The first time I listened to it I was just waiting for a big drop. And they sort of tease it with those big drum fills...but then it gets quiet again. Really builds suspense.
"Controlled chaos" is PERFECT. The only way i could describe this band is "what sound does a human make" if that makes sense , like a primal scream embodied in music.
Fuck I was hoping nobody mentioned the diff in Joe's vocal efforts in this or could just be an extra emotional day or time for the selfless gentlemen but it was literally the 2nd comment. Being a drummer for 25 yrs Ive always noticed those rare moments when I get slightly off time on certain lines from recording to live setting but he makes up for it with overwhelming ferocity and the bands been playing together so fucking long they'll find eachother thru any blunder. Even if it fell to pieces and they failed to even Finnish fuck it, if music is too perfect it takes the humanity out of it and once you've done that might as well not play no more cuz that's what music's for. Exists to build bridges and keep ppl who have the ability a very incredible out when it comes to mental illness. I can only speak for myself but when I'm creating my subconscious is a long for the ride and inadvertantly contributing to the process rather than make me chase it all around the cosmos all day trying to answer questions idk who's even asking me, for lack of better words........ 1 involuntary rant later (apologies), lotta musicians play to try getting big, famous, or wtv the fuck and others do it cuz we fucking have to or get the straight jacket. Once again, speak for myself. They absolutely play because they have to!!! When passion and love can literally be seen on stage, it gives me hope, makes me feel like there's something much bigger going on here. This band is the Ayahuasca of the music world, bringing ppl together just like plants' compounds become 1.
Dev doesn't get the recognition deserved. His bass parts may be simple but absolutely solid, every note picked consistently and dead on time. Creative but simple.
the whole band keeps getting better and better. and joe talbot has grown into such an immensely talented and dynamic performer. his voice has gotten so much stronger, and such a huge range. his physicality and and expressions are theatrical but don't feel excessive, he's become a great personification of the songs.
That he can belt, practically SCREAM "damage" like that, and in between, easily switch to his head voice for the "ooh ooooooh ooohhh", and hit the notes of it just right... that's a sign of real singing talent. Control. Screaming that heavily, with that much grit, would've easily thrown off a lot of singers' ability to sing in their head voice for the rest of the song, let alone within the rest of the verse, myself included. Granted, I'm terribly out of practice, but even with it, I'm just not that good. Joe is a monster at vocals.
I'm new here and this my actual first listen to this band. I dont get to deep into how much Im impressed with this performance and how everything is in its right place, but I will get into one thing, the song "The Beachland Ballroom". This song is "the song"... Its the one that I guess I needed to hear the most. I didnt know what to expect going into the song but what I can say for sure is that, it left me bleeding in my emotions and tears, and even tho its been 3 hours since my initial listen, the song still leaves a mark, leaves me speechless. The last segament of the song, is most of how I felt in the past 6-8 months and I couldnt let it out because I didnt know how. But hearing those vocals cut through this barrier of being passive and emotionless... Sorry for me rambling on, I think I just needed to write this somewhere...
I hope you are doing well friend; Doing better. Even if you are not, I hope you see this and know someone out here on this vast world shed a tear for your tears and is rooting for you.

The Beachland Ballroom is such an incredibly beautiful song, and just look how much passion is put into it by every member! What a phenomenal performance!
What amazes me the most is the impossible balance joe and company have achieved between great and energetic violence and profound and authentic sensibility. This songs actually speak about this whole era with sharp criticism but also profound understanding of the times we are living. In the basement always gets the best out of their guests. IDLES will go down as a real Phenomenan Ten years down the Line. Beachland Ballroom is such a moving song and they always give it their all.
I just discovered Idles, what a band! There is so much music and footage to go through and for the last week all i've been doing is watching and listening to Idles. I already bought my ticket for their 2024 North America Tour. Can't wait to see this madness live 😀
Beach land Ballroom. Just wow. The whole set is so tight and musically/sonically superb. The total trance Joe was in singing Beachland - he looked almost surprised for the song to finish. :)
These guys have convinced me that rock and roll is alive and screaming. The intensity of their performance reminds me of the great Fugazi. Literally NO ONE is in that category. Keep it up, Idles 👏
Was recommended this band from a friend a few weeks ago. And have pit tix for tonight in NYC. I havent fallen for a band this hard in decades. I am SO EXCITED for tonight
@@rod6189 definitely musicality. That session has a wide range of elements including rhythm, melody, harmony, and timbre, as well as their ability to express intense and varied emotions. Yep definitely musicality.
