  • Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell is a series of award-winning stealth video games, the first of which was released in 2002, and their tie-in novels. The protagonist, Sam Fisher, is a highly trained agent of a fictional black-ops sub-division within the NSA, dubbed "Third Echelon" (Later ''Fourth Echelon'').
    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tom_Clan...
Up to this date, the series had six major instalments: Splinter Cell, Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow, Splinter Cell Chaos Theory, Splinter Cell Double Agent, Splinter Cell Conviction and Splinter Cell Blacklist
In this video you can see my choice of top 10 moments in the series.
Before watching the video, I would like you to take two important things in consideration:
    1. This list is based on a subjective an opinion, so if you don't agree with it, that's perfectly fine!
    2. This is not a TOP 10 channel. I'm simply a huge fan of the franchise, who recently did a Blacklist gameplay series on this channel, after which I thought: why not make a TOP 10 video. So please don't mind the lack of fancy TOP 10 erects.
With that in mind, I hope you enjoy these TOP 10 Splinter Cell moments.

I love the line on the Battery level where the USS Ronald Reagan has had a missile launched at it and only Sam can stop it and he tells Grim 'are you telling me I have to win one for the Gipper?' And Grim's like 'er dude wtf does that even mean??!' 'Never Mind, Grim, I AM old'.

One of the best ever moments for me is in Displace in Chaos Theory when fisher interrogates a suit loving mercenary who goes on about his Andretti designer suit to which Sam replies 'I'm not a tuxedo kind of guy' to which the guy says 'yeah but you are some kind if spy right?' And Sam quips 'I'm a real spy, not a tuxedo spy'. Take that 007. Now that's a proper diss.

The revelation in Conviction when Fisher finds the audio recording of Lambert confessing that he lied to Fisher about his daughters death was a really cool scene.
The cherry on top is that immediately afterwards you have to escape an onslaught of evil Splinter Cells with the iconic lights colored red instead of green.

Lambert's confession about protecting Sam and Sarah from Tom Reed was one of the best moments in gaming's history. You just feel so relieved and in the same time so sad about Sam killing his friend. And then Sam's pure rage, combined with the music, giving you infinite "mark and execute" ability was such a gold.

Hey how about the moment when Sam discovers the truth about Sarah? I mean the mission where Grim played the recordings of Lambert. Man...that moment where we saw Sam goes furious as Hell. Then followed by an escape scene (sort of) with unlimited Mark & Execute. That's a really emotional yet badass moment in sc series.

    • @chmtech
      @chmtech  9 лет назад +1

Jayr Jayr As I answered somebody else who asked me the same question in the comments -it was an extremely hard decision to make. Here's my line of reasoning: Conviction had so many badass moments, and I didn't want to use more than two scenes from the same instalment. With that said, note how some instalments had only one scene in the countdown, like the original Splinter Cell, for example. Having already decided that the no.1 moment is going to be from Conviction (The ''I used to work here'' scene), I was left with only one more that I could include in the video. And I decided to go with the interrogation scene, rather than the scene you ask for. Why? Well, above all, that's just my choice. But, to defend my decision with an reasonable argument, I made it because I believe that the interrogation scene is a monumental moment that reveals which direction the development of Sam Fishers character is going to go. Not only did it have shock value, it has fundaental and evolutionary value as well. As for the moment when he finds out the truth about his daughter, it is extremely awesome and badass, but in my opinion, it doesnt top the two scenes from Conviction that I decided to go with.

How was Sam finding out about Lambert NOT on this list? Look I know this is subjective but that scene was hands down one of the most emotional ever made. Sam was raging so hard he took on dozens with precise shots to their heads. On a shitstorm scale of 1 through 10, Sam was 1,000.

