Michael Ironside gives a little insight on what makes Sam Fisher tick, as well as his thoughts on what he brought to the character through voicing the role.
"Fisher, you don't even exist. You won't get any medals for this" "Medals don't help me sleep at night, Lambert." That line alone encompasses his entire character.
I have unlimited respect for Michael Ironside. He doesn`t just bring a voice to his character, he brings them to life. It`s important to him that he knows he`s voicing a person, not just reading some lines
The one thing that strikes me about Chaos Theory's Sam Fisher was his decisions of doing personal things that he didn't have to do, things that were not mission objectives. In Lighthouse, you could choose to cut down the tortured guy. And in the Korea mission you had the option of extracting the pilots out of the air strike zone. It really was more fun to play a character like that. Now, in Blacklist, it felt like Sam was more like a G.I. Joe character...
I went from playing Chaos Theory to Blacklist and said...."What the FUCK is this??!!!" ...I mean the graphics and gameplay are top but the character is so NOT the Splinter Cell I wanted, totally ruined they changed it completely. Chaos Theory was awesome if they made a game like that with the graphics and engine of the new one, oh hell yeah.
Dont forget that moment in Pandora Tomorrow, where they suddenly ask Fisher to shoot, the women, i forget her name. And you can choose not to do. in which Sam will reply. Im gonna need a little more warning, before shooting an unarmed woman.
Sam McSamfin it's when people that know and have shaped the character leave. You heard what he said here, he pretty much moulded the character to what he wanted rather than the average Joe Ubisoft wanted back in the day.
My favorite game of all time. And his voice always gives me the chills. What's sad is that in Conviction and Blacklist Sam Fisher turns into what Ironside said he doesn't want him to be.
Draka Shrakenburg Productions honestly it ain’t bad at all it feels smooth and fast pace but still satisfying stealth just dam I wish Michael coulda been the voice actor but I’m glad he was treated well since he had cancer at the time
Games now are catered to the largest demographic. You notice with the splinter Cell series and most AAA games the difficulty gets easier as they try to cater to larger audiences as times gone on. Chaos theory in my opinion is the best splinter Cell as it has the best stealth mechanics and is very difficult like most older titles. But now AAA games avoid being too difficult and have to be jack of all trades so stealth games like chaos theory are pretty much never going to be made. Knowing ubisoft a new splinter Cell would just be an open world assassins creed reskin. Maybe we see a remaster of the original trilogy some day.
I didn't even play blacklist when I heard they switched voice actors. Ironside really made Fisher who he was and I loved the character. Gameplay was fun, but I played Splinter Cell because of the atmosphere and a huge part of that was Sam Fisher.
The mechanics and layout of Blacklist are nice but they tried to make it more action oriented like it was an episode of 24 and they tried to make Sam Fisher into Jack Bauer.
Exactly! Conviction was alright, only because we knew if Sam's personally life was ever threatened he'd beyond the word angry and Michael knew Sam so well that he played it off so good. Making Sam authentic. I think your comment is just so amazingly accurate. Thumbs up.
It saddens me that Michael Ironside no longer plays Sam Fishes. We've come to love his voice and frankly without it the character is not the same, we no longer have Sam Fisher, we have generic-grumpy-action-hero #84. Then again, I suppose it's fitting since the games started to cater toward the zero patience 14 year old audience by slowly stripping away the stealth core and replacing it with more and more boring action mechanics. The Splinter Cell we came to love is no more, and it's a shame.
My thoughts on the new game Blacklist is mixed, gameplay wise its great. Action and stealth blended pretty well, and stealth is more of an emphasis again unlike Conviction while an awesome game, they focused more on a "rogue agent" play style on the design which is taking out enemies in the shadows like The Predator. As for the story and voice acting? Its lame. A teenage military aficionado could've written the whole plot, and the guy failed to win me over as the new Sam Fisher. He was a young dude trying real hard to play an old veteran. They have successfully made Sam Fisher uninteresting.
The first Splinter Cell game blew my mind, Ironside was also one of my favorite actors growing up, he seemed to be in everything I liked, V, TopGun, Total Recall etc. His voice was instantly recognisable playing for the first time back in 2003(ish). It makes the character for real when it's voiced by an actor you know of. Splinter Cell is probably my favorite game, especially on the PS2 platform because of Michael Ironside.
Even if Sam is behind enemy lines, infiltrating an enemy complex with 30+ guards, his voice just calms my nerves and makes me think "You know what Sam, your never afraid, and neither will I be" he made me a better (stealth) player because he had such realistic confidence to him.
God, Ironside just knows how this character works and the fact they didn't want to listen to him enough to replace him is just so aggravating. I'm glad he's back, but after seeing Ubisoft as of late, I really don't want a new Splinter Cell game. If they make a new SC game I want it done right, focusing entirely on stealth and punish gung ho gameplay while encouraging stealth, not the bullshit hybrid "play how you want" that Conviction and BL tried to do. I don't want an action movie, I want a grounded military stealth op game. We've already seen every Tom Clancy game lose its identity. R6 becoming a MP focused competitive game that has as much to do with counter terrorism as Ela's green hair and stretchy yoga pants has in common with a real military unit, or Ghost Recon becoming a generic open world shooter. SC lost some of it's identity in the past but it's taken such a long break the palette is cleansed. I'd even go as far as say let them do remasters of the old games, real remasters: no gameplay touches but a good graphic overhaul. That way they can see how hyped people would be as well as hopefully see what made those games so popular in the first place. It's been so long since a good, traditional stealth action game has been released. Last one was MGS5, and that's also not exactly the route I want Splinter Cell in anyway. I want my big maps with a set of objects in that I can sneak around and get done, them extract. Not open world... Just big levels to explore. Think places like Displace or Hokaido in Chaos Theory, or even the linear missions like the Embassy in Pandora Tomorrow.
He is really the reason Sam was so interesting in the Splinter Cell games before Blacklist. He made him more human and didn't want a generic two dimensional hero. And once he left, Ubisoft did crappy Blacklist and butchered Sam's character completely & made him exactly how he didn't want him to be
I never watched any movies that ironside was cast, until last week or so i my mom was watching the original top gun. I was minding my business then i heard sam's voice and i was like woooooooa wait a minute
great then u ca help me, is it good, and is it good, i really enjoyed double agent for ps2, is it good for xbox 360/ ps3, and is there offline multiplayer, like if i wanted to play with my brother, and last thing, is the game and the missions good, is it worth getting, please tell me, thanls!
Seems quite nice of Ubisoft to let Michael put his own "take" on the character as it were. Michael clearly wanted there to be more depth to Sam than some a-typical Special Forces guy. That's how you make something a success in a narrative; give the characters depth and meaning. Give them facets that people can understand or relate to. I've quite enjoyed reading the Splinter Cell novels a few years ago too, they bring more depth to who Sam is with parts of the story that touch on his private life when he's not on missions.
Ironside is an authority when it comes to acting, ubisoft would be crazy to refuse his take on Sam Fisher, we can clearly see how much he enjoys his work while making sure everything falls into place
This dude should be cloned..Michael's voice is legendary. Even as a kid I was noticing his charisma in the original *'V'* series from 1980's..Michael playing (Ham Tyler) 2021 Splintercell for PS5/XsetiesX pleaseeeeee
His voice is just awesome. You need a bad ass voice for a bad ass character. Michael is such a talented man and has done so much in the entertainment industry.
Kobin's Mansion, the Airfield, White Box, 3rd Echelon, the White House, levels where if you went loud you were practically dead, you needed to remain out of sight, maybe taking out one or two guards with hand-to-hand. But stealth wasn't thrown out, you could get through entire levels without killing anyone or alerting anyone, it's possible. Conviction introduced me to Splinter Cell, and I went back and played the first three but Conviction was a different story, it's more personal.
WAIT A SECOND HE DID DO BATMAN!! Theres an epsd. in the Batman Animated Series where it begins with three kids expressing their admiration for the Dark Knight! they each tell a story showing how they feel Batman really is. (each paying homage to 3 different Batman storylines that were popular in comics) When the girl w/ glasses tells her story(an homage to a badass Batman comic "The Dark Knight Returns" by Frank Miller) Batman is beefed up with the badass voice of Michael Ironside, a must watch!
yup, you are right, to tell the truth, i've never even touched a metal gear solid game, but after medal gear solid 4 is out, i will acutally get the chance to play it, but before that happens, i m getting double agent for ps3, it looks amazing, I just love the Splinter Cell series, the music is sick, the graphics are good, the characters are the best, and the gameplay, well its gonna take me some time to figure out some words to describe how good it is, this series rocks!!
ironside could be ripping out your spine and i believe youd still be relaxed by his voice lol musta been awesome being his kid having him read stories lol
I looked on a reputable website and It shows that he is doing the voice for Fisher. It says its rumored but I watched a gameplay vid of Conviction and it sounded like him so I'm pretty sure Ironside shall return.
"Fisher, you don't even exist. You won't get any medals for this"
"Medals don't help me sleep at night, Lambert."
That line alone encompasses his entire character.
Sam Fisher's body count is well over 500
@@jibrankhantareen7300 part of the job i guess
@@Alfei22 im talking about the part where he thought he lost his daughter. he went insane for a bit. those 500 bodies
Damn right. Ironside really gave Sam Fisher a life, for showing that even a Game character has morals and thoughts.
@@jibrankhantareen7300 Ubisoft went off the rails with Conviction, might as well not be cannon.
I have unlimited respect for Michael Ironside. He doesn`t just bring a voice to his character, he brings them to life. It`s important to him that he knows he`s voicing a person, not just reading some lines
Like Keith David
BRING THE LEGEND BACK!
yes but only with a true Splinter Cell game...
Ikr, Blacklist wasn't SC anymore. Conviction was even worst but at least we had Michael

