  • The review for the SteelDive SD1972. The usual budget friendly from SteelDive, built well enough with a couple of small issues.

For the price you really can't go wrong with a steeldive. Excellent review.

Thanks for the comprehensive review of this one, don't think anyone else has done it.
The handset is too short imo, looks like a straight lift from the sd1970, which has a minute track on the dial and the indices more inboard on the dial, as you know :).
The turtle hand version looks better for me.
    Keep them coming.....

I just bought one with the blue dial and stainless bracelet from AliExpress. $104.58 with taxes and a small discount applied. It is en route, the later model with the Turtle hands, and I'd like to thank you for the review. If my watch is as good as your review, I'll be very pleased. It would be nice if Steeldive made some exhibition screw-down backs as an accessory, but the value is very high if the watch lives up to this review. You're right I think it's going to be a strap monster and the first one I'm going to buy is a vintage NATO.
I adore the Seiko Tuna and the Willard and I hope to own them some day, but right now the money situation allows me this. Steeldive does a laudable thing with this watch: it in no way diminishes my appreciation for the Seikos and I'm saving my pennies. But for barely over $100 at least I can satisfy a bit of the craving. Does the provenance bother me a little? Yes, but at least it does have a Seiko movement and the craftsmanship seems to be very good.

Bracelet is easier to adjust than the Seiko pin and collar. Clasp about the same as the Seiko. I got one of these in green today. Cost about $129 and a different color than the King Turtle models. Got a black tuna on engineer bracelet yesterday. Not gotten a bad Steeldive yet. Good review.

    My take on this watch:
    I accidentally received a V2 SD1972.
A friend of mine asked me to order an SD 1970 day/date.
I received my package from Steeldive this week, and they made a mistake in sending me the SD1972 V2.
I was actually pleasantly surprised with how good the watch looks.
I’ve handled many SD1970 watches, and a couple of Submariner homages, and although they are good looking watches for the money, I did not connect with them.
I have owned a couple of original Seiko Turtle watches, the Pepsi and the Batman version, so I am familiar with this good looking, comfortable design.
Quite honestly, this Steeldive looks way better than my original Turtles.
The dial colour, markers, ceramic insert really make this watch pop, it is a joy to look at, and looks way more expensive than its price tag.
Polishing, brushing, the fine engraving, it all looks very good.
Added bonus: it seems to me that Steeldive actually bothers with regulating the movements, something Seiko obviously just skips.
It is currently running spot on after 5 days of use, quite impressive.
    Now for the bad part:
-The lume is impressive, but the hands are weaker than the markers, which are exceptionally strong, they are comparable with the Seiko Sumo gen2 I used to own, you can see them shine even in daylight!
-The bezel action indeed is very noisy. It seems that they didn’t use a rubber ring to soften the action, like Seiko does.
-Biggest letdown is the alignment of the “6” and “9” markers.
They are both badly positioned. The first one leaning to the left, the second one sloping down towards the centre.
This is the first time I see such a misalignment on a Steeldive watch, it is a pity.
Actually it seems that the watch in the video has an alignment issue with the 9 o’clock marker too..
TIP: You can get a nice solid link jubilee bracelet on Ali Express for around 20€.
I have owned it in the past on an original Turtle, and it really adds a retro vibe.
I might try it on the Steeldive, I hope it fits well.

I ordered the watch, as soon you mentioned them in the sales video. Steeldive is about to kill the watch game a little bit, hey but who gives a damn. I can assure everybody the watch is a stunner. For the price you pay you get alot of watch. Yes there are a few little issues, but I like the quality really much all around. On my watch the mag. glass is not aligned very well. But I must say, over all the watch is quality made. The movement everybody knows NH35/36 works, so you wont have troubles with that.
Enough said about a Seiko homage, hey did you hear about the revival of the Citizen dive watches from back in time? We will get a KILLA, with the inhouse movement 9051. I cant wait to get my hands on that. great work, keep it up.

Great view my man. I always go to your channel for Ali express reviews. I have two 1970’s already. Black and green. Now I think I’m ordering a blue 1972. U can’t beat them for the price. Wearing my king turtle now that cost me 480. It’s NO better than my steel dives. Maybe u can’t check out the pagani turtle homage. I have one sitting in my cart…. Help lol

prices of Steel Dives raised noticable... - dont like the use of "dresswatch" hands for this heavy tool watch. Own the other three non cyclops, just date Willard homages. Out a unknown reason got PT5000 movements instead the ordered NH35, but I'm absolutely happy wearing my three bad boys. The PT5000 "high beater" are well build in, running unbelievable exactly. Wonder about the quality got for less than 100 bucks. The simple clasp isn't disturbing - even if so, it works in a perfect way and already forgot about before you mentioned... - the blue sun burst dial is my absolutely favorite, followed by the blacky... - looking at the green one often let me think there was already sunset when producing the dials... it's missing the fire of the blue one... - lets say its more "stealthburst" instead sunburst :D

I just got mine. Bezel insert is not aligned, and bezel action is worse then pretty much any watch I own. Horrible, it feels like cogs grinding.
Magnifier is perfectly aligned, thats a plus.
I dont think its worth the extra 50-60% over the 1970.

Good review as always 👍 . I have just ordered a Turtle homage, the Steeldive is great value, but I preferred the stainless Heimdallr version which is £20 more, because I prefer the date only dial, no Cyclops, better hands/clasp and I much prefer the shark to the SD logo.

I received the SD1972 a couple of days ago, and mine has the correct Turtle handset instead of the SD1970 hands..

So apparently they switched to the proper hands on on the second version.

Nice review! Most AliExpress seiko homage watches have the crown position at 4:00 or just past 4. This one however seems to have its crown position at what watch modders would call the 3:45 or 3.8 position. Am I right?
