- I know this is so far from the content a normally make but this channel that i love called Unus Annus is having a challenge this month called #MarchusAnnus where you basically work on something every single day within the month. I've really wanted to learn The Lesson by Victor Wooten for a while so i figured this would be a good idea for it. Obviously this song is way above my skill level but it was cool to see how far i could get. i plan to continue working on it (especially the extremely hard parts that i didn't show in this video) and hopefully post a FULL video in the future. But like i said, this is really hard so i didn't do a perfect job, but thats okay, my goal was just to work on it and thats what i did!

Victor Wooten is incredible. I only really know his compositions through his work with the flecktones, but this piece was amazing! I should check out more of his catalog. Great playing as usual.

Yeah I’ve been dealing with a lot of random anxiety lately and sometimes it shows in my videos. Like on my tool cover video I was having a legit anxiety attack during filming I was shaking could barely breathe it was so awful. I try not to let it translate over to my videos too much and when I get to playing and stop thinking it helps a lot but sometimes it’s hard to hide. I might go see a doctor about it though. On a separate note, working on this tune was actually so much fun, there’s so much your hands are doing that I didn’t even realize til I learned it so its honestly a lot harder than it looks 😅 I’m going to keep chipping away at it though and my goal is to one day do a full cover of this tune (even the really hard bits that I didn’t play in this). I’m glad you liked the vlogging bits too! I was nervous to upload a video like this cause I wasn’t sure how it was going to be received but I’m glad I did it!

Good attempt! How long have you been playing bass for? And what bass model is that
HXMbamwam almost 5 years I think. Also sorry I commented but I forgot I was playing my other bass in this hahaha. In THIS video I’m using an ESP LTD B-50 FM. It was the first bass I ever got and it really holds it down, I’m not a huge fan of active pickups because I always forget I need to change the battery, but i think it makes a big tonal difference between this vs my fender that I usually use. I also used this one bc it has more frets than my fender, which this song needs.
@@AushaMusic Nice model! What Fender do you have, would you mind sharing the model? And how your amp/recording setup is like?
HXMbamwam so my fender is an American Fender Precision neck with an American Fender Jazz body, it was a sunburst but I refinished it to that khaki color. When I was sanding the body I didn’t get rid of that sunburst underneath so that when the khaki finish eventually wears down over time, that sunburst will start peaking thru. My setup for recording, (if I’m playing with a backing track) I’ll have a Scarlet 2i2 Focusrite interface running to Logic on my laptop, I’ll do DI into that with my bass and on the interface I’ll run an output thru to an amp so I can hear the track and myself as I’m tracking out loud. However when I play things without backing tracks and just solo (like in this video) I prefer to skip running it to an amp and to just use headphones directly into the interface. I HIGHLY recommend this interface (the focusrite headphones that come with it aren’t my favorite but they’re obviously a lot better than normal earbuds or a lot of other headphones I’ve tried)
