I love walnut and the grain on this piece is beautiful. Great save on a piece that has so much familial meaning. I lean towards black hardware but this hardware is so unique and in good condition that I can see leaving the original finish.
I have to say that Mid Century Modern furniture was so well designed. I am so heartened as well that you saved Andrea's grandparents' furniture. It is an homage to their taste. As well, I'm glad that you kept the drawer pulls in their original finish. Maybe ten years from now you can spray them black for an updated look. But for now enjoy what the piece must have looked like the day her grandparents had the furniture delivered to their home. The manufacturer chose really beautiful walnut veneer. I love the two way veneer look. Bravo, Angie on your choice of finish!
The first time I saw the hardware, I fell in love with it. I’m so happy you didn’t paint it black. The whole piece was restored to its natural beauty😊 Great job!!!! Thank you for share 🌸
I know Andrea was over the moon with this beautiful piece. What a labor of love for her and her grandparents. Now a wonderful family treasure. Your work is majestic.
I was 100% expecting y0u to spray paint the hardware in mat black. I totally understand leaving it be because those xere the original pulls and that adds a lot of value. I looks great!
I think it's so sad that so many families have to deal with similar "family issues," after the loss of their loved ones. I'm happy you were able to save ALL the furniture.
@@bluecurlygirl my Gosh you truly are talking some realness there on the “keeping it together” for family to actually behave decently with each other when Mama’s around to give you that sly comment or side eye if you will haha but not funny really just simply true and more often than not. My knee jerk reaction for hardware is always go matte black... but I think keeping the original was the right choice here. You and Andrea are a good team ❤
Keeping the drawer pulls silver was the right choice. The silver kind of makes a "statement," if you know what I mean. Odies oil makes such a beautiful finish. I'm currently working on refinishing my first dresser, and I will definitely use Odies.
Silver was probably the right choice for keeping it authentic, but maybe even antiqued gold or brass, just a little downplay so the wood is the show rather than the hardware. Black would have really showcased the wood grain but this one already has such stunning contrast that it isn't needed. Just me.
This is a beautiful piece. The real showstopper is that sectional oh how I would love to inherit such a beautiful piece of furniture. Amazing restoration as always!!
Hello to the makers of Odis’s Oil! You have a huge opportunity to have Angie be an influencer for you! She has 110 thousand subscribers! Beautiful work once again Angie!
Your decision not to stain and highlight the wood grain, perfect. Your work is chef's kiss! The piece is beautiful. I'm glad the family was able to overcome those challenges before this dresser was unsalvageable.
This piece is so BEAUTIFUL! The scrapping really looks satisfying! Exactly as you said... like a carpenter's tool! I adore the sides that have the feet built in ! So happy you saved it! I love the tone of the wood... I don't think you needed to stain it. This piece will continue living and it's so nice that you kept it. Thanks so much for sharing.
Every time I see your project is a piece like this I get so excited because I know it will turn out beautiful. This certainly did! I love the hardware in its natural state. Another great job, Angie!
OMG I am in love with that couch. What a statement piece, I am glad you were able to get these pieces and give them new life, especially because it has memories for your partner. I love things that have been passed down through families.
I'm in AWE! Best one yet. And love the hardware as is. Also love that you have rescued / honoured your partner's grandparents' beloved furniture in this restoration. So meaningful (and a joy to watch). Thank you!
Something similar happened when my great grandparents died. My grandmother talked about it often over the course of my childhood, so when she died my mother, brothers and sisters and I worked extremely hard to make the disposal of her property as cooperative as we possibly could. 💔
Odie's Oil is amazing stuff; it really makes the wood SING. 🎶 I'm on the fence about the hardware; my original thought was to spray-paint it gold, but the original silver is growing on me the more I look at it. Congratulations, Angie, on another fantastic restoration! I hope you will record video for us when you do the rest of the pieces.
