They ask troll questions like that all the time. Some of them are mild, but some like the Cass Elliot one seem malicious. They asked Paul Lynde, who was gay, hypothetically what he should do if his fourteen year old son shows no interest in girls…..
As you know Marshall died a week and a half ago, Arnaz and Rich Little are still alive. Met Rich in Las Vegas, he is a great guy, took a picture with me and have it hanging in the living room, friends are surprised by the picture.
Actually, the show first began airing in November 1971 in syndication though many stations didn't start airing it until almost a year later, in many cases running a year behind when they were originally filmed from what I remember reading at first.
@@XJCherokeeBear I was a kid at the time, but I vaguely remember my local station making an announcement before to the start of several shows "Tonight's episode of The Hollywood Squares was taped prior to the death of Wally Cox." [If he's on the show, well, duh!]
We had that green '72 Chevy Vega! I can remember mom driving me to school in that car, but sadly the road salt from those Indiana winters eventually rusted it out. 😢
Excellent quality video... with the Slate for the promo, I am assuming you got this from the original broadcast tape. So much more enjoyable than watching the degraded, VHS quality tapes on some of the other channels. Thanks!
during the earlier episodes of the night time version they didnt play music during the secret square description. i dont know when they started doing it but by 1974 they were
After watching numerous editions of this show over the past two weeks I have no doubt some of these "stars" were on drugs, alcohol, pills or some combination therein.
This doesn't come from GSN as there's no TVPG rating or network logos, but this episode might well have aired on GSN in 2002-03. If not, it hasn't been seen in 45+ years.
I'm sorry but Peter Marshall never knows the state of the game and always stumbles over the question readings. I hope he did better describing floats at the Rose Parade.
When stars were stars - miss those days!
wally cox was great on this episode. that is too foolish to answer was a great line
Cox died about six months after this broadcast and Mana Cass died about two years later.
Gioomy
Peter asked Mama Cass a question about eating? WTF was that all about? I was 5 at the time of this taping. Love it!

Cass Elliott so beautiful. Love her long hair.
A moose.
As of 2-28-21 these are all of the living stars from this show: Peter Marshall (94), Rich Little (82) & Lucie Arnaz (69).
and Karen Valentine

Some stations in March 1974 aired episodes with Wally Cox, One Year after he died.

Anybody watching this while believing that the 1900s 1910s 1920s 1930s 1940s 1950s 1960s 1970s 1980s and 1990s were better than the 21st century?
The 30s and the 40s? Hell no!!
Why not just say the 20th Century?
Aired in October 1972
The best always paul lynde

Difficult to believe Cass died from a heart attack just a few years later in 1974 (age 32)
Lucie Arnaz did a great job fooling the female contestant about Sinbad...and with a straight face! An entertaining actress like her mother:)
I take her at her word and think that she didn’t know the answer.
NO music during either Secret Square prize description. Oops.

Thanks for cutting out the channel's commercials. Some ppl like em but not I.
This is a copy of the studio master tape. While some shows "baked" commercials into the master, _Squares_ was not one of them.

Thanks for your efforts.
Yes, who needs ads when the description of the secret square prizes go on forever.

Paul Lynde tells a black joke and the black contestant laughs!
Those were the days.
Great to see an episode without the dreaded credit crunch GSN always had at the end.

I can confirm that GSN did indeed air this episode in 2002-2003.

Love Carl Reiner's joke about Ronnie Reagan, lol.
Meathead Sr.!!!
Buddy Hackett, still a camera hog.
Why do they refer to O's as circles? They don't even look like circles on the game board.
Who cares !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Buddy Hackett? Nope; I'm out.
Boy what cheap cars they award

Peter won a number of Emmys for this show. Maybe you might say "It's not what you know, it's who you know."
Yes, it’s strange how he can’t read so many of the questions properly.
Did Lucie Arnez ever read...anything?
