    Very good video but one thing I would caution you and others to do is twist or crimp the phase wires together because on long steep hills, the high currents carried by phase wires can melt solder. This might act as a built in fuse, saving the motor, but most times it is a bad idea.
    This is especially important when upgrading to a more powerful high amp model (yeah!).

    Surprised you managed to find a ESC that fit the frame housing where the stock was. Mine surprisingly was bit larger. Weirdly my STOCK ESC was also half the size then yours at 0.55. I mean like Really tiny. They must've made a bigger ESC inside to stop it from jiggling inside the frame as some have mentioned they heard noises like clanking going about. Since the older ESC being tiny were just doublesided taped in place.
    Either way nice video.

    I have a hyper I just bought (black cruiser) because their dirt cheap (it was actually my first e-bike I bought a few years ago when they first dropped to $799 but I returned it within 90 days)
    Then I bought a mountain bike one with a thumb throttle with a 500w motor that I'm still using, so I just bought this new one specifically for this mod.
    So this may sound like a dumb question but if the new display has the thumb throttle attached did you really need a new controller? Or did both sets of wires go into that new display? Because the 810 has that 6km pace button (which is kind of like a throttle that only goes 6km)

      Incorrect. The rear stock hub motor is internally limited unless you are stupid enough to put 350-500watts into a 36volt 250watt hub motor. So there is no way to make it go faster from a 250watt 36volt ESC period. But that'll just likely burn and explode the motor. So no there is no way to do this unless you also upgrade the hub motor. Plus the internal battery is very small and you aren't gonna get much power off it. I barely get 5miles on my front 500watt kit. Though it might also be pretty power demanding on throttle. But even so. You're gonna decease range performance by far.

    Can you replace the soldering with twisting them together then putting on a heat shrink wire connectors, if not what do you suggest I do?

    • @ElectronicLab.
      @ElectronicLab.  5 месяцев назад +2

      I've used the "soldering and heat shrink tubing" technique when I built a 5000watt e-bike, and I've driven that bike for over 500 miles without any problem. my opinion is: if you want to be able to quickly and easily remove the motor controller in the future, then I recommend using connectors. but if you just want to go the the easy route, then I recommend twisting together the wires, soldering them, and then insert some heat shrink tubing.

    Also a note to others. If you ADD a throttle by VIA changing the ESC. You WILL lose about 7miles of range dropping you to 13miles of full range (VIA Throttle only driving.) Also at half range of power (6 1/2miles) Your speed will reduce to 15mph. Then after few miles more your speed will slowly dip as the battery runs out. And that's running till your almost to a jog to a very fast walk pace. Not sure why it does this for a Lithium battery compared to a Lead Acid. But it does for some reason.
    So if you wish to keep full 20miles of range without most of the performance lost. Don't upgrade to throttle. Just do the air pedal effect. You don't need to pedal hard or fast when you're on high or medium. The PAS just needs a few spins to keep it going. It'll also work WITHOUT the chain since the PAS sensor is connected on the pedals on the drive side or for easier info the chain ring.

      @stephendollan6669 does the motor spin smoothly? or is it jittery when spinning? If it is jittery when spinning, it might be triggering the overcurrent protection from the battery. so you might want to try changing around the three motor phase wires configuration until it spins smoothly. Ps the setting where you put in how many magnets are in the motor, only has to do with the speedometers accuracy and not with the motors behavior.

      Usually, if there are any speed restrictions, it won't matter if you use pedal assist or throttle. The easiest solution would be to check online "how to program an e-bike display." You might be able to raise the speed

      try to change the nominal voltage from e-bikes display which I show how to do in this video at about the 2 minute mark: ruclips.net/video/_Bh6IKfam08/видео.html
      if it's already set to the same voltage from you're battery and it still doesn't work, than set it to the lowest possible voltage setting which I think is 24volts. nothing should get damage, the controller will now think that you're running a 24volt battery and nothing else. I do have to mention though, that the displays battery indicator will not be accurate after doing this, but it will give you an accurate voltage measurement by pressing the power button until it gives you the voltage

    I have this same exact bike and I followed the INCOMPLETE tutorial and now I am stuck. I bought the same controller box you did. There is a Hall Sensor block and you completely gloss over the SEVEN wires to hook up here. All you did at 2:10 was point at the 7 wires. Meanwhile the Hall Sensor block is a 5 pin plug. This means I have 2 extra wires from the 10 wire coax cable that are unknowns. I do realize the title of you video is how to add a THROTTLE and not how to add a controller, but you showed us this is done by adding the controller. Meanwhile I could have saved money on the build had I found this other video where they show wiring a thumb throttle to a bike without a display. I can no longer do this since I already cut all cables off the old controller and unless you have an ANSWER... I am screwed.

    • @ElectronicLab.
      @ElectronicLab.  3 месяца назад

      most e-bikes come with a hall sensor cable, which has 5 main wires(telling the speed controller in what position it is in) and sometimes one or two more wires, which are usually a temperature sensor and/or a speed sensor.
      now the most Important wires are the 5 main wires(usually red, black, green, yellow and blue).
      by hooking up these 5 wires(most of them color to color), assuming you've already connected the red and black power wires, the display and the throttle, the motor should start spinning as soon as you twist the throttle.
      if it instead starts vibrating or making a noise as if it is spinning, you might have to play around with the 3 motor phase wires until you get it spinning. PS, if you do get it spinning but it spins in the wrong direction, you can temporarily (3 to 5 seconds) connect the two green wires which will change the direction.

      @@ElectronicLab. Thanks, I will give this a try in the kitchen tonight. What I find makes a controller swap most difficult is the lack of standardization of the ebike equipment. I admit, I am an old timer who has been spoiled by USB, plug and play, and ISO in my workings with PCs. I take it your Hyper E Mountain Bike didn't have an extra gray and brown wire in there. I will let you know how this works out.
      NEXT DAY
      Last night I got all the Hall Sensors attached left out gray and brown. Ran a jumper on the throttle ( data and +5 v dc) and it went to high speed. Now I am just working on cramming all this back inside the bike. BTW The bike is less than 1 year old and over the winter I used it rain or shine. Their LED display mounted on the handle bar is NOT waterproof and shorted out. I like this throttle but still have the PAS as a backup. Using the throttle means I will be recharging more often but worth it. Thanks for the speedy response.

      To fix the motor issue, you have to reconfigure the 3 phase wires coming from the motor until it works(my own experience), and to fix the low voltage error, you might have to re-program the display. There should be instructions in the piece of paper the controller came with. It should give you 24v, 36v, 52v, and 60v voltage options(check your battery what voltage it runs at)
