    with the example of babu rao, he cleared it up for me why 90% of sequel movies are terrible. there is no room for character development left. the character has been exposed, so we are just left with the plot and no matter how good it is, it just wont have the same feel.

    • @wow9161
      @wow9161 4 месяца назад

      Yeah, but shouldn’t there be ways of how to make a sequel with good enough character development? 'Cause in real life, character development never stops. There's gotta be some way?

      Replace Plot with Story and you'll have it right. Plot is insignificant to Story because it's the big why that hooks the audience. Plot is the action and conflict part, but if your audience doesn't know or care why it's happening your movie will be forgotten quickly

  • @ritikthakur6261

    one more thing
    Shakespeare too concentrated more on characters
    and then the plot used to move around the characters (and in some cases )characters..😇

    • @ashutoshdube6560
      @ashutoshdube6560 5 лет назад +7

      Totally agreed......shakesperian characters are always internally conflicted and some times they are not even morally correct but still attractive and captivative. Its always hard to choose a side and keep it thorough out the story as they keep on changing or they keep on revealing their other behaviours.

    Kabir Khan from Chak de, India can be considered too. His characterization was that of a strict, hard hearted coach who has no emotions, but his character reveals itself in many occasions. Like the one where he tries to turn silver medal to gold, the scene where he supports Vidya in her family crisis etc. And we come to know that his true character was a patriotic, betrayed fantastic hockey player who wants his team to win at any cost and believes in his team.

    Absolutely agree with your interpretation! Plot is necessary, but the characters not only express the true plot, but many times enhance and elevate it eloquently. If executed properly, the moral/ethical choices made by the character reveals hidden motivations and desires which cannot be explored deeply only within the confines of plot and no character development.

      Dude don't take this advice. Your screenplay will be weak and forgettable. Stephen King says Story over Plot because Plot is the what. The big chase scenes, the shootouts, the bar fights. Story is the why. Story is your characters desire, goals and motivations. If you don't have characters with strong desires, then it won't matter what happens to them because your viewer won't care. Someone put it like,"It's about the Journey, not the destination." That is VERY wrong. If your destination is trash then your audience will feel cheated. They wanna care about who they are watching, so when the plot points come in we are engaged to see if they succeed or not. Good Luck on your work, but seriously, don't focus on the plot. That will come to you and will change the most. But if you have characters that are relatable with desires and a clear want, your writing will be outstanding.

    Character decisions create plot, especially dilemma decisions, under stressful circumstances.
    The plot is just the path. The road splits in certain places: do you go toward the person you have a crush on, or stay with the person who hasn't betrayed you yet? But only the character can walk that path; only that person can make that choice. And the best stories make them make this choices at moments of intense stress.

    This video was worth the wait....atlast someone had said something about Akshay Kumar's choices of the characters...he may be doing the patriotic movies but not good characters...Daniel Day Lewis is good example of one actor playing different characters..and Martin Scorsese is my all time favourite director so his words are pure gold

    Pokiri or wanted is a good example of distinction between character and characterization

    It makes us truly appreciate all the movies that we have seen and moved on unnoticed about its depth.

    Not going to lie... when I heard "After all this time... ALWAYS" gave me some serious goosebumps! Looks like a Harry Potter marathon is in order.
    P.S. - Another amazing video, I am not even surprised anymore. There are so many of us who go through the same emotions while enjoying the film.
    If you are taking requests I would love to see an analysis of "How does one know If it is the actor or the character that does not work in some films / series'?" Some characters in a movie annoy me so much, but then you see the others in the film and wonder what is wrong. For example - "Zero" Anushka and SRK are boring and downright annoying, but Katrina keeps you engaged. (Watched it on Netflix, can't believe I did, but here we are!) Now, Anushka and SRK are proven actors and still you feel disconnected. On the other hand, Katrina with her limited acting record, she is doing amazing. WHY? Writing, directing, acting, or is it the character? Another example, "La Casa De Papel" - Tokyo, the character is beyond annoying. It frustrates me knowing that everyone else is doing an excellent job. Why is it that one that bugs you with her decisions? Many of them make bad choices, but why is it that one which stands out.
    Not sure if I explained correctly, but hope you understand what I am asking for! Anyway, cheers!
