"I never left, I am Sam Fisher"
~ Micheal Ironside 2018
Best way to start a interview
Jesus he sounds like Sam even without trying. This dude really is Sam Fisher!
PULP Or maybe Sam is trying to be like Sam?
may he not event try to be "Sam Fisher".
Yeah it’s his natural voice lol
Probably because it’s his actual voice..?
PULP when ever I hear Michael ironside, Kevin conroy, or Mark hamil speak all I hear is Sam, batman and the joker
I love how he says it with the utmost confidence, like how Bruce Wayne says he *is* Batman
Michael is to Sam as Kevin Conroy is to Batman
Heart skipped a Beat when he says "I am Sam Fisher".
So much Confidence in that Single Sentence that commends the Utmost Respect.
He did voice batman
Or how Tony Stark no fucks givien goes: I'm Ironman
ION Rayner he also voiced darkseid
Micheal literally build Sam Fisher character and personalities
"Do you want me to cut open your throat and look for the words inside your neck?"
Favorite and badass quote EVER!!

@Andeddo Zonbi Couldn't agree more!
JUST GIVE US ANOTHER SPLINTER CELL GAME ALREADY >:(
E3?...
I'd be pretty surprised if Ubisoft spent Michael Ironside money JUST to get him in the booth and record a handful of lines for a mission in Wildlands.
We are waiting for E3 😎
There's definitely a new game coming... That Amazon slip up, along with the wild lands expansion, and all this splinter cell talk isn't just for no reason...

I remember playing the first Splinter Cell game. I would stay up late with my father, and we would take turns trying to get through the game as stealthily as possible. Me and my father had never really bonded until this game came out, and from then and on we enjoyed gaming together.
jesus, that voice..... such nostalgia
It's amazing how passionate he is about the character. He really is Sam Fisher, he knows the guy through and through. Blacklist didn't just change the voice, it changed the character Michael had built from the ground up.
Yep, Blacklist butchered his character
agreed. no one remembers who the new voice actor is and hates what he did for the story. it was as if the new guy watched a few batman cartoons from the newest era and all of a sudden its all about "the mission." finish the mission. the mission is law. nothing else matters but the mission. they could have held a contest on who is the best Michael Ironside impression and it would have turned out better than this dribble but ubisoft had to make use of their latest mocap investment and wanted nothing to do with actually having character continuity.
Yeah I'm about to comment on a 4 year old post.
Yeah, Blacklist didn't capture who Sam is as a character. But I think part of what needs to be know is that while Blacklist was in development, Michael Ironside was battling cancer and I believe he was going through rounds of chemo at the time. It's not necessarily that Ubisoft wanted to replace him, but he wasn't available to reprise the role.

That moment when the competition has more respect for a franchise than the company that made it famous. How did Konami go so wrong?
He never left!? LOOK AT MY WOUNDS! LOOK AT IT! 😭
Cancer?!!! I never knew this I thought he just got tired of the character or Ubisoft doesn't want him anymore. How's his health right now? Did he mention anything about it?
gn019202492000 He's gotten over his cancer and is doing really well.
We can all agree that a new Splinter Cell is in the works.
Thank you so much all above for the info!
Shh, we'll just pretend blacklist never happened
@@JohnSmith-tj2dq Black list was ok I played the game on mute
I doubt Michael will ever read this comment. But Mike, you are one of the most influential voices from my youth. I played through every game and fell absolutely in love with the character that you brought to life. Thank you so much.
The man thats going to bring Splinter Cell back to its roots.
Absolute champion and THE only Sam Fisher. Ubisoft, if Ironside retires then don't bring in someone new and call him Sam Fisher. There is only 1
CJ Sam and Mr Ironside as the new Lambert/voice in your ear as you conduct ops as the new Splinter Cell... whoever that might be.
Dylan Goodwin that's what I was saying about blacklist. Make him the leader of fourth echelon conducting a new agent. I'd he fine with that.
CJ -- Absolutely. Can't have some else voice Sam.
his voice is not the same anymore unless he cut some weight. you can tell the differece, the voice is from a oversized guy....
I really liked Eric Johnson in the role and fit the character of Fisher very well.
Amazing actor, can listen to his stories all day, and that voice.
He is Sam Fisher, he is Splinter Cell.
Ironside is such a fucking badass last name
Mr. Ironside literally is one of the people who made Sam's character, not just the voice but also his history
I have played Splinter Cell since the very first game when it came out and man, I immediately fell in love with it. I have played and finished every game now except for Pandora Tomorrow. Now knowing that we are getting another game with Sam and Michael back, makes me feel like a child again, like a child opening the new Splinter Cell: Stealth Action Redefined game back in the day.
David Arreola Peña Play Pandora Tomorrow immediately!
kristopherm3 Send me the link to download it! :(
@David Arreola Pena Pandora Tomorrow was my favorite SC game. It was also the first SC game I played (somewhere in the 90s). I lost the CD it was on and I have been trying to find a download for a while now. But haven't found one that works yet.
I've played all except Pandora Tomorrow. On all consoles. Especially Essentials on PSP. 😋😍 I want a collection of them!! 😍
I would say he did not age well but he faced cancer and survived. Sir, you can do whatever you want.
"There was this other guy, though. Army Infiltration. He wore a bandana or something."
"I heard he finally retired."
"Really? ...Then it's only me..."
That line always give me chills lol
Noone can recreate his voice
*NOONE*

