@@lfcwilli call me a snob but i think idles really fell off. brutalism was one of the best punk records of the decade but they just kept loosing it more with each release.
This is the first time I've come across Squid and I was glued to this. Just incredible focus and tonal range. So much to love about these lads. This new season of From the Basement is blowing my mind quite frankly !
Yes!! Idles are bloody great, I've discovered both in the last 12 months and I truly believe we are currently living in the best period for music yet. Every single day I'm discovering amazing new artists and it brings me so much joy. I highly recommend checking out the bands Black Country New Road, Black Midi and Dry Cleaning as well if you're not familiar ☺️
Came back to this since the new record dropped, love that the sweet opening riff on Pamphlets here became a full song in After the Flash. Such an incredible band
At the end of 2021 I got to see these guys at the Empty Bottle in Chicago. Quite possibly one of the the best gigs I have ever been to.I have been going to gigs for over 30 years.
You can’t overstate how good these guys are, when I saw their name come up on the basement I knew it was gonna be something else, you guys killed it as always 🙏
So glad more people are getting acquainted with them, great band with a long way to go which makes them even more exciting. Plus these new live renditions just prove me point.
Heh, so, i was at a festival earlier this year where Squid were playing, and the next day Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood's (and Nigel Godrich's, who, i think, produces the Basement sessions?) band The Smile were playing. The singer from squid said he'd love to see them but that he also feels intimidated because they are like Squid -- but much better. I think considering Nigel invited them to the Basement, the guys in the Smile probably wouldn't agree with that.
Really like that intro to pamphlets. Hope to see Squid experiment with different sounds in the future. They're a band that could just as easily put out an instrumental album. Talented lads
OMG what a performance! I had never heard of them before I saw this as a link from WeTransfer! Such great band and the fact they’re signed to Warp makes them even cooler! 🤩
With this quantity of equipment, pedals, and effects, still sounding like a studio recording, means each member is operating with at the very least two brains worth of human being
I fell out of love with music quite a while ago. Squid are bringing me right back in. Pretty much every song is a belter. I can't understand why their RUclips posts have so few views.
Unreal levels of tightness and energy as always. Songs seem to be getting better and better, this GSK is the best i've heard, i prefer to the album mix. Love you squiddy boys.
Everything about this set is amazing. But, I think the most impressive thing about this is the fact that the drummer/singer doesn't catch the mic with his sticks even once.
So crazy to hear the beginnings of After The Flash here, needs to be labelled!! Makes me think this song was somewhat of a centerpiece of the new album. Not gonna lie but the albums version doesn't come close to their live capabilities. I don't mind that though. Long live Squid
yet more interesting things come from this channel, thanks for giving this old fart something to gawp at at perhaps maintain a modicum of hope for music. as ever the vision editing is crucial as an insight for people who cannot see the band live, like me overseas... credit to that... as an old fart i'd also like to say that this band sound exactly how i perceive like the old beauties, (place your comparison here) to have sounded if they could have played a little better and had all those lovely little electricity soundy boxes that make mmm noise. these lads probe we have to imagine no more - their is a confidence and vigour i like a lot excellent music sound and production x

I think their keys player isn't spoken about enough, the variation of layers and textures he adds to each song are just phenomenal.

Mate he's incredible
Shout out arthur fr, he creates their sound
his work on Narrator is fucking wild
Arthur is amazing!
i've always loved squid since i heard bright green field, but i never realized the singer was also the drummer. how could it get any cooler?
He's so dynamic too, adds a ton of energy and awesome
Honestly very cool. Percussive inclinations do favors for the singing. Not to mention all the other interesting things
Squid is without a doubt one of the best live bands working in the underground today
It makes sense then, to play from the basement
They’re really not. No melody. Kitsch at best. Not much else.
@MaxSilver For sure, im really down for a live album

Britain is on fire in many ways right now.
Don't forget Dry Cleaning too! ☺️
For a lot of musicians, this is the equivalent of appearing on The Simpson
The Simpson
Oh, you mean Morgan
This version of pamphlets blows the studio version out of the water geez
I'll die happy if I ever get to see Pamphlets live.
Unbelievable wasn't it. Hope they play it just like that in Brighton.
saw them in toronto, truly one of the best bands to experience live
I watched it them play it live in Vancouver. It was awesome. And I died happy.
I'm a happy ghost now.
Seen them in Lille, France. Best gig of my life. I am a sound designer btw.
Seen them twice in Bristol now! Up there in my top 5 gigs I've been to
The instrumental before Pamphlets appears now to be the song After the Flash on their new album
the best basement sesh since in rainbows
The idles set for me
TKOL for me
And Warpaint’s session was really quite good

Brilliant. Proggy, noisy, uninhibited. Love it.
Holy shit what an experience, i love how the bassist is always smiling like "holy shit we are good"
Laurie is very wholesome!
This is the second band this year I’ve heard about because of this series, other being idles, that instantly went into my rotation
Came here to say this. That idles set will go down in history as an all-time great.
me too bruh
Amen to the Idles.

Well that was sensational. I only wish it'd been twice as long.
The sound of Squid is so freakin powerful...we are waiting for you here in Mexico!
Best FTB since In rainbows. This is generational talent.
No idea that Ollie Judge was a singing drummer! Love this group even more now
That intro to Pamphlets is mint.
The gentle owl hoot when Ollie appears screaming into the mic at 0:11 is a fantastic moment
One of those bands that make you proud to be part of British music... One of the best new bands in the world in my opinion.
Black midi and Black Country way better tho 👀
@@kevinschulze5258 my brother music is not a competition

Never a bad set at From The Basement. Squid delivers.

Do you have any news about it ?
And this is only their first album wtf ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

This is going to be unbelievable

Utterly compelling. A fantastic performance.
these dudes have one of the most interesting sounds around these days. so fuckin cool
BLACK SQUIDI NEW ROAD PLS
SQUID is what happens when you mix Talking Heads, Rage Against the Machine and Radiohead.
Throw in XTC and Gang of Four and you are bang on
I get a lot of B-52s as well
Thank you for this! I've been wanting more live footage of Squid. They are the show I most want to see and I hope they're back in the U.S. soon
