I met him as a small girl, my father met him when Paul rode the Conch Tour Train in Key West, Florida. Paul and my dad became friends and every time Paul would come to town, he’d invite us four kids to go to the mini golf with him. He was truly our uncle Paul, God rest his soul!! Loved him, miss him dearly! 😢

What was classic and iconic about Mr Lynde was how he had a hilarious snappy answer to the question, perfectly timed for maximum laughs, but then would retreat into pensive thought to get the answer correct for the contestant. He was more often than not correct, but missed enough times that you could never say with certainty he knew the questions ahead of time. He was a comic genius. If you ever watch the old Match games, Richard Dawson would frequently give a very good impression of Lynde. Often imitated, but never duplicated.

He bounced back with a vengeance, though. Knowing now about his insecurities and fears of being forgotten and a nobody, it must have crushed his soul a little for his biggest movie role to be forgotten by one of his co-stars on the same panel.