Love that you know your trade and it shows! I’m impressed by the smart rodents who knew they wanted to live in the best! You did I great job and love the end result! Well done! Hugs ❤️👵🏻
As always , so much good information here ! Thanks so much for your advise and support ( on the one I messaged you about ) and the couch in y this video 😍😍😍♥️ very cool !
I actually really like the original hardware, because it's different from what we typically see. Thank you for showing me the acid treatment, I have a piece that this will probably work well on! I have been debating about a Surfprep and I think that I'm going to save up for one, after seeing this. Odies definetly needs to sponsor you!!! It would be a win/win!!! I'm glad you are saving this for your partner, it's comforting as all heck to have pieces from family in our homes. The couch is divine...
Another stunning piece! I do not like silver hardware so If it was my piece, would have painted them black but I love that you wanted to keep this family heirloom original. Great job! And I want your couch! Amazing
@@CharronMcLeod Oh yes! It's beyond splendid!!! ✨️ I saw it briefly and not only would it work with what I've inherited, but I also found 4 ways to take a nap on it...😀😴
Yep, family can make things difficult sometimes. But a awesome job on that dresser. It's truly a work of art. Great restoration!!! Something to be proud off and definitely a way to honor your significant other's grandparents.
That sad little piece of furniture can hold it's head up proudly again. It looks fabulous now. Probably better than new. That odies oil really gives timber a beautiful rich depth of colour.
What a gorgeous piece! As soon as you started scraping, I was swooning over that walnut veneer! You did a beautiful job - it’s just stunning. As for the hardware … I’m not sure! The silver is interesting, but I’m not sure how it would look in black. I wonder if it would look good in a brass tone? I’m not generally a fan of brass/gold tones, but it could work here. Ultimately it’s up to you! You could try painting one and if you don’t like it, remove the paint and go back to natural. Whatever you ultimately decide, I’m sure it will look amazing! Well done! (Side note, the sectional is so cool!)
They don’t do many sponsorships, though we have talked and they did offer it to me. I’m considering it but I still find it’s more authentic if I’m using the products because I genuinely want to use the products, instead of using the products because I’d paid to. I’ve been using Odie’s for years unsponsored so safe to say I love it, I just haven’t made up my mind yet on the sponsorship aspect. 🙂
Willy and Willow? How cute is that?! As usual, simply gorgeous piece, Angie! I appreciate how you honor the woods and original workmanship of these items.
I'm so in love with the sectional!!! The dresser turned out beautifully. I love that you were basically able to keep it all original and I love how the odies oil always brings out the beauty of the wood.
What a beautiful save! Love it! I think painting the hardware black would’ve been stunning but it’s always nice to leave things original too, especially a family heirloom. Oh, and that sectional is amazing! 😍
GORGEOUS, Angie. That wood grain is just stunning and love the unique hardware. When I looked at the before shot, I would’ve said definitely paint the hardware black. However, now that the piece is so beautifully restored, I like it silver. Can’t wait to see the other pieces and thank you for sharing this labor of love.💜
As for the hardware, I'm pro keeping them the same. It's not because I wouldn't like them spray painted. It's because I like the authenticity of the past. Sometimes the hardware is very worn and spray painting uplifts them, or replacing them is necessary. In this case the hardware just needed cleaning and there's something very special about keeping the piece as is in memory of the grandparents who left them behind. You can always spray them in the future if you find You and your Partner would like it better. It's a fabulous piece and it looks great. I too am happy you were able to get it out of a destructive environment and refinish it to it's glory. As always, Great Work!
Angie, this is another triumph, and a testament to saving family history! The instruction in the video about using a carbide scraper is very well done and valuable for those of us who have not yet tried scrapers. Speaking of wood planes, have you seen EJ Woodhouse Restorations' channel? He uses a hand plane to remove paint and stain from furniture. The items all appear to be solid wood and they are not large, but it is an interesting process to watch. I look forward to your weekly videos and can't wait to see what you do nest!
