I bought a Steel Dive as I was so curious .... ended up with 2 more !!!!
I don't understand Seiko reissuing this watches with ridiculously overpriced and quality control issues. Originally this watches are made as affordable tool watches with good quality which seiko became known for. At the moment, IMO, the micro brands are taking over at this level with better quality control than seiko ever had at this price point. Beautiful watches, thank you for the review
I agree with you JB. The reissue is going to be over priced with essentially the same specs as this watch.
i totally agree, as a watch enthousiast i always want to stay away from china brands to be honest. i dont mind saving up for my timepiece. but with the prices now going to 1000 for not even that special of a watch, i think is just rediculous. People loved the fact that they could own a premium watch for a decent price around 200/300 dollars. now i will look into these micro brands more and more. they do it to themselves.
Some years ago Omega were hovering around the £1000 mark with a Speedmaster automatic at £800. The management decided to hike their prices quite significantly to pull the brand up to near Rolex levels (at the time) and it worked, Omegas went up in price for new ones and even existing ones rose disproportionately over time. I think Seiko are doing the same, increasing prices simply to enhance the image of the company. Micro brands are the way forward as they can provide really good watches at far more realistic prices. I just wish some of them were not of Chinese manufacture Malaysia or Singapore would be good sources of supply
Yes i think you're right in terms of price hike and this is what Seiko is doing.
This has also lead to 2nd market to follow suit. However, you can't get away from China, they manufacture and loving to every part of the world. Even in singapore/malaysia there will be some 2nd or 3rd teir parts coming in from China. Swiss made watches get parts from China and Seiko has also opened up a factory in China.
You've got to remember China is capable of producing very high quality items, it all depends on what you want to pay. Just look at their super clone replica's of high end watches, they are virtually indistinguishable which shows their capability
@@TheWatcherReviews also what people fail to realize is that all the best stuff is also made from China too. Everyone's super expensive phones come from China, technology manufacturing general is great in China. Maybe because they produce lots of cheaper stuff and fakes that they get a bad reputation. But they are very capable of producing high quality things too, and affordability.
We also need to not overlook that a lot of the microbrands are also having their products made out of China too. So you can't knock Chinese watches since you can essentially find the manufacturer and cut out the middlemen that the microbrands are.
I've got the newer version, bought from a UK Ebayer about a month ago for my birthday. I am over the moon with the watch and honestly I have had to force myself to rotate with some of my other (more expensive!) watches having worn it every day for a fortnight since it arrived. It's a helluva package all round, timekeeping has been amazing and again, way better than some of my more expensive and branded watches. Mine also came on the racing style silicon band which is perfectly decent but I have swopped it out to a more vintage looking waffle band. There's something about the dimesions of the watch that makes it supremely comfortable for me at least and it's going to take something pretty damn good to ever make me rest the watch. Thanks very for your great reviews which I found when I was researching what to buy for my birthday (actually, it was a present from my kids but they know I'm fussy about watches so I asked them to buy this for me).
Hi
Thanks for the great feedback and I'm glad you like the watch. I find the same problem, I find it hard to put down. Brilliant!
I will be getting some nice heimdallr's in soon, keep an eye out on my vids
Ditto - it will be difficult force myself to wear my 5KX instead of this watch.
Due to your recommendation i got this yesterday(the updated version). I must say its awesome watch, absolutely love it! No complaints. Thanks mate, keep up the hard work
Glad to hear you like it Alix
I've had mine for about two weeks now. I have the newer version on your video. I really have enjoyed this watch and has gotten a lot of wrist time. The build quality is AMAZING, given it's price point. I'm very happy with this watch. Anyone thinking about purchasing it should jump all over this! Your video, by the way, was extremely helpful, so thank you! Keep up the great work!👍
Its my next watch. Just got the Steeldive MarineMaster 1975 Tuna in blue. OMG - It pops out at you. Nice blue AR coating, dial and ceramic bezel have different colour lume. Extraordinary. Highly recommend.
Ordered one based on your review, hopefully I get the newer version! Thanks!
Took delivery of this watch today - and it was the upgraded version like the one you showed. So thanks for that - this watch is superb and the bezel action nice and smooth. Also I think it looks better than the other homage versions. Love this watch - waiting for a waffle strap to arrive to complete the homage! Thanks for the video which was very helpful.
which seller did you pick this up from ?
