I was thinking about the other day. Something about the vibe here is different. Like bourbon moth or Keith Johnson feels like if I had enough money I could order a commission but something about blacktail feels like even if I had enough money I would still need to "know a guy" to get a piece. It feels more exclusive for some reason

I just stumbled on your channel. My handy, wonderful husband of 40 years, suddenly, passed away recently. A couple of days ago I wandered out to the shop to find a tool and realized things were out of place. It hit me that he wasn’t feeling well far longer than I knew. He left so many “honey-do” fix-it projects unfinished… and I feel bad I didn’t know he had so many balls in the air. I complained way more than I should have (I wish I could take it all back) The shop was his turf..mysterious and unknown territory to me. As a spur of the moment DIYer I would drag something outside to sand and paint..get in way too deep for my pre-school skill level… then suddenly my knight in sawdust armor would appear with just the right tool and a saw horse to save the day. I must have provided him with endless hours of entertainment! We live on a few acres out in the country, so i found 5 gallon unfinished “project buckets” one for working on the fence, another for the irrigation, electric fence stuff, horse shelter lights, chicken coop heater, tractor blades (?) I think? I had no idea he had so many tools.. and this is just the small shop/garage I haven’t been out to the barn where the big saws and scary tools are. I just found a drill..but it’s so heavy. I used a hand screw driver and took forever to tighten up the dining room chairs.. he could have done it in 10 minutes.. Anyway, I started organizing the screw and nails, drill bits (why do you need so many?) those round sharp things that make holes in wood (didn’t know he had those!) So I came to Ytube to find out what some of these tools are and how to use them..and here you are using jigs and routers, band saws and all the stuff he has. I’m touched to hear you talk about your wife and am blown away by your talent. My guess is she knows what a gem you are and loves all your projects! More than once, I found him working in clothes I didn’t recognize that he “had for years” he was his own man when it came to clothes 😮and I loved him anyway 😉 Carry on! Good job love your work I’ll be watching..and learning.

Hey Cam, I'm a blacksmith and I've worked with damascus steel a bit. One thing that struck me when you said that the Giraffe pattern being disappointing is that all the best patterns in steel are the more symmetrical or ordered ones. I think the style is organic and random enough on its own, so an ordered base pattern tends to look best.
I also have two suggestions I'd love to see you try to mimic: first, feather (sometimes called flame) pattern and second: a mosaic of some sort, the most common being "star", "burst" or "explosion" patterns. I could try to explain these, but I think it's best if you just look them up here on RUclips.

It comes straight from jealousy. A woman like that is only with a man like this because he is perfect for her and nobody else in the world can replace the meaning he brings to her life. We find our counterparts through countless experiences together and most real relationships decide to become life long partners after very delicate consideration and checking off most or all the boxes on a personal checklist. People make comments like that when they feel empty and alone and they see someone else who is loved and successful in their relationships and life goals. He's a fun dude to watch, very skilled in his craft, physically he is highly capable and absolutely not a bad looking fella by any means. Straight up jealousy.

Hey Cam! I've got a planer tip for you.
To avoid tearout when planing across the grain - start by feeding the piece about an 3/4 inch through the planer so that it creates a lip. Pull it back carefully. Then spin it around (so the lip is at the back and will go through the planer last) and run it through normally. By doing that you'll essentially pre-cut the layers that will not be supported by layers behind them and thus will blowout if run normally.
An old woodworker with all his fingers showed this one to me. It works like a charm.

When you mentioned a commenter saying hot people are only with ugly people if the ugly person is rich, I immediately disagreed, because obviously hot people are often with ugly people if the ugly person is funny. Then I saw your face and thought, "how hot is his wife that people think HE is ugly?" And also, "good thing he's not ugly, because he isn't very funny." Then I saw you showing off your creations to your wife and realized you simply save all your comedy for her in particular, and decided I needed to comment to tell you just how cute you guys are together.
Oh, right, your videos are cool too: even though I think I share your wife's taste in furniture rather than yours, it's always delightful to watch and listen to the process, especially as a novice woodworker who's got quite a bit to learn.

I was in aerospace composite fab/layup for a few years. I would suggest if you're going to have a bag that big you should have multiple vacuum ports. Also you want something like non perforated a5000 and breather rope and you want the breather mat to cover the entire interior of the bag to help with even circulation. Also, if you want your plies to be really tight and strong to the mold. Less resin. I recommend a couple of compaction steps in between a handful of lay ups.
I'm a little dusty on the info as it's been about 3½ years. Our process was nice and tight as it was or aerospace control surfaces (some of the highest stressed components). I wouldn't mind sharing more suggestions or bounce idea, trouble shoot issue, etc.

