  • Check out the comparison between the Rdunae & Steeldive Willard homages. Both are stunning but the Steeldive offers so much value for money. But is it all about value or refinement?

    Overall the Rdunae is better in every single way than the Steeldive. If you compare both with the original , the Rdunae is closer because the measurements, bezel, crystal, finishing and dial markers. I own the original Willard from Seiko and I own as well the Steeldive and this new Rdunae (black version) and in my opinion, I prefer by far the Rdunae over the Steeldive. Thanks for this great review.

      I agree, the Rdunae is more accurate. I had the Steeldive and I sold it to get the Rdunae once I saw it and this review. I also got the black one because it was more like the original. Someday I plan on snagging an original, but still too expensive for my wallet now, maybe when I am better paid. lol

    Good video mate. I was one of the first to preorder the Rdunae when they showed. As a bit of a Seikopath myself, I could instantly tell the differences between this and the Steeldive and Heimdallr versions. It sorta annoyed me to see some people writing off the Rdunae and pointing towards the cheaper Steeldive. Because there are a lot of details and design choices that Rdunae have gone to the expense of doing in an effort to really evoke the original Seiko 6105.
    I think the Steeldive is great if you want an inexpensive beater and/or you like the general look of the 6105 Willard. Because as you said, the value is undeniably superb. But the Rdunae really is one for the Seiko enthusiasts, for someone who can appreciate all the details on the Rdunae. I wonder if Rdunae will continue to make faithful homages of other vintage Seiko divers.

      Yeh i totally agree and I'm one to follow what you said. I can appreciate the extent that Rdunae went to and the costs associated with it. Its not always about value but this only comes into realisation as you mature through the hobby. When you first start off in the affordable/homage game, specs are all that matters but after you realise its not just specs. We're agreed in what you said, be well mate and thanks for watching and messaging 👍🏼🤝🏼🤜🏽

    The Rdunae has the exact specifications of the Seiko 6105-8110: 19mm lug width, crown at 4, domed Glass, aluminium insert and so on. The even copied the "lock" on the crown.
    If you want a good watch for a price that can't be beaten, get the Steeldive.
    If you want to get as close as possible to the original Seiko Willard without spending thousands of Dollars, get the Rdunae. It's a real hommage to a real watch.

    Nice video. Been putting off buying a Willard homage for a while but just picked one up in the AliExpress sale for £47 delivered - and that's on the bracelet (which I understand, now has a milled clasp). I hope I'm not disappointed.

  • @hellboy1976
    @hellboy1976 Год назад +5

    With a Willard homage, it shouldn't be about value - it should be about how close it looks to the original, otherwise why bother with an homage at all?
    I have a Heimdallr and I've never been happy with the look. It just doesn't look right. I also have the Willard reissue, which is a fantastic watch, but again, doesn't feel/look like the Willard (a dropped ball by Seiko - they shouldn't have messed around with a 5 thousand dollar limited edition, or the Frankenstein reissue and should have instead just given us a fully accurate reissue at tool watch prices, like the Turtle).
    This Rdunae has really caught my eye with that case shape...

    Evidently RD pays a lot of attention to details. Just look at the "Lock" sign on the crown. Arguably this is a more faithful re-creation of the Willard than the Seiko re-edition. This is what the RD should be compared to.

    For those complaining about the 19mm lug width on the Rdunae, I guarantee you can squeeze a 20mm strap on it. Their earlier release of the 6105-8000 was this way also, and it looks just fine. It actually comes with a 20mm tropic strap on it. Keeping the 19mm lug width goes along with printing 150m Water PROOF on the dial (which is not allowed anymore), ↪️ LOCK on the crown (when it's a screw down crown), and retaining the shape of the original watch it's meant to homage/replicate. The 8000 was almost a one to one replica of the original, and I'm betting this one is, also.

    • @SheshankReddyS
      @SheshankReddyS 2 года назад +2

      Absolutely... and I appreciate Retangula's attempt to offer something different; A little more fidelity which probably comes from a genuine appreciation of the original 8110.