@@grifforama from ebay from "vjs-trading" - he seems to have these watches from China and sells them on - but he has nothing on ebay at the moment - but he was good to deal with and I had a follow up query which he answered. You may be best to go to AliExpress yourself and buy from them (China) - I have bought stuff from them and seem reliable, although it takes ages for the stuff to arrive. I assume when they say "shipping" it really must come by a slow boat from China - still waiting for some items after several weeks! This watch is worth the wait though.
@@garyshepherd9226 Thanks. I see plenty on ali-express, but I'm really looking for a no logo one with the updated crystal. Let's see what I manage to get hold of.
They are improving as they go along.
Outstanding breakdown of the subtle, almost unnoticeable, differences between the two lots of the same make/model. The changes all seemed like minor improvements so good deal for the consumers 🤷🏼
Got my👍 + sub, great content
Thank you for doing these reviews. I watched this one twice! I would have never known there were improvements or changes.
Hey Stuart, glad you enjoyed it. Yes Steeldive doesn't seem to let people know when they upgrade their watches! Lol
Arrived 2day with the upgrades u mentioned.Delighted with the watch.once again thanks for the heads up
Just received my Steeldive 6105! Wow! I am blown away! I really really like it! Great vid!
Yes, amazing watch. Join the hoard of Steeldive 6105 lovers
The Watcher yes! I have a proxima 300 on its way! Modding that with a marinemaster oem dial 👍🏻
The Watcher thanks to your video!! 😃👍🏻
Anytime Steve! Appreciate the support man
nice upgrade with the signed crown.I have their skx replica & thats just as good.Have a couple of these 6105's,the Tuna & the MM300 on order.I think I may have fallen down the proverbial steeldive rabbit hole :)....Thanks for the review
It is not a upgrade, it is a downgrade.....less lume, worse bezel and cheaper sapphire.....they know this watch is popular so they are sucking ppl in for giving ppl less...
I own the v2, and there is just too much AR coating on it. I replaced it with a flat, flush non-AR sapphire (32mm, 2mm thick): massive improvement, for me that is.
Just ordered the new version today as an anniversary present from my wife and its because of your review. I am a new subscriber to your channel
Keep up the good work. I will let you know what I think when it arrives next Wednesday.
Hi
Thanks for the support Neil and the Sub. I hope you enjoy the watch!
The newer version looks better imo even if the changes are subtle
Like I said the 6105 is amazing for the money! As much as I am all about made in the USA 🇺🇸 I can’t believe they can do it for this little amount of money 💰👍🏻
The modded version with the NOS 6105 dial is another great looking watch.
I just bought this from Alibaba for 78euro including delivery. I also asked them if it was the newer version because of this video, and they said it was. I thought it was a great deal.
How did you find dealing with Alibaba.com? I’m thinking 🤔 of buying one of these
@Ivan Jaros I'm in Ireland, I didn't pay any import taxes luckily. If I recall, the sellers marked the value at 10 dollars or something like that, on the package.
@@woosha10 sorry for late reply, I found it great, the shipping was way quicker than aliexpress. It was my first time using Alibaba. I can put link to where I bought it if you are interested
@Ivan Jaros Yes and i even got a coupon code to get a few dollars off that as well. Cant go wrong.
Nice. An affordable 6105 homage.
I own 2..1 bronze and one s/s green dial. The best deal I have ever seen in a watch. I am headed towards another bronze with blue dial.
Thanks for the great review.
Did it for me,and I bought one!
Can’t go wrong,for the money.
Great pickup in the details, I like the signed crown touch. On the list for me.
Its great that they are continuing to refine the watch. The beveled edge is more accurate to the original
Where do you purchase the watch?
Looks like they've upped their game a bit..love the blue ARC
Thanks for your videos and recommendation. I've had the newer Steeldive and swapped the supplied "Isofrane" style strap for a Waffle like yours. Looks very 1970 vintage and spectacular value for money. I really wasn't expecting it to be this good but your reviews are sharp and accurate so I trusted your opinions. I think the affordability makes it like the original. Very satisfied.
Thank you 👍🏼
Nice video I bought myself one as far as I'm concerned I put it on a level as my expensive one it actually keeps good time I've only had a week and not lost or gained 🙏❤️💯
I just received my steeldive captain willard homage from yourself. Thanks great watch.
Thank you for purchasing, hope you enjoy it 🤝🏼
Picked 1 up in the Ali-express sale for £82, just awaiting delivery, hope its the newer version as like the signed crown, AR coating and most of all the bigger coin edge bezel.
