this is so sooo good and unique, maybe even better than bright green field?! i'm not sure. anyways, thank you Squid, for all the amazing amazing music you've given us!!
Three songs in, already said "holy shit" out loud four times. Edit: finished it. The "holy shit" recurred a couple more times, after a while it kinda went without saying. I think this album is a grower, lots of weird sounds and cool grooves, but also surprisingly some very beautiful moments, which I didn't immediately get on Bright Green Field. I'm not gonna give it a numerical score, i'm just going to say i really liked it and found it exciting, a worthy follow-up and in my opinion a cool development of the band's style and tone.
It amazes me that people will claim this and that album is the best album 'ever' after listening to it once on the first day of its release. Never fathomed that one out. The same as people who do the same but dismiss an album after one listen. I guess it's indicative of this world we live in of a need for instant gratification (getting served quickly at McDonalds and eating your order as quickly as possible). Some of my favourite albums are ones that i had to listen to for a few weeks before they started to click. I'm still letting O Monolith creep into my subconscious, and I'm still hearing new things and not comparing it to Bright Green fields.
Late-ass reply but I'm only now really getting O Monolith. Took me almost 6 months after I first listened to it to come back, and only after a few more listens did it click - but now it has I'm listening to it a lot, it's such a rewarding record.
O, Amazing! Something magic happened yesterday listening to this, i though: i would really love to see them live and looked for tickets. Found out that they will be in Milano in september and instantly got ticket with immense joy. Will wait for you there, like a stone!
These guys have bled their sig sound into orchestral inbetweens. The sound is dynamic and intricate while also being incredibly understated. Like those four irreverent places with sillouette portraits can almost converge the typical post punk geo location, as something implacable against the idylic or engineered: same same. Idk. Musing. But its definitely their most ambitious album, in an incredibly wild time. Did they go too epic with their sound? Or did they manage to understate it and hold it down, as these are crazy times. Or so i hear.
Cool, but disappointing. A lot of the songs are unfocused, they are great but they just take aimless ideas in the majority of the tracks. I think that the singles and Green Light are the most consise ones. Also, I think it just sounds a lot like Radiohead, and After The Light and the Swimming Bull have this Swans(in the seer era) progressions. Still great but I was expecting aoty material from the guys
I agree, the songs are very unique and some tracks are amazing but their sound is kind of all over the place, even if it’s supposed to be experimental Update: After re listening I can confirm that this album does grow on you. Although I still dislike certain sounds, if you really listen and grow to appreciate the more disonante and abstract Melodies in this album, the better of an experience it is.
About thirteen minutes into the album and I was like "this is incredible but where's the Primus?" And then I was immediately answered when Undergrowth began
This album is such a grower. I've been listening to it nonstop these past few weeks!!!! I have to say I love it even more than bright green field. Every track on here is something really special :*) Needless to say I've already bought tickets to see yall in my city!! Love 4 ever くコ:彡くコ:彡くコ:彡
@@_amp1262 You're right, @_amp, the label "Brit-Pop" is not really appropriate. It was used, nevertheles, in different times, describing different sounds. You can't really put the bands from 1964-1966 in the same bucket, like those from 1980-1983, or those from the Mid-1990ties. But for all, in all these periods, the title "Brit-Pop" had been used as brandmark-label. But of course, see also my comment here below, SQUID is not really POP-Music.

They are incredible live, one of the best acts I've ever seen

Preferite questo o il loro album precedente?
What is the link with mgs?
theremins are so quirky haha what if we were like squeaky talking radioheads with junkyard vibes
What happened to the original?
after the flash was bugged and started over in the middle of the song
A bit reminiscent of Led Zeppelin’s seventh is it not??
reminds me more a of a maximalist version of deceit by this heat

It might sounds strange, but they recall me "COLOSEUM", that group from the 1960ties and 1970ties, with Greenslade, Hiseman & Heckstall-Smith.
Squid Slay
Squid is revelation. Heard this album 2 times in a row .
What would Phillip Glass think of this
За монолит!
Get it going…
8/10 this is fun!! Was on the fence with the last project but after hearing this i wanna check it out again. This album is quite good.
SQUID is certainly one of the most impressive and innovative Brit-Pop Groups of these last years, let's say 2019 - 2023.
I like to hear them !
I don't think it's britpop to be honest, maybe influenced by it