*HOLD MY BEER*
What about Kiefer Sutherland?

that is so impossible dude
"It's only me"
The small dlc for Ghost Recon ends with a small "cliffhanger"/bait -with that lady whom I don't know the name of- mentioning both Grim and the request to re-deploy Sam elsewhere in the world for another mission. If that's not an unofficial confirmation of a new main SC game, I don't know what is.
ALSO FUCK YOU UBISOFT FOR RELEGATING SAM FISHER TO A GLORIFIED NPC IN AN ENTIRELY DIFFERENT FRANCHISE BUT THANK YOU UBISOFT FOR BRINGING BOTH SAM AND MICHAEL BACK.
ChaosZero ノブ He’s the only one left.... think about that.
Think about it: "Splinter Cell: Watchman"
Watchman spelled with an "a", not an "e". Defining singular, not plural. Maybe theyll make another SC or a couple, bidding a final farewell to Sam and Michael. Then handing it of to a WORTHY protaganist.
Love the reference Sam did to Snake. " There was this other guy though..... Army Infiltration. He wore a bandana or something... " then they tell him he retired and Sam gives that sad look and says " It's only me. ". I legit love Ubisoft for that like holy shit that was so good.
I just hope they send him off to a peaceful retirement that isn't 6 feet under...
They did the DLC to "introduce the character to a whole new generation", meaning they just did this to prepare the kids for a future release. Promotion.
Micheal Ironside just interviewed himself.
Interviewers questions..."So your Sam Fisher"
your car, you'RE sam fisher (you are).
not that hard :)
Blacklist really threw me off because Ironside wasn't in it, but seeing him back to voice one of the most badass character in a stealth genre, genuinely makes me happy.
fuzzybuzzy because he had a cancer at that time so he can't do voice for Sam Fisher in Blacklist
@@Hard562010 Ubisoft should have delayed Blacklist because it was essential for Splinter Cell.
Michael Ironside _is_ Splinter Cell.
@@PhilipMarcYT agree
Gonna be honest, i almost got emotional watching this interview. Seeing Micheal Ironside back again as Sam Fisher brought back so many great Memories as a kid playing the Splinter Cell series. this dude is one of my Heroes for gods sake!!! wish i could give this man a handshake and a hug and thank him for all he's given to the Character that we all know and love. i really do hope Ubisoft makes another Splinter Cell game with Mr.Ironside reprising his role as Sam......as he said himself.....He IS Sam Fisher.
ENOUGH DLC FOR GHOST RECON AND RAINBOW SIX !!! GIVE US SPLINTER CELL!!!
Cool! I had no idea Mr. Ironside had so much influence on the development of the character of Sam Fisher.
When I close my eyes I see sam talking in the dark..
I like the fact that Splinter cell and ghost recon are in the same universe.
I've always theorized that all Tom Clancy related games are all part of the same universe
The Protagonist same. A lot if the books including rainbow six are a continuous story with characters from other books showing up.
P.S. Nice Persona profile picture.
All Tom Clancy characters live within the same universe. It’s always been that way. I think the first time they did a gaming crossover was in EndWar.
KhAoz I've never played endwar. Is it good?
Yeah, I loved it. The voice commands weren’t perfect (likely due to the headset technology at the time) and the Online component was absolutely brutal but overall, it was great.
If Ubisoft at one point decides to retire Michael Ironside. They need to implement a new Splinter Cell, they can't just replace him like they once tried. I like the idea of Sam Fisher mentoring a new Splinter Cell agent if it ever got to that point.
Isaac Briggs
Maybe his daughter should be the next generation.
@@akwilson1676 that would be very stupid and Sam wouldnt allow it
@@TomiMancini It could be a very grounded and messed up realistic soft reboot though
What a professional.
MrNightpwner a quiet professional? ;)
my heart cannot contain this much awesome. i'm just so happy.
I really liked Conviction, I think I heard it's Ironside's least favorite (probably because of how brutal Sam is in it) but I liked how it was a very dark and personal story for Fisher and it worked great as the end of a series. If they do decide to make a new game I hope they ignore Blacklist as much as possible.
xxxCrackerJack501xxx it was a good game... but play it again. You’ll notice Michael Ironsides voice acting is at a point where he didn’t care at all about it.
xxxCrackerJack501xxx Blacklist was amazing what do you mean
Jacob Newson
I've been replaying Conviction recently and personally I think his performance was still very strong, even exceptional at certain points, some moments it felt like *Sam* was depressed or uncaring but I didn't take that as *Ironside* not caring or putting in his usual 100 percent. Maybe you're right though since apparently it's his least favorite.
NVCody
The gameplay was FAR too easy and seemed like it was for casuals, yes, but I still think the story was good and worked well for an ending to the series. It ended up not being the end of course and we got that disappointing shell of a game Blacklist (now THAT game is SplinterCasual to the extreme).
dah500
To me Blacklist is a *decent* generic action-stealth game but as a Splinter Cell title it's terrible. Like this interview said Ironside IS Sam Fisher, to replace him with someone else felt wrong and it really took away from the game. They also made Sam significantly younger which was just odd, he should've looked like he does in the Ghost Recon mission. The story was just so bland too compared to other games in the series and most of the dialogue felt like it was coming from a bland action thriller movie. On top of all that the gameplay was just way to easy and heavily combat oriented a lot of the time. It's like all the complaints I hear people say about Conviction were magnified by 10 and implemented into Blacklist.