The older version is not available anymore, so they all should be coming through with the new versions
I just received my SD1970 that I ordered from AliExpress, and I have an Addiesdive version of the same watch that I bought a couple months ago. I noticed a difference as soon as I took the newer Steeldive out of the packaging. On first glance, I couldn't tell what those differences were, but something about it just seemed off (not in a bad way, though). The Steeldive has a firmer bezel action than the Addiesdive, as well the coin edge feels better and has more grip. And if you get the one with the stainless bracelet, the newer version has a milled clasp and six micro adjustment holes on the clasp as well.
Thanks for the videos. I bought a Steeldive during the AliExpress recent anniversery sale. I haven't received it yet, but suspect it will be the one on your left. Your videos are good and helpful. I also appreciate your video where you show the Steeldive with different straps.
Hi
Thanks Michael for the positive comms and please continue to support
I had 2 of these SD1970, green and blue dial. But they're have specifically few differences. Both crystal is tinted, but the differences are in index marker. The green one had a "pop up" index marker and the blue one had a flat index marker, but the blue one had a brighter index marker lume. The bezel also different, the green dial has a bigger bezel. It has an oversize area out of ring bezel and the blue one didnt have it. Both of it has a steeldive logo on the crown.
Damn it man just pulled the trigger on another watch, she’s gonna kill meeeeee...!
Worth dying for!
The new one appears to have better legibility.
Due to your review I now have the newer version. Love it
I just bought one. It will be interesting so see how it looks.
nice attention to detail dude!!
Thanks man 👍🏼
Tengo un STEEL FIVE 1970 es un Reloj extraordinario!
Cheers . . Pity about the new duller loom
My one is on the left at 6:18. I prefer the muted baton lume. Still bright though in the dark.
The original version looks more authentic IMO :)
Really like the new version and will be getting one soon.
If you're in the UK or Europe let me know, I should have some stock. If not, you can use aliexpress official store for steeldive and use 'WATCHER10' for a slight discount 👍🏼
@@TheWatcherReviews I'm in the UK, how much are you selling them for?
My new present to myself ASAP. I can't justify paying stupid prices for divers watches but for £100 you can't complain seiko are going to end up loosing sales because of their overpriced but these micro brands are a winner.
good video I just ordered the new one I love the way it looks. I paid $106 us which is a steel. If I bought a Seiko it would have cost me $500 dollars

@@TheWatcherReviews I will do that for you. Keep up the great work I love that you guys review all this stuff for us to look at. The one I bought comes with the silicone black strap with the little square holes in it. Is that band nice on that watch or do I need to order another black silicone strap ?? If so what do you recommend ?
@@wed265 that's the iso frane strap, its a bit big for smaller wrists.
I recommend a waffle strap or a nice leather strap
@@TheWatcherReviews my wrist is about 7 and 3/4. Now would that black silicone band with the squares on it look good on my wrist. Or do you still recommend the waffle silicone band ??
@@wed265 it will fit better but i still recommend a waffle strap.
You can use my affiliate link and search aliexpress
That exact one on that silicone strap is on its way to me...eventually. Ali Express is sure taking their sweet time!
I bought it one month ago, but in Spain the deliveries are suspended until May 15.
Great comparison! I prefer the newest because of the crown and the glass. However in the Aliexpress market the pictures show the old crown so I'm not sure if they still sell the "old" version or the new one.
It should be the new one, I bought these with the old pictures too
Well i just had to do it ,after hovering around the Pagani 007 and the Phylida (dreadful name) i decided to revisit this review you did ,and yes just pulled the trigger on this fab watch ,i just hope uts not going to ne too big at 43 mill
It wont be, its a great watch
Just ordered one. They look great and it's certainly one of the best designs ever. I hope I'm lucky, though... the QC for these watches is probably next to non-existent.
It isn't too bad, QC side. I've bought about 15 so far and the only actual defect I had was the stem was too short on a crown, I managed to repair with new stem but they were willing to replace watch and pay for postage back for the defect watch.
The only other thing is there is a slight variation between bezel action but that is across Seiko too.
You're right regarding the manufacturing side. Steeldive is an assembly operation as the factories that manufacture cases and dials are the same for most if not all suppliers.
@@TheWatcherReviews thanks for the info :) Looking forward to receiving the watch. And go kill Captain Kurtz.
Tough call.. I too like the older dial though the print on the new is more defined I do not know if that is so much of a plus. And the crystal sticking out and the altered bezel though more grippy I do not think fits the design much at all. Will ask seller if he has old stock left over..
..having schooled myself a little that crystal sitting proud is more how it is with to the original.. still don't like it that way though ^^ not hm practical.
