I'm a jewler, took a few high end watch authentication courses and I remember my instructor telling me "at some point, the fakes will be of the same quality as the authentic watches" I almost cried but this is next level.
They can replica anything. Take it apart and laser scan it. They have to make them for the price point they are aiming for prob $500 wholesale. Gotta admit that’s crazy for $500. Imagine if their budget was $1000 or $1500 per watch. It would be exact. Scary.
@@swiftusmaximus5651They're obviously charging extra because they can, however the fakers dont have to spend on a designer, R&D and years of advertising and building the brand. Theres a reason they're faking these watches instead of putting their own brand on it.
Clone factories can deliver the same dial colour of course (nothing hard about that) but they typically do not deliver the exact same dial because they also want to sell v.2, v.3 etc of their clones
Looking at the authentic watch at 0:35. To me it looks like the indicator for 2 o clock is turned the worng way around. It does not fit with the shape of the bezel like the other indicators do. The replica has this the "right" way around in my opinion
I wonder if the owner of the real 5712 will ask Patek to replace his incorrect 2 marker... Interestingly, I have the latest version from PPF and my calipers show it to be slightly less than 9mm thick. My calipers only show 0.1mm accuracy so I can't tell exactly to the 100th mm. The logo on the bracelet also appears to be much better quality than the one you showed. The biggest tells for me are the regulator, the shallow engraving (it appears to be laser etched) and the relatively light winding weight. In any case it is a gorgeous watch. I just don't wear it, even in the house. I have a strong feeling these factories are leaving obvious tells on purpose as some kind of plausible deniability, so they can say "we're making replicas for people to use as decoys or try-ons, not trying to pass them off as real".
@robertbrandywine but it would... the form is fixed, the volume is fixed, so it's up to the density (weight per volume) of the material. Gold is much denser/heavier than brass and much denser than nearly any other metal (apart from Osmium, Uranium e.g.). They can't compensate by putting more material in because there is simply no room for more... so in this case there is a real mechanical reason to use gold.
Yes maybe they can sell this one at auction for a high value... These small mistakes are due to their immense pressure to meet demand but does not compromise the overall quality in terms of cleanliness or precision.
I know one of the engineers who works in the replica supply chain. The truth is, they do have their own brand in China and no one wants them. For the whole supply chain to survive and to feed everyone, they decided to take the risks and make budget replicas underground. In fact, they offered special add-on options to make 5712, 5711, 5167 and etc to make your replica even close to a gen one. It's crazy to see with your own eyes how close those super replicas can be.
This is the first time I clicked on Wristcheck and I want to see more. I am impressed by the even tone of presentation, the clarity of the images, the studio environment. I also appreciate that the presenter did not judge the replica. After I (with a genuine Patek) was attacked on the street I thought of buying replicas of my daily watches to wear. Then I realized I might be attacked for a replica that looked too authentic. The prospect of being attacked and injured for wearing a $1k watch as opposed to a $100k watch put my situation in perspective. I got a fancy G-Shock but have not lived happily ever after. The G-Shock was very UNcomfortable (not well balanced, hurt my wrist, caught my jacket cuff, hard to read, clunky thing to unstrap).
I have been wearing replica watches for 30 years now, yet I have not any complaint till now. In a modern world, no one wants to wear the same watch forever. There is no need to spend huge amount just to tell the time.
What really bothered me from the very start, was not the color of the replica's moon phase, but the painted stars on it are really blatantly executed. They are chunkier, whereas on the genuine one can clearly see how crisp and defined all of the stars" edges are! Captivating breakdown, thank you!
The crazy thing is that this replica can come with a free spring balance wheel and a laser engraved movement for a total cost of $3200. And of course, it is with a fully functional power reserve.
We have yet to see a free-sprung balance on a replica. It's not saying they can't do it but the price of the watch must remain within reach for those interested in the replicas.
@@PeterWatchmakerWristcheck indeed, and $1000 is already pushing boundaries. I am afraid we will see hi-end fakes costing several thousands in the near future. @@cedarcanoe I would bet we won't see high-end fakes like you're referring to. It's not in their interest to make such watches. The costs are too high and the buyers are too few. As someone who would never own either a copy or a real Patek (I could easily though), I'm amazed that the best way to tell this is a fake is have a $50K example handy with which to compare it as well as the knowledge to see the tiny differences. For the person who would want a copy, this watch will pass any "bar" test - even a jeweler couldn't tell this is a fake if he was looking at it on someone else's wrist. I honestly can't believe there's that big a market for these that it's worth the effort to set up a facility to replicate something as complicated as the movement itself. Strange times.
One glaring difference between real and fake was revealed at 9:45. The word "Control" is misspelled on the fake. This would be an excellent tip-off without even opening the box.
as an owner of a replica Patek. I make no apologies. I own many affordable genuine watches, but I wanted unobtanium. and I got it. I'm literally wearing it now and it looks great. Don't care if it's fake.
at the 00:21 mark, doesn't it look like the 2 o'clock indices is flipped. Shouldn't the beveled end closet to the outside of the dial be slanted the other direction - like the fake one?
Yup! Patek applied the incorrect index on this particular watch. All manufacturers make mistakes but the cleanliness and precision is their priority during the quality control.
At this level of competence, it is obvious that the replicas maker can make the exact same quality as the original maker. The only problem is they don't have the same prestige so they can't sell at that price to justify the same level of quality control and embellishment. It also proves that whoever made the replicas already have a strong technical knowledge of high quality watch movements and they will also able to create their own unique movements if they have the money to pour into R&D. There is no way the people who reverse engineered these movements do not have ideas of their own. The only reason why Swiss watches are still selling at such high price is the prestige and branding, not because their technology or capability to create new movements are unsurpassable.
Read a lot of comments and found it funny people talking about ethics and these fake watches being made in poor working conditions. Highly suggest you look at conditions for workers making your cellphones. Also conditions it takes to get the raw materials for your phones. Ignorance is bliss right 👀
As AI progresses it will, in a short time, be virtually impossible to tell real from fake probably to the extent that the distinction becomes blurred. Did you ever see the film Blade Runner based on the Philip K Dick novel ‘Do Androids dream of Electric Sheep?’ Basis of the story is the technology has been developed to produce replica human beings (Replicants) indistinguishable from real people. Far fetched? I wonder.
Your right. But as blockchain develops it will ensure authenticity. You will simply scan your friends watch band at the bar... and this will confirm that the Watche and ita corresponding NFT is unique and registered.... of course the private key is stored at home in a safe. When sold on fhe aftermarket Patek is notified and a new private key NFT is issued to the new buyer. This tech is here now and will be mainstream within the next few years.

