Mappa - Ever thought of buying a twin electric blanket to use to warm up the wood? Might take a bit more prep afterwards but you might be able to get the wood a good bit warmer.
That makes an incredible amount of sense. Thanks!
Actually good advice. Pog
This might be a good idea until you have to deal with the lint/dust/dirt left behind by the electric blankets, especially after they have been used for a while. The cleaning process would need to be quite rigorous. I would recommend buying heated rubber mats that are used in many industries for heating items. The rubber mats won't leave behind dust/dirt/lint and are easily cleaned if they become dirty and some offer temperature controls which would give you better process control to heat a thick slab.
@@deanh2574 Then use schluter ditra with a floor heating grid & make a heated 'tile table' to put things on.
@@Le_Comte_de_Monte_Felin I was just about to say to buy a second blanket to put under the wood but your idea is better. It might be possible to save a pour that is overheating a little by using the tubing to cool the pour, or at least know when you are getting too close to the limit on exotherm...
Starting chemo again tomorrow, quite frankly don’t see me leaving the hospital alive. Thanks for the very soothing, peaceful videos. Your voice is very calming to me. God bless. ❤
Well? Alive and well?

@Arthur-ke9vz Did you survive ? ☹️
I'm glad that the time spent on this earth was the same time as yours, time is a circle so ill see you around.
Mappa
11:52 Thank you for assuring us that no good will be done with the money haha
NONE!
He was ruthless
I'd suggest a trip to Bangkok.
@@trevermarquardt1986 I don’t think the guy is ruthless. I think he has a lot of ruth!
Mappa, I had to go back and see if I heard that right.
I am not a woodworker, I am just somebody that came across your videos. I need to say this though - I love the fact that you're leaving your mistakes in there! This is as valuable as the successes you show. Since everybody makes mistakes all the time, if you watch somebody else just "get it right" all the time, subconsciously you start to think there's something wrong with you.
Posting your mistakes makes your videos feel normal. You should be proud.
Mappa, I'm from South Africa and what I've seen you do to this wood is beyond incredible, this is beautiful stuff my brother. ❤
“It’s just that the things you make probably aren’t very good” 😂😂😂
See you everywhere
That was hilarious!!!
Cracked me up as well.
Had to watch it twice, Cam is leaning into the trolls. Absolutely hilarious.
man just angered so many people🤣🤣
your videos have changed my life! I never would have thought that I would drop out of unviersity and become a carpenter. And I have happily done just that, thank you!
Good for you!
Being a carpenter or a fine finish Carpenter is a great career. Satisfying great product and great income good for you
Where did you do your apprenticeship?
👍👌👏
Mappa. Awesome work. I love the fact you show your mistakes and how you fix them Thank you! The table is absolutely beautiful!
I love how detailed you are, that's the difference between good and not so good of a job. Very professional and sincere about the work you do. Best wishes.
The people that are paying that much for the table are idiots.
I’m 36 and I’ve been an automotive painter for 16 years in a fairly high flow shop. The trizac system works extremely well. I’ve seen the paper go up as high as p5000 grit. Once you’re at that point, the buffing and polishing portion is ridiculously easy. I absolutely love this table. Keep up the amazing work dude
Thanks bud!
7:58 has me legitimately laughing out loud.
he on smoke letsgo haha
I did too!!! I wear an ear bud, so the entire shop looked up at me! 😂😂
I know right🤣🤣
I genuinely haven’t laughed out loud like that in a while that really made my afternoon
Yeah, that was great, had to back up to see if I heard i correctly 😂
I do love, love love what you do with the dark tables you do. They are just stunning
Mappa, I have watched many of your builds, I am impressed that you show all the good and bad parts of the project. Very Impressive table!
I refinish furniture and my buffing to a high gloss needed work when I first started. I have learned a little trick though. Set up a couple of shop lights at waist height or about chair rail height with them facing out and turn your overhead lights off. It is what a lot of automotive painters do and it gives an excellent contrast on the levelness and shows any dips, debris that might have landed on it and swirls from the pads.
This and be sure you can see the light itself in the reflection. That really brings out the imperfections. Another tip is use LED’s and not fluorescent or halogen. It’s a “cleaner” light that again helps to see those imperfections.