Did you notice that the lume on the left is glossy in appearance? My newly bought SD1970 has that glossy lume compound too.
Great spotlight of the upgrades. Just sub’d...thanks for sharing.
I bought two of these and got one of each version. Aliexpress sent me the v1 and Alibaba sent me the v2
Aliexpress probably had old stock, alibaba new stock
Pukka watch. Thorough video, thanks
Can I flip an original Willard crystal into this possibly and use an original insert ????
Hi. Is there a capt Willard homage that are not using that blue AR coating? Ill buy one today if there is. Ill even buy used.. I don't like the blue hue at all.. Thanks in advance.
Tony..
Best to replace the crystal then with a 32mm no ar coated sapphire
Brilliant video! Maybe Seiko need to review their prices because these Chinese brands are catching up and all this for a fraction of the price.
I just asked the seller on Aliexpress about this as I wanted the bevelled edge sapphire, they sent images and they all had the bevelled edge. Still haven't pulled the trigger yet! Great comparison
I would have gone for the heimdallr just for the bevelled glass, but apparently the lume pip is huge
Get it on Alibaba instead of AliExpress. They will sell you a single watch at a substantially lower price. I paid just 83.00 usd after a 5.00 coupon for mine
@@jimg8887 how was your experience buying from alibaba, are you 100% satisfied with the watch you got?
@@Darklanza Alibaba was just fine. I purchased several and got shipping through dhl. My seller Judy shipped promptly and had great communication with me. The watches were great and I'm ordering more from her soon, I have my eye on the bronze models they carry.
I just recently purchased the new Seiko "King Turtle" and love the watch. After discovering the Steeldive turtle, I decided to buy one. Should have it in about a week and a half. I did purchase the Steeldive Tuna and absolutely love it. Alot of bang for the buck! So pulling the trigger on their Turtle version was a no brainer.
Is there a difference with the surround about the date being less on the newer watch?
Amazing comparison! thank you very much!, may be could be useful if you upload the serial numbers of the two watches, may be to acknowledge the production time-lapse. Cheers!
These watches dont have serial numbers
I'm wondering if you can help. I'm in need of a bronze willard case but with a true 4oclock crown not 4.2 like the steeldive. It's for a project that involves a seiko tuna solar movement which has a true 4oclock crown
One thing I have noticed whether it be the old or new version is the inability to recreate the refraction effect of the minute markers like the original Captain Willard has. Instead it seems, with the newer version especially, it captures the hour markers. I'm thinking it must be the incorrect angle of the chamfer on the sapphire crystal. I wonder if an aftermarket crystal may be able to give the desired effect. Thoughts? Nice comparison video and previous review too.
Hi
Yes you're right, you need a crystal like the skx007 which has a bigger chamfer. If you replace this crystal with a chamferd aftermarket crystal you will achieve the refraction effect. Plus this is slightly top hat so the chamfer is quite thin around the glass
The Watcher may need to order some crystals to see if this effect can be replicated as the original is beautiful. Oh well gives me a chance to play around with the new crystal press!
Appreciate it pal!
How does the straps compare? I assume the waffle strap is an aftermarket piece from Ali. Got mixed review about these waffles. Some smaller wrist sizes mentioned that is very long, too long.
Has the ladder strap enough holes on the smaller side to make it sit tight on a 6.5 inch wrist?
Atm I am making my Ali sale shopping list, straps are an good addition to come over the $50, $100, $150 mark to make use of coupons and having some extra straps around is always good as long the straps are good.
I have a 6.5" wrist and i find the strap perfectly fine (aliex waffle)
Nice comparison. I like the newer model. 😂
That’s a nice strap. Are you able to purchase them?
Which watch do you think is better, the Steeldive 6105 or the Heimdaller 6105 watches
I appreciate your advice
Richard
Hi Richard,
Personally i think the steeldive is better. There is 0 difference between them in quality. The heimdallr comes with coloured ceramic bezel inserts while the steeldive comes with a lumed ceramic. It just comes down to personal taste and budget. They are the same watch with same case
The Watcher
Thanks for your Help , I’m also looking at the Heimdaller submariner too, so not sure whether to buy two from Heimdaller or get the steel dive 6105
I appreciate your advice
Richard
@@Pathfinder-Sarawak the heimdallr submariner is really nice. Looks very impressive and one of the best homages out there
I like the crystal on the steeldive much better than the heimdallr. The heimdallr is slightly distorted at an angle. I want to buy an aftermarket sapphire crystal, what size will fit in the heimdallr? Thank you
32 mm by about 2.5/3mm thick
@@TheWatcherReviews so 32mm will fit? Great. Thank you
Hi, I have noticed the imperfections on the new steel dive case between the lugs. Is this normal, that it is not refined in that spot also on yours?
