Being homeless in San Francisco is hard. You have to sleep in decent neighborhoods to avoid trouble. I lost my residence last year after being in a freak accident on the job.
I get work comp , but no city services. I use the money from work comp that to buy food.
I'm currently in an 8 week FRP Program from my doctor's office. That program pays for a hotel Mon-Fri.
Weekends are outside. I have 5 weeks left in the FRP Program, after that it's back on the streets. I'm a minimalist regardless, makes living outside easier. I don't believe I am going to be homeless forever, but I accept the fact that it happened. I would definitely accept help or services if they were offered. I am interested in permanent housing.

  • @ryanmiller4096
    @ryanmiller4096 7 месяцев назад +6

I was homeless for two years in my car.
I had a job, went to college and had over 5000 saved. Nobody would rent to me being 19 in an area with not enough homes.
I saw local kids couch surf, move into garages and living rooms.
Ultimately most had to leave area.
My first apt in socal i had to pay 6 months in full to be accepted, about 9000 bucks.
Now these similar issues have spread across west coast.
    We need to build.
1% housing shortage raises rent over 10%.

The sad part it wasn't that long ago when people could work at a mom and pop grocery store and be able to afford an apartment on your own. Nowadays the minimum income requirement to qualify for a 1 bed/studio in California is 60,000 year. 2,000 a month with a now 3× requirement for most places. Now it takes several people just to rent anything.

I live out west (Not California) or any coast state, my work is begging to hire people starting at 14.00 an hour.. The US is at "Full employment". Any time it gets in the 3% range. When I decided to go homeless I went to the woods. I volunteered at a catholic soup kitchen and got everything I needed from that kitchen. I lived very good out there and showered at the church. That luxury isn't available for everyone but let me say this that position that I got at the church was open until I got there and nobody tried to fill it till I got there. But I lived great in a large tent I had vegetables, fruit, bacon, eggs anything I wanted. I lived next to the river and would wash clothes or just hang out when it was hot . I could see the busy freeway from where I was at and remember thinking about all those people going coming from work or daycare from one boss to another. The bullshit of society drove me to leave society. But I'm back since I learned my father was dying. So I came back to be with him and my grown children convinced me to stay so here I am.

Im talking about the depletion of the rain forests and the extinction of wildlife. Im talking about fossil fuels causing a rise in temperature. Im talking about the plastic ocean, and the dying corals. Im talking about the selling off of the Amazon forests, and the fracking of our lands for gas and oil. Pesticides, Panama Papers, yada yada yada ...I often say, capitalism is a shit-where-you-eat system, and it continually proves this to be true.
Look, if you are going to have a world economic system, should it not be held responsible for every economic problem that it has under it? Annually, the system of capitalism hovers around 82% of all capital being stolen from nature (mined, harvested, drilled, etc). Answer me this, as Sir David Attenborough often asks, how do you expect to have infinite growth, as per capitalism, on a finite planet, the earth?
Homelessness too, is just another incompetency of the systemically flawed economic method we have come to know as capitalism.

I worked in H.R. for 50 years and watched the decline of middle class jobs as the corrupt politicians sold us out (both parties) sent the manufacturing and labor over seas. This gave the owners/CEO billions instead of millions, while the middle class declined. I live in CA and at one time, in Long Beach, we had the McDonald Douglas Airplane Co., who employed 40 thousand employees. Now, the large plant and buildings were leveled and they built condos, some small businesses, etc. California budgets billions for the homeless and nothing ever happens. The corrupt dem politicians, spend the money doing research on how to spend the billions, yet never spend the billions on the homeless. Newsom allows a stipend to the homeless and many spend the money on drugs and also receive free drug kits, with needles, etc. The druggies are not required to attend rehab. The whole U.S. have declined due to the corrupt politicians who sold out to big business. The only jobs left are fast food, clerk, housekeeping and low paying. Bring back the middle class jobs, i.e. manufacturing cars in Detroit, shoes in St. Louis, steel in Cleveland, airplanes in Los Angeles, on and on. The loss of the middle class work, caused those once great cities to become ghettos. Dirty politicians.

