Beyond the fact that this is “peak art” as someone else commented, how about dude here’s vocal control while thrashing a kit? Perfect delivery while basically running on a treadmill, while knowingly being live broadcasted and later uploaded to KEXP. Fucking legend.
As someone who can't drum or sing, I'm always thoroughly impressed by those that can do both. This guy though... peak performance while doing insane cardio and nonchalantly wearing a thick woolen sweater and a sailor cap... dude's a litteral machine. has to be. Don't let this guy do the olympics is what I'm saying, it wouldn't be fair to anyone else.
I used to work in a busy recording studio and have seen many, many bands. Drummers who do lead vocals are very rare, and to it that well is just something special. Guys your music is excellent.
I heard a few KEXP live shows like that and she never actually said something like that. I think she was geniuley struck by them, they are indeed something else in my opinion.

There is something insane happening here in the UK in the past 5 or so years and going strong. Maybe the hopelessness that is felt in this island by people of the age range of all these band members is driving some unhinged creative superhigh. There's nothing really to lose, so throw it all out there peeps. The only reason I live in London is the music scene, honest to god. Also, whatever KEXP is paying Kevin Suggs, it will never be enough. Every session with him as the sound engineer sounds out of this world. You could release all the KEXP sessions onto physical media and they'd be must-owns.
I hear that there is a lot happening in Reading, Kill Committee, The Remones tribute band? I think the world needs a fresh start with music 🎶! Squid has something going here! 🤔!!
It really is insane the quality of bands coming out of the UK right now. Black Midi, IDLES, Squid are all beyond nuts in their own way. I really look forward to what is to come for the music scene of the british isles.

Been saying it a long time - KEXP live sessions and engineering are the best in the world and that performance was off the planet. As someone else said when Cheryl who has seen that many top bands says it is one of the best performances she has ever seen and is really moved by it you know you are seeing something very special.
You're very, very welcome @Gareth Johnson! Kevin, Tom, and indeed all the engineers and crew at KEXP are wonderful to work with. Whenever I walk in their doors, I know it's gonna be a fun and friendly session. Honestly, I still get more jitters stepping up to that broadcast desk than I've gotten from pretty much any venue desk in years. Mixing this Fall tour was the most consistently good time I've had on the faders since since live music all but died in early 2020, and having it documented in this KEXP session is the icing on the cake.
I get this overwhelming wake up call of my mortality when I listen to these guys. I’ve also never heard a more important and practical use of the triangle.
I'm just overwhelmed, link the presenter says: it's an incredible mix, beautiful sound. It demands your full attention. In my experience it usually goes one of three ways: drone noise, incredibly difficult dissonance or complex but fairly simple (banal) weiving. Not in this case, they manage to keep it all at 120%, never easy, never tiring, never banal. Incredible discovery, i hope they continue on this journey for a long time!
I listen to squid at least once a day since bright green field came out. Had no idea that would be the case, I love these dudes charisma and ability to be completely in tune with one another, and still comes off so refreshing and inspiring to any and all musicians. Shouts to KEXP !
Saw them and met them in person five years ago in Brighton at The Hope and Ruin and told them you are going to go the best of the best in music in the times to come. Everything was already there. We were around 30 people in the room. They were.supporting Tracy Bryant...... What a night.
I saw them live for the first time last night. I pretty much had an out of body experience while at the same time stifling a constant panic attack from the absolute wall of sonic energy they produced through out the set. It was an absolute joyous privilege to witness this avalanche of beautifully sequenced melodic chaos. They are bright sparkling diamonds amongst mud molecules.
Madmen. Absolute madmen the lot of them. But they’re all so freakin talented and unique. I loved when Oliver started briefly playing the drums with his foot and while standing up! Thank you for this wonderful performance!
all these dudes are so immensely likeable and down to earth, which makes the brilliance of the music they create so much more enjoyable. I can think of a few bands that carry themselves as if they know they’re creating something brilliant and come off as smug about it, and the music those kind of people make is always more mediocre than they think it is. a good heart goes a long way and these guys all have it.
Not strange if you listen to much alternative music. Check out Modest Mouse, Talking Heads, Gang of Four all of whom Squid draws major influences with their sound.
@@ElishaDavid Well if they sound like those 2 bands you mentioned then those 2 bands are influenced by the 3 bands I mentioned who are old school bands from the '70s, 80s & '90s who have influenced tons of bands since. Check them out, they are iconic.

This was the first time i saw/heard something from this band. And omg this was unbelieveable. what a great sound, what atmosphere these guys create! And i really love this voice of the singer.