It's actually more like half of that amount. We all know that it's impossible to obtain this type of model from an authorized dealer, and because the super clones are becoming more and more sophisticated and closer to the authentic ones, I no longer buy from the grey market, even if it's a trusted dealer. Thank you for your encouraging video, and it's a pity that timepiece enthusiasts are penalized in this way.
In today's environment, the moral of the story is: only buy from AD. It's just too risky to buy from secondary market. If I'm spending 30k-40k for a watch I would just have to demand that a guy like Peter meet with me, open the watch in front of me, and show me all the indicators the watch is authentic. For an experienced watchmaker it might take 30 mins but, justified for a customer ready to drop 5 figures on an item. I've had instances where I spent 4-5 hours before I could walk away after buying a car. Why not a watch? You can also do it remotely, over TEAMS video or facetime for out of state buyers. It's not that you do not trust the dealer, it's that even dealers can be fooled.
That's why we do what we do! We authenticate every watch in front of the client if they wish as you mentioned. This transparency is the only way the secondary market can feel "safe." Of course we find things that make us uneasy but those watches never make it to consignment. Very few secondary dealers actually have a watchmaker/authenticator with enough experience to inspect all of the watches.
As so long the fake can keep track of time just like the original, gimme the fake one. Then i'll be able to engrave on the back a nasty comment for whoever end up robbing me :D
These fakes are INCREDIBLY GOOD for the price. Most of the comparison on the outside was done with MAGNIFICATION i.e cannot be seen with the naked eye. Fakes can also be "improved". 99.9% of the population could not tell the difference especially if they are not side by side with a real one and without magnification.
Oh, I understand the security aspects of wanting to wear the fake outdoors, but doesn't that interfere with the enjoyment of the real thing? Also, it is still illegal in many countries to trade in fakes with some pretty severe penalties. It is just sad that you have to resort to these measures not to lose your investment.@@shahlegno5890
With modern technology, a replica will be 99% the same as the original. Even the movement accuracy will be the same. So the question is should you buy a replica instead because it's much cheaper.
But that can easily be overcome by regulating the watch. I have a Batgirl super clone in front of me that keeps incredibly good time, easily on par with its more expensive dad.@@Matt463634
It's not as simple as regularly unfortunately. The entire manufacturing process determines the precision once you get to the adjustment and poising stage. The reality is, yes they are cosmetically achieving close to 90% but the overall quality is closer to 30%. These watches don't last.
That justification for purchase at the end hit home. People can't afford the real thing & buy a fake. I bought a fake Rolex on the street in Mexico City in the early 1990s for around $50. I'm not into Rolex (except the $250k one I inherited), but fake Rolex were/are a popular thing on Mexican streets & I wanted to buy one for fun, as a souvenir. My fake Rolex worked perfectly, kept accurate time & looked great. I often got compliments on it. About 10 years later I gave it to a friend who really liked it & knew about it. This was a great watch & fun for me since I bought it on a Mexico City sidewalk.
Until you own the real watch. Then you'd laugh at all fakes. The feeling you get when owning an original Patek, AP or alike is incomparable. I know the fake lovers will start shouting now, but that's because they need to prove it to themselves they scored a good deal. Whereas the fake is just a fake.

