I’m not surprised that her husband nearly divorced her, to paint over that was criminal. It wasn’t even shabby chic, it was just shabby! You have rescued a fabulous piece of furniture, it’s a work of art. Thank you for saving this, someone put a lot of work and effort into making that and now with your work and effort, someone who has taste can appreciate it.
Exactly. There are times when paint is justified; I have seen a dreadful piece with peeling veneer and dog chewing damage rescued with some wood filler and paint and look OK. This was NOT one of those! There was nothing wrong with it, it's beautiful, and she did her best to make it look like some old crappy thing that's been on the side porch for years.
I really don't understand why someone would want to cover up such amazing workmanship and beauty with such ugly paint!!! Thank you for restoring it's beauty! Lovely work on the restoration!
Not only furniture. But when they wreak the interior woodwork of a house. Especially the older houses. Where in many cases, they used paint to cover up the Deity given beauty in the form of the grain of the wood.
Another phenomenal restoration. I love that you demonstrate how painted pieces can be returned to a more natural/neutral state. Good solid pieces are more valuable to me, for that reason. Thank you
If the talented carpenter who made this, sees your restoration, he would definitely send you hugs and kissess for saving this piece from the silly former owner who hid his talent behind an ugly layer of paint. Excellent restoration! 👏
This is a beautiful restoration. Your choices of colors and finishes were ideal. It now is a gorgeous and true-to-design piece that becomes a feature in any home. The "before" photos made me want to cry.
After 50+ years of restoring wood furniture, when I saw what was under that paint, I actually had tears in my eyes! People that Paint that kind of beautiful wood really are - well, I can think of several terms I could use, but I won't. And I agree with her husband, Dear God what an abomination she created! Thank you for saving that Beauty and sharing it's rebirth with us; Keep up the great work, saving Wood beauty for the future!
hahaha my bf saw the beginning where it said she wanted it to match the guest room and his response was "So her guest room had poo spots on the wall?" LOL GREAT job saving this piece!!
I see why her husband wanted to divorce her. That was so wrong on so many levels. Why would anyone want to paint a beautiful piece of furniture like that. SMH. This turned out amazing! Keep up the amazing work. I appreciate seeing your work. Thank you.
You did absolutely perfect. I'm with the lady below, with reference to a divorce. Keep up the great work, after watching this I have just subscribed. Thank you. Katie Anderson
I've never understood the desire to paint over beautiful wood. As to being OCD about the corners and carving, all I can say is "a person after my own heart!" Excellent job!
your channel is gaining momentum. We like you and all your family. Content! You totally made the right decision. A masterpiece such as this could take a laquer stain to make a change. Thank goodness you have brought it back and it's protected. Nice ASMR. Plus we love to hear you too. Don't be a stranger.😍
Hi Greg. I will speak when I feel the content warrants it. It seems from the comments from my viewers that they prefer the ASMR video. It is actually easier than narrating it. However, I have a DANCE STUDIO next door to my shop that plays music very loud so it is difficult to video tape sometimes for the ASMR with all that noise in the background! I plan my asmr shots around her classes. LOL!
Some people never understood Shabby Chic! What a freaking mess she made … and… you did all the right things ~ gorgeous ~ I’m in love w the restoration on this!
You got it right! I will never understand people who paint quality timber like this. A beautiful piece of furniture, restored the way it deserved to be. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I do not produce videos of every piece of furniture I refinish. Sometimes the wood is in poor shape so I do not produce a video (or do not complete it). I only do videos of those pieces I think my viewers would appreciate seeing the process and results.
Omg , that piece is beautiful. The wood work is amazing. I can’t believe someone painted over that . I do this type of work, but to cover that up is unbelievable
This was a beautiful job ,I do this kind of thing myself,I have never found anything so lovely underneath paint ,you made a fantastic job,and whoever painted it in the first place must have been mad.
WHen I saw the carving I hoped it had some nice wood grain. I could see by looking at the inside of the cabinet that it had high quality veneer. When ever I strip painted furniture I hold my breath until I finish stripping it because I am afraid they painted it to cover up some damaged wood that has been filled in with a lot of wood filler.
Me too!!!! I was shocked. When I stripped the doors and saw the burl I was even more shocked. I kept waiting for some big damaged area to be uncovered by the stripper! Surely you would only paint something so beautiful if the wood was too damaged?
So beautiful unstained. These style of pieces are so detailed but in my opinion they are always so dark and heavy looking. Never seen this style unstained before. Love it!! Great job!!
I totally am glad you left it natural. It was so pretty, what possessed that woman to paint over something so beautiful is beyond me. Awesome job restoring
100% you did the right thing in not staining it, it's such a beautiful stand alone piece, it's beautiful! Thank you for restoring it to its original state!
It's a fine line knowing the value of a nice piece of furniture and stopping yourself from chalking it. Not everything looks better painted. What a find!

Absolutely perfect !!! Why in the world would anyone want to paint over such a beautiful piece of furniture, I will never understand. You have brought it back to it’s former glory. Very well done.
my son watches the antiques roadshow and saw a piece just like that and it is worth a lot. it is absolutely beautiful piece and i am so glad you were able to restore it. it will add grace and warmth to any home.
Very cool! I will have to research the value. I do not believe it was an antique and I plan to give it to my son and his wife so I am not selling it. But good to know the value! Thanks for watching
I've been watching a bunch of furniture restore videos and this one is CLEARLY my favorite one BY FAR!!!!! No. Don't stain it. It's GORGEOUS as the restoration is!!
Love the wood,I can't believe they painted the wood, I can't stand when someone paints door and window frames either, especially, when the wood is beautiful.Excelent job.
Yes, I did "save it from it' misery" I think it was probably "embarrassed" to be looking like it did. Please give it a thumbs up. That helps my channel a LOT!
Beautiful restoration of a piece of furniture that had no business being painted and made to look "shabby chic". You gave it back its dignity and beauty. :-)
You did the right thing. I hope you kept it for yourself. You had a very loving touch while you were waxing it. You deserve to keep it for yourself. It is magnificent.
LOL! I sold it to a woman and when she came to pick it up she saw the chest I was working on. She also purchased the chest. In fact, she had me stain the chest to match this piece. She was lovely. It is always rewarding to have a client appreciate ( and love) my work. It is also rewarding to have viewers say nice things like you did :-)
This is awesome !!! Nothing else needs to be done to this piece, it is stunning !!! Stumbled across your channel and now binge watching your channel. Keep up the great work !!!

I can’t believe that anyone would paint over that. No wonder her husband was annoyed! You did a beautiful job bringing it back.
The wood grain on here is beautiful

Absolute perfection! Glad you did not stain. What crazy person paints furniture that is a work of art, thank you for saving it.🤗
I agree!
We need to form a Furniture Police Department for people who damage beautiful furniture. Love what you did with it.
Great idea!
Not only furniture. But when they wreak the interior woodwork of a house. Especially the older houses. Where in many cases, they used paint to cover up the Deity given beauty in the form of the grain of the wood.
😆😆
This is a triumphal restoration! It is shocking to know someone painted over all that beautiful wood grain. Thank you for the amazing video.

Seeing the wood underneath is one of the best parts of stripping paint.

Thank you very much!
Gorgeous piece! Thank you for rescuing it! Was there a factory label or date on it?
It's not a very old piece it's well made and designed but not old.
Not that I know of
I agree Chris I don't know how old it is but it is not vintage or antique. 20-30 years old at the most.
@@FurnitureFlippingForProfit, it looks like some of it is burled walnut?