new teaser. Ironside voicing...
Your prayers have been answered.
Just came from the trailer.
"You know Lambert, shooting an unarmed woman sounds an awful lot like terrorism."
In this new cutscene in Ghost Recon Wildlands Fisher voiced again by Michael Ironside has more heart and subtle nuance than in the whole Blacklist.
Black List is a perfect game
Sam Fisher stopped existing when Ironside left, is what I think.
Sam McSamfin it's when people that know and have shaped the character leave. You heard what he said here, he pretty much moulded the character to what he wanted rather than the average Joe Ubisoft wanted back in the day.
Truly this man has done some of the most incredible voice acting of all time.
"There was this other guy, army infiltration, wore a bandana."
"I heard he retired"
"Really...it's only me"
Michael Ironside is an amazing Actor.
Can't think of a single other person to play Sam Fisher. If I hear Mr. Ironside in real life, I'll make sure to tell him how awesome he is!
My favorite game of all time. And his voice always gives me the chills.
What's sad is that in Conviction and Blacklist Sam Fisher turns into what Ironside said he doesn't want him to be.
2019, and Chaos Theory is still the best stealth game ever!!!!
Perfection
@@HOUSEMDSB7 this made me smile
Chaos theory and Deus Ex. Greatest masterpieces
Hell I’d say those games gave metal gear a run for their money!
I dunno, the Bathhouse Level was a traumatic experience for me.
This guy's voice is a legend among legends of voice actors. His voice is on my list along with Peter Cullen, Don LaFontaine and James Earl Jones!
Best performance by an actor in a video game, no question.
Sam Fisher.... greatest video game character ever.
Thanks
Sam Fisher and Ezio are greatest legends
And there they go in Blacklist making him flat and two-dimensional.
Ironside wasn’t there to save it unfortunately due to being diagnosed with cancer which we didn’t know at the time or with trailers.
Blacklist wasn't bad though
Draka Shrakenburg Productions honestly it ain’t bad at all it feels smooth and fast pace but still satisfying stealth just dam I wish Michael coulda been the voice actor but I’m glad he was treated well since he had cancer at the time
It's ok if they changed Sam's voice
We don't want Ironside to die right?
So It's better Ironside take care his health first am I right?