Thickness is quite gray believe it or not. We measure every watch we consign and even two identical references will vary slightly. The manufacturers always post a thickness as a reference but there is a variance. +/- 0.2mm depending on the watch.

Scary.
or is it those Swiss ock uckers are just grossly way overcharging for theyre product?
@@swiftusmaximus5651They're obviously charging extra because they can, however the fakers dont have to spend on a designer, R&D and years of advertising and building the brand. Theres a reason they're faking these watches instead of putting their own brand on it.
@@carlad2640 So all that makes a $ 5-6000 watch cost $50-60 K.
Maybe, maybe not, but why do you care? They can charge what they want and if people buy it then they're not out of the market. @swiftusmaximus5651
If they had half a brain they would just create their own brand. And sell for more as an original. The minor deviation alter the patent.
Looks brilliant that replica, where can I get one?
who makes the best replicas?
Clone factories can deliver the same dial colour of course (nothing hard about that) but they typically do not deliver the exact same dial because they also want to sell v.2, v.3 etc of their clones
Really good point. Never thought of it that way.
That implies there are only a limited number of customers, I don’t think that is the case, at all.
@@kickedinthecalfbyacow7549Somebody didn't pass microeconomics apparently.
Yes. This is an important point
@FBI
It couldn't cost much extra to duplicate the weight of the rotor.
Its gold @robertbrandywine
Nobody cares about plausible deniability in China, and regardless these extremely small details are not plausible in court
@robertbrandywine but it would... the form is fixed, the volume is fixed, so it's up to the density (weight per volume) of the material. Gold is much denser/heavier than brass and much denser than nearly any other metal (apart from Osmium, Uranium e.g.). They can't compensate by putting more material in because there is simply no room for more... so in this case there is a real mechanical reason to use gold.
anywhere know where I can get one?
in London buy them off the guys standing next to the Romanian ball cup scammers next to parliament.
The original dial is defective! The 2 o'clock index peaks in the wrong direction, it should peak upwards, as does the 10 o'clock index!
Goos spot
Yes maybe they can sell this one at auction for a high value... These small mistakes are due to their immense pressure to meet demand but does not compromise the overall quality in terms of cleanliness or precision.
@@juxtaplay You could always "manufacture" this mistake if you wanted to, so I don't see the value being higher.
How the hell did they miss that?
That's what 50,000€ buys you. As well as a crap box.
with that level of craftmanship, I wish the replicamaker would just make their own brand and design.
Great video but you missed a big section. How does the movement/accuracy of the fake compare with the real thing?
Agree: both could easily have been placed on a time grapher, to compare & contrast
so where is the best place to buy the replica
Exactly, what is the point of saying how good the replica is if only they can get their hands on one.
Quality video mate! I love the technical details!
I won't hold back on the technical bits! It seems many people want to get nerdy with it. Challenge accepted.
Sir, sorry to hear that you were attacked for your watch. Would you mind sharing the city were the event occurred? Thank you
If you can buy Patek... Why do you live where you can realistically be attacked *(for anything)
It’s rare now on RUclips to get this calm type of informative video, from someone who knows his job. Good to see!