Mappa 13:55 The best way to heat the surface of your slab (and the epoxy on the slab) is to use a radiant heat panel. A 400 Watt panel should do your application (24"x 24"). You would suspend it directly above your slab (3 or 4 feet above). Plugs into 120VAC. No moving parts so no air movement. Home Despot $250 Love the table.
Jesus Christ died for your sinssssssss
Mappa, I just came across your video tonight, and found this entirely new to me process mesmerizing. What a talented, humurous teacher you are ! Thank you for sharing this learning project. The Table is stunning !
Mappa- enjoyed watching you create this desk/table. I am not a woodworker of any sort. I appreciate crafts people and their processes. Beautiful finish! I especially enjoy the networking and advice you exchange with other crafts people. Team work makes the dream work.
I fell out of my chair laughing. Thank you, Cam! "I'm sure you're a good woodworker, it's just the things you make are not very good."
Mappa I've been working with wood all my life and I'm 70 now. Your struggles are your best teacher. Count them as a blessing. Your awesome, keep it up. The haters are going to hate. Don't listen to them. 👍 Awesome work.
I have been making custom furniture and epoxy tables and desks for years now. I just discovered you 2 weeks ago and have been binge-watching ever since. I see myself in you, but thanks to you, ill-start younger than you have 😜. Furthermore, I love the fact that you are yourself and love your stories, but admire your honesty and patience in explaining.
Thank you for giving me the extra push.
Sorry my English, I write in French most of the time. As I am in QUEBEC,CAN
If you are interested and have time, I would love to show you my portfolio so you could give me your feedback.
keep pouring!
So I have been binge watching these epoxy resin tables as I’m hooked. What I’m seeing other wood craftsman do is fill the pits and cracks with epoxy and there are different types of epoxy…as I’m sure you know. The epoxy I’m talking about is called Deep Penetrating Epoxy that soaks into the grain of the wood and then they do their sanding before the table top epoxy finish.
Mappa - I enjoy how you "narrate with honesty". It give a good feeling of honesty to you and your work. As for the table - the legs were spot on and the color turned out amazing! Thank you for sharing!
Cam, I just got done building my first walnut river table and it turned out great. Watching countless hours of your videos is what gave me the confidence to try it. Your willingness to show mistakes to help others learn is huge. Thanks for everything you do, keep up the good work!
Mappa is one I never heard of before - I learn something new from each video. Absolutely fantastic! I love this desk.
Light and Dark: Wow, Cam! Those are both so beautiful. I love watching and listening to your channel. I think you are a great teacher. If I were interested in trying wood working would totally take notes and pay attention to your tutorials. It is always good to have a person that brings your work up. Never took you comment about your wife as anything but a compliment to her and useful way to improve your work. Enjoying your work.
Mappa, Do you know when I commented on the "fire table", I said something to the effect that it was the most beautiful table I had seen done. Well, I LIED! You, Sir, have outdone yourself. This table is a work of art! I have loved every sec, from wood selection to final finish; this was pure eye candy. Haters will hate; even Rembrandt had critics but don't mind them. You have created a masterpiece. I have to see a follow up video to see what it sold for.
its at 15k right now. probably will sell around 20-25k
Mappa - That was a HECK of a polishing process! You sir, have way more patience than I and I am a trained furniture finisher.
@ Marc Choronzey - I think you've confused patience with perfectionism. (I have the same perfectionism.)
MAPPA, so glad I watched this. Been doing some little wood working projects and watching you use the nylon brushes and your experience with them helps me out a lot. Cant wait to try using them and see if they work like they did in this video.
Mappa - beyond impressed with your persistence! Turned out beautiful.
When finishing the surfaces, you should consider what a “clean room” in the semiconductor industry puts to use, as far as what attire you wear, to prevent dust and other particles from your body and clothing from being shed onto the work piece.
just finished watching all your content for the third time and a new vid drops it's like christmas. you sir make some of the most stunning items i have ever seen, keep up the good work.

okay, let's see you make a table that sells for just as much then! Go ahead, do it differently. no one is stopping you.
oh? what's that? you cant? what do you mean you cant, dont you know how to do everything? :)
Absolutely amazing such detail in the finish. Looks like a landscape
Mappa. You never fail to amaze me. Beautiful table! I live "tiny" so I unfortunately don't have room for something so large. Every video lately, you have at least a one liner that cracks me up! Entertainment and quality work, all at the same time. Keep em coming.
“It’s not like that … I’m sure you’re a good woodworker, it’s just that the things you make probably aren’t very good.” HAHAHAHA!!! SAVAGE!!!