This is the first I’ve seen this band. I’m a big fan of Swans, and this scratches the same itch with a different claw. Super original! I’ll be checking out more for sure!
I have never heard much of the Idles. This just came up on my RUclips home page. So I checked it out. I am so glad I checked it out. This is an absolute amazing performance. The music grabbed my soul and took me to the place where only the most powerful musicians can take me. Thank you so much. I am now going to go back and start from the first album. I will definitely spread the word. The Idles are insanely awesome
Wow I never comment. But I can’t believe what’s happened to idles. They still so together and so into the music. They suddenly went a million miles an hour or travelled some vast distance. In lots of different directions. Never seen a harder working band. I don’t bother listening to music anymore but this really made me sit up and take notice. It’s kind of scary and beautiful and awe inspiring. I really think they are giving something that is very special and it’s for us people in shit times. Thankyou for doing something so completely new and for respecting your audience to such a great extent. Not much hope about but this is a big dollop of hope. Really appreciate it.
Since this set dropped into my life it has become my daily morning routine to prepare myself for the day ahead, so a massive thanks to Idles for getting me on the right path. ❤🤘
this is how I end my day currently! I totally feel your sentiment on that one! These guys have taken over all of my current music! This set is just right! Legendary!
I feel this performance shifted my left brain two decimeters backwards. Absolutely insane. Glad to see bands in these times that have this level of creativity, performance and such an original poetic horizon. I LIKE THAT
This is a raw performance in all the right ways, absolutely mesmerising. I love that their drummer looks like the unknown Kray brother who decided to go into beating the crap out of drums instead of people.
I’m just amazed by their progression. When I first heard them I was like, “oh cool these guys are fun.” After watching this I’m very impressed. Excited to see the future!
My bro let me listen to these guys couple weeks ago when we were high and browsing through our fav music ( what we usually do when we smoke) I was BLOWN AWAY. I mean i was outta my fuckin mind. This was THAT unexpected. Happy as hell i found this band. They are visceral and raw and same time calming and with pure emotion. Rare to see these days. Keep up amazing work guys. Im blown away
I'm so happy that so many people feel the way I do about Idles. It is unbelievable how they changed my life in such a short time. I constantly listen to new music but to me they're just something else, they're different and unique, a total revelation. They bring me joy and positivity, I'm so happy I've found them. And this performance is simply beyond words.
In the past week I've seen this at least three or four times a day. It is so beautiful seeing how they've grown as a band. Each and every member is captivating in their own way, but I feel like Jon Beavis needs a lot more praise. At the 18-minute mark when everybody was looking at him was the most FUGAZI moments I've ever seen.
Gotta be the best full time drummer and part-time accountant in the game But in all seriousness, the tension was unbelievable and you can tell all the other band members were waiting with delicious anticipation for him to come in like a sledgehammer through drywall
His drumming radiates so much energy, it is absolutely amazing. As you said every member of the band improves so much from album to album, exept for him because he was perfect from the beginning.
Randomly was recommended their tiny desk concert, was decently amused/interested. Now 5-6 months later I can’t stop listening to the beautiful passion that is IDLES. This is such a goddamn great performance of their Crawler album. Really no song should be skipped here, I can’t say enough good things….
One of the best sounding live set I've ever seen. The whole band seems so focused into giving the best and they did. it sounds incredible. Joe gives his best vocal performance in my opinion. I've deeply enjoyed this set, really happy to see them next month. Wow
Wow, what a level of musicianship/musicality there! It's important to realize that it's not always about how technical or progressive or complex music is to value it's musical quality. I mean, I usually tend to give this kind of credit to bands like Radiohead, Black Midi and such, but in this case it's something completely different. Just their choice of a sound, tightness, arrangements, sometimes very useful minimalism on drums and overall chemistry between them is why I'm absolutely blown away as a listener and as a musician.
First time hearing this band and they are killing it! Reminds me of 20 years ago when i was listening to Interpol and wishing they were harder. LOVE THIS BAND. THANK YOU.
Don't even know why I never listened to Idles after countless recommendations by friends. I'm into Fontaines DC, Turnstile and all this. This is my first time ever hearing Idles and I'm HOOOOOKED after the first 20 seconds. I feel like there will be some good stuff to discover and dive into. What a unit of a band.
After year of regular listening it is still one of my best favourite music live performance. Just perfect balance of technical control and animal explosiveness. My best regards from suffering Ukraine❤🖤
I was a teenager in the 70's and got into punk because I was so angry with everything going , it was my outlet and the thing that kept me sane and out of trouble. But you guys blew me out of the water , you've got the zeitgeist , you know what's going on , what's "real", what's f***ing real. You mirror exactly how we feel , "Car Crash", that's how I feel. I knew from the very first time I heard you, you understand and you're going to tell it for us. Awesome !

