"...what the players want." Funny they should ask, because I've had over a year now to think about that. And all I really want, is what they promised at that announcement so long ago.. "Before the Cataclysm." Well, stick to that exactly. Content wise, that is all the content through Wrath, in addition to the new Cata zones, but without the dragon, and so with Old Azeroth. Thing is, I don't want to wait 7 or 8 years to get what they promised. I want it all now, and it would be easy to stand the whole thing up at once. But before I can even get to that, there is an elephant in this room. The content of the expansions, in a practical sense, destroys all the prior content. They aren't really expansion packs as much as replacement packs. I don't want to see Classic ever replaced. As much as I want to see Outland and Northrend opened, and as badly as I want to queue for Tol Barad again, I wouldn't trade Classic for those. As long as we've waited and as hard as Blizzard has worked on this? No way. What then? Simple. Make those expansions part of Classic. So we have Classic, just much bigger. So the main thing we are talking about is a big squish, so that instead of an increasing curve in stats and power as you go up in level, there is a decreasing curve. For example the item stats of Ulduar gear are only somewhat, or even slightly, higher than AQ gear. Spread the hit tables out 60 and up, so that a raid geared 60 can hit a level 80 elite. He will still miss more than an 80, but the way it stands now, that 60 is completely trivialized. He cannot hit that 80 at all, or for 3 points of damage when the mob has millions of hp. What you would be doing is expanding the 60 classic content by 10 times is all. Now, sure that would be a job, and I can think of a couple of loose ends, but easily tied off. Nothing compared to how big this game would be. Far far bigger than just Classic. If someone thinks they have thought of a deal breaker with that rough outline of a plan, I assure you I have thought of if, and it is easily dealt with.
I started playing WoW during beta 2 I think? I have a character I created on November 23rd, 2004 that is still level 60 with the legacy unarmored epic mount. It's been a decade since I played any MMO but I'm back baby! Just resubbed and I can't wait. Huge props to blizzard for this. Hardcore, softcore, whatever. It's going to be fun ride again.
Agreed, Kev - I enjoyed TBC and WotLK, but the the ‘improvements’ of those games laid the groundwork for the death spiral of disinterest that has come since Cataclysm. Dumbing down the platform and character development, scaling, and LFG were all considered improvements back then until we blinked and realized this game is too easy... personally, I’d rather see zones added and subsequent expansions scaled to L60 and added incrementally as phases later than the free fall of subsequent expansions making gear and progression so moot down the road. With a dedicated content team, items could be scaled and encounters in places like Kara could be considered for progression - as it was originally considered - at L60. The community will determine that type of development as much as anything else.
@Scuttlefrog Jeah, first 40 man Kara release, with the need to farm alot of arcane resist gear before. Also don't make the new items too strong, only add some resist on them, so characters don't get too op in pvp and the open world. Also keep the lvl on 60.
ye, gold means a lot in wow vanilla economy, having blizz taking ppl to take the non grind way would just fuck up the joy of getting gold and its meaning, it means something in this game, not like in retail where the only thing u cna buy for it is shitty recoloured mount for 999k g

definitely would rather see new content for classic, i loved tbc but a lot of problems stemmed from there like flying. would love to see them do what jagex did for OSRS and just expand on the game and create something completely new
The question is... will they screw it up? Do you trust Blizz/Activision to not mess it up? I don't have that kind of faith, haha. However, it would be interesting. There is soooo much they can continue/build on. I don't have an issue with a TBC server, but it must be its own server-- let Classic continue as is.

so, you get classic, with the "help" of people who signed petitions and "fought" for classic because the new WoW is crap and now you're: "screw you TBC and WotLK people, i got what i wanted, now i don't need you anymore". you seem like a real piece of s..t irl that's for sure. i'm one of those who signed the petition and over 30 people (online and irl) that i asked did the same and i don't even like vanilla wow, but i saw that as an opportunity for blizzard to eventually release TBC and i guarantee that AT LEAST HALF the petitions were from players that would be more excited to play either TBC or WotLK than vanilla. this community has been a selfish disappointment ever since that petition was passed and blizzard announced classic. if you bring out the "the petition was for vanilla and not for tbc or wotlk hurr durr" - yes, because blizzard closed nostalrius, yet they did not do anything about TBC and WotLK servers, that's why the petition was strictly for vanilla as other servers are still up and running, but i would much rather play on blizzard's servers, retail, legit and non-p2w game than on any private server, yet these servers are still operational and just 4 of these big names in the private server community hold over 2 million players total, which is more than nostalrius and other vanilla servers combined had.
Honestly, I just want more VANILLA content, I don't want to have to deal with the compcheese fest that is arena in BC making PvP an "UBER 1337 E-SPORT" and relegating BGs to a backseat, I don't want wrath to bring the dungeon finder and make everything piss easy, I don't want Cata to ruin the open world and bring about LFR and so on. More VANILLA content, more things made with the developmental mindset of classic as opposed to reliving a series of cascading miss steps that fucked the game up completely and resulted in where we are now. As far as I'm concerned, everything post was one mistake rolling into another.
Well Arenas are cool and should come with classic+ content, but I agree that they shouldn't be the one and only way to get the good PvP gear and making all other forms of PVP obsolete.
At this point I don't trust blizzard to add new content to classic. Even little changes that aren't implemented correctly would screw up the entire meta that vanilla created. If they must do this, they need to do it under a separate set of servers from classic.
@@omarali262 I still hope they will take a different direction, taking good stuff from the Expansions but making Classic+ content out of it. Keep Players on the ground, keeping the content more in Azeroth, don't destroy everything people have built over the years in a few levels and so on and keep the factions unique (Paladin/Shaman).
At the end of the day, everybody has their niche. Some prefer TBC, others, Classic or WOTLK. Personally, I prefer the classic experience overall. I would however like to see blizzard expand on this classic idea. That is to say, they make expansion specific servers depending on customer interest. If there isn't enough interest to warrant having at least a few servers, they shouldn't bother with it. So again, I think it would be a good idea to test the waters, do some market research, determine which expansions have the most interest, and go from there.
Complete agreement. Whether we have a choice to play Classic or some expansion. Make a server with Classic, server with TBC, server with Wotlk etc ... it would be great

