  • We tested our blood glucose and ketones after drinking coffee. Our conclusion is yes, it is ok to have cream in coffee during your fast, but there are five important things that you need to keep in mind for optimal health and weight loss benefits.
    In this video, I'll share...
How black coffee compared to coffee with cream
    Why we didn't test insulin
How the calories in cream affect your fast
How much cream is too much?
If you should be worried about autophagy

I WANT TO THANK YOU WITH ALL MY HEART! I am 52 with a disabled child in my care (with no help) and poor sleep. About 6 months ago I felt drastic changes in my body EVERYWHERE! I began sweating like crazy, extremely dry skin, weight gain and almost no sleep. I found you on RUclips about 3 weeks ago and started eating what you recommend, discarded everything else, purchased MCT oil, maca powder, Primal Kitchen and began 16 hour fasting! I have lost 10 pounds, I sleep better and the nuclear power plant in me is almost gone! YOU HELPED ME SO MUCH AND I FEEL LIKE A NEW PERSON! A million thanks for sharing your knowledge!

Cream in my morning coffee really helps me make my 18 to 24 hour fast. With no cravings, no headaches and feeling better everyday this is a great new world. Memories of carb eating are fading away as well but with out the physical gant-craving feelings the memories of those favourite carb fixes diminish and are overpowered by feeling stronger and more positive.

I have 3 cups with cream every morning, and normally check blood sugar and ketones around 1030. Blood sugar usually 80-82, ketones around 1.3. I’m only a few pounds from my goal weight, but still slowly losing. I think enjoying your coffee really gives you strength to delay your first meal, I recommend it.

This is a great video. What would be interesting to test is to have more coffees with cream but during different fasting ratios of say 20:4 and 16:8. I’m betting that the 20:4 with more coffee will outweigh the extra coffee. This extra coffee with cream will definitely help in fasting for longer.

that little bit of evidence at the end sealed it for me. The part about Mr. Gilaspy adding cream to his beverages (coffee). Naturally, it would slow down autophagy rather than increase it, due to the fact that, as you pointed out, a number of times, the body will make use of those new fats (the cream) first. It's overall impact would be minimal provided the servings are not excessive. I love a good dash of cream in my brewed coffee. In any case I'm not that overweight - 96 kilos and falling (6 feet tall). Thanks Doctor

    • @eldenl1

Ketosis is the state of producing Ketones. Ketones are produced when your body breaks down fat for use as fuel, the fuel is the ketone. Burning fat causes ketosis. Basically they are the same thing. You cannot get ketones from burning carbs.

Even if fat burning is slowed by cream, it outweighs the cons for me: if I have black coffee, I get sweaty, anxious and my stomach burns (even if I only have one!). And cream allows me to have two rather than one cup, and I get hungry later in the day. Plus its yum. But no one talks about that.
