This song was written after the band’s original drummer and huge part of the band, Jimmy “the Rev” Sullivan passed away. It almost ended the band, but they finished the record they were working on (Nightmare) in his memory, then took a little break, and came back with a bit of a different style.
Been a fan for a long time and from my memory; Synyster Gates originally wrote this song for his grandfather who passed, but after the rev died this song (along with many songs on the nightmare album) was atleast in parts rewritten to be more about Jimmy.
They generally are a heavier band but they put this softer song together in tribute to their drummer that passed away in 2009 - he was one of the best drummers of our generation, if you listen to some more of their older songs you’ll hear just how talented he was
My older brother showed me this song the other day. He said “this is the song I’ll sing everyday if you ended up gone” aka me taking myself away. It hit me hard. Now this song gives me reminders to keep myself here. On this planet.
Yea.. u don't wanna do that to them man. Wish my little brother felt the same. This song used to hit me pretty hard too cause I had thoughts like u. But now it hits way harder after he left around this time last year. It's hard to deal with life sometimes but u don't wanna do that to ur family.. it sucks.. u don't wanna turn ur brother into me. Hope this helps. Stay strong bro✊️
R.I.P. REV. Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan was the band's original drummer who passed away on Dec. 28, 2009. This song was a tribute to his life and everything he meant to the ones that loved him the most. I always tear up a little bit after the break in the song because they start that part with the single acoustic guitar, and the melody just takes over. Everyone in the metal world that has heard A7X throughout their lives misses "The Rev" because he was an amazing drummer with a nice personality, and he was very creative with the way he wrote the drum parts and had his own hand in a few of the songs they wrote. Every time I watch this video, the same thing happens. I always get a little misty-eyed over seeing footage of "The Rev" when they go into that last section. The feels cannot be contained. Keep it metal. \m/
Like others said, this song was made in dedication to Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan. He was the drummer of the band until he passed away in 2009 from a drug overdose. He was an incredible drummer and he's dearly missed. RIP to The Rev
This was the most emotional and saddest song in rock/ heavy metal history. This song was written for their drummer Jimmy “Rev”Sullivan who pass to young. This was an hard song at the time and it still is. One of the best song they every wrote. M.shadow vocal are perfect and lyrics is deep and is saddening. One of the greatest song by them
Also, they have so many great songs. A few of my faves are Seize the Day, Bat Country, Nightmare, Second Heartbeat, Almost Easy, Critical Acclaim, Beast and the Harlot, Buried Alive, and they have so many more.
Definitely not their most popular one as its a tribute song to their drummer who passed. Check out "Nightmare" "Afterlife" or "A Little Piece of Heaven" for their most popular and usual style of music which is the more heavy sound you were probably expecting
these guys are one of the biggest influences on modern rock and metal music today. these guys are one of black veil brides' biggest inspiration (if not the biggest) cos you'll notice in avenged's heavier songs, theres a very obvious similarity in vocal ability, guitar and drum and bass as well. and since u like bvb, I highly recommend u checking out more of their songs. also, this isn't their main style if ur wondering their main style is a tad bit heavier but the older you go in their discography the heavier the music gets.
Once you re watch the vid and realise there isn’t a drummer present in the background even though you can hear drums in the song, it gets you in the feels.
I like the silent storytelling, you start with 5 kids, then you have 5 teens, then you have 4 adults. Even if you didn't know the story, they spell it out quite well.
I would probably check out Afterlife if you want the most popular song that is most representative of their actual style. This was more a tribute song than anything else.
If you've heard one of their songs, it's probably Bat Country or Nightmare. So Far Away always hits me in the feels.. so hard to listen to, but so beautiful as well
If you want a song with a similar vibe from Avenged Sevenfold it would be Seize The Day but a heavier song I think you’d enjoy the most would be Welcome To The Family
The music video hits harder for me, I have no idea why, I guess it just the flashbacks in it, and seeing matt, zack, and syn playing, and singing their hearts out.
Mike Portnoy (from Dream Theater) played drums on this 2010 Avenged Sevenfold album 'Nightmare'... the record was written in 2009 w/ founding drummer Jimmy 'The Rev' Sullivan. Tragically, he died from a prescription drug OD that year at age 28. Avenged Sevenfold decided to record the album in 2010, and enlisted one of The Rev's favorite drummers - Mike Portnoy. The 'Nightmare' album was their first to hit #1 on the US charts. Some of the heavier Avenged Sevenfold tracks - 'Nightmare' ... 'Welcome to the family' ... 'Bat country'... 'Almost easy'... 🤘🤘🔥🔥 U can hear the Iron Maiden influence in their songs. The band is: M. Shadows (vocals), Synyster Gates & Zacky Vengeance (guitars), Johnny Christ (bass)... After Sullivan's death, Arin Ilejay (drums) joined, but was replaced by Brooks Wackerman in 2016.
this song is in memory of a drummer from avenged sevenfold who died in 2009, actually there is another song, a little piece of heaven in memory of him.. because the song was written by a drummer (james owen sullivan) LORD OF THE DRUMMS! -A7X
M.I.A, Fiction, Warmness on the Soul (This one is one of the oldest), Strength of the World, Dear God... These are the songs I suggest you to listen. Unfortunately people always ask for the same 2-3 (A little piece of heaven, Save Me, Unholy Confession, Almost Easy....) even though A7X have other really beautiful songs.
Definitely recommend Bat Country, Nightmare, The stage, Afterlife full version, Hail to the king, Dear God You will love these guys by then Just don't watch A little piece of heaven before that ( it's masterpiece but definitely no watch before 4-5 songs )
hi ellierose i dont know if you all ready do or not it is about his friend that was the drummer of the band that had passed away and this song you are listening to is about him etc so if you didnt know now you do have a great day
I am pretty sure this song is a response to the song "Fiction" Which from what I understand is Rev's suicide note. I could be wrong. But a lot of the lines in this song reference "Fiction"
This was written after their drummer that passed Jimmy “The Rev” Sullivan. He passed at 28, so sad and basically broke the avenged sevenfold community. That’s why it’s a softer song. If you want heavy stuff from them, pretty much anything off of Walking The Fallen…I like remenissions
Like most people have pointed out this was about the rev when I seen them live in 2018 I think it was they played this and had videos of the rev on the screen behind them you can tell they don’t know how to deal with such a big loss now they have Brooke’s wackerman formally of bad religion on drums
I wish ppl would stop requesting this song first. Let the reactors learn the band. The history, the discography before the rev died and get them to love the band, the members and then hit them with these nightmare tracks.