I am 99,99% sure that there will be no store put in. That would go against every single thing they have said since the annoucement and it will kill Classic for them. So far they have been good as gold towards what has been said about Classic and I am sure they will keep being true to this release.
Imagine a world where you can cap out on Vanilla and what it may have become, then saying to a friend....... "I think I want to grind on my TBC/LK profile for a bit." My classic experience will not be complete until I take the day off of work to play WoW, prepare food and drinks the night before... and spend the whole day waiting for servers to come back up. Ah the good ol' days.

same here. the majority of this classic community has been a colossal disappointment about how selfish and egocentric they are. classic became a thing because of TBC and WotLK playerbase too. i know from my perspective of how many people i actually asked and begged to sign the petition just because i saw the opportunity for TBC and WotLK. it was meant to be a trilogy anyway, yet these people once they get what they want, they turn their back to everything and everyone that actually supported them and their idea. quite sad actually, but it's the reality we live in. hard to find someone nowadays that cares for someone or something else other than themselves.

I can enjoy playing the same game and doing the same things (for example, Monopoly) because of the friends and family I play it with. The game does not have to change at all for me to enjoy it with other people. There is a lot to do in WoW classic with other people. A lot more than there is the popular game Monopoly. Because other people get bored does not mean I have to get bored. Some people read the same books, watch the same TV shows, and listen to the same music all of their lives and manage to find more to them worth enjoying. A persistent Classic Wow will always have an audience as has already been proved by the private servers. It seems Blizzard is finally understanding that an MMO can stop and stay at a certain level to be enjoyed at that level. If others cannot comprehend this due to some need for constant external stimulation or new experiences, then there are plenty of games attempting to keep them interested. Do it your own way. Just don't try to force us to do it your way too or to insist that your needs are the only needs or ways to enjoy an MMO. People are different.

they did have alot of plans that never got finished in vanilla and i hope that they make those into new content when the last phase has rolled out like making classic an alternate reality
I'm willing to bet that if WoW Classic reaches a player base of lets say 1 million maybe 2 million. They will add more content eventually, in the old school vein. They would be foolish not to. Heck imagine a The Burning Crusade where the level cap is never reached. That is the first big mistake WoW made, it should never, i repeat NEVER have increased the level cap, because that makes all other content outdated, which is bad design.

There will be queue times because there probably will be asshats DDoS or hacking Blizzard at launch because they just whant to se the world burn. A Blizzard launch of Classic is simply too big for hackers to ignore.
It's nearly unbelievable how hyped I am. And it's not just me. Oldschoolgamer friends just want this game back. And what's coming after Phase 6? For me it's 1.14. Not the best expansion as next. Doing another patch, staying at lvl60, continuing the Classic stuff. Until WoW2 will follow. Because for me Classic is also a good sandbox for the next generation of WoW. I'm so excited for Classic, really. My best gaming moments were Ambermoon @late Amiga times, GTA3/Vice City, HL2, Unreal Tournament, all the c&c stuff and the early days of WoW. Waiting for WoW is like waiting for GTA6. You know it will be great. So fucking great.
To be honest, I don't understand why they did not just leave servers for each expansion when the new one started. That would have kept way more people playing the game and would have given the player base waaaay more possibilities to enjoy all of WOW over multiple years instead of forcing them to play (at least subjectively) inferior expansions.

That's good news about layering. The only fear I still have is that Classic will be way bigger than they realize even several months after release. What happens when they have a server with like average 6-9k people online thanks to layering and then the server cap is reduced since layering is removed? Are they going to just let those thousands of people sit in server queues ? I think it's not far fetched to see them keeping layering in situations like that which could be pretty bad for Classic long term. I hope it just stays around for 2-3 weeks like they said.
If they bring out TBC after classic I hope it's completely optionel. Like you have to migrate to the expansion servers. That way people that still just want to play classic can still play classic.

I think you are right, they will have a gang so will want to be on a pvp server to make themselves look good despite having heals and others sacrifice for them. They might also not meet the requirements for RP. This makes a RP PvE is the best choice. PvP is a drag anyway because it is mainly about gangking. I have tried both and there is more world PVP on PvE servers because that is how you get PvP on PvE servers other than battlegrounds. I like world pvp. I do not like ganking. I will roll PvE and RP. RP also helps with having less stupid world chat.