+Anonix Mercer I agree. Personally, I never hated Conviction. On the contrary! I think that it was necessary for the development of the franchise. While I did enjoy the previous games more, like many more fans, I don't think any of us would have been happy with constantly getting the same old same old, no mather how good it was to begin with. That also doesn't mean that I was a huge fan of that instalment. I did enjoy playing and finishing it, but I just didn't get the urge that I had with other SC games, to replay the game many times, and have fun with it even more than I did playing it the first time around.

      ***** Conviction
shows how rogue Sam Fisher could become! He was much scarier, meaner and showed
the beast that was always inside him! I just love that game! Although all the
games in the franchise are world class, also the voice of
Michael Ironside played a major role in shaping the character in
      the most badass way!
I loved Blacklist as well, but was disappointed not to hear Sam's original
voice! Hope they reinstate Ironside again in the future games!

I was a huge MGS fan till I played the first level of Splinter Cell and experienced gameplay based on stealth and not action. After that, I just didn't care for MGS and its ridiculous writing and faux stealth. Up until Conviction, I absolutely adore the subtlety and understated way the stories unfold. I mean, the first game ends not with some over dramatic 30 minute fight with the main bad guy, but simply something along the lines of Lambert saying, "Nikoladze is vulnerable, take the shot." *bang* He's dead and Sam just slips out unnoticed as everyone freaks out. To me it is one of the coolest endings of any video game. It's elegant, slick, and feels grounded in reality. A great way to cap the whole theme of the game.

Sooo ... a lot of people REALLY hate Conviction. To be fair, yeah, it is not fully a stealth game (it had some but not much). But it was a heck a lot of fun to play. Surely, in the old games, if you get discovered, it's game over but in Conviction, Fisher did not actually care if he was discovered. He was looking for blood.
He noticed that the place he worked for was just another 'world domination' group (a cliche), he killed his best friend for nothing and he noticed he was crying for the death of his daughter for nothing. Bottom line, he was pissed.
(plus, he stopped from making Third Echelon just another group who uses war an excuse why they say 'America must stop wars' or 'a war to end all wars', or 'This world must be controlled because it is too complicated and chaotic' ... to be fair, they are right but the actions how they execute this is wrong)
Oh, if i hear one more thing about Splinter Cell is better than MGS, leave. Just leave. And respect your elders (you know what i'm talking about)

I only wish they kept Michael Ironside as the voice of Sam and just a random guy doing the mocap... It would have given Blacklist a much better immersion, more empathy to the story. I just loved the intensity they delivered with the story of Conviction, you just got even closer to Sam, and Ironside provided the best of his performance in that game and that whole unfolded story got a bit thrown away by stepping him down as a voiceactor for Blacklist.
My favorite series! Nice countdown man!

My personal favorite moment out of every game was in Conviction when Sam learned the truth about Sarah in Grim's office. From the echo of Sarah's voice as a child, to the great use of Building Steam with a Grain of Salt playing in the background, and how Sam got so overcome wit' fury that the recordings started to sound warped. That whole scene made the hairs on my arms stand up. Still just as dope as the first time I saw it. Best moment of all time.

The introduction of Double Agent... at the end of Iceland, where Lambert tells Sam that her daughter is dead, and the cutscenes that shows Sam falling down... is one of my favorite Splinter Cell moments.
Conviction itself is full of great moments.

the first non-memorable moment that didn't make the top of the list (the ND133 scene) was what Sam did a lot in the novels. He just finished his objectives but let the authorities play a part in the clean-up of his missions. That's the real mark of a Ghost Splinter Cell.

Ah, this brings a tear to my eye. I remember the days when even Hideo Kojima was a bit worried about Splinter Cell beating him at his own game, referencing the franchise in MGS trailers. Boy, has this gone downhill for the last ten years. But these games were real blockbusters back then. They were huge.

Choas Theory was a masterpiece for its slow pace and the way you could complete the side missions and the different ways you could take on eniemes, Conviction was a goood turning point and a great way to introduce a different and dark Sam, Blacklist was a great way to try and bring back some of that stealth element, Splinter Cell S.A.R. was the hardest fucking piece of shit ive ever played ( I loved it but it was so hard ) and Pandora Tomorrow was equally fucking difficult but it introduced a new multiplayer mode that was so fun and cool to play with your friends.