I tought it was Synyster who wrote that song
It is SYN not matt
Been a fan for a long time and from my memory; Synyster Gates originally wrote this song for his grandfather who passed, but after the rev died this song (along with many songs on the nightmare album) was atleast in parts rewritten to be more about Jimmy.
😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
the style basically changed cause rev wrote most of the songs, and also cause matt voice changed a bit
They generally are a heavier band but they put this softer song together in tribute to their drummer that passed away in 2009 - he was one of the best drummers of our generation, if you listen to some more of their older songs you’ll hear just how talented he was
Some of their older songs are pretty soft. Warmness on the Soul for example.
My older brother showed me this song the other day. He said “this is the song I’ll sing everyday if you ended up gone” aka me taking myself away. It hit me hard. Now this song gives me reminders to keep myself here. On this planet.
Keep it up man!
Yea.. u don't wanna do that to them man. Wish my little brother felt the same. This song used to hit me pretty hard too cause I had thoughts like u. My wife, who introduced them to me 15 years ago.. is chillin with The Rev... Always a good song.
I feel sorry for you.
Oh so your wife died sorry for your loss
You totally would have cried if you'd known the context before watching. Gets me every time.
Exactly

“can u make your 🎸 cry😢”
synyster gates say : YES
(RIP) THE REV
Like others said, this song was made in dedication to Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan. He was the drummer of the band until he passed away in 2009 from a drug overdose. He was an incredible drummer and he's dearly missed. RIP to The Rev
Accidental overdose
It was an accidental overdose, he was taking his medication for his heart decease
@@ismabh it was purposeful.. What do you think the lyrics from Brompton cocktail are about lol

Btw, Avenged Sevenfold is usually heavier, but they are not afraid to take a softer approach to a song if that's what it calls for.
Man RIP Rev, this is my favorite Avenged Sevenfold song. It's incredibly sad but it is such a good song.
Shout out to one of the goat tier drummers in Mike Portnoy for stepping in to record Jimmy's parts.
This isn't really representative of their sound. It's a great song, but not typical A7X.
This was written as a tribute to their drummer who died
Also, they have so many great songs. A few of my faves are Seize the Day, Bat Country, Nightmare, Second Heartbeat, Almost Easy, Critical Acclaim, Beast and the Harlot, Buried Alive, and they have so many more.
Danger Line, Sidewinder, Trashed and Scattered, 4 am and Tension 🔥🔥
M.I.A., Seize the Day, and Warmness on the Soul are great too.
my favorite band of all time, theyre so goddamn talented (oh and btw thats literally theyre saddest song)
Definitely not their most popular one as its a tribute song to their drummer who passed. Check out "Nightmare" "Afterlife" or "A Little Piece of Heaven" for their most popular and usual style of music which is the more heavy sound you were probably expecting
Or Seize the day, bat country and almost easy.
And the studio version of The Beast and the Harlot. Doesn't the music video shorten that song?
imagine going from the sad emotion of So Far Away to the absolute WHAT THE FUCK of A Little Piece of Heaven. that would be hilarious
Anything off of Nightmare would be a good option, though I'm partial to 'Save Me', definitely my favorite track of all time
Really? Out of the songs you mentioned So Far Away has the most views on youtube
Normally avenged sevenfold is pretty heavy so this was a shock when it came out but everyone loved it (love how it sounds like the guitar is crying)🥲
This song was what got me into their music