I have point out a few things. First, the classic wow beta and other beta's like BFA are completely different. Classic is a game people haven't gotten to play in almost 15 years, and I mean that. Private servers are NOT classic. In many ways this was the first return to classic and it makes sense players want to try a bit of everything. A lot of testers seem to be private server players and they got to see how far off those private servers were from the real thing so it makes sense they would want to spend more time on it as well. BfA Beta which I was in was crap from the start. A few class/specs got complete overhauls, but the majority got nothing they only lost. Testing on BfA's beta was one of the HARDEST beta tests I have even struggled through because everything played like shit and blizzards whole thing was, "Azerite armor fixes it." Well guess what, Azerite armor didn't hit the beta until 2 months before launch and it didn't fix anything. That means for the majority of us we were playing a beta with broken classes that testing was pointless because it was all suppose to be balanced around an armor we didn't get for 4 months. Comparing the classic beta to BfA's is like comparing pizza to burgers.

I strongly believe that Blizzard will go to the community with thorough discussion about what we want next-be ready for that, and ensure you are part of that discussion. Just remember that phase 6 is probably at least a year away, if not 18-24 months away. Plenty of time for them to observe how we respond to Classic, and plenty of time to strategise how the community will determine next steps. RuneScape uses a polling system, where additional content requires a 75% positive vote rate to implement. Blizzard may well do something similar.

if it will be done, it will be done that way. classic will remain as it is and TBC will start anew. about these "highly intelligent" people claiming it would split the population, i wouldn't even consider playing classic if it was ONLY vanilla and if blizzard said it will be ONLY be for vanilla, without any chance of TBC. that said, there are enough of players that are interested in all 3 of the WoW versions and servers will be full (populated enough). i know for sure i will not be playing for longer than naxx release, as the game from that point starts to degrade quite significantly topped with me not really liking vanilla (to put it mildly), so might as well give us the TBC realm

I want tbc itemization + talents for up to lvl60. I dont want battlegrounds, I want proper reasons and desires to go out and explore the world and encourage people to interact. Getting into worldpvp together and strategically band and attack/defend is so much more fun than 'queue up for WSG.. ow its an organized team... just afk to get honor quick... or oh its organized team, this gonna be a 2hr WSG game..' Wow to me had that great experience where you meet people and go out to explore the world together. Thats what made the game great.
I reason that Blizzard should build a new game from Classic, and not add old expansions because that would deflate the whole purpose and drive of Classic: experiencing a time when WoW was great. Building on top of Classic would usher in a new era of gaming philosophy and ultimately be a better experience in the long haul.
I really would like TBC and wrath expansions eventually but I think they should probably make separate servers for that, not the vanilla servers. Or specific progression servers, like Everquest did.
Anybody else think it would be really cool if instead of redoing burning crusade blizz developed new content with all those fun unreleased zones of original wow that were so mysterious and exciting back in the day? Caverns of time, mount hyjal, grim batol, etc
In terms of new content post the 6 phases, I would like to see them continue with expansions but keep the vanilla experience alive. They MUST remember that there is a big difference between QOL and easy mode - something they blurred terribly in the retail version over the years. Then again... there is a little devil inside of me that thinks it might be very cool for Classic to be an "alternate reality" to the retail version and really do a whole different story line......
Seems like Blizz is using classic to test new hardware. This could mean that the next expansion will utilize layering. I'm excited that classic is a testing bed. It means Blizz is investing in it for the long run of the franchise.
I would love additional updates for classic. Without a big itemlevel increase or a higher max level, just to have a bit more to do. After Naxx is a item farm on many servers ofc.
The game died for me when Cataclysm came out and Wrath ended. Wrath was the pinnacle of WoW. Classic and TBC were also very well done. Moment their next major launch was little more than a reskin of the existing world, it all felt lazy and sloppy. QoL additions kept rolling in faster and faster, catering to the whiners on the forums didn't stop and the game just became less and less about community and challenge. Did I like waiting 30-60 mins sometimes for queues depending on my class preference? No. But not at the cost of what followed
most people that still played the beta just needed streaming content. they just wanted to monetize the experience like everyone and everything these days.

Wow classic expansion rollout should alternate with live. We got BFA in 2018, Classic in 2019, I would love to see 9.0 in 2020, Classic 2.0 in 2021, and so on. However, this is where I diverge... I want all the classic content and expansions, but with all the community killing features removed. Never Institute LFD or LFR. I think the rest of the creatcher comforts are fine, but nothing that makes us anonymous in groups or takes away from server community.
I've heard you now float the idea a few times that Blizz might develop fresh new content for WoW: Classic. I've just gotta say that I don't think anything like that is gonna happen. More-over, I think that would actually be a poor decision for them to make. If they have the resources and manpower to devote to brand new WoW content, it would make the most sense to put that all into Retail (9.0, 10.0, etc.). I'd be more than happy with them eventually having some other Legacy servers set at BC or Wrath expansions and allow us to relive more old content, and keep their design focus on brand new expansions that reincorporate the great things from Vanilla that made us all fall in love with this franchise. Or better yet: a brand new IP (doesn't even have to be by Blizzard) that revives the magic of Vanilla WoW; the exploration, the sense of achievement, and most importantly the community.
Pesticus Veno I agree. I believe retail is too far gone to incorporate “Vanilla” principles at this point. I do believe there are some other companies with a keen eye on Classic’s success.
First off there is a few ways in my opinion they could approach make servers that restart after X amount of time, have a server that patches 1.13, do nothing after expansion, expand TBC classic. The worst thing they could do IMHO is the last 2, because people were craving classic even in the WotLK days and WoW didn't do so good after that so if they keep up with how fast they did expansions they game would be over in 4 years. Leaving it alone would probably make classic have a longer life because you would have people doing things in the game or joining other server doing things you don't normally do. If your wonder why these two are the worst options, its because most of the population are casual people and they will have a chance at Naxx and AQ40 a small % were hardcore raiders that earned the right to be there. So if they push the expansions like players are hardcore raiders again the result will be the same. The crying will return and so will the outcry. People will want to go back to private servers to play classic wow if they put TBC classic and WotLK classic.
Really dont want to see more legacy servers. I feel like that is just getting on the bus riding back into the ruin that has become retail WoW. I would much rather see new content developed for classic without adding levels to the game.
and that what you said is actually getting on a bus instead, as that part of content would be developed by the team that still works on BFA and retail in general, while TBC and WotLK were developed by the original team that actually cared about the game and these 3 games are a part of trilogy. not quadrilogy, trilogy. the story of arthas ends with WotLK (from warcarft 3).