I did find the game awesome but lack of technical advancement in my family and a little of that in my area, I didn't even knew there was a console version of this game and the series went further on. But I'll try this definitely when I get a console or a PC. Also I heard they've made a TV adaptation or movie related to this series, have you seen it ? What were your thoughts about that ?

One thing they need to bring back in the next game is the *DANG* piano sound whenever somebody notices you, followed by music. If the wave missions similar to the Charlie side missions return, the music however should stay as it is in Blacklist because it gets quite annoying if the piano sound constantly gets spammed

Loved your list. Number 5 was horrifying and is memorable for that factor infamously so. Honorable Mentions I like about the series: (10) Anytime you successfully lore a guard or a group of guards into a wall mine trap (9) The Oil Rig mission SC 1 because it was very differently paced than rest of game and not till Conviction do we see this kind of pacing. Plus it was a good challenge stealth wise too. (8) Anytime you took out two guys with one sniper round was an accomplishment (7) In Conviction when you cleared a room of guys Sam would say comments like "Sloppy" or "Close" if he nearly died, but if Sam clears a room of guys is not spotted or injured he will say stuff like, "Guess the training paid off" or "All done." (6) Chaos Theory as a whole really is the best in the franchise, well balanced and polished the entire series' mechanics, plus story is good. My Favorite mission is the bank mission, for two reasons: you get several insertion points and these change gameplay, in court yard if you turn lights out with the switch Sam makes a menacing comment, if you look in the bank president's office there is a safe behind a picture on the wall which can be hacked revealing a gold brick which makes a good distraction for guards, and of course blowing up the bank vault is fun! (5) Lock Picking! Because it really defined this series and though it so tedious it reminds us: Sam is breaking into someplace to get data for national security purposes. A locked door though tedious and minor is where espionage begins at a novice level. (4) In Conviction anytime Sam bashes a human shield's head into a wall and makes a comment (ie "Face meet wall, wall this is a face.") (3) I liked the split jump and acrobatics of SC1-3 Next gen double agent had it but they were not really a big part of gameplay in the Next Gen Double Agent. (2) Double Agent on PS2 had a way better story developed for Sam than the Next Gen Double Agent. It plays like an even more polished version of Chaos Theory. Honestly if you never played it on PS2 or Xbox Original get an emulated version online if you dont have a copy. Way better on PS2 gameplay wise and story wise. (1) In SC1 on PC using all the cheats on repeat playthroughs for fun and even the secret area in the training level where you start. You turn to left of where Sam is standing, do acrobatic wall jump grab, type in code (on most gaming sites with cheats for this game) and when the door opens you can go into an office to have a conversation with Grim. It is very good conversation and if you knock her out Lambert fires Sam. Complete with a mission fail if you successfully knock her out cold. :-) Happy Gaming

  • @Duspende
    @Duspende 9 лет назад +25

CT and Double Agent were definitely the best in the series for me. Conviction ruined it for me by taking away the consideration. You have to admit that there were never any REAL enemies in Conviction. You can literally sprint through the map, shooting everybody in the chest to give you just enough time to KO them.
In fact, I did a whole playthrough like that. Just running through the missions and using melee and occasionally shooting somebody in the chest while I was running at them to give myself more time to reach them before they gunned me down.
Chaos Theory and Double Agent were the best of both old school stealth and slow-paced action, while ConViction took away all the ancestry and heritage, and instead just made it cater to the lowest common denominator. Splinter Cell wasn't meant to be for everyone, but now it is.
That's why Ironside left. I know. "He left because they found a younger actor who could do motion capture as well!" But he was actually already leaving during Conviction because he didn't like the new direction. Only a good amount of money and some lies made him come back.
