AMAZING paint wash dresser makeover- paint dipped technique

- Ever have a project that constantly challenges your initial plan for it? This piece went through several scenarios in my mind before I finally ended up here!
Using a gorgeous custom mixed paint colour for the base and a custom mixed paint wash for the woodgrain, changing the lower drawer pulls, etc, this piece is both beautiful and completely one of a kind now.
I do a LOT of mid century restorations where I try to keep as much of the natural woodgrain as possible. This mass produced, mid century department store dresser was the perfect candidate for something a little different. I love how it turned out.
Plus, you asked for it... another RESCUE BUNNY INTERMISSION! haha ❤️

I was just thinking before I saw your comment - this lady is some kind of furniture wizard! Another astonishing and beautiful transformation. I feel sorry for all the furniture that doesn't get to meet Angie!
I feel sorry for all the furniture I have tried to refinish. Lol. Patience and a gentle touch is the magic.
Perfect comment!
This gal has such a creative mind, and she isn't afraid to try things. Love her creativity & courage!
(And bunnies!)
So funny - I just clicked to comment that Angie makes magic.
You have quickly become my favorite furniture refurbisher on RUclips. You have such a good eye for color and how to best refinish a piece, and I love hearing your thought process behind color selection and hardware. Also--bunnies! Thanks for another great video.
Lauri, I agree! Angie is my favorite restore and refinisher too. She is so incredibly talented, not only in trade skill, but also in her design choices. If I lived in her part of Canada, I would buy a piece of her furniture, and I would pat the bunnies! 💕 Angie, want to come to Chicago and refinish my bedroom? 😘
Es she is.. It is her power point
This is what happens when a faithful dresser that has led a humble life grows old and prays for a supreme being to come and take it to an afterlife. 😊
You really are so much more than a restorer.. you're an artist.
I've got a harmony house dresser just like that at home!! By today's standards, it is pretty decent quality
Better than original 👍
Just wow! I love this combination of colors. In my opinion, I think your vision is far better than what the brand-new version ever was.
🐼 Big Bear Hugs from a 68 yr old grandma in Kirby, Texas, USA 🐼 ❤ 🎀 ❤ 🎀 ❤ 🎀
The washing technique you used on this dresser makes the final product look very much like blond 1950’s stuff I grew up with! Nice trip back to the past for me!
I know that finish well! I still see it every now and then on marketplace :-)
@@TranscendFurnitureGallery Yes..it was quit elegant in its day..and certainly a bright spot when rooms were full of dark mahogany and cast off walnut and oak furniture from prior to WW2. But ya made do with what you had…glad I was exposed to soooo much furniture history when I was young…I blame Mom!!!
Aww, I loved the bunny enrichment break! I love seeing how different animals solve problems.
The dresser looks awesome too!
Wow! Now that is a classy piece. Your intuition for the color and hardware choice just turned this mass production piece into something unique and special. Well done 🙌🏽🌈👍🏾and as always, I love the bunny content!
Nice work! And omg, the bunny closed captioning was hysterical. 😂
Hahaha I’m glad you like it
Your skill in refinishing and the new vision you have for a piece shows your natural talent. This piece has a rich look. I would love to have something like this.
"I don't paint wood." That's what I usually say, but your pieces are absolutely beautiful. You make mid-century pieces POP into the twenty-first century. Your sense of color is a gift. I just refinish antiques for a hobby.
Two hints I learned from an Italian cabinet-maker in the 1950s that no one seems to know. First, when using screws (new or old), rub the screw along a piece of Ivory soap until all the grooves are covered. Then they won't ever rust and when the soap hardens it keeps the bond very tight. It also make the screw go in easily. Secondly, when there is a loose joint but the rest of the piece is fine, inject a small amount of piano pin oil. A drop will cause the wood to swell to fit. It gets into the smallest voids and makes them swell up working around the old glue. Pin oil is not cheap or easy to find--but it works wonders. It dissolves plastic instantly so I suggest using a glass eye dropper.
It is my sincere hope your channel soars.
Wow, that "beige-wash" looks great, as does everything else about the finished piece!
And OMG, those bunnies ... 😍
You are an artist and perfectionist. I don't think I ever dislike any of your projects. I love when you sometimes change your mind midway.
All along I kept thinking, aha! Finally caught her messing up! This CAN'T be a good idea!! And, who gets so fussy about shades of green!?! Wrong. Dawg, woman, you nail it every time. This piece is slap dab gorgeous.