Legend
Id love to play a remake of the first one on the Xbox one x
paddy91317 id love if they release just a complete collection of the xbox and xbox 360. I would totally buy it
Skeletor You’re in for a massive treat if you do ever get to play it.
Skeletor Shame you never got round to playing Chaos Theory, its a real gem. I'm a little confused though, you said you didn't get the chance because you had a PS2. Chaos Theory was on PS2, Xbox and PC.
paddy91317 Ive been saying the same shit. Where are even the backwards compatible versions. I say any of the first 3. They were all great. After that, Ubisoft went in on the all business side for them to more of a focus on multiplayer even though the 3rd installment included a great mercs Vs. spies experience which I never played. Including that shaves the single player experience by 1/3.
In those first 3 games, once you were exposed, the game would kill you or at least felt defeated even if you were able to hide until a cool down. Nothing you can do. Thats the Sam Fischer experience fans want.
CJ P. Chaos theory was released on ps2 just with averege graphics
God I wish I had his Voice freaken awsome
Don't think the interviewers expected him to get that deep and that real. But hey, he's Sam Fisher.
I wished they didn't killed Irving Lambert off in Double Agent, would love to get Dennis Haysbert back. Now is just Sam & Grim.
Yeah, what's worse is that you could save him in DA and in Conviction they just went with Fisher shooting Lambert because why not :/ Give us back Lambert, Ubi, retcon it or whatever, I don't care ;_;
penyuwan yeah too bad, but hey Sam did what was needed.
Double Agent had two versions, in one of them you don't get a choice to save him, you're forced to kill him and that version is the canon one.
TheSkipRow Gaming You can save him in both versions AFAIK.
There isn’t a version where you’re forced to kill Lambert. They just made Lambert’s death canon for Conviction.
It's always refreshing to know that someone who helped shape some of your fondest videogame memories is also an awesome person. Organically, of course.
great actor! great presence, camera acting and voice acting. thoroughly enjoyed the interview. very glad to hear he is doing SF again!
Such a brilliant craftsman. His philosophy is precisely the reason the Splinter Cell games were meaningful to people. He could have easily ended up like a generic VG drone. Attention to craft is what continues to separate "games" from genuine works of art/craft.
Oh they are definitely revealing another Splinter Cell game this year
DeathStalker I'm so stoked. I want to cry lol
This didn't age well, unfortunately 😔
@@liammcnulty1987 Yeah whoever is in charge is a massive idiot for replacing the actor and adding Sam to R6 -_-
I'm randomly watching this interview now, and man Michael Ironside is so dope. Great interview.
Absolutely amazing voice
What Luciano Pavarotti is to opera, Michael Ironside is to speech
Guys this is all just eluding to another splinter cell release. Michael has been in many interviews since the Wildlands DLC release continuing to say he never left as Sam Fisher. The reason he didn't voice Sam in Blacklist is because he had cancer during its production and he wasn't sure he'd survive. Now he's cancer free and will most definitely be voicing Sam. There has been amazon leaks, website leaks, Ubisoft CEO confirmed they've reviewed sketches and proposals for a new game well over a year ago. It's happening. Expect something at E3 2018.
i really hope you're not joking because i would really like to get my hands on a game where i can play as sam fisher
Waneklap, well, if you have an older console, there are six games where you could play as Sam.
Josh Donihue I didn't know about this cancer issue. Why Ubisoft didn't say anything about it instead of giving that lame excuse of "finding an actor who could do both voice acting and motion capture"?
yutro213 Iron side also said that he didn't want to do the voice because of the direction they were going with the game.
Josh Donihue not sure if that's entirely true because reports have been confirmed that Michael Ironside was out of the job because the devs wanted someone who could not only do the voice work but also wear the mocap suit to capture all the facial expressions, stunts performed in-game for sam fisher.
I would really like a remastered splinter cell. ANY of them will do
I really want a Pandora Tomorrow and Chaos Theory remaster
Give me Blacklist on PS4 and I’m set until the next game.
Kevin Vu all of them
Double agent on Xbox was really fun too
If they could just put them on Xbox One X backwards compatibility with the enhanced patches you wouldn't even need a remaster, the graphics are really good in those games and with a 4k update it would be gorgeous
With the absence of Michael Ironside, Blacklist felt like a sequel to the previous game in an alternate timeline
Great interview, great actor, great voice!
100% sure we're getting another Splinter Cell now
A week ago i started the Micheal Ironside drinking game - Only one rule, take a shot every time he says Organic or Organically....
I just woke up from my Coma.
You have no idea how happy I am to see him healthy in some newer movies. He is a legend and has been in so many movies from when I was a kid until now. He will always be Sam Fisher to me as well.
I too have an emotional attachment to the voice. Brings me lots of happy nostalgia from when i was a kid.
blacklist was good, it would have been a whole lot better if Michael voiced him though. Can't wait till the next instalment
doit86 that game was ass
Rayne Birkin ikr, it had a weak plot. The Multiplayer was one of the best.
Gameplay literally kept that game afloat

