I’m proud to wear my Steeldive 1970 Captain Willard. If Seiko had a problem with it, they wouldn’t sell the parts to them to assemble. It’s basically a Seiko.
I've had my black version a week. Being a Chinese homage I was trying too hard to find fault with it but there's hardly anything to complain about and for what you pay it's a really lovely watch. I bought mine from Longfield who throw in a few extra straps but I currently have it on a strapcode super engineer and as a result it feels heavy and way more expensive than it actually is. I'm a bit of a watch enthusiast but not a Seiko fanboy so didn't know about the 6105 and the story surrounding it so the homage thing doesn't even come into it for me as it's not as instantly recognisable as something like a submariner. I've had it on since I bought it and swapped to my Oris TT1 diver today but I went back to the Steeldive this evening, it's that good.
I ordered one of those bronze ones a month ago and am super excited to receive it. I am wondering if the dial is black or gray...? Are the hands to golden?
I’ve just bought the black sterile dialled version and it’s great! It’s got a 1ms beat error but it’s running at +3 seconds per day, so I’m not going to bother adjusting it.
Different, informative, honest and entertaining review added to which I think the exciting funky logo would make an awesome tattoo for any scuba diver! 😉

Got mine from AliExpress on 6 October 2021 with a green tropic strap for £71. It seems to have clear AR coating. The lume is outrageous! So far it's keeping -4 sec/day. Only gripe is that the date wheel is a bit too far to the left of the frame. Otherwise, it's incredible value for money. Thanks for this review. Stay well, everyone!
I’ve got one of these I put mine onto a bund. Worked well. The only issue with mine is the 6 o’clock marker is a nats out .there are discount codes doing the rounds for these 5 er off normally
I love my blue SD1970. Also have some older Pagani Design models with the NH35 movements but they are now using non hacking Miyota movements. Their chronograph models with the Seiko VK63 mechaquartz movement are nice. I also have a San Martin 6105 that cost twice as much as the Steeldive. Great value with these Chinese micro brands. Good review.
Homage I don't care either! Love your honest take! I waited for the 11.11 sale on Ali-Ex and at around 108 USD shipped with the specs, this is a no brainer. I always wanted to try out the Willard and an homage is the best choice when I don't have 1k in my petty cash to spend on a watch lol. I have the black on order. I expect this to be my Xmas watch because shipping from China/HK. I haven't ordered anything from overseas lately so I cannot say but the site says estimated delivery is Dec 14 and now is of course Nov 11. But back to your initial impressions. I am so interested based on them! Of all the reviews I have seen so far, all have been pretty much positive.
When did you end up getting the watch? Planning on ordering one on 11.11 as well and would like to get an idea of how long it takes on average. Thank you!
Cant wait to get mine ,just ordered from aliexpress 11/11 sale £85, just have to wait a little longer for delivery,bought loads off aliexpress without any major issues ,so fingers crossed on this one.Great review by the way ,i've upped your sub by one.
I was thinking about a Seiko turtle for a holiday watch and thankfully I came across steeldive UK, I bought the sd1970 a few months ago and I can't fault it, a great little watch.
I had the seiko re issue and returned it because of a mis alignment issue amongst a few other things Bought the steeldive Willard and put it on a waffle strap, it’s fantastic, your right the steel bracelet was not good
Sterile SD1970 en route as we speak from AliExpress and an Uncle Seiko Tropic strap ready to intercept! End of the month should have a pretty sweet combo
That green is different from the Steeldive Tuna, isn't it? I want a green one but the Tuna one is like an electric green that I don't really like. This one looks like a flat colour.
Great review, what a relief when you said the extra weight was in the heavy metal strap. I've got 2 of these watches, green and black. Because of the weight (too heavy) I haven't worn them much. I've ordered a green strap with the hope that it'll improve things. I do like the look of the metal strap though 👍
Question: I just received a Steeldive 6105 from AliExpress and I love it but I went to exchange the metal bracelet for a silicone strap. I noticed that the holes in the case were very shallow so that when I was able to put the strap on I could tug it off with a bit of force but it did pop off. Has anyone had that problem?
Bit of a late reply here, but have only just watched this review - I have 2 other Steeldives, the SD1978 Emperor Tuna & SD1969 Proplof, I had the same problem with the straps popping off, so I ordered 23mm steel pins to replace the 22mm - a lot better quality and solved the problem, hope this helps.
You can order a milled clasp on aliexpress for a couple bucks. Im not a fan of steeldives rubber straps. There is no tapper to them and the design isnt appealing to me.

I've had mine a bout 3 months and absolutely love it... I changed the as the steeldive strap is rubbish.
I own a couple of Rolex watches and i bought one of these for a laugh. When it arrived, "i was blown away" It looks and feels great.

Does the bracelet taper at the clasp or is it 20mm all around ?
It tapers slightly, I’m doing an update video on this watch tomorrow including the bracelet so watch this space.

Nothing screams class like a watch that comes in a plastic bag. 😂

The arnie is classic and I got the steedive Willard and it’s great quality for the price. The reissue is way overpriced.