Mappa - You have made my dream table. I am a huge fan of black tables that showcase the wood grain. The legs make this table a work of art. I would just stare into the beauty of the unbelievable tabletop. Admittedly, I will never be able to afford any of your work but I greatly enjoy watching the functional art that you make. Thank you for this video.
It does look like the guitars of which I’m a huge fan of!
I normally don't like a ton of stuff you do. I absolutely LOVE this table. Fantastic work. Fantastic look. And I learned a lot from listening that I didn't know. Cool video. Thank you for sharing.
Mappa!! Again a fabulous creation. I hope the auction was widely successful for you! I have enjoyed being down this Rabbit Hole, watching your skill, dedication, and success!
This is definitely one of the nicest tables you made and thats saying alot because its hard to choose a favorite.
Incredible. I have watched a number of your projects. This one stands out.
Hi Camron. From Singapore here. I really admire how meticulous you are with your work. This video is my personal favorite. I cant stop watching it.
I love the little nubs on this wood, and you did it justice. What a painstaking process but the end result is beautiful! I'm not a woodworker but I enjoy watching the progress of your work and your sense of humor!🤠
Mappa: That 8 minute mark had me laughing hard and it's definitely not what I expected from a table making video. Love the content
Code for. (STFU) Lmao.
Haha caught me off-guard too, so funny
Too funny
Your modesty, dedication and skill have my respect. Great job!!!
MAPPA Burl- I hope you know how blessed you are to be able to create and have an outlet for your passion and creativity…I absolutely love my family and work 13 hours a day 6 days a week locked into a factory job-concrete, cold steel, deafening robotic noise, horrible air quality, no windows no sun, hot as hell…but the point is I’m stuck and daydream about apprenticing at your shop..I’d work for free. All I’ve ever wanted to do was be a carpenter and build modern furniture…I used to draw tables, chairs and couches back in 1995…But I know at this point it’s just a dream.
When this table was around 1500 grit sanded, I loved it. But the final shine is unbelievable. I don't even like glossy finish in general, but this job is really nice ;)
Buffing doesn’t always come out that nice. It might sound crazy, but i have some sanding discs from rocker that go down to 12000 grit which I use before I start buffing guitars out and it helps get rid of that haze so you don’t have to go through a ton of buffing compounds. Those things are super expensive!
@@thedillydotcom
I mostly work with car finishes. Once you get above 2-3K grit sanding, compounds will work just fine. IMO it depends on what you are better at sanding vs buffing. Also the risk of overheating the clear with the buffing compounds. I'm like you and lean to a better final sanded surface vs cutting it with compounds.
I really just want to say that I’ve been watching you for a while and your ability to narrate in a way that, even non woodworkers like myself, can understand and filmography have gotten so good! Keep up the good work 👍
I love your video's! I'm now in my finals of the year (college) and when I study, I prefer something to listen too, at least sometimes. 3 days ago I found your channel and love it, I am not even that interested in wood but it's just nice to hear about someone else his passion.
I’ve been watching these videos for some time now, and man… you’re good! What a beautiful table! One day I hope to be able to make something half as nice as you. Thanks for posting. Always fun to watch and learn.
“Mappa”
This table show the depth of passion you have for your craft and art! It is hard to believe by the end that this table is, in fact made out of wood, not some exotic kind of stone! The exquisite level of work and craftsmanship you put into this and everything you have done so far that I have seen is truly impressive.
I do have a question though; so far from scrolling through your videos I can only see that you work with slabs of wood, I. E. Tables and desks, have you ever explored the idea or possibility of using an entire trunk of wood to create something? A close friend of mine just south of you near Lebanon always seems to have large trunks of wood which is what gave me my idea some years back…
Great work, as always. Watching a craftsman at his trade is very satisfying. Thanks for posting your videos on RUclips, the end results are always beautiful, a great blend of form and function. Hope you’ll continue sharing your work.
Mappa - thank you for honestly sharing your work and mistakes and inspiring all of us artists out here. 😀
'MAPPA" I really like your attention to detail and comments throughout that some might misunderstand, I can feel what you are saying. The quest for near perfection and willingness to never stop learning to be able to put out a better product really says it all. Thanks for the video!
This might be the most beautiful table I've ever seen! It actually might be the most beautiful thing made out of wood I've ever seen.
what a fabulous table! Such patience too, and it must be so satisfying to get such a wonderful final finish. Mappa.
