At 3:16 you have included the poster of "When Harry met Sally".
It's not a typical Romantic movie.
It does not start with love at first sight or stalking or something else you mentioned.
It's the opposite. It starts with the pair not going well with each other, clash of opinions.
Then they dont even spend time with each other, they don't even become friends in the first place. They become friends gradually and after 5 or 10 years after they first met. They don't fall in love all of a sudden.
It's a good movie among the other posters you've included.
This is for the people who haven't seen the movie and think that it's a crappy movie.
    It's not.
I'm not blaming the creator for this mistake. He might not have noticed it.
    Great content by the way.

This is pretty spot on, man, especially the ways in which the idea of 'true' love sometimes translates into something disturbing. Just one thing I'll point out is that while the importance of verbal communication needs to be emphasised, human beings have a tendency to communicate more through body language than through words, and while Bollywood has exaggerated it, intuitiveness and other forms of non-verbal communication, especially in couples which have been together for a some time, is perfectly acceptable and natural.

For me, love is the highest level of intimacy that adds value to our lives and gives us comfort. Someone who accepts and likes us the way we are. People who love each other help us become the best version of ourselves. And this is very rare to find but not impossible. For this we should be open to meeting someone and be present by removing all the stereotypes. And if you don't get it, then work on yourself. Do anything that makes you happy. You will definitely get it sometime.

Much awaited video on Romanticism. Marvellous one.
It can't be denied that these movies affected us thoroughly over the years. The idea of love is imposed on us by these movies in the manner they wanted. No one tried to experiment. Though I think that Imtiaz somewhere changed the way we used to see love stories but at the same time he lacks many things you mentioned in your video.
I wish you would bring out your version of love on-screen some day.
And again fabulous video. Good work. Thanks.

Hi, there is a film called rashomon that I indent to talk about, a film that I think was way ahead of its time in terms of cinematic techniques, its cinematography and editing was so beautifully done that when you watch it, it feels like the film is flowing like a fluid, also I think the film raises a lot of philosophical questions and makes you think, akira kurosawa was one of the very few film makers of his time that were trying to attempt depth in their films. This is utterly irrelevant from the video, but I am curious about knowing your views on the film please.

This is something that we discuss everyday. There are so many stories about India but Bollywood thinks that the only topic that is worth making a movie is LOOOOOVVVVVEEE. I've taken a break from Bollywood after 'Jagga Jasoos' because I can't waste my money watching these half-arsed movies. I prefer to watch movied that're coming on Amazon Prime, like Trapped and Death in the Gunj. But no more of this mainstream horseshit until Bollywood realises what a skewed reality they're portraying. Thanks for making this video!

The reason is simple. These filmmakers in Bollywood live mostly lavish lives and have zero clue about the lives of the common man. They have ample time for love, relationships, breakups and such nonsense since they don't have to worry about jobs, financial security and education that an everyday man faces. So for them love is the only topic in life these other issues can be lived without.

As much as I agree with the most parts of your explanation, I feel you have shown only one side of the coin. Films, definitely affect and influence society but the process happens the other way round too. Films are a reflection of the society, as firstly, they are made by people emerging from the society itself and secondly those very films are the ones which people choose to go and watch. Having said that, I'm happy about the fact that there is an evident change in the society with the second decade of this century. Thanx to Internet and the power to choose the content you would want to watch at any time you want.

I'm not Indian, but since I started watching Bollywood films I really loved them and I deeply respect and appreciate the amount of work and effort that goes into a production of a Bollywood film. They're master pieces. There's truly nothing like Bollywood films. That being said, you're absolutely right and spot on with your analysis. One other thing that really strikes me with all Bollywood films that some audience might run the danger of believing would occur in their realities, is just the profound amount of coincidences and conveniences that end up working out in the protagonist's favour. All the protagonist has to do, is just be brave and take risks on an adventure and everything will somehow always work out in the end, exactly how he/she wants it. In some films it gets to a point where you think: "Come on, I know this is a movie, but even for a movie's standard this is gone too far". No matter where the two potential lovers go and what they do, fate somehow brings them back (it's just meant to be). I'm sure some people believed in this at some point and soon were very disappointed to find out that's just not reality.

Just came across your video. And I would like to point out wherein you mentioned about this delusion that when in love we won't have to express anything but the other person will himself/herself know. I can tell you that I have myself done this past. And guess movies do have major impact in our lives. These things are not possible in real life. Communication is a major part of any relationship. The other person in not Parmatma that he/she will know everything going on in our minds. And these can sometimes be a reason of breaking down a relationship. Thank Goodness, I realized this.

I have watched other videos made by you and this was the best! I felt that in most of your videos you analyze films based on technical aspects of filmmaking and citing examples to explain those technical concepts and elaborate their application. In This video, however, you engage with questions of representation .i.e representation of love, of gender and how that shapes viewers' mindsets. Thanks for that! I would also like to add that Bollywood cinema propagates a narrow idea of who can be in a relationship or in love, usually young males and females. Same sex love, or love between older people is disastrously represented or is completely absent.
