Thanks for such an acutely shrewd analysis of GoW. Anurag Kashyap is indeed one of best directors in the world, and I would go on to argue that his use of music is simply unparalleled. Just listen to the music in Gulaal, GoW, DevD, Raman Raghav and even Bombay Velvet for that matter. The lyrics, the music, the tempo, and the dance in the film all contribute to deepening its impact. The man is great gift bestowed upon the lovers of cinema.

I always meet people who overly understate this film or AK. about Bombay Velvet, though a bad movie it's bad movie of AK and still leaps and bounds ahead of other commercial films. especially for painstakingly detailing of the period. Guess he fell in love with mafia and prohibition period in US and wanted to spin an al capone like tale on the likes of public enemies based in India. complete with Tommy Guns n all. I would say he almost succeeded. Please do some analysis of good flop films and bad hit films as a mash up. Kudos to your effort and keep making more videos.

Talking about similarities with godfather, the character "definite" seems to have been inspired by "Vincent Corleone" Sunny's illegitimate son. Both of them were hotheaded illegitimate sons of dead gangsters with ambition to do big. His conversation with Faizal Khan in one scene was very much similar to that of Michael's and Vincent's conversation in Godfather 3

Apart from repeated reference to Western Cinema, it is an excellent analysis of the masterpiece. The parallel drawn between GoW with other western masterpieces is not appropriate. Like most great directors, AK is inspired/influenced by other great directors. But such influence does not show up not as a blunt copy -- but a masterful repositioning/adaption in a context in a uniquely realistic Indian context spiced with Mr.Piyush Mishra's voice over and a soundtrack spiced with Bombay Movies . In fact, that proves more definitely that he is a master with his feet firmly grounded in Indian soil.

I'd try to help you out. There isn't a fixed definition for this term, but to put it loosely, it is the response to 'Modernism' and 'Modernism' delves a lot on structuralism.
So, anything which breaks free from such structuralism (a fixed set of rules and regulations) comes under post modernism or post structuralism.
Like mentioned in this video, Pulp Fiction is the epitome of post modern cinema. It breaks free from a structured narrative and adopts a non linear screenplay. Tarantino made that film in such a way that we are always aware of the fact that we are only watching a film. The entire film is aware that it is just a film. This again is a clear shift from structuralism. Pulp Fiction pays homage to many artists/musicians etc with the most popular one being 'The Jack Rabbit Slims' twist contest' which is a clear homage to the French new wave film 'A band of outsiders'. Paying homages in films is again a part of post modernism. I'm only scratching the surface here.
Now talking about 'Gangs of Wasseypur', it too breaks free from the conventional structuralism. It adopts an unconventional style of story telling, unconventional choice of cast and unconventional choice of music etc. Like Pulp Fiction, GoW is a self aware film.
It knows it is just a film. The constant homages to Bollywood movies and songs drive home this point and thus making GoW perhaps the best post modern film coming out from India.

Nice analysis. I know its too much to ask, but can you make videos on following subjects,
    1) Why are crappy movies like Chennai Express, Jai Ho or Dhoom 3 actually are crappy? What makes them crappy?
I know star power or Indian audience doesn't have knowledge about better content available. But other than these, technical analysis as you do. Like commn overused tropes or content, whaever.
    2) Video(s) on actors or director who usually don't give above average performance or movies, but their one performance or movie we should really appreciate.
Like Hritik Roshan's Lakshya or Guzaarish. I don't know, I am just the audience, this is what I could just think of.
    3) How bollywood's intense promotions makes people watch movie. I mean repeatedly playing same song over all radio channels, music channels, appearances of actors on TV.
Video on how this kind of marketing started and how it fools people into watching shitty movie just because it has renowned actor.
I know it's like asking too much maybe, but as an audience I never noticed various aspects of cinema which you line up in your videos. These are some question in my mind. I have tried to analyze it, but you do it in some differently different way.
    THANKS.

Watch more foreign cinema and art house and drama films. Don't pursue Actor, pursue director , cinematographer and editor. Try too avoid as much as big tent pool action films (that includes avengers But not LOTR,BLADE Runner).
Crappy commercial are available in all the countries but cinema in many countries changed with the fall of golden age with respective countries thus changing the defination of cinema and the visual literature which gave the rise of independent films. But in India with the hindi cinema the change never happened in a vast manner because in India such cinema usually got successfull due to word of mouth of critic and then of audience. Frankly Independent cinema of India was wasn't use to get much reviewed by the critics during the new wave and with that audience never get to knew about such films and hence this new wave didn't lasted much longer enough to bring wide change against the mid70s, 80s commercial films like the the way it did in Europe, Hollywood,Hongkong, South Korea etc and hence still same kind of hero is still produced and portrayed and watched by people because that how the cinema is defined 'healthy wholesome entertainment'.
Watch Bollywood Calling as a reference.