Thx
Hi Pavol, I believe those were just fingerprints which can be wiped off. I will have another look and confirm.
I think I like the more flush sapphire on version 1. But still I wish for that Seiko Lume, I would like to see a comparison video between a Seiko (any price point) and this homage.
I wonder about the bezel, what have they changed. One comment on another video about this watch said that the bezel got harder to turn after some water use.
If I got the balls I would try and remove the bezel and add some anti corrosion under, seems like wd40 specialist corrosion inhibitor is a great choice (watched a test video). But if I use the bezel I guess I wear it away.
Edit: Found a comparison video between lumes on different homages and two seikos tested together. It seemed like I don't have much to worry about. The steeldive was very good in that test (v1), but a different homage to another watch won.
Hey, thanks for the comms, i have a video where i compare seiko srp vs steeldive 6105. I wouldnt touch the bezel as i think its thin steel or aluminium, it will bend if you try to remove. You need to be very careful
@@TheWatcherReviews I do not know the name, I am thinking about that rotating metall, getting that out and have some corrosion inhibitor under.
Both very beautiful.I agree I prefer the first more vintage perhaps more like the original.I can ask you where you bought the first strap? Thanks
Hi, glad you liked the review. The strap was purchased from aliexpress, they do them in 20mm and 22mm
@@TheWatcherReviews thank you for your answer.
Really can't decide between this and the steeldive submariner homage.
Depends on what you like, if you like the sub look then go for that. However, the best looking homage sub is by heimdallr. Check it out, looks so much better.
For a classic Seiko look, choose this!
Brilliant video, I’m curious to know what one you prefer from the differences you mentioned, I’m going to buy one for sure but I don’t know if I want the ‘aged’ lume or the the newer one
Hi
I prefer the original even though I stated im my 1st ever video a couple of things like the AR coating and signed crown.
That maybe because I've had it for so long but saying that the response has been awesome from the customers. They can't get enough of this watch.
The slightly proud sapphire glass isn't for me but that's subjective and my preference.
Regarding the versions, you can only buy the newer version as far as I'm aware
The Watcher that is fair enough, I think I’ll pull the trigger on it as it seems to be an amazing price for the specs, thanks for the video

I was considering purchasing a new Seiko 6105 re-issue SPB151 with the 6R movement. But watching a couple of your video's on this watch, I am thinking that this will be a good alternative, considering the new 6105 re-issue will be well over $1000 USD. How do you find the accuracy of the NH35 movement? Keep up the great content.

Agreed Russell. Mt first steeldive was bought with a bracelet, but I opted for silicone straps. In fact, any strap other than a steel one, they look great. I particularly enjoyed it on a brown suede strap which gave the watch a different dynamic

Yes it will, cut the feet and use double-sided tape to stick. Just align it correctly first with the date window and use the case to judge if its on the correct date.
If you do buy a steeldive, use my affiliate link to alibaba and find the cheapest one 👍🏼
@@TheWatcherReviews will do, thanks for that
@@Crackity_Jones. I just completed one. Was fairly straight forward, didn't align the date window correctly so I had to take it off again.
If you get stuck, let me know
Can you remove the bezel on the newer version? If so is it the same way as SKX's and other seikos?
Yes im sure you can remove them. The mechanism on some of these homages differ as they have a retention ring placed in the bezel..I can only assume its the same as Seikos
Hi, thanks for the upload! can you tell me if the supplied rubber strap is comfortable and useful? looks kinda cheap compared to the waffle ones
Hi Mike,
Its a silicone strap, very comfy and useful. I believe they're known as iso frane straps
@@TheWatcherReviews thanks!
The original Seiko's had a flat black chapter ring just like these but it is not at all noticeable because Seiko used a crystal with a beveled edge that reflects the minute track from the dial giving the illusion of a chapter ring with minute marks, a really cool effect. You Steeldive watches show the flat black chapter ring and it just looks bad. The Bomb Frog and Tactical Frog crystals that are beveled more like the Seiko's and look much better in this respect. I really wish Heimdallr and Steel Dive would use the same original style crystals.
what to compare, both fake king AAA grade,2 years warranty?
Do you know if the crystal of steeldive 1970 is the same as an skx or goes up to 32mm?
Hi
Crystal is 32mm like the seiko turtle
@@TheWatcherReviews thanX!!
Thats a great info!!