As a HUGE metal/rock fan, I did not know how they influence Black Veil. Nice fact man i like that
This is softer than most of their songs, but still absolutely amazing.
This was absolutely A7x at their peak. Shadows had so much grit in his voice and their shows were electric.
Once you re watch the vid and realise there isn’t a drummer present in the background even though you can hear drums in the song, it gets you in the feels.
Great tribute song to an AMAZINGLY TALENTED drummer
I like the silent storytelling, you start with 5 kids, then you have 5 teens, then you have 4 adults. Even if you didn't know the story, they spell it out quite well.
If you want a crazy guitar solo I would recommend Afterlife, it's always a good time seeing people react to that solo.
I would probably check out Afterlife if you want the most popular song that is most representative of their actual style. This was more a tribute song than anything else.
This tribute song is also very popular in my country
Avenged is killer. The guitar is absurdly good.
This song is amazing! I could easily recommend Afterlife it’s definitely what got me into them as it was slightly heavy but not insane!
My daughter passed away and this song was the song I kept listening to when I was drinking was in a bad place but love avenged 7 fold
seize the day and a little piece of heaven !!!!!!!!
It's about the Rev RIP Jimmy one of my favorites drummers as a drummer myself I love his style of playing
“I am on my second drink” oh girl, we could tell😂😂😂 keep it up!
Old Avenged Sevenfold are amazing. The song Gunslinger 😍
For me I'd say you gotta listen to the stage by avenged sevenfold as that is amazing especially the guitar riff at the beginning
The music video hits harder for me, I have no idea why, I guess it just the flashbacks in it, and seeing matt, zack, and syn playing, and singing their hearts out.

This is a tribute to their late drummer.
I'd recommend checking out Afterlife by them.

Love me some sevenfold. I’m only 20. But I’ve been a fan since I was like 7.
I almost can't watch this music video without crying
RIP 'The Rev".

This song about there drummer who pass away years ago. I know feeling to this song having someone close in not here anymore
Ellie: this is so cute :)
Me: **crying like i do every god damn time i listen to this song**
It is one of there most popular songs. But deffenently their most mean full song. They use to make heavier music tho, especially in the beginning.
great reaction :)
A Little Piece of Heaven is one of Avenged Sevenfold's best songs
You should definitely. list to "hail to the king" and "Shepherd of fire" I love this song cause it reminds me of COD Bo2 Zombies
You should listen A Little Piece of Heaven, it's one of their masterpieces, or Save me, in my opinion, these are my favorites song of A7X
Jesus, ease her in a bit before Little Piece of Heaven lol
@@MathiasGmail86 I agree, it's amazing but probably a bit soon for that 🤣
Coming from a bartender, I say, 'that's the clearest Malibu and Lemonade I've ever seen.:
They are usually heavier, this is a song about the Rev, their original drummer, after he passed away.
Ur smile is cute❤️
Would like to see more A7X song reaction from u..
Miss you Rev😞😔
this song was about a band member that died at 28 years old
Avenged Sevenfold Live in LBC 🔥
I am pretty sure this song is a response to the song "Fiction" Which from what I understand is Rev's suicide note. I could be wrong. But a lot of the lines in this song reference "Fiction"

If you want to see the heavier side of the band I recommend listening to Afterlife or Hail to the King
Like most people have pointed out this was about the rev when I seen them live in 2018 I think it was they played this and had videos of the rev on the screen behind them you can tell they don’t know how to deal with such a big loss now they have Brooke’s wackerman formally of bad religion on drums
Cool tune
REV!!!🤘🏼🥁💀
You gotta check out "Afterlife" live from LBC what a gig!
if only u had known the reason why they were showing the Drummer so much was because the song was written for the departed drummer. RIP Rev.
for something heavier from them listen to "nightmare"
I wish ppl would stop requesting this song first. Let the reactors learn the band. The history, the discography before the rev died and get them to love the band, the members and then hit them with these nightmare tracks.
Second Heartbeat by Avenged Sevenfold
U should check "Fiction" its the last song that made by jimmy the rev 3 or 4 days before he died (if im not wrong) and the title was "Death"
Still pushin for more ADTR and B4MV…but also MORE A7X. Do “this means war”
PLEASE WATCH MORE! AFTERLIFE, BURIED ALIVE, BAT COUNTRY!