As always, a spectacular transformation. It's amazing how "just" a skillful refinishing turned this piece from a "meh" into an eye-popping beauty. Your disappearing tattoos made me laugh. 😄
Great restoration as always. That sectional couch brings back so many memories at friends' houses growing up. Would love to find a similar one. Perhaps in your next Odies oil adventure, weight the jar at the beginning and end of the project to give us a better perspective on how much you use.
I’m so glad you were able t save this gorgeous piece! I love how it tuned out as I think it totally goes with the retro couch!!!! I wish you had a class for people to take because your very knowledgeable and I learn something from you all the time. Thanks for everything 💜
It was funny that, earlier in the video, I wondered if you were going to mention situations where you had to be careful with veneer edge banding when using the scraper. As is often the case with questions I have during your videos, you DID cover that very type of situation. You are so complete and concise in your videos, but still manage to keep them a reasonable length. Not only are you so good with what you do with furniture, but you are also a very talented script writer and video editor. As for this very personal dresser project, you outdid yourself... it is gorgeous!
So glad this furniture was saved. You have done a beautiful job of bringing out the grain of the wood. The vertical green on the bottom really makes the piece as far as I am concerned. So glad you were able to save the sofa as well it is a wonderful piece and all of it has such wonderful family history with it. Love your site
My first thought is that has a lot of hardware and I can’t stand waiting on that part to be over, then I looked at them and I said I hope she keeps it original. You did and it is beautiful and it’s not just like everything that popular at the time. One main reason I look forward to your videos is because you think outside the box. Thank you.
I love how these pieces with a formerly one-tone look become a celebration of the veneers when you refinish them. So much more interesting and warm than their monotone and a little bland previous look! Gorgeous and wonderful treatment for an heirloom! Love keeping the handles their original finish as well.
This is a lovely job! You are fortunate that the grain was easily seen under the finish, so you at least had a clue as to the outcome might be. I stupidly tried to refinish a walnut veneered MCM sewing desk, with drop down mechanism that hides the sewing machine inside. I was so excited to buy it that I didn’t really LOOK at the piece…and after painstakingly stripping it landed up with a mess of very garishly tiger stripped walnut veneer with one of the three fronts having absolutely NO DEFINITION and a very flat, 2D presentation. I was so disappointed…it was tremendously ugly! I finally landed up keeping the top wood (staining it dark to hide the visual mess) and painting the bottom and drawers to match the other furniture in my sewing room. Lesson learned!!
I think leaving the hardware as-is is the right thing to do. That is how the grandparents originally purchased it, and leaving it the way it is, pays tribute to your partners family.
The dresser looks fabulous…I also love the sectional. I think black knobs would have made a great statement…. But it is antique it looks gorgeous! 👍🏼👍🏼❤️

I look forward to your weekly videos and can't wait to see what you do nest!
Beautiful results
As always, a spectacular transformation. It's amazing how "just" a skillful refinishing turned this piece from a "meh" into an eye-popping beauty.
Your disappearing tattoos made me laugh. 😄
Wow what a score! This is gorgeous!!!! Love the handles. I think either way would work; black or the original tone. Just stunning!
Thank you very much!! 😀
Great restoration as always. That sectional couch brings back so many memories at friends' houses growing up. Would love to find a similar one.
Perhaps in your next Odies oil adventure, weight the jar at the beginning and end of the project to give us a better perspective on how much you use.
Gorgeous. I love the quality of the 60’s!
I’m so glad you were able t save this gorgeous piece! I love how it tuned out as I think it totally goes with the retro couch!!!! I wish you had a class for people to take because your very knowledgeable and I learn something from you all the time. Thanks for everything 💜
You're very welcome!
Love, love, love the grain!! Since you asked, I'd like the knobs in black. Thanks for another great video.
You're very welcome!
You did a wonderful job on this piece,my dad was locked out of grannies house
Man, if that dresser could talk! I hit the jackpot with you giving it a make over!❤
This piece looks like new. What a gorgeous piece of furniture. You were both so lucky to get these family pieces. Congrats and enjoy!
