love is the answer folks. The kind of radical love that breaks down the stigmas and judgements the we humans are placing and allowing to be placed on our fellow human beings. Getting clean is SO hard, but you got this! I used to be horribly addicted to heroin and the needle.. There is life in recovery tho 🙏 and don't be discouraged or give up when you relapse. Everyone does. Relapsing is a part of the process to getting sober. It will happen, and when it does, don't allow it to consume you. Pick yourself back up and keep going. Go to N/A, work the 12 steps, reach out to your loved ones and/or your higher power for strength. I believe in you.

God and his universe filled with so much that we can't fathom be always with you, give your suffering to God, or anything you feel is your rock, I have struggled with the same demons and I can understand, plus COVID did not help, but I can say this, the feeling is amazing and it's not easy, but the path of positive and good is difficult, but rewarding in a way that is impossible to describe, it isn't a promise of a ridiculous number of virgins or anything unrealistic like that, I can only say it's an inner peace and harmony that you will feel, n after I only wanted to evolve more to do more, and I love the labor now.. you can do it and you will I promise. It's not easy like I said, and it is really easy to get into the shit again, it literally just comes to your feet and still does for me.. probably always will. I prefer not to go back.. and I'm grateful for being able to say this after 20+ years of being a zombie.. not everyone gets to live... I send you only positive vibes and I pray for you to see and hear clear that you can make the best of choices for you and the ones that love you.💪🙏💯

My little brother died after going on a binge. He had been sober for a year and a half. He didn't get sober willingly and after he was released from his program he relapsed. He was so ate up and he really wanted to be better. After we lost my sister and mom we both went crazy. I moved away and stayed away from all my old friends. I begged him to do the same. I miss my family and I'm so grateful I didn't lose my kid's from the drug use. It's been 7 years since I have used. I would never go back to that miserable existence.
I remember in about 2005, walking into a Meijer pharmacy and seeing 30 pill box of pseudoephedrine on the shelf for $2.99. As someone who had bad allergies, it was a godsent, but in retrospect I can't believe it was that easy to get your hands on.

As a former user, (clean from meth since 1997, I'm 50 ), I had to move from my childhood home in Los Angeles to central Indiana to get away from it all and start over. It was one of the hardest things I've had to do to save myself
this is a romantic and ultimately unrealistic success story that has basically zero statistical backing. i'm glad you overcame yourself by moving your self to a new location, but i really struggle to believe someone who says this type of shit. there must be more to the story, or you would have just brought your old self with you to the new location. you provide here a success story with absolutely zero indication that "doing something really hard" actually means hard commitments to the self and doing things we know are right even when it might feel wrong to the twisted self.

I remember when this hit. I graduated in 1994. It was pretty rare in my state. My sister graduated in 2000. All her friends were on it. We are still seeing her friends and classmates going to jail because of meth related crimes. Once it showed up, a generation of kids became hooked. It was really bad with teenagers here in my state.

I will _never be able to forget_ both how amazing it felt, and how the comedown made me want to dive out of the window.
The only thing stopping me was that any movement was impossibly painful. Not in my muscles, but in my head.
It's a small miracle that I'm here to say this, and I'm even luckier that I didn't need any help to quit.

She uses weed to substitute but says it's not the answer . Life will get better . Every time she thinks about it, she says she thinks of her husband,home, grandchildren. The best way and the only way to get off meth and staying away from meth is losing all of the friends that do it....misery loves company. Start hanging out with friends that do not use drugs.
there are no friends on meth - only acquaintances, co-conspirators, fuck buddies and marks - once you leave meth those people don't matter anymore even if you want them to