TBC damage was actually exactly the same as vanilla damage, they only got rid of one shotting by adding higher healthpool and resilience and that's a good thing - so in reality, if you bash TBC damage and healthpool, you're really only bashing the classic one's. portals were a thing in vanilla as well, while flying was bad - no denying, but the sub numbers actually tell a different story. instead of stagnating or declining, sub numbers were increasing all the way until the WotLK, where the actual peak was - the record amount of players. cata was a disappointment and you can see the number of subs declining, not as fast as players (like myself) hoped the game would get better. past that, you can see it declines even further at a much higher pace. so, that "downfall" as you call it had several times more subs than the actual good game then. if only all "downfalls" were like that.
@@LikeVenom18 TBC was my favorite expansion. I still dont want to recreate legacy servers for every single xpac regardless of how "successful" they were. "Old Town Road" by lil nas X has broken multiple history making song records. Does that make it the best? Absolutely not. Numbers aren't everything.
@@kyleswarts6660 it was a part of trilogy that ended with WotLK. inform yourself about how WoW was actually made and what the original story for it is. it followed warcraft 3, but in greater detail. vanilla was only the beginning and cata was garbage and had nothing to do with the actual story. it is a trilogy. there are more people interested into TBC and WotLK than they are in the actual vanilla. if blizzard magically opened all 3 of them at the same time, numbers would've proved it. over 2 million players are playing on only 4 of the TBC/WotLK mega servers. definitely shows how "unsuccessful" these expansions were.
I just don't see where there would be room to do additional Classic WoW content. Naxx gear breaks the game already and this time, more than a few people will get to experience that problem.
Just make a new raid without item creep. Most items that could drop could only have +arcane resist as an example, but a bit lower stats then t3. Then you would need that gear for the new raid, lets say kara, but overall people wouldn't rly get stronger.
I know that feel. I'm on one of the private servers that will cease to exist in a few weeks, and it's still somewhat alive. Ran Uldaman yesterday, Maraudon the day before.
I wish they would release the specifications. All I have is a crappy laptop that I would like to play on. No idea if it will run classic. I can run a private server with no issues. Everytime I ask in a forum if my laptop can run it I get "just buy a new pc". If my laptop cant run classic I'll probably just stay on a private server.

This is great! But I am heartilly looking forward to the Shaman Deep Dive. I have mained a Shaman since TBC, and now I can get the chance to play it in Classic as well!
I think what would be cool is after the six phases (maybe six months after) they open new fresh servers with the intent of adding new content that was originally planned in the Vanilla days. Thinks like, Vanilla Karazhan and I think there was another raid they were planning on doing for Vanilla before it got the ax when TBC launched. Might be pretty interesting to see happen.
As a casual gamer, it will be hard to be on par with everyone, but I have never played classic so I would like to experience what veteran wow players did. I already have everything I want but the servers I want to be on. Whether its a PVP or PVE server because I’m not that much of a hardcore gamer as I was like 5-7 years younger. Need some help to make my mind up. Any suggestions?
Probably pvp, unless you have 0% interest in large scale world pvp battles or small skirmishes. Obviously no one likes being ganked but its something everyone puts up with for the pvp experience
brainer3 right, well I don’t want to miss any excitement so PvP it is! I plan on making an alt the same day I make my main. So that way if I’m being camped then I could just level my alt when they do it.
The ganking sucks all joy out of the game for me. When I'm level 30 and two alliance level 60's are camping out the entire zone I'm questing in, I spend the entire time looking over my shoulder or corpse running. I suggest that you level up on a pve server first. You can still pve, just not at all times.
D Armstrong yeah that’s the only bad thing about it. I did put pvp in retail and still kept getting ganked. I still have about 25 days left so thanks for the suggestion.
I think the future is to add more content to vanilla, in a way like Old Runescape is doing. Add new content but without making the old content easy, trying to keep it balanced. Some kind of new spin off story or events in the classic era, or the inevitable classic TBC. But i think going like old school runescape is what they should do, adding new content in the classic era and then lauch a new TBC server paralele to classic wow in the future.
@blizzard incase you are reading, I am playing classic with the hope TBC comes next. If there is a second "season" of classic like diablo 3 before TBC that is fine in my opinion. When you released the classic video launch at blizzcon with the gnomish discombobulator, you said something like "they said we couldnt go home, but they were wrong.." Home for me is Outlands! And my holidays was WOTLK but I always return home to TBC!!

