WHAT HAPPENED to this poor dresser?? Art Deco Dresser Makeover
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 4 окт 2024
- This Art Deco dresser looks like it was pulled along the ground upside down! The top was destroyed, deep gouges and scrapes, and areas where the gorgeous mahogany veneer was mangled right down the to substrate!
It was literally trashed; thankfully a contact of mine saved it and passed it along to me, and now it gets to live a happy second life!

So glad you did not paint this piece, finish is absolutely gorgeous.
I was thinking the same thing.
Same!
I enjoy your channel. You have a very pleasant voice and you always restore where possible unlike some other people who are too keen to paint a piece pink and cover it with sequins
As someone who would like to SOMEDAY start their furniture flipping journey, I can say that if I started with the 180 grit and still had scratches, my thinking would have been to get more aggressive and not less aggressive sand paper. Very much appreciate your wisdom and also very much enjoying your videos. Thanks for posting!
Yes, it’s a pretty common misconception! Unfortunately, it eats up the veneer way too fast- it’s a bit different on solid wood :-)
To think we almost lost this piece of art but along you came to the rescue. Thank you for that and the inspiration and knowhow you provided. So grateful.
It looks very classy now, you did a great job as usual. You should be a brand ambassador for Odies 😄
The wood whisperer works her magic!
I’m so glad you don’t try to make your pieces showroom perfect. I love the little imperfections that show the pieces have lived a life and have the scars to prove it ( don’t we all??). I hope to one day find a treasure beside the road and bring it back to life. You’re amazing, and my hero.
"( don’t we all??)" I said the same as she was telling us that. lol Who DOESN'T have a few along the way?
Lulu is a total internet star baby! So gorgeous. Hanging out with the art deco cabinet just shows her impeccable good taste!
Loving these videos.
Angie, you never cease to amaze me....wow! Can't believe what people throw out. It's crazy in my neighborhood. People are constantly throwing things out similar to this.....I'm already teaching my kids what to look for. Furniture today just isn't made like this. Can't get the same value for the money today.
Your the Pygmalion of furniture flippers ❤
You are the furniture whisperer. Another magical transformation of a trash bound piece into a bright and shining star.
Truly shocked to know someone abused such a gorgeous piece of furniture. It’s so incredible. I love how it came out!
Thank you so much!
By the time you're finished with a piece, it just glows! Who could have imagined that beat up old dresser could be a thing of beauty? Great job, as always.
Those drawer pulls are amazing, an Art Deco touch to a mid century piece, very clever and together they make a statement: "I'm one of a kind and I'm Beautiful!"
Beautiful save of a vintage dresser.
I haven't seen a cufflink tray since I was a kid, in my father's dresser back in the 1960's. Brought back fond memories.
Ever since I started watching these videos, I cannot help but notice all the old furniture sitting out for the dump! Amazing!
There's a lot of it isn't there?
You are an Inspiration! :)@@TranscendFurnitureGallery
What a transformation-well done !
I bought Odie’s oil because I love how it looks on your pieces. They should totally sponsor you.
She’s so happy you saved her. Beautiful
You’re one of the GOATS at this!!!
I am laughing so hard at myself right now! I was all in a huff and about to report this comment as unkind for calling a person a goat, and in all caps no less! Until I saw a very important person had actually "liked" it! I strained my brain and finally figured out it (probably) stood for "greatest of all times"! And that's absolutely true!! If I told my granddaughter about this, she would roll her eyes, shake her head and in complete exasperation say Nana!! I don't understand all the acronyms any more than I understand why someone would treat a piece of furniture so carelessly! But as long as you are the one to find it, I know it will be restored to it's former beauty! 😁👏💖
I had no idea what GOATS meant until I read the comment here. 😂
Hell Of A Miracle!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That really is a lovely piece. I can’t believe someone just threw it out. I love the little built in dish which I assume was for cufflinks or whatever.
I was thinking change.
I was thinking beer
My first thought was ash tray (it's from the 30s, after all lol), but then I came to my senses and realized it is probably earnings or, like you said, cufflinks.
Maybe even a pocket watch or ladies watch?
Yes they are cufflink trays.
Love how the tiny scratches add a little character!
Angie...everytime, you blow me away you are so talented. The best restorer on youtube by far.
You brought that poor baby back to life! Great job 👏🏽 as always!
I respect that you allowed the piece to shine while not trying to hide it's age/history/stories. I view as imperfectly perfect. Every ding and scratch was earned. She's a beauty!
I love that you restored it to its original look instead of painting it.
Another awesome transformation! Love the different grains on the drawers and the linear detail on the cup pulls.
Love how you transform a Dresser into a Treasure!!!!!!
I love that you can talk about the piece, the wood and the era. I also like that you try to keep as much wood as possible.
Thank you for not painting this beautiful piece! I've always been a fan of Art Deco. You did a wonderful job of returning the dignity to this piece of history.
That finish Wow!
