They sounded so good on their most recent tour. Their old songs sounded heavier than ever. And the softer, slower new songs like "Somber the Drums" and "Everyone Out" sounded totally different from the album versions and way heavier. They even started their encore with "Everyone Out" which is slow & laidback on the record, but played live it had the same high energy level as Horsehead or Blankenship (which were the other 2 encore songs). I prefer the live, fully electric versions with Ben's live drumming. I've been wishing i could replay that show for the past 2 months now. The band even came out of their bus and talked to me & signed my EP after the show in Phoenix. I got pics with everyone. I just saw them walking to the bus and yelled their names and they came right over. They were drenched in sweat & exhausted, I'm sure. It was like 110° F that night. All 4 were super chill & sincere. I've seen some other "indie rock dudes" act like huge conceited assholes before, so their sincerity was really cool. We talked about Elliot Smith & guitar pedals. Felt like I got the VIP experience lol. The merch was also really dope. The shirts were sick and there was a blue snapback I had to cop. Bailey took notice of the hat and proceeded to explain how he had personally selected the brand & style of hat because he likes the triangular shape of the crown. As a fellow "hat guy" I truly appreciated Bailey's care & thoroughness in headwear selection. Bailey chain smoked 2 giant doobies while I talked to him, so I was pretty zooted from the cloud of secondhand smoke. And i had the scent of ganja stuck in my nose for like 3 days after lol. Some potent shit. No complaints tho.

Hell. Yes. DIIV is seriously one of the best bands on the planet and I keep waiting for the entire World to realise it. I'm 41 and many of my favorite bands are from the 80s and 90s and like 10 years ago I discovered DIIV and they feel just as vibrant and original and special as anything from the alt rock glory days.
Haven't seen Cheryl this geeked in a while! Album is pristine. This is the most mature I've seen them both musically and line-up wise and I am beyond impressed and grateful this album and its adjoining artwork/vision has come to fruition. Andrew Bailey is a national treasure. If you get a chance to see these humans live, take it. Took me 11 years and I'm elated I finally made it to a show! Frog Era Commence 🐸
My first time seeing them live also despite being a fan since Oshin, and holy shit, the whole thing was amazing, Hate to self-promote one of my own videos but I recorded the Minneapolis show from a couple of months ago and if you loved this session please look for my recording. The whole show was just so good, the lights, video elements throughout the show, the sounds. Truly one of the best shows in recent memory and I have seen plenty. Just great production values for an indie band, And the video came out very nice...
Been listening to these dudes for 10+ years. Their music has helped carry me through some tough times. Finally got to see them live this year. Had very high expectations for the show and of course they exceeded them.
This just explains in a visual/audio way at how great of a DJ/interviewer Cheryl Waters is. Thoughtful and considered questions that are artfully balanced with her love of music (and a twist of fan-girl). ....and DIIV......still pumping out great music after so many years (many don't get to a decade). Still hoping to see you guys live in Australia, and more specifically Hobart, which was cancelled just days before the pandemic shut down Australia to international music.
You have been my favorite band since the covid 19 pandemic, you guys save me from a depressing year, and made a new chapter on my life, not only about music, and now I will be watching you soon in Mexico for second time with a girl I always had a crush xD but just like good friends
such a phenomenal band i’ve been listening to the new record nonstop and saw them a few weeks ago truly one of the best shows i’ve ever seen, go diiv go!!!!!
Been a fan since 2014. Glad to see these guys getting more and more recognition. They are only going up from here. It’s awesome to watch the world discover something really good.
I´ve been a fan since Oshin !!! Seen them live 4 times... lucky enough to watch them in 2014 for the first time in Brooklyn, their hometown, just in some place that doesn´t exist anymoree!!! Tomorrow I will see them again, and I am very excited to see everything they`ve achieved and evolved as a band within last twelve years. Must say this session is KILLING, simply the best, the sound 10/10!!!! A band you must at least hear in your life and see live if you have the privilege :)
Man, I remember watching their first Kexp show. It was something different from anything I'd heard before. And they are so different from everything they were before, in the best way possible. I think they're one of the best examples of how band should evolve.
was at the seattle show, one of the best i have seen, impossibly loud, this show was open to the public and i sincerely regret missing it because i couldnt sleep till 4 and woke up right after it happened and slept thru the alarms, the FIBW tour shirt is one of the coolest they have out, as is the merch for the record, and the record sounds much much much better live. just so you know, the show was announced at the show they played at the neptune, glixen was so gnarly too and so was the other act whos name i have forgotten. My wife took me as a treat and got tickets months in advance, and if youre seeing this alta, i love you forever, and cant wait to see so many more shows with you!

I remember paying for cigarettes with silver dollars we found at your house in that sweet converted garage room of yours dude was already nasty at guitar way back then. I remember the jack on his wine-red tele broke and he just hard-wired a cable right to the guitar Miss you, mang. I still have that cheap rubber whale you always had throating your e-brake, btw
it almost goes without saying at this point, but the KEXP sound engineers are always so on point. This about as close to the studio sound as you could ever hope for in a live performance.

Great to hear the process and thinking that went into recording FIBW. Very thoughtful people. Cheryl’s passion for DIIV was palpable. Sorry to hear Desert Daze was cancelled, was hoping to see them live again this year

That was fucking epic. Saw DIIV live recently at Brooklyn Paramount, which was a mind blowing show. This was a great follow up to that where you can watch from the comfort of your home. Cheers. FIBW is a next level record. Truly remarkable.
I love how Cheryl talks about the band at the start for like a minute and then says 'I don't think I've mentioned the name of the band yet' 😊 she is great, as, of course, are this band. I'm English and a big fan of shoe gaze and indie rock and I'm obsessed with this band.

its really such an understatement to say how happy we all are to see Cheryl Waters!!!
Somber the Drums is one of the best songs of 2024.
This is absolutely true!
such an awesome riff, one of those you wish you wrote
Agreed. The whole album is great, but that's the standout track for me.