"Before the Cataclysm." Well, stick to that exactly. Content wise, that is all the content through Wrath, in addition to the new Cata zones, but without the dragon, and so with Old Azeroth.
Thing is, I don't want to wait 7 or 8 years to get what they promised. I want it all now, and it would be easy to stand the whole thing up at once.
But before I can even get to that, there is an elephant in this room. The content of the expansions, in a practical sense, destroys all the prior content. They aren't really expansion packs as much as replacement packs.
I don't want to see Classic ever replaced. As much as I want to see Outland and Northrend opened, and as badly as I want to queue for Tol Barad again, I wouldn't trade Classic for those. As long as we've waited and as hard as Blizzard has worked on this? No way. What then? Simple. Make those expansions part of Classic. So we have Classic, just much bigger.
So the main thing we are talking about is a big squish, so that instead of an increasing curve in stats and power as you go up in level, there is a decreasing curve. For example the item stats of Ulduar gear are only somewhat, or even slightly, higher than AQ gear. Spread the hit tables out 60 and up, so that a raid geared 60 can hit a level 80 elite. He will still miss more than an 80, but the way it stands now, that 60 is completely trivialized. He cannot hit that 80 at all, or for 3 points of damage when the mob has millions of hp.
What you would be doing is expanding the 60 classic content by 10 times is all. Now, sure that would be a job, and I can think of a couple of loose ends, but easily tied off. Nothing compared to how big this game would be. Far far bigger than just Classic.
If someone thinks they have thought of a deal breaker with that rough outline of a plan, I assure you I have thought of if, and it is easily dealt with.

I started playing WoW during beta 2 I think? I have a character I created on November 23rd, 2004 that is still level 60 with the legacy unarmored epic mount. It's been a decade since I played any MMO but I'm back baby! Just resubbed and I can't wait. Huge props to blizzard for this. Hardcore, softcore, whatever. It's going to be fun ride again.

Agreed, Kev - I enjoyed TBC and WotLK, but the the ‘improvements’ of those games laid the groundwork for the death spiral of disinterest that has come since Cataclysm. Dumbing down the platform and character development, scaling, and LFG were all considered improvements back then until we blinked and realized this game is too easy... personally, I’d rather see zones added and subsequent expansions scaled to L60 and added incrementally as phases later than the free fall of subsequent expansions making gear and progression so moot down the road. With a dedicated content team, items could be scaled and encounters in places like Kara could be considered for progression - as it was originally considered - at L60. The community will determine that type of development as much as anything else.
@Scuttlefrog Jeah, first 40 man Kara release, with the need to farm alot of arcane resist gear before. Also don't make the new items too strong, only add some resist on them, so characters don't get too op in pvp and the open world. Also keep the lvl on 60.

The question is... will they screw it up? Do you trust Blizz/Activision to not mess it up? I don't have that kind of faith, haha. However, it would be interesting. There is soooo much they can continue/build on. I don't have an issue with a TBC server, but it must be its own server-- let Classic continue as is.

so, you get classic, with the "help" of people who signed petitions and "fought" for classic because the new WoW is crap and now you're: "screw you TBC and WotLK people, i got what i wanted, now i don't need you anymore". you seem like a real piece of s..t irl that's for sure. i'm one of those who signed the petition and over 30 people (online and irl) that i asked did the same and i don't even like vanilla wow, but i saw that as an opportunity for blizzard to eventually release TBC and i guarantee that AT LEAST HALF the petitions were from players that would be more excited to play either TBC or WotLK than vanilla. this community has been a selfish disappointment ever since that petition was passed and blizzard announced classic. if you bring out the "the petition was for vanilla and not for tbc or wotlk hurr durr" - yes, because blizzard closed nostalrius, yet they did not do anything about TBC and WotLK servers, that's why the petition was strictly for vanilla as other servers are still up and running, but i would much rather play on blizzard's servers, retail, legit and non-p2w game than on any private server, yet these servers are still operational and just 4 of these big names in the private server community hold over 2 million players total, which is more than nostalrius and other vanilla servers combined had.

Honestly, I just want more VANILLA content, I don't want to have to deal with the compcheese fest that is arena in BC making PvP an "UBER 1337 E-SPORT" and relegating BGs to a backseat, I don't want wrath to bring the dungeon finder and make everything piss easy, I don't want Cata to ruin the open world and bring about LFR and so on.
More VANILLA content, more things made with the developmental mindset of classic as opposed to reliving a series of cascading miss steps that fucked the game up completely and resulted in where we are now.
As far as I'm concerned, everything post was one mistake rolling into another.
Well Arenas are cool and should come with classic+ content, but I agree that they shouldn't be the one and only way to get the good PvP gear and making all other forms of PVP obsolete.

At this point I don't trust blizzard to add new content to classic. Even little changes that aren't implemented correctly would screw up the entire meta that vanilla created. If they must do this, they need to do it under a separate set of servers from classic.

@@omarali262 I still hope they will take a different direction, taking good stuff from the Expansions but making Classic+ content out of it. Keep Players on the ground, keeping the content more in Azeroth, don't destroy everything people have built over the years in a few levels and so on and keep the factions unique (Paladin/Shaman).

At the end of the day, everybody has their niche. Some prefer TBC, others, Classic or WOTLK. Personally, I prefer the classic experience overall.
I would however like to see blizzard expand on this classic idea. That is to say, they make expansion specific servers depending on customer interest. If there isn't enough interest to warrant having at least a few servers, they shouldn't bother with it. So again, I think it would be a good idea to test the waters, do some market research, determine which expansions have the most interest, and go from there.

