The ultimate loneliness is to be homeless addicted and mentally sick. It is like being in a ship in a battle zone without shields, sensors or weapons to protect yourself.
I pray your missing son is returned to you so you can both start the healing process. A mom's love and professional help can do wonders to heal a broken man.

I am baffled by the way some folks treat homeless people like their are above these people and life itself, no one is immune from unfortunate circumstances.by mistake. which is all a part of life or system failure people will always need each others, when the system fail government doesn't just let it go by wayside it's often bail out,but poor people are often curse for what is perceived has handouts, especially in America today a lost paycheck or two from hitting the streets.

So few people realize how close they are to being homeless at any given time. You live paycheck to paycheck? You are 1 sick day away from being homeless, Lose your job? You’re homeless. We all think it could never happen to us. It can. So be more compassionate, because one day you might be looking up at someone with a job asking for change.

The problem for most people passing by is the majority of homeless folks who are not criminals are indistinguishable from those few who are criminals. It is the fact that those few homeless individuals who are criminals will do you great harm if given half a chance.
The urban survival response of most passers by is to ignore all homeless people not because of a hard heart but for reasons of safety on city streets!
Most people in cities know its best just to mind your business, never make eye contact with the homeless and keep moving. That way as a moving target you present minimal exploitation opportunity to all criminals who might target you.

If addiction is a major cause or seed of the plant of homelessness, it makes sense to find out our addictions, be they ever so seemingly insignificant and tackle them head on.
It's a travesty that alcohol is socially as acceptable and normal as smoking, or illicit sex, where birth control means abortion and murder of the baby.
When one is living a hallucination of so-called happiness in crippling habits,... the result can only be more and more misery.
My heart goes out to the ignorant mass of people, struggling with addictions. You become the slave of your senses. They are relentless slave owners.
They can cost you your job.

Two major reasons for America's homelessness are 1. Allowing our mentally ill to remain on the street and untreated. Allowing the mentally ill to refuse treatment has been a complete failure. We have to change the laws so that they can be made to remain on their medication at what ever level that takes. 2. The Veteran's Administration cares more about those who work at the Veteran's Administration than they care about the Veterans needing the services they have earned and deserve.

I think community court is not punitively sentenced, instead of restorative justice, we need more of the community courts in our cities and states, instead of incarceration, we give people a chance to turn their life around for the better and sign them with Wellness Case Manager. That's exactly what we are doing here on our reservation.

I got my diploma thanks to Ken Jernberg Joe Teresa and Sam owner of Hogan restaurant on the south hill. I went back to crosswalk and worked as the maintenance man for 2 years. I lived homeless for majority of my 20s with drugs and alcohol. Did a stint in prison. I sit here watching as not the same person. I lived in Spokane for 35 years. Many homeless aren't suited to conventional housing simply because they are too disruptive, destructive or potentially dangerous and always will be,-- hence, their circumstances,-- but still need safe, warm shelter like everyone else. Looking at many of these people one can see the deep rooted problems, pain emanating from childhood trauma. It is terribly sad--

      Maybe..... but maybe not too.
My fairly wealthy family had a 4 bedroom home. After my 2 sisters were on their own, I was staying at "home" with just Mom & Dad, and yet there was quarrel & contention because I had renounced meat eating, and Mom got enraged that I didn't eat her cooking anymore, but waited till they finished and cooked my rice & veggies in her pots. Now how did I sleep at night.... Tossing & turning from the antagonism. Mom was on a mission to squash my dreams (any & all)... And never hugged me or told me she loved me. (How did I sleep at night?)
At last the day came she couldn't go another day with me in the big ol house.
I was on the street and sad as anything ...hellish.
I pretty much locked the door to my heart up for those negative vibes from my worst nightmare, psychological abusive parents, but they had the nerve to get the law to come find me after I didn't touch bases for 2 years.
I met an ex-con hitchhiking the same highway, who knew where the free food was......
🙄🙏🏻📚 It's not black and white. Some yogis live in caves and meditate. They are peaceful & satisfied so they don't have any guilt feelings.