Haha thank you! 😊
Gorgeous outcome is an understatement! Truly stunning.
Can You hear the crowd shouting
RaaaaahHhhhH!!
Angie, you knocked this One out of the ballpark! Way2go!!!
Another great piece Angie. I love that you let your creativity flow when a piece speaks to you. You have a wonderful sense of style.
Love the lines of this dresser! The paint treatment really brings it to an incredible level!
I always look forward to your videos. You have amazing taste.
So pretty, Angie! I love the beige wash, and the green is a perfect shade, much better than the greyish green with that beige. I adore the angles on the top drawers and the legs on this piece. The lines are so elegant and you've unleashed its inner beauty!
Beautiful !!!!! I am an absolute fan of your work 👍😎🐕🦺
You defenitely gave it a second chance in life, and it looks better than the first time around. Wow!
This was an awesome project
You always know exactly what to do to make the pieces come alive again.
That turned out stunning. You never cease to amaze with your creations. Your eye for detail and color is always spot on ❤️❤️
I'm rarely a fan of the "dipped" look. But you know what you're doing AND the right piece to pick. Beautiful job Angie.
Thank you so much! 😊
Amazing transformation, of course! Your vision was right on. Love this piece. Thank you for the 'transcendence'.
Love the dresser and the bunny intermission! You’re narration of what they are saying is spot on!
I watch many furniture makeover channels and this is the nicest re-do I’ve seen. Very impressed. Looks amazing. I’m subscribing!
Aww thank you! ❤️
You are kinda like a surgeon. That kind of surgeon that’s extremely skilled, always caring, and completely thorough. Yes, that’s my new nickname for you. Angie: The Furniture Surgeon! 😊
Awe, thank you so much! 😊
I thought the grey was right. But I see now you were so right to choose those colours makes it look so classy your so clever well done you xx
Now I get why the comment section is praising you so much… what a transformation! You really are a magical worker!
Flanders looks like my first Mini Lop.
Totally transformed into something much more contemporary. Wonderful job x
You are such a brilliant teacher. Another thing, which is natural to you... is that you have a voice that is so pleasing to listen to. You have Bunny energy!
(Thank you for sharing the bunnies!!! Such a fan).
..Oh, I don't know if you would know the answer to this, but do you know if wild bunnies eat differently from domesticated breeds? (and, if so... what they like?). I just thought I'd ask (but if you don't have time, or don't know, don't worry!).
Thank you for these wonderful videos. They are such a treat!
There will always be mistakes and excursions from your predicted route, but this feels more like you responding creatively to your instincts: leveraging your accumulating experience to make interesting, well-judged decisions. Nice work!
I love watching your videos! The end result of every piece you work on always blows me away. You do such fantastic work that it really does suck you in for the whole video.
Thank you so much for watching! 😊
Beautiful work! To me, it has a very 50’s vibe. You are so knowledgeable and never disappoint.
very pretty 😍
Can never go wrong with green. Dresser is better now than when it was new. Bunnies are cool. My therapy is lambs and goats. When they are bottle babies they become obnoxious and in your business. Thanks for sharing another incredibly, informative and interesting video.
Another great transformation. I’ve never before seen top mounted drawer guides. Nice veneer patching.
You accentuated the architectural lines - there’s more movement in it now. Reminds me of waves moving along the side of a boat. Lovely.
Thank you! I didn’t love that wavy bit on the bottom initially but oddly enough, after I painted it, I really do love it!
@@TranscendFurnitureGallery Same!
The bunnies were adorable
Thank you!
I’m a newbie (close to 80 yo). I’m in awe of you imagination, skill and carry through, especially with repairs. Wow. I wish I was as strong as I used to be. I try to work smarter, not harder. Help, help, help. Gotta take legs off a piece. Oy vey. You inspire me. Thanks.
You're welcome!
That’s so lovely. The colours work so beautifully together. It’s also one of the most unusual pieces I’ve seen. Great job. 👏👏
BRAVO! It looks beautiful! Such creativity with the colors! Just love it! ❤️❤️👍🏼👍🏼
This piece makes me very happy. Those bunnies make me very happy as well. 💕
loved the bunny intermission. Also love your sensitivity to colour, those small shifts can make a huge effect on the final product. The slight shift to green made all the difference. Your use of hardware, likewise, makes a huge difference to the final effect.