I am 99,99% sure that there will be no store put in. That would go against every single thing they have said since the annoucement and it will kill Classic for them. So far they have been good as gold towards what has been said about Classic and I am sure they will keep being true to this release.
Imagine a world where you can cap out on Vanilla and what it may have become, then saying to a friend....... "I think I want to grind on my TBC/LK profile for a bit." Then you both hop over and crush some content, on the same account! Blizz can milk my $15/month easy in that setup. Insurance for those greedy shareholders (Shudders in Activision)

same here. the majority of this classic community has been a colossal disappointment about how selfish and egocentric they are. classic became a thing because of TBC and WotLK playerbase too. i know from my perspective of how many people i actually asked and begged to sign the petition just because i saw the opportunity for TBC and WotLK. it was meant to be a trilogy anyway, yet these people once they get what they want, they turn their back to everything and everyone that actually supported them and their idea. quite sad actually, but it's the reality we live in. hard to find someone nowadays that cares for someone or something else other than themselves.

I can enjoy playing the same game and doing the same things (for example, Monopoly) because of the friends and family I play it with. The game does not have to change at all for me to enjoy it with other people. There is a lot to do in WoW classic with other people. A lot more than there is the popular game Monopoly. Because other people get bored does not mean I have to get bored. Some people read the same books, watch the same TV shows, and listen to the same music all of their lives and manage to find more to them worth enjoying. A persistent Classic Wow will always have an audience as has already been proved by the private servers. It seems Blizzard is finally understanding that an MMO can stop and stay at a certain level to be enjoyed at that level. If others cannot comprehend this due to some need for constant external stimulation or new experiences, then there are plenty of games attempting to keep them interested. Do it your own way. Just don't try to force us to do it your way too or to insist that your needs are the only needs or ways to enjoy an MMO. People are different.
you're an idiot. if they open up TBC, it will be on a BRAND NEW SERVER, SEPARATELY FROM VANILLA. the stated it multiple times that vnailla will stay the same forever and ever and no matter what, it will stay on battlenet client. they did have alot of plans that never got finished in vanilla and i hope that they make those into new content when the last phase has rolled out like making classic an alternate reality
I'm willing to bet that if WoW Classic reaches a player base of lets say 1 million maybe 2 million. They will add more content eventually, in the old school vein. They would be foolish not to. Heck imagine a The Burning Crusade where the level cap is never reached. That is the first big mistake WoW made, it should never, i repeat NEVER have increased the level cap, because that makes all other content outdated, which is bad design.
after a year or two they should make someone from BFA go back in time and kill someone that alters the future so they make expansions for vanilla that are brand new...MIND BLOWN!!!!!

There will be queue times because there probably will be asshats DDoS or hacking Blizzard at launch because they just whant to se the world burn. A Blizzard launch of Classic is simply too big for hackers to ignore.

It's nearly unbelievable how hyped I am. And it's not just me. Oldschoolgamer friends just want this game back. And what's coming after Phase 6? For me it's 1.14. Not the best expansion as next. Doing another patch, staying at lvl60, continuing the Classic stuff. Until WoW2 will follow. Because for me Classic is also a good sandbox for the next generation of WoW. I'm so excited for Classic, really. My best gaming moments were Ambermoon @late Amiga times, GTA3/Vice City, HL2, Unreal Tournament, all the c&c stuff and the early days of WoW. Waiting for WoW is like waiting for GTA6. You know it will be great. So fucking great.
To be honest, I don't understand why they did not just leave servers for each expansion when the new one started. That would have kept way more people playing the game and would have given the player base waaaay more possibilities to enjoy all of WOW over multiple years instead of forcing them to play (at least subjectively) inferior expansions.

That's good news about layering. The only fear I still have is that Classic will be way bigger than they realize even several months after release. What happens when they have a server with like average 6-9k people online thanks to layering and then the server cap is reduced since layering is removed? Are they going to just let those thousands of people sit in server queues ? I think it's not far fetched to see them keeping layering in situations like that which could be pretty bad for Classic long term. I hope it just stays around for 2-3 weeks like they said.

If they bring out TBC after classic I hope it's completely optionel. Like you have to migrate to the expansion servers. That way people that still just want to play classic can still play classic.

I think you are right, they will have a gang so will want to be on a pvp server to make themselves look good despite having heals and others sacrifice for them. They might also not meet the requirements for RP. This makes a RP PvE is the best choice. PvP is a drag anyway because it is mainly about gangking. I have tried both and there is more world PVP on PvE servers because that is how you get PvP on PvE servers other than battlegrounds. I like world pvp. I do not like ganking. I will roll PvE and RP. RP also helps with having less stupid world chat.

I loved vanilla and I loved wrath of the lich king but my very favorite was the burning crusade by far I loved that expansion so much!!!
if wow classic is a big hit, blizzard should fire the whole current retail team.
I have point out a few things. First, the classic wow beta and other beta's like BFA are completely different. Classic is a game people haven't gotten to play in almost 15 years, and I mean that. Private servers are NOT classic. In many ways this was the first return to classic and it makes sense players want to try a bit of everything. A lot of testers seem to be private server players and they got to see how far off those private servers were from the real thing so it makes sense they would want to spend more time on it as well. BfA Beta which I was in was crap from the start. A few class/specs got complete overhauls, but the majority got nothing they only lost. Testing on BfA's beta was one of the HARDEST beta tests I have even struggled through because everything played like shit and blizzards whole thing was, "Azerite armor fixes it." Well guess what, Azerite armor didn't hit the beta until 2 months before launch and it didn't fix anything. That means for the majority of us we were playing a beta with broken classes that testing was pointless because it was all suppose to be balanced around an armor we didn't get for 4 months. Comparing the classic beta to BfA's is like comparing pizza to burgers.