I can’t imagine anybody throwing that piece out. Thank you for including your fur baby so cute.
Wow Angie! It turned out gorgeous! It was in horrible shape, but I knew you could do it! You are the Queen my dear!
Wow... that turned out beautifully. It actually ended up feeling like a contemporary piece, not vintage at all! I'd be honored to house that piece in my place. Great job!
🐼 Big Bear Hugs from a 68 yr old grandma in Kirby, Texas, USA 🐼 ❤️ 🎀 ❤️ 🎀
Kitty is so beautiful! So is the piece. 😊
Thank you rescuing this beauty from the landfill!! She deserves to live on!!
You do beautiful work!👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼✨
You're very welcome! 🙂
I’m so happy you restored this beauty to its original look. It’s absolutely beautiful! Great job! 👏💙
I love the way you brought out the existing patterns and beauty of the wood rather than covering it over with opaque materials. Well done!
Thanks for watching!
Beautiful piece! Thanks for keeping it as close to original as you could. The best is always the original wood luster showing through. You are quite the artist!!❤❤❤❤❤
And to think, this was retrieved from the trash! Amazing!
Wild isn't it? Thanks so much for watching!
Another STUNNING rescue and transformation. I'm not even shocked at what you accomplish anymore.
So happy you gave the ugly duckling a new lease in. Always look forward to seeing your latest vlog and you never disappoint. Thank you for sharing!
This is a really beautiful outcome for this piece! I love, love, love that you don't stress about making it perfect and are not afraid to let your watchers know that sometimes it just isn't possible. Your videos are always worth watching - multiple times. Cheers!
Makes me wonder how many didn't end up in good hands. Such a handsome piece. At the beginning I thought no way but you tricked me, awesome job.
I bought my first jar of Odies in August and am about 2/3 thru it. I love the smell, how great it makes the wood look, how it is non toxic and that I don’t have to take the time to do a poly coat on the wood. Well worth it and I sing it’s praises to everyone!
Beautifully restored!!! You are truly an Artist!!
I laughed first at "good foot", then at "straight curve". (Good foot was an old James Brown song).
I wish I still had my grandmother's furniture. It was like this piece; very well made.
I'm so glad you used Odie's Oil on it. It is perfect for this piece.
You are the Queen! Wow, this piece was in horrible shape and with your hard work, you transformed it into the piece it was. So so glad you didn’t paint it, but brought it back to its glory. Awesome job!
Awe, thank you!
Honestly, I don't think I'd want a piece like this to be perfect. With it's age came use, and you restored it with a realistic eye. This is so worth keeping for another 80 + years. Beautiful work.
Thank you so much! 🙂
Don’t let whoever put it in the trash see it now. They’ll want it back. Gorgeous.
Ode’s projects are by far my favorite 😍
The look is so beautiful and rich!
What a transformation. You are a whizz. Beautiful 👏👏👏
I cannot believe the transformation of this dresser! The TOP of the dresser is an unreal transformation! WOW
Such a classy piece; it's so good to find a furniture restorer who recognizes good furniture and doesn't just use chalk paint waay too liberally... good job!
I do a lot of full restorations but sometimes a bit of paint on lesser quality wood (and especially plastic laminate coated wood, or Formica) can keep something structurally sound from being tossed just because it’s a bit rough or dated cosmetically. But I like to restore certain woods whenever possible. 🙂
Wow! You do such great work on these pieces! Beautiful! 😁
For a vintage piece, this dresser looks very modern. Beautiful job restoring this vintage piece.
It's absolutely beautiful.
Absolutely well done, you have given that dresser a new lease of life, they last a life time, just love these old furniture, real wooden furniture, fantastic job love, 🏴🏴🏴🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
Phenomenal job saving this piece!!
I was already jealous of your knowledge, skill and artistry; but now I'm jealous of your beautiful cat!
You really brought that one back. It looked a little beyond saving, but shows what a lot of patience and skill can do. I really like that diagonal woodgrain that was on there. It makes it a real stand out, plus the original hardware. 🙂👍
I’m not quite sure how to tell you how much I enjoy your posts. You are so good at what you do and not afraid to say when you have made a mistake. I usually don’t like all the talking but your talking is valuable! Best I have seen and enjoyed!
Wow, thank you!
Another thoroughly impressive save! Your superiority to other "experts" on the tubes is most evident, as always. I'm sure you've seen atrocities, too, so I won't belabor them.
I love that someone just threw this out and you made it beautiful
Wow, what an incredible result. You put so much love and respect into this piece and it really shows.
Aghhhh I love it so much. Can you imagine tossing beautiful mahogany and antique pulls like that? Hell no!
Gorgeous! Another beautiful transformation Angie.
Wow! What satisfaction you must feel turning something discarded into such a Gem!!!
Beautiful! Natural wood tones, enhanced by the Odies with the original brass pulls shined up to new. Just a stunner 💙
I painted an older fridge with Dixie Belle paint, thanks to watching your videos. I wish I could share a pic but it turned out wonderfully! And I got to support a local business buying the paint, in the process. I love your videos. Thank you for sharing!!!
