They 💯 live deep inside him. I'll be 40 this year, and I'm not ashamed to say that Ive been brought to tears more than once, just listening to this emotion and conviction, when performing.
the rhythms and chords, are there so well and intensely lived in his work that everything is creating a continued new transgressive horizon, or becoming, or alignment, always more and more pluridimensional organics from raw flesh and bone, through (dis)harmonies and voicings and wording, every time I come back I always get immersed and feel a part of it, and then leave and let go, all this impact flowing through all arteries and veins, and every cell becomes more alive and is living a/the more and more perfect circle but each time a little different, how well "everything is not in its right place", and that's ok, water is still wet, but if in each time a different water you'll always feel living through his art in expressing emotions and keep you in a kind of hipnotic moment or something, anyway, circle is perfect (or not!) 💯🍉🍓🍒🍅🍎🍉
When I see Thom Yorke sing and play an instrument, his movements I try to imagine how many things are happening inside his thoughts, he gets lost in something perhaps quite personal, He is an incomparable man, I stop everything to see him
Actually what makes him so great is not that he is lost in his thoughts. He's inside the music he plays with all his spirit. That's what makes it so special..
I don’t think Thom’s piano playing is recognized enough. Such a unique style and phrasing to the way he plays, very driven by left hand chord movement. I can almost always recognize a song he’s written before he even starts singing.
honestly. i think he's a bad singer and piano player. don't get me wrong. i really like radiohead and his solo stuff, but if this would be a unknown artist, he would be shredded to bits by reviewers (if they would).
@@TheHabiat i see what you mean by that, but there is a strict difference between uniquity and mediocrity. Thom might not be able to play Chaikovsky concerto no 2, or reach all the notes of “Time to say goodbye” but nobody can deliver a performance of Radiohead and Thom Yorke’s music as mindblowing as Thom himself.
@@TheHabiat I can see what you mean by “bad piano player” (although I don’t think you can call it bad in particular), cause even Chris Martin from Coldplay can play much more difficult pieces, but singer? What makes you think that? He has very beautiful strong voice, I enjoy his live performances and I wouldn’t like Radiohead so much if it wasn’t about his voice, his range is also pretty high. “Bones” is very hard song to sing, for example, and Exit Music is known for its beautiful climax. It isn’t mediocre. I’m just curious why would you think that.
For the past 5 months I've been watching this video constantly. It's the closest thing I have to a "faith" because of how spacial this video is, how personal it is.
3:35 Thom had the hidden syncopation of Videotape worked out even here, back in 2005. See his foot tapping the real downbeats in double-time; it's audible if you listen close.
I’m pretty sure in an interview I read that it was Jonny that was obsessed with the syncopation. Thom imagined it as a different song, but Jonny and I think Phil stayed in the studio and stripped everything out to what it finally became. Possibly read that in the king of gear site.
@@andrewlarking7492 Thom has a firm grasp of the syncopation here, two years before the album's release and a year before Bonnaroo, so I'm going to venture a guess that he spawned the idea and the rest of the band loved it since they're all music nerds.
Even better -- he's not just foot tapping, he using the piano sustain pedal in a very subtle way, in addition to reinforcing the downbeats. What's interesting is this recording dates from the period before they dropped the double time section in _Videotape_, so this version without the rest of the band actually sounds more like the double time-less version that eventually appeared on _In Rainbows_.
Analyse - what have I been doing all of these years without this masterpiece in a steady rotation. What a gift I’ve been given. It’s like discovering the live version of Like Spinning Plates all over again.
The live version of Analyse at the Mercury music awards 2006 (vid is on youtube) he does longer extra special vocals. This version is great. That version is better.
The level of production to capture every aspect of Thom’s voice and the piano here really is unparalleled. An absolute master class. Bravo Nigel. Then there’s the music itself 😮
Every key pressed, every note, every word sang, every whisper. Pure magic from one of the most important and influential musicians of the last 25 years. His work is a major influence on me. If I could write one song that is half of what he does... Thank you, Thom for this.
This is pure gold. Every note hits you straight in the heart. I’ve been listening to TY/RH for about 30 years now and, far from growing tired, their music hits me harder as times goes by. His/their musical talent is just overwhelming.
Love the subtle addition of Thom using the piano pedals in videotape, adding that beautiful metronomic beat to the overall mix. Amazing. Probably my favourite version of this song.
When I listen to this video, there is no thom yorke, there is no piano, just an inexplicable feeling happens inside, almost as if me and the world had no problems, it's like abstracting from reality for a few minutes, and entering a beautiful and inspiring reality.
1994- Radiohead came up on my radar coz I was watching a lot of MTV, loads of music and videos. I was a young wife and mother at the time and eventually watched less and less tv.