I strongly believe that Blizzard will go to the community with thorough discussion about what we want next-be ready for that, and ensure you are part of that discussion. Just remember that phase 6 is probably at least a year away, if not 18-24 months away. Plenty of time for them to observe how we respond to Classic, and plenty of time to strategise how the community will determine next steps.
RuneScape uses a polling system, where additional content requires a 75% positive vote rate to implement. Blizzard may well do something similar.
Why not keep WOW classic servers and add TBC servers later if needed?

ashura355 speculation speculation. wow originally shocked the company with the consistent, continual growth until 2011. Most people after that we’re just waiting for the game to become what it once was again. It may die fast, but it may also be a chance to start clean.

I want tbc itemization + talents for up to lvl60. I dont want battlegrounds, I want proper reasons and desires to go out and explore the world and encourage people to interact. Getting into worldpvp together and strategically band and attack/defend is so much more fun than 'queue up for WSG.. ow its an organized team... just afk to get honor quick... or oh its organized team, this gonna be a 2hr WSG game..'
Wow to me had that great experience where you meet people and go out to explore the world together. Thats what made the game great.
Definitely gonna play WoW Classic.. Further on WOTLK would be freaking awesome as well!
I reason that Blizzard should build a new game from Classic, and not add old expansions because that would deflate the whole purpose and drive of Classic: experiencing a time when WoW was great. Building on top of Classic would usher in a new era of gaming philosophy and ultimately be a better experience in the long haul.
I really would like TBC and wrath expansions eventually but I think they should probably make separate servers for that, not the vanilla servers. Or specific progression servers, like Everquest did.
Anybody else think it would be really cool if instead of redoing burning crusade blizz developed new content with all those fun unreleased zones of original wow that were so mysterious and exciting back in the day?

In terms of new content post the 6 phases, I would like to see them continue with expansions but keep the vanilla experience alive.
They MUST remember that there is a big difference between QOL and easy mode - something they blurred terribly in the retail version over the years.
Then again... there is a little devil inside of me that thinks it might be very cool for Classic to be an "alternate reality" to the retail version and really do a whole different story line......
Seems like Blizz is using classic to test new hardware. This could mean that the next expansion will utilize layering.
I'm excited that classic is a testing bed. It means Blizz is investing in it for the long run of the franchise.

I would love additional updates for classic. Without a big itemlevel increase or a higher max level, just to have a bit more to do. After Naxx is a item farm on many servers ofc.
The game died for me when Cataclysm came out and Wrath ended. Wrath was the pinnacle of WoW. Classic and TBC were also very well done. Moment their next major launch was little more than a reskin of the existing world, it all felt lazy and sloppy. QoL additions kept rolling in faster and faster, catering to the whiners on the forums didn't stop and the game just became less and less about community and challenge. Did I like waiting 30-60 mins sometimes for queues depending on my class preference? No. But not at the cost of what followed

Tomorrow deep dive is featuring a shaman who became an officer In dogz on North dale, during Mc times he forced the gm to make him an officer which then enabled him to loot council loot to himself such as azure stone mace from Mc, which he did and the quit raiding right after getting his items.
Wow classic expansion rollout should alternate with live. We got BFA in 2018, Classic in 2019, I would love to see 9.0 in 2020, Classic 2.0 in 2021, and so on. However, this is where I diverge... I want all the classic content and expansions, but with all the community killing features removed. Never Institute LFD or LFR. I think the rest of the creatcher comforts are fine, but nothing that makes us anonymous in groups or takes away from server community.
BFA will just die and that's it.

I've heard you now float the idea a few times that Blizz might develop fresh new content for WoW: Classic. I've just gotta say that I don't think anything like that is gonna happen. More-over, I think that would actually be a poor decision for them to make. If they have the resources and manpower to devote to brand new WoW content, it would make the most sense to put that all into Retail (9.0, 10.0, etc.). I'd be more than happy with them eventually having some other Legacy servers set at BC or Wrath expansions and allow us to relive more old content, and keep their design focus on brand new expansions that reincorporate the great things from Vanilla that made us all fall in love with this franchise.
Or better yet: a brand new IP (doesn't even have to be by Blizzard) that revives the magic of Vanilla WoW; the exploration, the sense of achievement, and most importantly the community.
Pesticus Veno I agree. I believe retail is too far gone to incorporate “Vanilla” principles at this point. I do believe there are some other companies with a keen eye on Classic’s success.
First off there is a few ways in my opinion they could approach make servers that restart after X amount of time, have a server that patches 1.13, do nothing after expansion, expand TBC classic. The worst thing they could do IMHO is the last 2, because people were craving classic even in the WotLK days and WoW didn't do so good after that so if they keep up with how fast they did expansions they game would be over in 4 years. Leaving it alone would probably make classic have a longer life because you would have people doing things in the game or joining other server doing things you don't normally do. If your wonder why these two are the worst options, its because most of the population are casual people and they will have a chance at Naxx and AQ40 a small % were hardcore raiders that earned the right to be there. So if they push the expansions like players are hardcore raiders again the result will be the same. The crying will return and so will the outcry. People will want to go back to private servers to play classic wow if they put TBC classic and WotLK classic.
there is another option, be able to select a server that will restart ever X or one that is patched 1.13.
And most important: No faking flying mounts in future!
Question: What will you guys do if the classic population exceeds the retail population?

