This wood slab kitchen island was one of my biggest woodworking projects to date. It was also my first kitchen island/woo countertop project! Made from a single piece of locally salvaged Black Walnut and the voids filled with jet black epoxy resin. This slab started out at nine feet long and over five feet wide. Rough cut by me and the final shape was precision cut by a CNC. I even decided to deliver this one personally and help with the installation. Let me know if you have any questions about the build!

Here in the Mtns of Tipperary, Eire we have a 30', 3/4" maple 'L' shaped kitchen counter I made from planed rough timber with
@@byjamie-hillierrubis Yes in my younger and more able days I used to love doing the odd pieces of joinery and surprised myself on how well I could make things like rail and post doors blanket boxes out of recycled timber but my arthritis has caught up with me and my large if not basic machinery now lies idle and I hope one day my son will use them when he gets the time as he is quite good at picking things up. I drool over some of the Blacktail machinery and workshop and it must have cost a fortune but it is worth it in the end eh to know that you did this by yourself? Plus the fact that you know that the things you have made are perfect and not just thrown together like some factory made furniture.

I’ll keep quiet next time 👍🏼
Not wood. Please don't stop talking, you cadence is very soothing.
Was gonna say exactly the same
Don't ever stop your commentary! I love it and I find it very interesting and very informative! :D plus it can be really fun! :D I love it!
My thoughts exactly, it's not "blah blah blah" I hear, it's valuable, informative, seasoned just right commentary.
What @SpectroliteAAA said.
Same here
This man was savage😂
I hate music over videos and turn most of them off especially when i am doing stuff and can't stair the whole time
I absolutely love not being bombarded with intolerable music/sound effects/high pitch frantic commenting etc. Perfect.
Not wood, at least in the kitchen itself, but I dream of a gorgeous river wood table. Maybe a darker wood with teal epoxy.
I love that you talk and go through what you're doing and why. I feel like you make it easy to learn, and I always have questions when it's nothing but music, but you answer them as they pop into my head. Great job, gorgeous table!
Holy hell I’m getting old I just watched some guy make a table for 20 minutes and enjoyed it.
It happens!
Not wood. Me too lol.
Great craftsmanship.
I especially appreciate how he said to give the client realistic expectations. Doing tree work as a one man show I often let potential clients know that xyzzy company could do it for a bit less than I am able to, surprisingly, they almost always say "when can you start" :).
Have a great weekend everyone.

Your inability to “shut up” is the reason I just subscribed. Narration is vital to explain the processes and techniques you use and I think you do it very well. Keep up the good work.
I listen because A) You’re voice is soothing B) I love how descriptive you are C) even though I have 0 interest in actually doing woodwork, watching you create and making explain the process of whatever masterpiece you’re making is thoroughly interesting. D) Screw the haters lol 😂

@@jessemarsden9175 THe most woodworking I've ever done is heavy modifications to my PC case and that's it. Although I had to choose from old crates and put them together. Surprisingly some of them held amazing grain behild the layer bleached by sun and weather.
Some of them had sawmarks that came out after getting some varnish on it, but honestly in some cases these look quite good.
Wood and woodworking is my life. At 75 years old I continue to practice my trade. As much as I love the work itself, I get a great deal of pleasure watching others do their thing. I am not an epoxy sort of guy but find it very interesting to watch.
I started watching your videos when my infant granddaughter fell asleep on my shoulder at 10am today. It’s 7pm and I’m on like my 8th one. I have absolutely no experience with your craft, but I love creativity and quality work. Your process is mesmerizing (mostly because you are so articulate, thank you very much) and beautiful. I agree 100 percent ! I like knowing why hes doing what hes doing and hearing the tips and tricks rather than generic non © music lol
How shocked were you? Be honest
Don't think of being a content creator as a bad thing. You're doing something you have a passion for, teaching people by showing people your mistakes so they can learn from them and creating beautiful products while doing so. We as viewers are lucky to have such content for free on RUclips and you seem to enjoy the process too. It's not something to be ashamed of, it's something to be proud of.