I love these comparison videos. Fakes are fascinating.
I have been wearing replica watches for 30 years now, yet I have not any complaint till now. In a modern world, no one wants to wear the same watch forever. There is no need to spend huge amount just to tell the time.
Todays kids got the time on their mobile.
If I saw that real box with the real watch, I’d question the watch.
That proves to me that Patek is about watches, not boxes.
This is just a temp box for it to be stored at the AD. Their boxes are wood and very high quality. Next time we will compare the wooden boxes.
I checked the price: 50,000€. This has to be a joke. In Asia, you have wooden boxes lined with silk or flanel for items selling less than 100€.

where does one purchase a replica?
The crazy thing is that this replica can come with a free spring balance wheel and a laser engraved movement for a total cost of $3200. And of course, it is with a fully functional power reserve.
We have yet to see a free-sprung balance on a replica. It's not saying they can't do it but the price of the watch must remain within reach for those interested in the replicas.
@@PeterWatchmakerWristcheck indeed, and $1000 is already pushing boundaries. I am afraid we will see hi-end fakes costing several thousands in the near future. @@eugo6100where ?
@@cedarcanoe I would bet we won't see high-end fakes like you're referring to. It's not in their interest to make such watches. The costs are too high and the buyers are too few. They have realised the largest market for "super clones" (they're not super at all) is $500-$800 USD. Closest thing we will see is individuals making super franken clones which we already see.
But where can you even buy these? You gotta go to China right?
I imagine the guys running the counterfeit shop are very pleased you made this video lol
In that case, you're a fake person as well. Unobtainum should be left unobtainium unless you actually have the cash to splash for it.

at the 00:21 mark, doesn't it look like the 2 o'clock indices is flipped. Shouldn't the beveled end closet to the outside of the dial be slanted the other direction - like the fake one?
Yup! Patek applied the incorrect index on this particular watch. All manufacturers make mistakes but the cleanliness and precision is their priority during the quality control.
@@juxtaplay lucky watch owner then, right. Does this up the value? I know dial mistakes on Rolexes usually do?
Exactly next step is for replica company's to launch their own modern designs.
so where can i get the replica from..?
Excellent review. I've SUB'd due to your in-depth and sophisticated overview.