Really dont want to see more legacy servers. I feel like that is just getting on the bus riding back into the ruin that has become retail WoW. I would much rather see new content developed for classic without adding levels to the game.
and that what you said is actually getting on a bus instead, as that part of content would be developed by the team that still works on BFA and retail in general, while TBC and WotLK were developed by the original team that actually cared about the game and these 3 games are a part of trilogy. not quadrilogy, trilogy. the story of arthas ends with WotLK (from warcarft 3).
@@LikeVenom18 dont really care who they were developed by. It was the additions to the game that slowly started the downfall. Flight, portals, massive HP pools/damage.
@@kyleswarts6660 lol, you actually have no idea what you're talking about. TBC damage was actually exactly the same as vanilla damage, they only got rid of one shotting by adding higher healthpool and resilience and that's a good thing - so in reality, if you bash TBC damage and healthpool, you're really only bashing the classic one's. portals were a thing in vanilla as well, while flying was bad - no denying, but the sub numbers actually tell a different story. instead of stagnating or declining, sub numbers were increasing all the way until the WotLK, where the actual peak was - the record amount of players. cata was a disappointment and you can see the number of subs declining, not as fast as players (like myself) hoped the game would get better. past that, you can see it declines even further at a much higher pace. so, that "downfall" as you call it had several times more subs than the actual good game then. if only all "downfalls" were like that.
@@LikeVenom18 TBC was my favorite expansion. I still dont want to recreate legacy servers for every single xpac regardless of how "successful" they were. "Old Town Road" by lil nas X has broken multiple history making song records. Does that make it the best? Absolutely not. Numbers aren't everything.
@@kyleswarts6660 it was a part of trilogy that ended with WotLK. inform yourself about how WoW was actually made and what the original story for it is. it followed warcraft 3, but in greater detail. vanilla was only the beginning and cata was garbage and had nothing to do with the actual story. it is a trilogy. there are more people interested into TBC and WotLK than they are in the actual vanilla. if blizzard magically opened all 3 of them at the same time, numbers would've proved it. over 2 million players are playing on only 4 of the TBC/WotLK mega servers. definitely shows how "unsuccessful" these expansions were.

I just don't see where there would be room to do additional Classic WoW content. Naxx gear breaks the game already and this time, more than a few people will get to experience that problem.
Just make a new raid without item creep. Most items that could drop could only have +arcane resist as an example, but a bit lower stats then t3. Then you would need that gear for the new raid, lets say kara, but overall people wouldn't rly get stronger.

I know that feel. I'm on one of the private servers that will cease to exist in a few weeks, and it's still somewhat alive. Ran Uldaman yesterday, Maraudon the day before.
I wish they would release the specifications. All I have is a crappy laptop that I would like to play on. No idea if it will run classic. I can run a private server with no issues. Everytime I ask in a forum if my laptop can run it I get "just buy a new pc". If my laptop cant run classic I'll probably just stay on a private server.
A potato can run Classic, I'm sure you can at least level with your laptop, probably not raid tho

I think what would be cool is after the six phases (maybe six months after) they open new fresh servers with the intent of adding new content that was originally planned in the Vanilla days. Thinks like, Vanilla Karazhan and I think there was another raid they were planning on doing for Vanilla before it got the ax when TBC launched. Might be pretty interesting to see happen.
As a casual gamer, it will be hard to be on par with everyone, but I have never played classic so I would like to experience what veteran wow players did. I already have everything I want but the servers I want to be on. Whether its a PVP or PVE server because I’m not that much of a hardcore gamer as I was like 5-7 years younger. Need some help to make my mind up. Any suggestions?
Probably pvp, unless you have 0% interest in large scale world pvp battles or small skirmishes. Obviously no one likes being ganked but its something everyone puts up with for the pvp experience
brainer3 right, well I don’t want to miss any excitement so PvP it is! I plan on making an alt the same day I make my main. So that way if I’m being camped then I could just level my alt when they do it.
The ganking sucks all joy out of the game for me. When I'm level 30 and two alliance level 60's are camping out the entire zone I'm questing in, I spend the entire time looking over my shoulder or corpse running. I suggest that you level up on a pve server first. You can still pve, just not at all times.
D Armstrong yeah that’s the only bad thing about it. I did put pvp in retail and still kept getting ganked. I still have about 25 days left so thanks for the suggestion.
I think the future is to add more content to vanilla, in a way like Old Runescape is doing. Add new content but without making the old content easy, trying to keep it balanced. Some kind of new spin off story or events in the classic era, or the inevitable classic TBC. But i think going like old school runescape is what they should do, adding new content in the classic era and then lauch a new TBC server paralele to classic wow in the future.
@blizzard incase you are reading, I am playing classic with the hope TBC comes next. If there is a second "season" of classic like diablo 3 before TBC that is fine in my opinion.
When you released the classic video launch at blizzcon with the gnomish discombobulator, you said something like "they said we couldnt go home, but they were wrong.." Home for me is Outlands! And my holidays was WOTLK but I always return home to TBC!!