I really like how you explain things and you speak with the perfect speed, not too fast but not too slow
Wood, that is freaking beautiful. Came across your channel yesterday and been watching it all day. Awesome workmanship
Wood, there's just something fascinating about having one as a countertop. Still can't believe that I sat through 18 minutes to listen to a guy working on wood even though I'm not a carpenter or in any related field. I do have to admit that the commentary was fun to listen to.
Ditto
Don't add music, I enjoy you explaining the details of what you're doing. I learn a lot from your videos, keep it up man!
I agree:)
Ok, wait, you can't say that! We need MORE music for the final dramatic reveal! There is nothing more satisfying than seeing everything come together right at the end and you see where the painstaking labor and effort all made it worth it! Beautiful!
PLEASE DO NOT add music! biggest mistake YTers do.
I really love watching you work. You are always fun to watch and you hold my interest!!!
I additionally love listening to you explain the steps of what goes into your creations!!
Simply stunning work x 100!!
Love your content. Grew up doing this kinda work with my dad and it brings back so many great memories. You’re a hell of a carpenter.
Wood. You know you’re not the average “content producer” right? You’re easily top 1% of people who actually give a shit about what they put out. Great vid and awesome island.
Wow, never thought of myself like that. But I’ll take it!
Its true !!!!

Dont know why I was recommended this, but I sure as hell loved every moment of this.
I love your presentation style and narration.
I would love Wood countertops.
The reason people want wood is it has its own personality and it will grow old with your family.
Brother, I've been watching you for a long time. Your dedication to your craft gives me the warm fuzzies. Your attention to detail is simply amazing and awe inspiring. I barely have time to get through all the videos that I would like to watch, let alone getting into some of your training videos but someday, I will find the time. Just wanted to drop a like and thank you for sharing your skill, love for the wood and ideas and willingness to add in voice overs to your videos. Your honestly is difficult to find these days, whether it be about your work or yourself but it's as raw as it gets and I for one, appreciate it. Thank you and keep up the great work!
I would do have this in my house! As someone who has started a business similar to yours I look to your channel to continue to learn and perfect my craft in woodworking. You bring your customers amazing work and I aspire to be able to do what you do. I just started in January this year and I’m getting off the ground at this point and it’s really amazing to see and also learn from you as well.
I have to say the "troll segment", is one my favorite parts... That was beautiful
I agree. I would enjoy complete video of troll comments!
So true. Sometimes I want to come up with with a snarky comment to try and get featured, but I enjoy his videos so much it wouldn't be fair!
I would not get a wood countertop, only because I would be terrified of leaving a ring, dent or stain! You created an absolute work of art, and the process was fascinating. Keep doing what you do!
Ring or stain no. Dent... Maybe. It has coating so no rings or stains
I’m not too familiar with woodworking, but could you resurface these wood countertops? Or would you end up taking off way too much just to fix some dents?
@@sofreshsogreen If its thick enough, you can usually fix any wood furniture by just "Sanding it and Re-Coating it with Wax/Varnish", the problem is that the wax/varnish probably wont be the same (so there will be a color difference), and once you sand the top layer you might find more imperfections than when you started that you need to refill or fix. Obviously its not just this simple 2 step process, but the theory works on almost any wood that was accidentaly messed up... its just too much work and sometimes not worth the risk. :D
So what if you ding it.......you have scars don't you?
Gas range. *Wooden* countertop. Gas range. *Wooden* countertop. Gas range. *Wooden* countertop.

I think I’ve watched almost all your videos now and the narration is what keeps me watching. As an old woodshop teacher I really appreciate the extra effort you put in for a quality piece. Love the wood look but my wife needs granite especially near the sink. With my 3 little shops I’ll never be able to do something as large but will try to put your level of quality into my little projects.
Wood is it was a smaller counter. It would never be as beautiful as what you just did. Thank you for sharing your talent and patience.
For what it's worth, I preferred listening to you talk about everything than the videos where people don't talk.
Wood. Being a master carpenter of 46 years experience in Scotland, I cannot tell you how impressed I am with your work. I love your channel and presentation. And if people don't like your commentary, mute the damn thing but I do. I think it rounds the video off nice. Well done and yes, I have subscribed!
The respect I have for veteran makers like yourself is unparalleled. Just wanted to say that.

Correct! I make granite countertops for kitchens, among many others, but in kitchens I always work according to the template, this was not the case, if the owner took the measures, he assumes the risk in case of errors ... but for U-shaped countertops or L and mounted on the wall, a template is an ideal and mandatory thing

Your voice is mad chill and not annoying at all. You have that teaching voice and I appreciate the commentary.
I'm a little late to this vid but, I'd love a wood counter top. It's beautiful and in my opinion connects us to the living growing world. Over time the counter shows the history of meals prepared and live sustained. Wood is good.
A tiny bit late, but i just have to say…i LOVE that you only talk and do not have music in the background. Music is always a personal choice and sometimes can be REALLY annoying 😉besides your fantastic work, your way of presenting is very entertaining and i do learn a lot. Shoutout to Scott…who is doing a great job too.