Personally, I really like the dings and scratches in the piece and am glad you didn’t try to hide them. Like you said, it gives the piece character. It is such a beautiful, beautiful dresser. That Odie’s really works so well. I can’t believe some fool threw it out
Thanks for the teaching on why you use the different grits of sandpaper.
Beautiful job, Angie! I love the deco details and the change cup in the drawer. The wood is really beautiful.🌸
Those drawers are GLOWING! We’ll done!
Esse Odie's Universal Oil é "Milagroso", super maravilhoso, quem dera tivesse aqui no Brasil algo no mínimo similar. A cômoda ficou fantástica ...adorei!!! Beijos do Rio de Janeiro.
I'm only 7 minutes in, but I just want to say that you are full of wonderful tips and advice.
This turned out amazing! Gives me hope for whenever I get around to refinishing my dresser set inherited from my grandparents. They have some water rings and lots of scratches from my grandpa being rough on them while he had Alzheimer's, but overall I think they can look fantastic again one day. ♥️
Can't stop watching this particular video of one of your amazing magic revivals. Thanks for all the knowledge you share with us.
That is such a cool piece and those handles are amazing. I can't believe someone would treat it so badly then send it into the landfill. The dish inside the drawer seems like it could be a very high end piece. No matter what, you made it look beautiful once again. Great Job!
Thats cool to hear someone other than man say they're excited about wood from the 30's 40's and 50's. love ur channel and love ur work.
So beautiful! It has a deco vibe. It is obvious that you love what you do.
Nova Scotia must have a lot of nice furniture because of Amy.
This piece is so beautiful, and deserves a second life! Job well done to you and your gorgeous supervisor!! Do you put anything on the brass hardware after cleaning away the tarnish?
Angie, you are the BEST at furniture rescue. This one has such beautiful bones and I'm glad you recognized that and restored her for her next life. I don't mind the little scars and dings, either. Someone is going to love and treasure this piece for years to come. Thank you.
WOW. This turned out stunning! Beautiful work as always. Is there an “appropriate” use for the Odie’s oil vs. wax vs. wood butter? I’m so curious how to know which is best for a project! I’m dying to try their products!
Good question. Plus, is the finish kept up with lemon oil or something, later, or not?
Odie’s Oil actually has an incredibly in-depth website with answers to just about any question you could have so for questions specific to Odie's I send people there - odiesoil.com/. Under the Cornwall Training School heading there is a TON of information.
It’s sooo wonderful to see you save this old furniture. My relatives had furniture similar to this when I was a child - makes me sad because I’m sure most of it is gone. You are an artist and a hero.
Thank you very much!
Angie that top is just stunning with the Odie’s oil. Watching the wood transform was really cool. Do you sell your pieces exclusively on FB Marketplace?
FB Marketplace and Instagram. instagram.com/transcendfurnituregallery/ Thank you so much for watching!
Beautiful! Vintage furniture always has character that tells a story. Never perfect but yet beautiful. 💜
Thank you so much!
That is an amazing transformation. When a piece has been finished with Oddies Oil, how do you recommend the piece be maintained? Obviously regular dusting, but should you deeper clean it once a year, and if so do you need to reapply the oil or use something else?
I would add to this: does it yellow over time and would it work on mcm walnut pieces?
Marvellous restoration. If the person who threw it in the trash knew it that with a little tender, love and care (and of course work expertise) such gem could be rescued !! What annoys me most is the disrespect that people have with furniture pieces - at least they could have maintained it over the years and not let it come to such a deplorable situation. Thanks a million for the rescue !!!
Some pieces get shoved into sheds or barns or attics, properties get sold and pieces get forgotten about. Its hard to take care of a piece if you don't even know it's there. The main thing I want to change is peoples first reaction being "Throw it away." These piece can be saved, redone and given new life.
I appreciate the respect you show these furniture pieces. They are beautiful.
Wow! Love the end result. So glad you showed off the different wood grains. It looks like an intentional upscale design. Very creative.
....you are living the dream!
Wow. What a wonderful rescue. It is beautiful.
If only you wasn't 3511 miles from me that item of furniture would definitely be in my house. Absolutely stunning x
So, so nice, Angie! Just love it! The Wood Gods are pleased!!
The grain in that timber is beautiful, you have done a tremendous job
Thank you for saving this beautiful piece. I love the fancy veneer furniture from the 30's. I bought a whole Waterfall bedroom set, including the vanity w/mirror, for $60 at a yard/eviction sale. I used it for a decade before refinishing it and passing it on to my granddaughter. I wish I had of used that oil instead of clear coating it. Live and learn.
Love that you kept some of the scratches, it shows the story of the piece 👌
Resurrected from the potential scrapheap. Lovely work. That oil certainly makes the piece glow.
From trash to treasure. Gorgeous 😍
