What was classic and iconic about Mr Lynde was how he had a hilarious snappy answer to the question, perfectly timed for maximum laughs, but then would retreat into pensive thought to get the answer correct for the contestant. He was more often than not correct, but missed enough times that you could never say with certainty he knew the questions ahead of time. He was a comic genius. If you ever watch the old Match games, Richard Dawson would frequently give a very good impression of Lynde. Often imitated, but never duplicated.
When I played Templeton the Rat in my fourth grade production of "Charlotte's Web" you can SURE AS 💩 bet I based my performance on Lynde's voice acting from the 1979 animated version of E.B. White's novel. I ❤ this man.
Loved Paul as Uncle Arthur on Bewitched. I swear he must have written most of his lines himself because they just fit his wit and personality so we'll.
I saw the 2 hour length and laughed... and laughed... and laughed! I can't believe I listened to the whole thing. Strange but remarkable body of work. Kudos to Mr. Lynd for taking us back!

It took the wind out of his sails for a few rounds when Connie Stevens failed to remember that he was in Bye, Bye Birdie. He answered the next few questions seriously, without trying to be funny. He bounced back with a vengeance, though. Knowing now about his insecurities and fears of being forgotten and a nobody, it must have crushed his soul a little for his biggest movie role to be forgotten by one of his co-stars on the same panel. He was a true trailblazer. If only he knew how influential he truly was.
I'm so glad I grew up in those times. This world today is so disturbingly fucked up. Despite what todays TV, movies, and the media portray, those times were AMAZING beyond description!!!

This is that moment where I say I miss Paul. Paul was a staple in my youth and have to reason I have my current giggle and comedy response. Paul and used to be my mentor. I'm miss him dearly.

@@aspenrebel, that was a joke that Michael Landon told on a Dean Martin roast back in the 70's. He said he was always asked if the Cartwright men were gay. He said, "I'm here to tell you that the Cartwrights were never gay. Then he said the Hop Sing line.
There is a reason Paul has the center square. He's the star of the show.
It certainly says a lot that Paul was chosen first as often as he was when he wasn’t in the center square. The center square is almost always chosen first.
Not all the time,as some of these have him on the left.
It wasn't until later till he was relocatied to the middle.

The one liners were all written ahead of time, and by someone else. Paul was so insecure about his jokes, he had someone write for him.