PLAY GHOST RECOND BREAKPOINT! Ironsides back !
He just took a break due to cancer
the best voice i've ever heard. It'sdeep, crisp, and threatening.
Legendary voice.when I hear the voice of Micheal Ironside I get in to character of Sam fisher
No one could play Sam Fisher better he made the character well done!

Im Sam Fisher, I use to work here.

Just like Mark Hamill, Michael Ironside is one of the BEST voice actors in the industry.
he really is iconic
Good Interview
i could listen to a conversation between sam fisher and orson welles all day!

Might have to pick it up then. Thanks for the info!
His talking voice and Sam's voice was a huge different, that adorable a true professional actor, I think he would play Batman animated voice damn well
He actually did in the past
ohh maaan Ghost recon brought so many memories. and the way the mission ended sounds like we may have another Splinter coming sometime
i thought it was him.
I was watching terminator salvation when he appeared and a knew I had recognized his voice.
we have to get a new splinter cell game with his personality and voice lines in the future , he is Sam Fisher
See ya at the party Richter!
Thanks for doing me Ironside

This man is an absolute hero
15 years holy time flies
I love Splinter Cell serie, i hope there will be more, and i hope Micheal never leaves Sam Fisher :D
Michael Ironside make Sam Fisher come alive
He is Sam Fishee
There was supposed to be a full length feature film ten years ago. Getting an animated one with Ironside as the voice actor would be so great.
I love Michael Ironside for what he did with Sam Fisher
Too good too good. Made my day.

One of my favorite actors :P
@eddiemoon Yeah, youa re correct. I still remember that line when he drops out of the Batmobile "Alright, son. Show me !"

You will always be Sam Fisher
Those are the exact words I had in mind.
cant beeeeee! Wooow! This is awesome! And in Conviction is the same voice maker?
No problem, glad I could help.

He was also the general in the submarine in Terminator: Salvation if im not mistaken...
I am totally with you. If they are going to remove Ironside they should have remove Sam Fisher as well.
YES DO IT PLEASE!!! =]
Ironside left Splinter Cell, as blacklist seems to be the last one.
just like David left Metal Gear, as Phantom Pain is the last one.

why didn't they use that animation at 1:17 in double agent? it looked awesome
Wow. never though about this....Very interesting
no man can voice same fisher like ironside

I loved the part on the first splinter cell was like omg it's him and sam is like omg who's that? on the Chinese embassy level
Ghost Recon Wildlands...
Welcome back, buddy \m/
I was quite taken back when he was cast in Terminator Salvation... a really poles apart role (even though only voiced in Splinter Cell).