      Elephant In The Room
      I doubt that.
They are just renting out a place to stay. Maybe some greed.
The fee is laid out to you the papers are their to read before signing. If the lease is up or no lease they can raise the rent just like anywhere else.
You're conning yourself when you don't read the fine print and pay attention.
Then you have supply and demand in real estate with people that are willing to pay over a million for homes there that cost $60k to $250k where I live.
And it's your choice to keep staying in one of the most expensive areas of the U.S.. I don't get it.
Smart people have left that place already.
My sister finally left California after 10 years. She never could get ahead there.
She left long before her money was completely gone and living in the streets. She's doing fine now in Virginia.
Had a job lined up before she got there.
There's a lot of age discrimination in the job market as well in California.
The funny thing is people in California still tease me about where I live. Saying i live in a third world country and whatnot. But my place would be over a million there and I live in an upper middle class area in a home paid off in 10 years. My entire household expenses including home/car insurance and personal property tax is just over $1250/mo.. on my $1500/mo. budget.
My take home pay is over $6k/mo. and I'm completely debt free.
Never see tent cities and slums here like that.

gary gerard - Thats funny, I pick up any change I find, even pennies - lol - I saved & scrimped to buy my own beautiful home in a safe & wonderful neighborhood with a 30% deposit, it’s doubled in value in 3 1/2 years where I live in Central CA. I don’t drink or do drugs; I don’t gamble or buy lottery tickets; I shop at thrift stores for clothes, shoes, household items, just about everything even Xmas & birthday gifts since many items & clothes are in excellent condition & have tags in them. I don’t go out to eat, I make my own coffee & iced tea; I eat healthy at home with lots of salads, fruits & veges; I seldom eat meat, if I do it’s a roast or chicken in the crockpot which lasts me for days; I combine errands & doctor appts so I don’t waste gas & wear & tear on my cars ( I have two, but selling one of them); I only drive my car 2 or 3 times per week; I live near two discount grocery stores, so often I walk there; my AC just broke down, but I have a portable cooler if it gets too hot, saves a ton of money not having AC on my electric bill!! There’s many ways to save but living within your means is Rule No 1 - I think most of these homeless are strung out on drugs & alcohol ( you can tell) & many are mentally ill or criminals looking for easy targets; some may have fallen on hard times, but very few in my opinion. Iam truly blessed, thankjng the Lord everyday & praying for the people who aren’t as fortunate as Iam

But I noticed that many people slept in a well lit area in the same colored sleeping bags that were spaced out every 10 feet or so. It seemed like some sort of city program? There were no garbage or tents in this specific downtown area and I noticed security guards would walk around monitoring these particular blocks. Is this a some type of 'sleeping safe' situation for certain people that 'qualify'??? I've always been curious about that set up.
Side note: yes I did also notice a very large fenced in tent city area just on the perimeter of the city near the mural district area.

michael guild I live in Los Angeles. The homeless problem is even worse in Los Angeles, San Diego...throughout California. You don’t find homeless illegal alien Hispanics, Latinos, Asians, and Filipinos, on the streets. Why?
Well, the Zionist, communist Democrats, along with the Zionist communist Democrats Nancy Pelosi, Dianne Feinstein, and Maxine Waters, packed the Welfare offices with Hispanics, Latinos, Asian, and Filipino case workers. Those case workers give the affordable housing, food stamps, housing vouchers, etc., to illegal alien Hispanics, Latinos, Asians, and Filipinos! Also, there are millions of affordable housing units. They are being saved for the millions more illegal aliens that the Democrats plan to help smuggle into the US. There are currently 5 million illegal aliens in Los Angeles, and 15 million throughout California. Also, the schools in California are made up of 80 percent Hispanics, Latinos, Asians, and Filipinos!
The California communist politicians Pelosi, Feinstein, and Maxine Waters, are fighting President Trump’s plan to build a Wall. Those three pieces of scum want millions more illegal aliens to invade California. They want that illegal alien vote.
They are also making profits on the legalization of child prostitution in California. Communist governor Jerry Brown signed SB1322, legalizing child prostitution for infants to 18 years old!
Those three pieces of trash keep getting back in office through voter fraud, the Zionist communist media promoting them, and because Californians feel like they cannot run a successful campaign against them. That being the case, it will take God’s intervention to remove those three from office!
Note: Maxine Waters has helped illegal alien Mexicans to take over her Congressional District. There are now 20,000 homeless African Americans living on Skid Row with their children!
      See the link below.