Thank you so much for watching Carol!
I often don’t care for paint when refinishing mcm pieces, but this looks so pretty. I love the color choices and that you can see the grain through the wash on the top. The wash might be my favorite feature.
I love what you’ve done with this piece! Because of the two tone effect, you brought out the different shapes of the top and the bottom. The design of the piece is enhanced by this. And I love the colours ❣️ ( did I notice you’ve had a hair cut? Looks good 👍🏼 )
Definitely a winner! I think the custom green was a great choice but when properly applied I admit there's something awesome about black on the combo colored pieces. It is nice to use creativity and keep the process interesting.
Oh I lovvvve black with woodgrain. It’s my go to- it’s just so classic and elegant!
That was just a gorgeous remodel! My OCD loves your workmanship, your nicely organized shop, your eye for detail--the hardware, the tiny clean veneer fixes, getting the perfect colors, etc. The color wash was spot on. The lines of that piece of furniture reminded me of the cool vintage airliners. The swoop of the base/feet was so cool. Really nice find. That piece is now museum quality. Really nice job. My husband watched this one with me and he was impressed too and saw how I like your videos. I'm a retired graphic designer so have a really good eye for details. You're that same kind of breed!
I LOVE everything about this makeover, Angie. From the shape of the piece, your color choice (as much as I love that gray custom color, adding a little more green/Bayberry was perfect), the wash and choice of hardware (which looks great with the original). This definitely goes with one of my favorite pieces of yours!💜
Loved how this turned out. You always seem to know exactly what is best for a piece with paint vs wood. That buns provided a good laugh. It think it is sometimes funny when their tempers show. Most people don’t know rabbits can be temperamental
Oh they are funny little beings, lol :-)
I'm a little late to this video, another great job, also I think your voice overs in general are very informative and you have a comfortable style of talking that draws you in ~ 😀
I appreciate that! 😊
When I saw that green color I thought ewww, but the item looks beautiful, you have a magic eye for colors.
Thank you kindly! 😊
Impeccable work! Loved the rescue bunny intermission-especially the captions :).
I don’t normally liked the dipped look but because that has a natural division I love it♥️
That was my thought exactly- I prefer it where it makes visual sense!
Well the dresser turned out fab 😃👍🏻👏🏻 but I wanna talk about the bunniesssssssss! 🐇🐇🐇 OMG Just bless their hearts they are so dear and beautiful and SMART! Kiss them up for us all. Thank you for sharing them with us. 💕🐇💕🐇💕🐇
You're so welcome! 🐰
Spot on! Everything looks perfect. I can't add anything to this one. :-)
Sigh. Good gosh I wish I had your vision and talent. I do my best, but this is just gorgeous. I can recreate, but I can't come up with it on my own. I am so in awe of your skill! BEAUTIFUL!
Fabulous job Angie as always. I like the new hardware too and I didn't think I would as the original was so beautiful. And as for those bunnies, yes they're very clever but my goodness talk about an attitude. Did no-one ever tell them you never insult the hand that teases you with food! Cheeky as. Ah that was so funny though. I thought it was brilliant when they started shaking it. Animals are far more intelligent than we give them credit for. Truly.
Hi there! I started watching your videos due to my interest in the topic. When I saw how good you are at what you do, I continued enjoying them. Then I discovered something I had not expected. I struggle with stress, anxiety and major sleeping problems, and I use medicine for my issues almost every day.
But your voice is so happy, warm and comfortable, that it makes me feel relaxed and safe. So now I watch your videos both for educational reasons, entertainment, and to fall asleep.
I normally watch two of them every night, and then I have to go back to watch the second part of the last one next morning. 😄 I alternate between your videos, Nicola White and The Northern Mudlarks. You all have the same effect on me. Happy voices from what I believe to be good people.
So thank you so much for what you do here on RUclips, and thanks for helping me cutting back on the meds!
Love from a fan in Norway.
Wow, I am touched that I am able to help! I'm glad you're enjoying my content and you absolutely are safe here, always. Thank you so much for watching and the incredible comment. Be well. ❤️
GURL ONCE AGAIN, YOU PUT YOUR FOOT IN THIS!!! FABULOUS!!!
Thanks so much Dottie! ❤️
Great trick to do a paint wash to keep wood lighter. What a great new look for that dresser.
Angie you are the best! Your videos are so informative and well made, your voice is calming, and you are so talented.