I spend hours just looking at things that I’m doing and then when I go back to the video I just laugh at it all. 8 hour day, 1 hour setting up tools, 1 hour putting them away, 2 hours looking for tools I just had in my hand, 1 hour actually getting work done and 3 hours staring at the project without any motion all out.

Then when we went for our actual pour, the hose to the vacuum loosened and ended up sucking up and couple cups of epoxy and ruined the vacuum to the vacuum press. 28:31 For the wobbly top, get a few (3 or 5) strips of metal (~1inch in width and 2mm in thickness) and weld them to resemble a ceiling fan. The centre of the fan can have the threads that bolt in. The "blades" can be bent ever so slightly to create a level surface and provide support without being visible. The table top will bolt in to the blades. The blades can be elongated to provide additional support for bigger table tops. More blades will also increase the support.

The remaining options are not so expressive or boring in color, but the design is acceptable. I would experiment with a combination of colors and patterns. I am sure that Pepperoni end Palm would look more impressive in dark colors.

Then grind down the slab into peaks and valleys going along the grain so that it looks like a landscape. Then fill it with layers of epoxy starting with a pale sky blue (or gray) epoxy and slowly getting more clear as the layers go up. So that it looks like a lake or foggy landscape.

And in the end you show your wife 10 versions of the tables and she picks the saddest one !! Aahahahaha! Keep the good work man, love your videos!

Haaa, I LOVE that you're going nuts with this. Now *I* wanna try doing it with layers of sheer fabric (tulle, shimmer chiffon, duochrome organza that's different hues depending on angle ), maybe even mushing it into the epoxy in random wavy patterns at different depths, or crumpling or pleating parts of it...

@@wachinpntdry. Right? That could end up being SO dimensional and cool-looking, esp with one of the shot/changeant organzas that have different hues for warp and weft threads so they shift between different colors.

Omg, I love all of this.
If he could get a remnants box/grab bag kind of thing, but on a large scale...
I'm trying to think what company might be best. Definitely someplace that would be willing to send lightweight stuff so that he'd be getting things like organza and tulle and... literally there would be so many options.

@@culturecrashAL I'm not sure sheer or very thin fabrics will work well but definitely would be interesting to see him add different fabrics to the mix!

My favorite pattern is the Black & Gray one. My favorite colors are the ones you used for Islands.
Also, I love how you presented the tables as tastings.

I appreciate the comment about how much time you spend just starring.
Sometimes I look for stuff to improve or projects to do and I feel incompetent when my only other point of reference is watching youtubers just blast through project after project, meanwhile I'm just staring what seems like 80+% of the time.

I like the color pairing of the Islands top with the first base. But that's just me.
When planing end grain, I wet the wood first with alcohol or mineral spirits. The fibers sever better when wet. A sharp blade is a must and a low angle plane is helpful. But that was a lot of end grain to plane, so using the jointer was a better solution.

What makes this channel for me is the stories that go with your creations. Having one of your creations would be like having a unique piece of art.

They are all very beautiful and different. 1- Islands, 2- Oak, 3- Patriot, 4- Giraffe. I love watching your craft and the process, and I appreciate your humor.

I really like the Oak and Dragon. My “surprisingly better than I thought it would turn out”: Palm!

The palm pattern is my favorite. As I was watching this video, I kept thinking that Cam should do a build out of SpectraPly. SpectraPly is a layered material where each of the layers is a different color. The product comes in a variety of different color combinations. In order to make a flat table top that really showcased the material, he would probably have to work the top so that it isn’t flat and then pour a layer of epoxy resin to create a flat surface. And no, I am not affiliated with SpectraPly.
The other thing that I kept thinking was that the obvious way to correct the misaligned hole on the table base was to fill the hole with a hardwood dowel and then drill the hole again.

I must say that all the samples you provided are of exceptional quality and it's difficult for me to single out one as my favorite. I appreciate the effort and dedication you put into creating each one of them. In fact, I believe all the samples should be showcased to the customers to give them the opportunity to choose the one that resonates with them the most. Love it love it ❤😊

All of them are beautiful, I love the black ones, I think you said in the video it was your favorite of the pick too…. But your wife also has a good taste because personally I don’t think you can compete with all natural patterns but as far as colors go. I’d choose your pick just because of the color