Have social services visiting and inspectors to make the people to keep the place clean and orderly. Hire people to maintain cleaning for those who are disabled and cant clean for themselves. Its a job creator. Have one location in the building where meals are served, time scheduled for the meal (s). And no cooking anywhere else in the units, if fire risk is noted.

If you think about it, drug addiction creates the worst problems. Permanent, secure, stable housing is the first step for all homeless people, individuals and families. Maybe rehab groups can build tiny house communities with people who understand addiction living in the same small community space to help with the process of changing. It takes years to begin to get "normal" without drugs and then build a new life. Most programs want addicts to heal and become a model citizen in 30-90 days. It's an unrealistic expectation... which helps with funding, but not the real problems.

The answer is better planning, better politicians, your politicians are making billions on your homeless, setting up businesses owned by the same politicians their family and friends, to help clean up after these homeless aka most drug addicts, mental illness. You don't fix drug problems by giving them drugs and safe places to do them. They are doing nothing to help, they are actually making the problem worse. Homeless isn't always drug addicted and dirty. I am 34 and have never been on welfare and have always worked, still do. 5 years ago my sister decided to become a heroin addict and i got her lovely daughter. I had 1 child and always was able to manage. So here i am with a extra kid( no income for her because cps isn't always the best), rising rents at insane rates. Then got hit with a garnishment. I called local resources and asked for the tiny bit of help that would save our place. I was told from government and private companies to quit my job and get on welfare if i wanted help. Not a option! After money ran out from working far away and paying a motel and taking my neice( who is special ed and needed to stay in our district), thank God i found a private company in seattle that helped. Were in a tiny home that we all manage, its not filthy, kids are safe, they will guide you weather you have income or not. Thank God for non profits because the government is a failure if their answer is to quit your job, and get on welfare. It takes a while to rebuild but we're blessed to have a tiny shack, showers, port a potties. Cleanliness is important when your homeless and we're blessed seattle realizes that.

But if i quit my job and stayed home with the kids I could live there for free. I asked how that made sense, why not just lower the rent by $100 to help out instead? Those down & out are vulnerable to doing stuff they wouldn't normally do, drugs, quick buck, doing something they normally wouldn't ever do. So I stayed away from such. Been under this roof for 16 going on 17 years now. & you know, sometimes I feel that when I was out there, I was truly able to live, instead of existing just to keep the bills payed.
When I was out in the woods, sleep in get up make some food. Tend the garden, hunt, head to the stream, fill up bottles with water, maybe fish, forage for nuts & berries, on way back to camp. Enjoy what's left of the day.

The problem is the huge increases in housing prices! It’s pushing out the lower middle class to the streets. Lower rent and build more affordable housing!

The real powers that be do not want local government to help them in any significant way. They will let them go with a few marginal humanitarian efforts. They also do not want low income housing areas developed as this makes it harder for rental units to be rented for excessive amounts. It is a question of profit maximization under our sacred capitalistic system.

Johnny Evans notice these assholes who talk about America first never have any criticism for Israel. They are getting billions in tax payers funds. No homeless there. But nah! Blame immigrants because stupidity and the inability to see government is the issue. Trillions spent on military. Trillions! No threat, only imperialist threats and proxy wars for foreign entities. America first? Fuck outta here!

Desean Gibir maybe the reason why we don't have threats is because we have a strong military.
We spend more on welfare, big government and silly programs than giving money to Israel. We can give 1 billion is Cali tomorrow and the democrats will waste it on gender natural studies and pride month.