Love your channel.. Thank you for another great run through!
Read a lot of comments and found it funny people talking about ethics and these fake watches being made in poor working conditions. Highly suggest you look at conditions for workers making your cellphones. Also conditions it takes to get the raw materials for your phones. Ignorance is bliss right 👀
Who made the replica?
I absolutely do like this content and I have subscribed. Thank you for sharing.
Love the series man.
So what I took away from this is they are achieving 85% of the quality externally with a price of 1000 dollars lmao. Issue is they will only get better.
Cheap labor? 0 marketing cost?
@@WestCoastAce27cheap labor yes , $0 marketing cost not necessarily. They have marketing pages on Reddit where they explain which factory , which upgrades are coming , what upgrades have been done and they do giveaways and 10-30% off etc etc , TikTok, and other platforms also. And they pay RUclipsrs to do reviews . They do the same with fake sneakers
It's actually more like half of that amount. You have to know where to look for with these replicas to find the cheapest prices, most of the sellers you'll find easily are targeting you specifically, basically the foreign market, but if you look for those within the chinese domestic market you'll find they're selling these for much cheaper to themselves basically.

In today's environment, the moral of the story is: only buy from AD. It's just too risky to buy from secondary market. If I'm spending 30k-40k for a watch
I would just have to demand that a guy like Peter meet with me, open the watch in front of me, and show me all the indicators the watch is authentic.
Any watch enthusiast could tell it was a fake 5 seconds after opening it.
AD sales only give you an arrogant face while replieca sales talke to you how mcuh effort and technic they try to reach and super friendly

I am considering just this as I can’t wear my Rolexes in London for fear of theft.
where is that replica from?
With modern technology, a replica will be 99% the same as the original. Even the movement accuracy will be the same. So the question is should you buy a replica instead because it's much cheaper.
The accuracy of this was all over the place, you can see it on the timegrapher reading.
But that can easily be overcome by regulating the watch. I have a Batgirl super clone in front of me that keeps incredibly good time, easily on par with its more expensive dad.@@Matt463634
They only reason to buy a real watch is because of it’s value or because it’s a very unique watch
It's not as simple as regularly unfortunately. The entire manufacturing process determines the precision once you get to the adjustment and poising stage. The reality is, yes they are cosmetically achieving close to 90% but the overall quality is closer to 30%. These watches don't last.
@@juxtaplay Yes indeed. I thought replica watches are treated as a disposable anyway.
where did he get this
🤯 after watching this I’m astonished people would pay $100,000 more for a real PP!
It’s getting to a point where someone wearing a replica could laugh at someone wearing a genuine watch.. so close for so little money.
Until you own the real watch. Then you'd laugh at all fakes. The feeling you get when owning an original Patek, AP or alike is incomparable. I know the fake lovers will start shouting now, but that's because they need to prove it to themselves they scored a good deal. Whereas the fake is just a fake.
Where can I buy the replica from ?!
I think what this kind of proves is that a Patek-Philippe just isn't worth as much as they sell it for. Even with all the finishing that goes into them, the price is just beyond insane.
And that's a surprise? The world of extreme luxury has nothing to do with value. It's about the stories we tell ourselves and the image we want to project.
@@pierrex3226keeps highly-skilled craftsmen in jobs too. Ultimately the monetary value of something is only what people are prepared to pay for it. Personally, I’d hate to live in a world where everything is mass-produced by robots. I’d love a Patek Philippe, but they are way out of my pocket 😂
I've just received my 5712 through a Chrono24 dealer. The quality is incredibly good! However, I wanted to make sure if it's a genuine watch and checked if the watch has a Curb Regulator. It doesn't (i felt immediatley reliefed)! But then I used a caliper to measure the thickness, and it's 8.8mm. According to the manufacturer, it should be 8.52mm. That left me uncertain. But you also state that the genuine one has 8.8mm. Could it be that Patek measures differently? And do all the other websites online simply adopt the 8.5mm measurement that Patek provides?
Thickness is quite gray believe it or not. We measure every watch we consign and even two identical references will vary slightly. The manufacturers always post a thickness as a reference but there is a variance. +/- 0.2mm depending on the watch.