    • @bigriceburner
      @bigriceburner 2 месяца назад +1

      At this point I have to add ... if you can't fit a 20 mm strap on this then you don't deserve owning this watch. Because brother you're just not man enough.

  • @SheshankReddyS
    @SheshankReddyS 2 года назад +5

    I have the SteelDive SD1970 "version 2" and I love it. You're right, it is incredible value. That said, the RDUNAE is looking very tempting as an "upgrade". I appreciate the case finishing between the lugs, which with a rubber strap is very visibly lacking on the SD1970 and has always bothered me a little.
    I really like the Retangula attention to detail and the fact they've been a lot more faithful to the iconic watch from 1970.

  • @richardhoulton4016
    @richardhoulton4016 2 года назад +4

    The Steeldive all day long. Gold on a “semi-military tool watch”? Nah.
    The only thing I wish they’d get more right in the reflection of the minute markers by the beveled glass. On the Seiko 6105 the reflection of the minute markers makes it look like there are two rows of minute markers right next to each other. The Steeldive does the reflection thing but with a bigger gap between the rows than on the Seiko Willards. The other watch doesn’t even attempt what is really a signature look of the Willard.

    • @SrJonAnthony
      @SrJonAnthony 7 месяцев назад

      You must think thats the only version they make. Kind of weird he chose that version for the video. But that implies hes not too concerned with homaging, more just comparing fit and finish etc of homages.

  • @degmar
    @degmar 2 года назад +4

    Interesting. I think when looking at a homage watch, you have to factor in accuracy to the original. So, to me, the Rdunae is worth the extra money as it is a closer replica to the original.

  • @hellboy1976
    @hellboy1976 Год назад +2

    So my Rdunae Willard arrived and it's fantastic!!!
    Just feels so much more like the original Willard than any of the other homages did/do.
    Couple nitpicks:
    - Numbers on the bezel ring could use some adjustment in size and thickness to bring them closer to the original.
    - Domed crystal, while better than a flat one, still need a bit more doming to it (at least that's what I'm seeing in comparison with the original)
    Also makes me realize that the other current homages seem more like an homage to the re-issued Seiko SPB151.

  • @adedaniel4006
    @adedaniel4006 Год назад +1

    I loved your review. It helped me make the decision between the two. I've gone for the Rdunae/ Retangula because those differences make the watch worth the extra money, in my opinion. The Retangula is definitely the more accurate homage to the original Seiko 6105 8110. I thought the Steeldive looks flatter and less aesthetically pleasing with the flat crystal. Also, the engraving on the crown mimics the original 'Captain Willard', since it has the word 'Lock' engraved on the crown, exactly like the original. The ceramic, lumed bezel on the Steeldive is a nice feature for those who aren't bothered about homaging accuracy. It's good value for money, but in my opinion makes the watch look too new and a bit cheap.
    Thanks for the excellent review and keep up the good work.

    Great comparo! 2 watches I'm definitely looking at seriously (but I only need one). I have to say, I'm just no a fan of ceramic bezels. Or rather, I'm not a fan of the shiny finish they usually have on watches at this price point. So, if all other things were equal, I'd probably go with the Rdunae. But I wish it had a 20mm lug width (even if the original it's homaging also had a 19). Overall, I prefer the Rdunae (case shape, hands, bezel), but the value of the Steeldive is hard to beat. Especially with that movement.

    I've had a Steeldive, and it's certainly brilliant value for money, I think the Captain Willard is my favourite watch, I splashed out on the Swiss movement (ETA 2824-2) "Custom Made" Heimdallr, which I think is also excellent value given the movement and higher standard of finish. I've just ordered a champagne dial, titanium version, again from Heimdallr. The Rdunae models are also pretty decent. There's plenty of choice, personally I think they look better with aluminium bezel inserts, but a ceramic bezel wouldn't put me off given how easy it is to change them. It's a good time for fans of the Chinese watch makers, I hope the industry continues to thrive in the face of the American trade war against China. They certainly offer fantastic value compared to the established brands. Great video, thanks for posting!