Was nearly a decade on meth, this drug is really the "Devil's Drug". Sober for 2 years now. To people who haven't yet kick this deadly addiction I believe in you. If I could do it, trust me, you can too.
@@alienno.9 Bro, I FEEL you! I was in the same boat, well sorta. The first Year, every once in a while I would dream about it as well, but In my dreams I only dream of picking up the piece but never smoke from it. And in reality I've picked up the dick pipe on a few occasions and I felt no urge to smoke it. In fact, the opposite occurred. I felt completely repulsed by holding it bc it reminded me of all the anxiety, psychosis, delusions, hallucinations and isolation from when I was high off my mind.
I will note that, doing a large dose of magic mushrooms after 2 months of sobriety, helped me completely to rid of my addiction and thoughts of meth. However I don't recommend this to anyone bc a bad trip is more likely than not. Although, If they truly want to quit from it for good, I think magic mushrooms can be one of the most useful tools in doing so.
Anyway, Alien, hang in there brother. I've known people who quit and get back on it immediately. Its a vicious cycle. So you're doing great, A year and a half is quite is a HUGE milestone. Be proud of that.
Lastly, One of the best natural methods is to Incorporate some type of daily physical exercise into your life and things will get easier, I promise you. By the 2 year mark you won't have any lingering thoughts of the Devil's Drug.

Someone very special that I know has been on meth for over a decade and I have tried to help him but he gives up easily the most he sober was for two weeks then later, he relapsed. He goes thru everything you used to go thru including anger issues when he is sober. He was trying to be sober for me but I don't think it was ever from his own will. If I ever talk to him again I will show him your advice on how you started recovering maybe there is still hope for him but again it has to be from his own will not from mine and I had to learn that the hard way. I been through opiate addiction for about 21 years plus, after I see the pain and suffering I was causing my family I decided it's time to stop I gotta stop my family is going through he'll because of my actions, I found myself in a detox center but after 1 month I was released from detox but within a week I was calling dealers up for a hit, well after about 3 tries at detox and that not working they decided I needed rehabilitation but away from London uk, I was sent to North Scotland right out the way from civil life I mean remote, anyway it worked but it took 2 years at rehabilitation and I've been clean ever since 22 years now 👍🇬🇧💯

I have always heard about the recurring meth-flashbacks, but never experienced one until last night… I woke up in a cold sweat from a NIGHTMARE, I literally (and I hate using this word) felt like I had the stem of a bolo in my mouth and my mouth was metallic and dry when I finally woke up.

February 12 will be 3 years clean from meth. After being up for 4 days, I had a stroke and have heart failure from using. I was very lucky for I fully recovered, however not everyone does. My brother, now 33, went into war at 17. He became a expert jump sniper by 19. While in Afghanistan, his convoy was attacked over 9 times. His best friend was killed in action and my brother was awarded a purple heart for his friend. My brother had to have a metal plate put in his face. While at home in Georgia, he couldn't cope, started drinking and wrapped his brand new charger around a tree, got locked up and dishonorably discharged. From then, he started using and selling meth. Then began going to jail and prison. Both his parents were addicts, but our mom didn't raise him as her and I stayed in Cali. He finally got clean after almost 10 years of active addiction. It blows my mind how little our armed forces get for help if they mess up
I'll bet you stood alongside him, too. The things you guys have witnessed? Seeing people at their most evil coming at you? Yeah, living with PTSD successfully can't be done alone. We aren't here on earth to be addicts. You have that gift from God now, I'll bet, you're a Wounded Healer. PTSD here too. Yelled, screamed at God many, many times - Why??? Once I shut up, he said, go and absorb whatever pain you can from someone who just got to where you once were. The gift of suffering is the grace you now have to remove even a molecule of another's pain by just being there silently and without judgement.

I only did it for a couple of years, but the way it took me over and changed me entirely was scarey. I eventually sold or traded everything of value that I owned and then started stealing from my family to get more. Never understood beforehand when I'd hear that the drug would turn you into a different person. That drug took me to the lowest point of my life. Ive been clean for years but still dream about it and wake up tasting it. That stuff is the devil.

I tried meth a couple times and I have to say the amount of fun you get really isn’t worth it, here’s what I experienced on meth
I had huge steady stream of energy, my eyes were glued open, I was extremely cold, even when I hopped into a hot shower it wasn’t warm, I had a lot of pain resistance, so much so I was able to straight up ashtray myself and I didn’t feel a thing.
The biggest thing about it was that it made me extremely anxious, I never felt really that good because I was so fuckin anxious. Not fun
All that said the addictiveness of meth is super dependent on who you are, and I’m not currently using meth and don’t plan to again because the whole experience was more traumatizing then fun.