I agree, Blacklist was a great game, and nothing against the actor that played Sam in Blacklist, because he is a good actor, but you just can't replace Michael Ironside.
I don't know about you guys, but I enjoy SC Blacklist. I'm hoping that they can do a remaster or remake of it, but this time have Ironside voice Sam there. No disrespect to Eric Johnson, he's decent, but Ironside is Sam.
Shinku Kirito Ichika I agree that the game is good, to me at least and maybe to many ppl too, it just that the game is quite different to its older title and somewhat lost the charm that made it famous which hardcore fan don't like. That's what i feel from seeing and listening others opinions anyway.
Black list is smooth and fast the whole thing with Sam is that he's old dude who's been through the rough end of war where all he cares is his daughter which explains his cynical dark cocky sense of humour, the mistake ubisoft made was trying to make him 20 they should have made him the head of fourth echelon then a new fresh form of game play may have been expected because minus the bugs and the spies being op in multiplayer blacklist was a fun take
The game was good and was well received but just for some reason underperformed in sales
Shinku Kirito Ichika i agree with you, but eric johnson shouldnt be cut off entirely, because he did a terrific job at blacklist, ubisoft should hire eric johnson as a different character that will eventually replace the og sam fisher once he is retire as if a new generation of spy, eric johnson have the voice and build for these types of games.
Game Hunter for some reason? Do people not follow games? Jesus....
He strikes me as such a deeply thoughtful and humble man.
He's not lying, Sam Fisher is actually Michael Ironside's VA.
Oh PLEASE tell me he was hinting at another full game ... I need Ironside Fisher one more time!!
I so happy to see the passion that Ubisoft are putting again in their games, R6, Farcry, Ghost Recon, Splinter Cell, I think that Ubisoft are recovering in fantastic way.
Rafael Nogueira they never left
Rafael Nogueira kinda miss PoP though.
Rafael Nogueira They've always been good.
Let's hope they don't fk up Splinter Cell by making it another repetitive model open world game.
I never played the games but I love Michael Ironside's movie roles. That story he told about the businessman in the airplane was pretty moving
As a Metal Gear Solid fan i too grew up with splinter cell Sam fisher's awesome voice actor Michael ironside !
since metal gear solid is done and Solid Snake has retired. It's time for Sam to continue that torch of Sneaking and Stealth.
Chaos Theory is still one of the best stealth games ever

This man is a legend.
My father played Splinter Cell games when I was a small kid. Those games were the ones who introduced me to the whole video game world I now love. I'm really grateful.
Wow, that story about the base for his take on Sam Fisher was eye opening. Love that passion.
He loves that character.
I think this DLC was just a teaser for a new splinter cell game. Pandora Tomorrow and Double Agent were my favourite one.
BeaR my favorites are Chaos Theory and Conviction.
I’m a fan of all of them but my favourites would be Pandora Tomorrow, Conviction and Blacklist.
BeaR chaos theory, and double agent on the original xbox

Michael Ironside is a legend. Loved his acting and voice when I first saw Total Recall.

