Short story. 2007, I came back from a night clubbing in London around 4am. Put on a radio show called The Blue Room which played an eclectic mix for chill out. Fell asleep. In my dreams I heard the most beautiful song and saw pictures to it. When I woke up I had to find out what it was. Listened to the online stream of the show and as soon as it came on I had goosebumps. It remains a significant moment of discovery for me and will always take me back. The song was Heartbeats - Jose Gonzales
Looove that one. It was used in an ad for a TV a solid 15-odd years ago when I was at school and it caught my attention so well that I learned to play the guitar part by ear without even knowing at first what the song was called.

Got introduced to him in 2010 with RDR when first entering Mexico. I never thought a videogame moment would stick so much with me. I think that was the first game that made me that happen, and this man one of the reasons. 10 years later, I am still following him.
Exactly! After riding into Mexico was the most awestruck I've ever been with a video game, mostly in part by his song. The next day I bought all of José's music and it's in my music rotation at least once a week since. I wish he'd record more.
Back when I was struggling with insomnia I would take large amounts of diphenhydramine and put on Jose Gonzales records and have extremely weird experiences. I'm better now but the feeling of skin-crawling drowsiness comes back whenever I hear his guitar. Melatonin is great kids.
@@slash196 Yeah I've tried it for years. No luck unfortunately. I'm on ambien now. They work sometimes. Usually just make me feel worse though. Thankfully it's not a every night thing. Sometimes I sleep like a baby.
That's magic. To his thumb up at the end to get some approval, I would have respond:"Sorry, didn't record because I thought it was just rehearsal... let's do it again!"

The band - The Darkness - huddled around a campfire in tattered leopard-print spandex, each chewing on one of your arms and legs. They wipe the grease from their lips with spandex-clad arms before going in for another bite. “Don’t let The Darkness eat you up.”
These are all beautiful songs off his best album but I wish it wasn't so short, and I wish he included Teardrop and/or Cycling Trivialities. Fantastic performance nonetheless.
It was probably at least 10 years ago he had this short hair ;) This is 13 years ago, to be exact; all the songs are from his second album, released that year (2007).
Don't forget: 2:03 - How Low Does anyone know the date of this? It's all from 'In Our Nature' so I guess it was a few years before the upload date, but Google tells me nothing.

3 minutes in, first time ever listening to this guy, can already see myself listening for a long time after today
He's incredible. I had the pleasure of seeing him live about a year ago. It's one of the best shows I've ever been to.
Welcome to the club.
His first two albums are fantastic. First one in particular.

He should make a new album

You go 'from the basement'!
Him and James Taylor need to get together... the colossal acoustic jam potential of that gives me a renob!!! Peace and love always and never.
He's way too good for James Taylor. He is a far better guitarist and vocalist. Sorry. James was okay but not out of this world, like Gonzalez is!!
Bravo!
dont let the darkness eat you up
That right hand! He's playing simple chords & sounds like a couple of guitarists & a percussionist