In Connecticut I struggle with fentanyl and cocain addiction because meth isn't huge around here but I can say that when I have done meth I engaged in veeeeery disastrous behavior. Sexual especially. I was clean for 11 months and I used yesterday and man I woke up today and almost lost my will to surrender altogether. ( surrender in a good way) but the look on my mother's face. Her loving warm smile helped me choose.
My sister was addicted. It completely changes you as a person and makes you into the worst version of yourself. She’s been clean for years now but we’re still working on fixing our relationship.

Same here, almost 8 years sober for me. Mine was H though, I always heard the withdrawals and come down from meth were horrific and that scared me enough to never try it but only one time ever. I sadly found this absolute evil , really young and i'm still going through it's addiction and i've never regretted anything so much as finding this when i was in my toughest period of life. I was dealing with a lot of trauma and insecurities... And i'm getting better and better. And i hope every addicted person and myself find happiness in life and wouldn't let any drug to fully destroy their life! 💔
I grew up watching one of my closest family members get addicted to meth. I also grew up seeing how meth took over some of my friends i had. No matter what I did or what help was offered, or how much i prayed. That person and my friends would not listen. It got to the point where I saw them literally change over time in appearance. How each one began to lose their normal lives and family they had, and how they affected others. It was hard to see and very painful. I decided to separate myself from those friends even though it hurt me. They began to call my phone and look for me desperately. I ended up finding out they were so high they wanted me to come by, so they steal my car and have me beat up by random girls. I never showed up. As for my family member, I began to slowly separate myself from that person. Before I did, this person tried to kill me. By poisoning me with an overdose of Meth. The amount that this person gave me was for 3 people. I never did meth before. I almost died. Thank God I didn't. I'm learning to forgive. But I Cannot forget. I send love, healing, and prayers to everyone on here, and in this world, being affected by this. May God give us strength and healing to make it through. For these truly are the darkest of times. Yet I feel we can still fight to make it right again. ❤❤❤
That’s honestly tragic, so sorry you had to go through such an unfortunate situation. You mind if I ask, did you ever end up getting your car back? I hope so.
And damn, about that poisoning, that’s messed up. How did they poison you..? And I can only imagine what the come down must had been like..☹️

I just want to say how proud I am of each and everyone of you that have overcome your addiction. To the ones still struggling, hang in there… you CAN get clean. Keep fighting for your sobriety, your life, your family and children.

@@richardvandenbosch9683 You are right ,but remember it's not your fault that happened,and there are many broken hearts club members across the country,I'm one different drug but same results my father tried to kill me with a extention cord around my neck,I was 12yrs old,I was on my own at 15yrs old,and it wasn't easy to go to school and go to work for 12hours,no friends,no life

I absolutely love to hear about an addict recovering from drug addiction. My son was not so lucky and I miss him terribly now he is not alive anymore. Please people, get help before it takes your life like it did my sons life. He was one of those that had no money, no insurance and we did all we could do. He fell thru the insurance crack and died.
My son is 36 living in another state addicted to meth and homeless..

My brother has been to jail, because he got caught cooking the junk. He was clean while he was on probation. He is on it again. He’s never going to change. He will be 52 this month. I’ll never be free.
Laura I am truly sorry for your situation I lost my youngest son to this poison,he got so crazy on this stuff that he gave up on his self and committed suicide at age 32. I will remember you and your brother as well as the rest of your family when I say my prayers , I sincerely wish you and yours the best of luck 🍀. There is a lot of help out there don’t give up!🕊

I have a friend of mine who uses drugs.. He let me see how to use it and what the effect of it.. He got high and love six.. He have 5 eldest children to different women..
He advices me to stay away from drugs especially i am a girl.. He added that when a girl uses drugs she is a commodity for sex, dirtiest than mud... And i took his advice seriously... Im a drunkard for 2yrs.and smoke for 2times..after that i keep myself clean... Having a healthy body will gives us healthy mind... God bless to all
