  • I picked up a slim turtle homage during the Aliexpress 11/11 sale and I thought I would share my first impressions. All in all, a pretty decent value for the money!

    I'm waiting for a replacement Steeldive Willard. The first one flew off my wrist and was damaged when it hit the floor. My point is- Be cautious about rubber straps and bumping the watch on a door jam or some such. If the watch head gets torqued the rubber strap grabs the spring bars, which can be compressed as the rubber pulls on the compressible pin end. Test your band and pin combination for this design susceptibility by holding the watch head in one hand and the open strap in the other. Then force the strap back then forth in the horizontal plane of the watch head. If you can't get the band to let go, you're golden.

    Great review. I love your channel. One observation, though. I thought that you referred to the Willard as an homage to the Seiko 6309. However, I believe Steeldive's Willard is an homage to the Seiko 6105-8110. I could be wrong.

    I have the Steeldive Willard in blue. Amazing watch! I purchased it for $65 during an 11/11 sale. It is a little big, but wears smaller due to the 48mm lug to lug. I also have the Heimdallr SKX homage with a sapphire crystal, NH-35, and a jubilee bracelet with solid end links. Super value at $49 shipped during a sale. The only problem with the watch was super sharp lower edges of the crown guards. It hurt to wear the watch. I filed the edged down and now it wears like a dream. Great start to your watch channel!

    Hi Ed,
    Enjoyed your video. I also have a collection of watches for the 'common' man. I have a few heimdallr watches which are great. The bezel action is sharp but I think it sounds too snappy. I prefer the feel and sound of the seiko bezel even if it's not as accurate.
    Looking forward to your further videos.

    Have a green one in hand and a blue one in transit. May order the black one after the blue one arrives. Really like the smaller size vs. the 6105 and Turtle. Mine are on really nice bracelets for $135 each. Good review.

    Hi there, good work with your new channel! I have the green version, has been a great watch so far, and in the last Ali sale picked up the Pagani Speedmaster homage, very attractive watch, but a little sharp on the edges! best wishes for your channel, have fun!

    Bought my SD1970 Willard for $88 (just shy of $100, all expenses). It is a tank & my favorite non-quartz go-to beater. Connot recommend highly enough, to anyone who wants to get into watches or just wants a Willard-adjacent

    I subscribed because I could see you're going to put out quality productions. Watch looks great. It's crazy they're putting out sapphire, ceramic, and NH35s in a $100 watch. It'd be a great mod project. However, I don't think you mentioned the height of the watch..whatever. Great job

      Considering this watch comes with a fitting steel bracelet it does actually make it appealing to mod. There are some aftermarket cases on Ali and elsewhere, some offer the 3.8 crown position versus the 4.1 you'd find on this. The aftermarket bracelets steel bracelets would actually be the most expensive part of the modification process unless you'd want to put it on a NATO.
      Unfortunately you wouldn't be able to put an OEM dial from the original slim turtle unless you somehow find a date disc for it. A willard dial would work though, if you could make a baby Willard if you wanted 😜.

    How is this size-wise compared to their Willard watch?

    • @justmeandthewatch
      @justmeandthewatch  Год назад

      It is narrower across the case by a couple of millimeters but the lugs are longer so it actually feels bigger than the willard on my wrist.
