So young and so much talent. These kids are out of control. I can hear all my favorite bands (The Cure, Joy Division, My Bloody Valentine, Sonic Youth, Stone Roses) all mixed in pure perfection.
THE DRUMMER IS THE GLUE. It's an obvious overstatement, but it is incredibly taxing to play that fast, that tight, for so long. Lots of nice work on the floor toms. The rhythm section is totally locked in for rock.
blipblip88 How do bands even go on tour? does a management company do it for them or do they literally save money and pay to tour out of their own pockets?
yep they also get some money to buy equipment but the record companies fuck them over and make them have to pay back. its a fucked up business now. you literally become a slave for it but at least you love your job you know?
I wish I knew, I think its always best to think independent.. save as much money as you can but also learn the politics so u can find a way to benefit either now or in the future.. I assume they save money and the label or management helps with booking and transportation ..
Heroin's a helluva drug. It definitely gave them a certain sleepy / homeless vibe. But I'm glad to see Zachary and the gang clean now and sounding better than ever. Hope Colby is OK, he's an insanely talented drummer.
I heard Under the Sun heading to OKC last year - had to pull over and pull up the playlist from the station. Then I found this…takes me back for sure for whatever reason. Not a musician and don’t know lingo or styles etc, but this just changed me. Hard to explain but I’m glad I was lucky enough to hear them for sure
viktr estebn I guess you could say that. Just wanted to point out that nothing is ever original, but simply repackaged ideas from other fields of interest or re-workings on older concepts. But I do agree that the concept of originality is different to every person. I just hate using the word "original" when it actually isn't by definition. If you think of absolute originality, where a piece of artwork has no outside influences than such a thing does not exist in a human capacity as everyone is influenced by the world around them. Creating something absolutely original is like trying to comprehend a possible alien world where nothing is at all remotely similar to humanity. It can’t be done unless it is shown to us, or at least some aspect of it. If you think of originality as one person’s individual input on an idea that has already been around with a splash of the influences that has affected them in life, then you are closer to understanding creative works. But again, I hate using the word "original". I'd rather use a different word instead of bending the definition of "originality" to fit where it doesn't.
Love them. Their sound is just freaking wonderful. And for some reason it makes me a bit nostalgic for my youth in the 80s, but the music still sounds fresh.
"The lead of DIIV is like this little elf man that does nothing but travel the world and make people happy", Lamo, I couldn't put my finger on it, but you nailed it!
True, his pocket is way more slacker and post punkish...which makes it cooler IMO, I actually felt bummed out when both the original drummer and bassist left the band : ( anyways DIIV fucking rules.
C potter, I agree the drummer they have now has a good steady solid drum sound but the old drummer was and probably still is unique even though it resembles joy divisions drummer but in his own take ,wish he didn't leave ,as for the bassist who's gone I just miss his hair in his face!
because at around 20:57 Zachary Cole Smith screams "AHHHH, FUCK!!!" and i think it's hilarious :) It probably isn't the best part of the set musically, but I find it really entertaining. I think Air Conditioning is my favorite song off this video, it gets way more intense than the studio version, and he plays it differently live
it's true, they have that special something, upbeat but transmitting a wave of peace and love. A perfect antidote to all the crappy heavy metal, hip-hop and ed sheerans out there.
Meilleur live de DIIV... Les ingénieurs du son de chez KEXP sont des magiciens. Tous les live sont une tuerie. C'est souvent le meilleur live des artistes qui y passent.
In response to everyone crying about the Nirvana riff.."DIIV (previously known as Dive - named after the Nirvana song) is the ongoing project of Zachary Cole Smith. Dude likes Nirvana, let him sneak a riff in every once in awhile, shit.
These guys seem pretty genuine to me, not the type to do that either intentionally or selfishly (hoping people would not recognize the riff). The lead of DIIV is like this little elf man that does nothing but travel the world and make people happy haha. This band is great to see live, they all bring their own unique presence to the stage.
Whatever they are "on," they are so fucking ON. That was an amazing live performance. Bravo young dudes making it look easy. What's even more mysterious is how it took me 4 years to stumble upon this performance... What the hell was I on?! Too much sobriety LOL!!
This is great. I'd be curious to know how much Luna they've listened to. The drummer looks like a cross between Johnny Greenwood from Radiohead and the non-Al Pacino bank robber from "Dog Day Afternoon."
Saw these guys live. Good show. Swear they were all wearing pajamas and snuggies LOL Didn't know if i should buy them a beer or some warm milk and cookies hahahaa
It's time to bring diiv back to kexp!!!

New Order
Neu!
Absolutely!
Been loving this band, I just love how raw the sounds are, and how each song builds the next
Indeed. Blown away by them and Craft Spells. Brings a tear to your eye a little bit.
Hope to see these lads again on KEXP with their new album ‘Deceiver’... please make it happen.
@Chris Greene Agreed, I will miss the sound of both of their old albums.
please KEXP!

Wonder what he did after these i hope hes clean
Too bad he left the band. New drummer is pretty dope and solid as well.
Noticed this as well. He effing rocks hard in this video, and is 100% on point. Oshin era DIIV peeks at us from another dimension.
@@seriousst001he left to be the lead Singer of the strokes
Happy 10 years to this performance
This performance needs to be preserved and catalogued as a national cultural treasure, imo.
The drummer really understands the sound of this iconic band 🥸
damn whatever the music industry serves us in the charts; the multi guitar trick never gets old.
Their music sends me to another dimension. And I don’t wanna come back.
Here 12 years later, thanks to KESP
they're my favorite homeless band....
When you ya .... Ya ....know..... This band has that special tingle in your ear vagina. If your ear-vagina doesn't get it... Good luck to you

The drummer is the heartbeat. You can tell he is giving it his all.
Starting at 7:49 you will hear All Apologies in the solo.

+Ben Masterson I though that was just a impression of mine but you confirmed this
+Ben Masterson A little nod to Kurt. However they sound nothing like Nirvana...
+Cyrus Budd Did someone say they sound like Nirvana?
OMG yes
I love DIIV, I can't stop listen this band!
Hi
My story as well since someone handed me a copy of Oshin 10 years ago. 🤘
Top priority of the summer, get tickets to DIIV

I love that drummer... So sad he's left the band.
Excellent live by the way ! (as always on KEXP)

they sound like lots of bands, but they got something that make them very original and that's good.. i cant wait for the next album
viktr estebn Originality doesn't exist anymore.
it's all subjetive, just the way to see it

Love the drummer's Neu! shirt...def has a Neu! vibe going on too
yesss bring 80's- early 90's indie rock/alt rock back!!
their music is like candy that never getting sick of it

damn the drummer was high as fuck
i think thats just the way his face looks
lmao he actually got kicked out for being a heroine addict LOL still love em
Riley Brooke They are all on H
coming from a recovering heroin addict he is not on h there. His pupils are huge so he is on an upper. heroin makes your eyes pin sized, look it up
Hj Jj i'm aware they all do drugs but colby was detrimental to the band because of how bad his addiction was
The drummer has a strong Stephen Morris vibe! Love it.
Wish he was still with em
I was thinking he was more of a lost Culkin brother.
@@davidbarrett4586 that works too!