Mappa. Just stunning. What a beautiful transformation. Well done Cam.
For filling those little burl holes, look into the epoxy putty by mohawk, I've been using it for the micro imperfections lately and haven't had any issues! Love the video as always cam
Just looking at these myself as you recommended them,£21 on Amazon and loads of colours so these would be a great idea I think.
Was going to say the same thing
I'm always amazed how much time it takes to make these table tops, looks easy but damn, it takes a lot of skill and patience
What do you mean, it took 23 minutes. He can pump out almost 3 of these an hour!

Mappa! This table is gorgeous. I know it’s an older video but I’ve only just discovered your channel and I absolutely love your work. I seriously need to win the lottery or something because I’ve seen a few tables you’ve made that are so gorgeous! This one is by FAR my favorite!!!
Mappa - One of the most beautiful pieces I have ever seen even with the mistakes, which you corrected so someone is going to get a truly piece of art that will look great in any home.
I would love to see a test video for the ceramic coating. maybe make two little cutting board sized chunks of wood, finished with epoxy, and one has the ceramic coating on, while the other doesnt. after a couple tests, I'd like to see how well the ceramic coating actually protects the resin finish
Incredibly beautiful Craftsmanship! Thank you for sharing this with us! Work like this is priceless because it’s one of a kind! I hope your auction goes well and you are compensated well for your work and time!
Mappa. I love watching and learning from your videos, mistakes, and knowledge. I'm a civil designer but I long to do work like this. Already have a 30x30 insulated shop just waiting.
I haven't seen ALL your videos/tables, but this one is my favorite. I definitely prefer this ebonized burl finish over the burnt wood tables. Nice job
I really like how this table came out and it’s so cool to see you try something different! I would love to see you try to restore an older table like one found at a yard sale, thrift store, antique store etc. I think it’d be great to see you add your own twist to it! just an idea :) keep up the amazing work!
Mappa-thank you're an incredible artist. I like watching your channel because you make it look so effortless but the reality is you're an amazing craftsman who has honed his skills. Thank you again!

Meppa...I love your mistakes, I love how honest you are with your builds, including the learning process behind it, I draw a lot and I hate it but I'm a perfectionist with most stuff, so when I see your vids and the amount of pacience and work behind them inspires me to be patient with myself on any learning path and eventually will actually make something as awesome as your fantastic builds. Oficially obssesed with your videos now, much love from Chile.

Hi Cam, great video as usual, was really impressed with the depth that the finish added to the wood figure in this project, whereas often dyes or stains can reduce clarity or contrast. This is a classic case of letting the wood speak to you!

Mappa cool. I’m in Alaska and just about to begin clearing out and prepping my shop to build my first table, desk, benches, etc. from some oak that I cut in ‘21 from tree and milled when I was stuck during the pandemic down there in Missouri. A 6000 mile trip hauling it up here that ended up costing me $12,000, and now I’m finally going to be able to make some furniture. I enjoy your videos.
Mappa - I've enjoyed watching your content for the past couple of years so I don't think one small hiccup will deter me from continuing watching. If nothing else I'm constantly learning while watching. Hoping one day to be able to start creating my own pieces even closer to this level. Thanks for taking the time to release this content.
@mikea hiooi get a dead tree from a storm, let it dry for a bit, take it to a woodyard willing to cut it into slabs for you, then dry them out further till they are not going to keep warping anymore
Often after a storm, or when a tree is dying, people want the tree taken away,
and some have to pay someone to do it.
so talking to local farmers, council workers that do the landscaping, or contractors who maintain gardens and landscapes for other people/companies.
they are bound to have a tree or stump they don't want.
but it will take a bit of leg work, a bit of getting to know people, and setting up that repour , and really some luck as well.
but of course, it means your putting time and patience into setting things up so people know your looking for it, and the running around, because you want to keep reminding them.
but you might have to rent a trailer, and other tools, or hire someone who has them,
so finding something free, may cost you more then just paying for it.
but keep the local timberyards in your favourites, and spend time online keeping an eye on things, and visiting them, so again, they know who you are, and that your trying to save some money.
a couple of years ago, [I am in Australia though] a friend found that there was a lot of wood from storms, and some power poles. that were basically on the side of the road, so anyone could come and use a chainsaw to trim the branches and load it on a trailer.