Not everyone living in homes are snug under their covers with climate controlled rooms. I know families living in homes with little to no heat, without water, with leaking roofs and foundations caving in. My neighbor is almost 60 and she has broken pipes and a foundation that is caving in. I hooked a hose up and ran it to her house so she has water until winter when I have to pull it in so it doesn't freeze, I see her outside chopping wood to help heat her house and she put 4 by 4's in her basement to hold her house up.

Excellent documentary! I was in Spokane a week ago (Sep 2022). They built a large homeless shelter, but it stays mostly empty because so many homeless don't want to follow the rules of conduct there. It has had no impact on the number of homeless. There are over 1,000 homeless in Spokane. Most of them are in one large homeless camp that has tents, campers, vehicles in a square. It's right in front of Walmart. Now, Walmart & other businesses had to hire 24 hr. security due to the vandalism. I can understand that housing & utilities are outrageous, but why cause vandalism & other crimes? Spokane put up fences under bridges & other places where the homeless tend to occupy. They will arrest & fine with the "Sit & Lie" ordinance. This is supposed to encourage people to go to the shelters for the night. We'll see if it changes in the future.

The fact that homeless people are rule adverse is often why they are homeless. Even in your rent an apartment there are still RULES that must be followed to remain housed. That's why bleeding hearts demand the providing expensive supportive "Wrap Around Services" be included! The problem is providing housing plus expensive Wrap Around Services costs big time Wrap Around Funding stolen from Taxpayers Wallets". Socialist Welfare Wrap Around Services costs big money for people who are on paths to self destruction of their own making. All taxpayers dollars do is slow their dying process.

It can't be easy for these families having to sleep on floor mats next to other families with virtually no space between them, but it's better than sleeping in a car. The parents probably feel like they have failed their kids. You have to be heartless if you don't feel any sympathy for them. You know there's a problem when you have both parents working, but still unable to find anywhere that they can afford or it's so expensive that there's very little or nothing left over after paying bills and food. Lockdown hasn't helped and now we're nearing an energy crisis with prices about to soar by over 50% which will leave some poor families having to think about finding cheaper thus, poorer quality food or even food banks as a means to feed their kids. No normal honest law biding homeless person deserves to spat upon for any reason. I don't like criminals but, I don't think even a homeless criminal deserves to be spat upon.
Whats worse housed people often urinate on homeless rough sleepers. Set their tent's on fire, beat them with pipes, steal \ break their belongings and even in extreme cases HOUSED PEOPLE MURDER THE HOMELESS FOR SADISTIC SPORT! This is TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE!

Nope..There is no more hope..The new world order is upon us, and population control is their #1 goal..These people are being eliminated daily, and in just a short time everyone will notice the streets no longer have a large homeless population, and than there will be none! 😉..All of these things we all see, and even feel in 2020 is not by accident, or just coincidence..Everyone can feel a huge change coming..If you are a burden, and not contributing to society, eventually you’re going to be eliminated..This is what’s really happening..

Most of the homeless have already been through exactly what you said, and many more..Now they’re on the streets, now what? It’s an endless cycle..They have to want it, they have to not want to be on drugs, alcohol, and off the streets..If the individual doesn’t want it like all of us, there’s nothing left to do for them..Showing these endless sad stories do nothing..

Homeless is a choice. It may not be a goal that you were striving for but it is a choice. In order to be homeless the individual has to burn every bridge, financially posture themselves, and have absolutely zero plan in place.
While I agree that it would be terrible to be homeless, I feel it is of their own doing. Get a job, spend less than you make and don't be a jackass

You have 100% Choice when it comes to PTSD. An individual cannot prevent a horrific or traumatic life event but you can 100% control how you react to it. Again, people choose to be homeless. You don't run out of places to go unless you're burnt a lot of bridges on your way.

lol. Ok. "You can control p.t.s.d." yea...it's working out great for the few million in the world suffering from it. And homelessness isn't "running out of places to go". Alot of people WANT to be out there. Alot of people are to mentally unwell to function at a level that allows for day to day work, income, hygiene, eating, paying bills etc. Your just pigeon holeing people suffering addiction into the same basket......we'll keep on doing that because that's exactly why there is such a mess out there because NOBODY FN CARES 💩