I would enjoy a video where you talk about your art background and show some of your work.
Also I like your new haircut! 😄
Thanks for the cute bunnies, I enjoyed their chatter.
I was on the fence until the reveal... I just couldn't see what you saw. BUT WOW this piece turned out so beautiful!!! The bunnies crack me up, they were getting the snacks one way or another-so smart!
I'm glad you stuck with it til the end! 😀
Another gorgeous piece that leaves me speechless 😍😍
I believe your artistic background is what makes your projects outstanding! The color choices and finishes are awesome!
Absolutely beau! Loooove it! You sure gave it anew life! Merci Angie! You are the best on YT! Christine 🇨🇦
I am not usually a huge fan of the painted looks, but this is lovely!
This was an amazingly awesome makeover. I am finding my self SOOOO...!!!! JEALOUS!!! of your talent🤣🤣🤣. I've done a couple pcs. Or I should say, " I've started a couple of tables." My work space hasn't been all that spacious. Doubling as storage and unheated. But now we have a new work shop and I hope to get something finished. Your work is inspiring.
Wow, Angie, you're getting really wild and crazy. You didn't even bust out your scraper!😁
I am in Germany and i have never see so much cool hardware. the furniture here is nothing to write home about and like I said you can forget the hardware.
Thanks for watching!
Angie. I totally admire your attention to detail as it totally and fully "transforms" your work from basic to magnificent!!
Thank you very much! 😊
Bunny intermission was hilarious!
Thanks for watching!
Nice save. The wash reminds me of the blonde furniture finishes I remember from my youth.
Love the bleached wood effect without using bleaching agents. Looks great with the green. Don’t forget navy blue as a great color for painted pieces!
Thanks for watching! 🙂
nice work. different things( paint, metal), but in harmony. i love bunny with a sense of humor.
Thank you so much for watching!
What a beautiful makeover! When I was 14 I inherited my grandmother's Harmony House bedroom set and the dresser looked just like this piece. I wasn't allowed to take the set with me when I moved out so my baby sister became the new owner of the set and unfortunately it didn't survive her teen years. Love vids!! Keep up the great work.
That's kind of heart breaking! Thank you so much for watching and I am so sorry to hear about your set.
I love the "raw" walnut look. Stunning.
Thank you so much! 😊
Dang! Mr. Dewalt has a glorious green tail...not sure why I noticed this, when considering the veneer repair...which is amazing, not for the timid ones!!!
Love the soft tone you conjured out of the wood, and the combination of paint and wood being so different and yet going so well together 😍
Thank you so much!
Love your work and the bunnies are sooo adorable. Captions are hilarious 😂❤️
Wow!!! This is an amazing transformation! Love it!!!
I am just ALWAYS amazed by what you do with furniture. Another stunning piece. Brava! Angie!! Well done. I LOVE this piece. It's unusual ... the rounded front drawer, and how you highlighted that by painting it as you did. The drawer pulls are another brilliant feature. Three styles of drawer pulls and they look completely natural. I can't say enough good about this ... !!! It is very classy.
Yes - more bunnies, please!
Oh my gosh...loved the bunny commentary!
I'm so glad! Thank you so much for watching!
the bunnies made me laugh! Beautiful piece! thanks for letting us watch through the process!
You're most welcome! 😃
Colour choice is always my biggest problem and it's why it takes me so long to start a project. You have a really good eye when it comes to colour. This dresser looks great.
Really like the wash color, it really goes so well with the paint color. Toned down the red undertones in the walnut perfectly. Wonderful job, thanks for sharing with us. The bunnies are adorable, getting into their Lil food puzzle 😅😅😊❤❤
Thank you! Cheers!
Thats a really beautiful job you have done there..well done angie
i've been thinking about getting a bunny for years! this inspires me to resurrect my dream. seeing them play with that enrichment toy was entertaining. thank you!
You're so welcome! Bunnies are amazing! ❤️
Love the bunny break....oh, and the furniture part too!
It’s a wow 🤩. Love all the elements of this - the (literally & figuratively) top drawer colour/finish, the bottom 2/3 green, the new and the refurbished handles, the curve of the upper drawers. Feels like a very special, eclectic outstanding yet subtle being. Beautiful, inspired job 👍 👏
Love the piece but… THE BUNNIES❤️❤️❤️
❤️❤️ two for the beautiful furniture project, ❤️❤️❤️ for the bunnies!!
Thank you so much! 😊
