I know exactly how the song progresses, and have no idea what's actually going on in the music video, and still, somehow, the countdown kept me on the edge of my seat
Someone was dry blowing their hair when I watched this, so it was more like a silent movie. But, having worked in a government office before I can confirm that the depiction of the lady at the desk, or rather her approach to work, is a very accurate depiction. Thumbs up.

I honestly have a kind of mini existential break down every time I watch this, and I'm okay with that.
Squid es uno de los más sorprendentes grupos del nuevo post-punk británico, su excelente debut "Bright Green Field" (2021), había dejado las expectativas muy altas, así que el enigmático "O Monolith" venía lastrado por la curiosidad y el análisis pormenorizado, todo para garantizar que su éxito temprano no era sólo fruto de la casualidad. Lo cierto es que la banda de Brighton se han asentado como una de las más interesantes del momento, algo que ratifica su segundo álbum, donde muestran su perfil más expansivo, ese rock experimental que estremece al ofrecer oníricas bases electrónicas con delirantes arreglos de viento y febriles guitarras. No preguntes por qué, pero convencen a pesar de esa turbadora emergencia o precisamente por ello. Sus armonías disonantes y ritmos asincrónicos, les pueden convertir en tipos raros, pero la belleza se esconde en ocasiones en recodos imposibles. A pesar de todo "O Monolith" es un disco más accesible.
Squid son desquiciantes y adorables gracias a ese sonido asfixiante y adictivo como un mantra. "O Monolith" es cualquier cosa menos convencional. Han parido un disco soberbio y lleno de personalidad.

where do u situate it? to me it's really in the way they structure instruments/rhythmical sections and use voice which define their style, probably re-defining Byrne's interpretation of music.
@@melodiessouterraineslate-n5311 Yeah, I totally agree... also Ollie's vocal delivery really does evoke David Byrne as well - tho in particular I find the electronic noises at 0:58 are reminiscent of the effects used in songs in Remain in Light like Listening Wind or Born Under Punches

@@Rukimix Yeah, there's a definite King of Limbs / HTTT vibe to the whole song too, especially the guitars (2+2 = 5 comes to mind)... The electronic drums right at the start are very Radiohead too
That's it... I'm going right now to fix the mistake I've made by not yet having preordered the o monolith coloured vinyl.
IMO ya'll deserve to be quite a bit more popular for how consistently your tunes hit, like not naming any names but there's other bands in your lane who are way less consistent but receive way more buzz. Regardless, this tune goes in.

This will sound like an odd thing to praise but compared to some other post-punk acts like Black Country New Road or Black Midi what is most interesting is how much Squid sounds like a rock band underneath all the artistyness.
Like the first two bands too but its nice to find a way to break the mold without becoming getting close to being Baroque pop or Jazz Rock.
This video is pretty much exactly what it feels like to sign on at the Job Centre. I hope I never have to do so again in the near future.