@@bjscarberry2927 What have they really got to be angry about? A load of political nonsense that either doesn't exist or has never affected them in any way. The mental health message I wholeheartedly agree with but the other stuff? Come on mate.
@@paulw6183 I think they have touched on all human emotions, and anger is as genuine as the others. They certainly aren't forcing it. Also, politics is definitely a factor. They've made their statements against Brexit, against anti-immigrant retoric, against right-wing ideology and facism. But more importantly, how it has affected them and their circle of friends (with loads of wit I might add). If you haven't already, check out the songs "Great," "Danny Nedelko," "Rottweiler," or "King Snake." Sadly, there's lots to rage against in this day and age.
They are just geting better and better every time, Joe´s voice somehow keeps that punk bizarre tone but notisable improve from the last album. The audio engeneer is a genius. Hopefully this came out as an EP.

@@esmeclair7895 Thank you, right back at ya.
@@aidsvader1138 By the looks of it, they always do. I'm looking forward to that for sure.
Same!
watching Joe singing "Damaged" is incredible. That comes from the heart, man. Really having something to say. Pure honesty. Thats art.
This is my first time ever hearing this band. They fkn Rock dude, GotDAMN.
The joy on the drummers face when he yells 12341234 is everything
As if I needed more reasons to have a crush on this man
Beach land Ballroom. Just wow. The whole set is so tight and musically/sonically superb.
The total trance Joe was in singing Beachland - he looked almost surprised for the song to finish. :)
man was in his BAG for that song
Fuck yeah, I got the chills from the part he started singing "I'm not begging darling"
These guys have convinced me that rock and roll is alive and screaming. The intensity of their performance reminds me of the great Fugazi. Literally NO ONE is in that category. Keep it up, Idles 👏
Sounds like you’ve missed Biffy Clyro
@@luttren Checking out! Thanks
@luttren Early Biffy Clyro maybe, before they turned in to a pop band.
@@stevec6427 in what way are Denier, End Of, Slurpy Slurpy Sleep Sleep, Following Master, Balance Not Symmetry pop songs?
@@luttren bruh Biffy Clyro is 90s lmfao a ton of bands were around at that time while these guys are 2010s come on give me a break
Was recommended this band from a friend a few weeks ago. And have pit tix for tonight in NYC. I havent fallen for a band this hard in decades. I am SO EXCITED for tonight
Watched this everyday 2-3 some days 4 times, since this was posted, i cant stop, the neighbours love it too! Halleluyeah. More please
I'd never heard of these guys and I now have tickets to their show in September (which I bought about halfway through this!). What a performance!
I came here to find comments like this. Love it!
@@JS-kb4im Comments like this. This is a treat youtube decided to grace me with! Glad to hop aboard!
This happened to me with their Tiny Desk concert, their live presence is absolutely amazing!
You're gonna fuckin love it
You won't regret it. They're pant wettingly good live every time
The level of intensity and musicality is off the charts. Had not seen something so good for years. Everything single of them is perfect
Musicality is low
Noise is high
@@rod6189 definitely musicality. That session has a wide range of elements including rhythm, melody, harmony, and timbre, as well as their ability to express intense and varied emotions. Yep definitely musicality.
Call me crazy, but this music feels important. I think this is a band we’re going to be talking about for a long time.
think your right
They've been building since danny nedelko hit on jules holand a few years back , they'll only get bigger in my opinion .
Mate I'm in my late 30s. I always keep an ear out for good music, but these dudes shit all over anything I've listened to in the last 15 years.
@@StuTheDon17 early 40's for me, but spot on!
Music feels unimportant and cringe
This is the first I’ve seen this band. I’m a big fan of Swans, and this scratches the same itch with a different claw. Super original! I’ll be checking out more for sure!
I have never heard much of the Idles. This just came up on my RUclips home page. So I checked it out. I am so glad I checked it out. This is an absolute amazing performance. The music grabbed my soul and took me to the place where only the most powerful musicians can take me. Thank you so much. I am now going to go back and start from the first album. I will definitely spread the word. The Idles are insanely awesome
Agreed
It'll all probably work out, homie. Despair is no place to live.
@@JorshWarshington1 "Pessimism of the intellect, optimism of the will.”
Don’t give up on music.
Legendary!
11:20 The heaviness of the song reminds me of No Love by Death Grips. And as a first time listener, Jesus Christ this band is HEAVY.