If anyone besides him voiced Sam, it would be a crime.
32 Threads blacklist
Was Blacklist someone else? I definitely played it but I just don't remember
32 Threads It was some younger actor named Eric Johnson. Ironside coached him, but he just couldn't pull it off.
Oh wow. I'd forgotten I guess because I've played every game
I hope all this talk and resurgence actually leads to a new damn game not just a 30 min homage
My most favorite game ever. Whenever a new one would come out I would play all of them in order then play the new one. Please oh please be another splinter cell coming out soon. I never talk to the tv as much as i did playing any of the SC games.
Never knew that he voiced Sam Fisher! I only knew him from Total Recall as Richter, the guy Arnold was supposed to see at the party.
Splinter Cell 2018 please. Even if you decide to do motion capture, Ubisoft, use an actor for the motion but don't try to make someone else Sam's voice. They did it with a Vader, you can do it with Sam. Mo-cap Ironside's face if he can't do the physical stuff, but it's gotta be Ironside.
The Outsider just get someone to do the motion capture and let michael ironside to do the voice and the expressions
Exactly. That's what I was so poorly trying to say at like 4am when I wrote that on my phone in bed lol. Thanks for putting it more succinctly.
I do agree, though. The reason I say this is because that's why they didn't go with Michael Ironside for Splinter Cell: Blacklist, because they did motion capture. I see no reason why they can't have another actor do the stunts for the mo-cap but just have Michael Ironside do the voice and expressions. Just put him in a chair and do up his face like Andy Serkis and boom.
@@TheOutsider69 Splinter cell 2021 please for ps5, xbox, pc.

not only hinting, but almost confirming :)
Samwell Tarly I’ve seen two interviews with Ironside on his “return”, it can’t just be for this small DLC.
There is no way that Ubisoft wouldn’t be making a new game with this type of reintroduction to Sam Fisher.
No doubt, the next Splinter Cell is confirmed and incoming.
Source it.
see you at the party Richter!
Total Legend. I will definitly have to re-install wildlands even if it's just for Sam. Beat conviction again would love if they remastered them all. Expect for blacklist.
This guy made my childhood that much more luxurious... The commentary between him and Lambert was just so relatable.
This makes me really happy that he likes to play Sam.
Dame he got big since i last seen him on screen!
The first 3 splinter cells are my favorite games of all time. I still play them till this day because no other game can do what those games accomplished with the raw stealth. The new games cant capture that same feeling, its just run and gun.
Oh my god. That voice. Brings back so many memories
No Michael Ironside, no buy.
This is beautiful. The E3 reveal can’t come soon enough. Need Splinter Cell 7 already....maybe remaster Blacklist for PS4?
SolidSneakNinja and hd collection with all games would be awesome
And add subtitles this time for the people with bad hearing. Seriously that's the only flaw the series has, the first 4 games lack subtitles/captions.
When he says "Lambert" in chaos theory....those memories💗💗
“I never left.
I am Sam Fisher.”
That’s just legendary.
Oh we, the original splinter cell players, are still out here sir.. With respect. Lol
I do feel little bad for............ that one guy.
Don't be, he's gotten quite a bit of work since
fullMetalVenom Eric Johnson was talented but...
there can only be 1 *Sam Fisher* baby!
fullMetalVenom lol I thought it was just me
Eric Johnson played a fantastic role and matched what they wrote perfectly. The problem is that the writing tried to make Sam Fisher into a new character, a character that Johnson played very well.
I’ve been playing video games for almost 20 years now (as of 2021) and this franchise, and this particular character, is what I remember the most. Nothing ever got me more excited than the first 3 Splinter Cell games. Just like Half-Life 3, I don’t believe Ubisoft can ever match, let alone surpass the bar of those games.
They might not even try because the demand for slow-paced stealth-action games is pretty low, but it doesn’t change my opinion.
I think Mr. Ironside should be always remembered in this industry as THE Sam Fisher (not fucking “Zero”). Such an iconic voice!
That moment when he says “what are you talking about?” Game me chills