Magnificent ❤️
The beachland ballroom is the greatest song I've ever heard. I've heard a lot, I'm 57.
I feel this performance shifted my left brain two decimeters backwards. Absolutely insane. Glad to see bands in these times that have this level of creativity, performance and such an original poetic horizon. I LIKE THAT
One of the best bands on the planet
I've listen to this like 500x already. Absolute masterpiece!
This is a raw performance in all the right ways, absolutely mesmerising. I love that their drummer looks like the unknown Kray brother who decided to go into beating the crap out of drums instead of people.
If you are just discovering these guys everything they put out is just flawless. Enjoy
I'm really late to the party, but I've finally found what I've been seeking.
Thankyou.
This was my first time ever hearing of or even seeing this band. Amazing
It's not often that you have to sit in complete silence after the music is over. This has been one of these times. Outstanding performance.
Joe's voice is getting outstandingly melodical and beautiful. Amazing. 🌿
I’m just amazed by their progression. When I first heard them I was like, “oh cool these guys are fun.” After watching this I’m very impressed. Excited to see the future!
currently obsessed and recommending this band to EVERYONE
Same same!
Musical happiness at last.😊
My bro let me listen to these guys couple weeks ago when we were high and browsing through our fav music ( what we usually do when we smoke)
I was BLOWN AWAY.
Gotta be the best full time drummer and part-time accountant in the game
But in all seriousness, the tension was unbelievable and you can tell all the other band members were waiting with delicious anticipation for him to come in like a sledgehammer through drywall
His drumming radiates so much energy, it is absolutely amazing. As you said every member of the band improves so much from album to album, exept for him because he was perfect from the beginning.
Not listen to Idles in a while, sonically more inventive in the newer stuff which I like. Sounding really full and gnarly. Great stuff.
So beautiful to follow their progression. It’s incredible how each member has improved. Joe’s doing things with his voice we could’ve never imagined🖤
Wow
This whole thing blew my mind. From the music to the lyrics and the energy behind the performance. This is an absolute masterpiece
Back again, and again, and again. Recording is spot on and performance is RAWR!!!! Just awesome.
This is my comfort watch
THANK YOU.
Was thinking the same. Haven't enjoyed something like this since that time.
Wow the Interpol connection is not one I’ve noticed before your comment…good shout!
Or of 30 years ago listening to Fugazi and wishing the performance would never end!!!
Love that Massive Attack-kinda-beat (Angel) in the intro of MTT 420 RR
This is 20 levels above ANYTHING else out there. Jesus wept, this is incredible.
yes
11.10.2024 and i'm still listening, and crying in big sadness to this set. This music is little beat HEALING.
Was this performance suppose to be so splendid that it would bring me to my knees?
The Beachland Ballroom, pretty much had me in tears.
I've never fallen as hard for a band than Idles
so thankful for this band, found them when i was in a dark place. sharing with my friends leading to a show in denver was awesome, thanks idles!
After year of regular listening it is still one of my best favourite music live performance. Just perfect balance of technical control and animal explosiveness. My best regards from suffering Ukraine❤🖤
may your people be blessed with victory, then peace.
I really hope they make these audios into an EP, they sound so fucking good
i beg thee
I am 58 and this Band is my New love!!!!!!!!!
Awesome !
Seconded
The music is very good, the forced anger is a bit cringey.
@@paulw6183 Forced anger? Nothing here is forced, man. These gentlemen are wholly dedicated to their craft & talk about issues that are near and dear to their hearts. Read any of their lyrics. It's as sincere as sincerity gets, honestly.
@@bjscarberry2927
What have they really got to be angry about?
19:08, EPIC. They comunicate throw eye contact. Incredible.
First time listing to a band like this and I'm blown away !!!!!!!! Brilliant Band, great taste. !!!!!!!
They are just geting better and better every time, Joe´s voice somehow keeps that punk bizarre tone but notisable improve from the last album. The audio engeneer is a genius. Hopefully this came out as an EP.
19:00-19:20...whole band eyes on the drummer, who's just conducting the energy of the moment...fucking gold.
holy s, I didn't notice but the energy in those seconds it's intense
I'm just happy that this kind of music is created. It warms my heart to see so many people enjoy it even though it's raw and rough. Thank you for enriching our lives, because you do. Love!
I like to visit the comment section and read the admiration of fellow IDLES fans like myself. I love this band with my whole heart and I'm so happy so many share my sentiment. The greatest band in the f***king world! Long live, IDLES.
They're not bad are they.
Seeing them in October in Wellington Nz ...Counting the days mate... I need that rhythm section live in my ears 💪
