He basically has two microphones to mix... The sound is good and all, but you don't exactly need a college degree to acheive the sound mix in this performance ;)
I did monitors for Jose Gonzales at a festival last year. His FOH engineer really did a great job, and I must say even doing monitors its really nice to be able to hone in and focus on the low channel count to get the best out of each source.
That's because they were not drinking. I think drinking and eating during a show like this should be prohibited, just like Kings of convenience use to do on their presentations. It's respectful with all the efforts to compose such subtle melodies and for us to hear them just like the composer want us to do.
I've been in a little venue in Duncan, Vancouver Island, were things are like that, they live stream everything also, it call's Duncan Showroom lot of good live shows there too.

I’ve likely heard every song Jose has written from my ex girlfriend playing his music constantly. I always liked his music but never let the need to listen to him on my own time since he was always there with us. Now she’s gone, on an island on the other side of the world back where she came from, and I’m here with Jose, and that’s alright. Some things you just can’t shake.
Guitars: González plays an Alhambra classical guitar onstage and Alhambra, Esteve, and Córdoba classicals while recording. Amps: for live performances, a Fishman Prefix Pro Blend in the Alhambra. When performing solo, he also plays into whatever condenser mic the venue supplies. Strings: La Bella polished nylon, high tension. Capo: Shubb C5 partial. Picks: González plays only with his fingernails, reinforced with a nail strengthener.[15] González consistently uses 'altered' guitar tunings in his tunes, de-tuning the 6th (E) string down to D for all his songs, with the 3rd (G) string altered between F#, G and A from tune to tune (e.g. A in his cover of Hand on Your Heart and F# in Heartbeats.) He does the retuning himself during live performances rather than using three different guitars on stage.
How is it that all KEXP versions sound better than the original no matter who is playing. You guys are amazing. Thanks for this channel and for every video you put up so meticulously recorded.
I was looking for some relaxing music to listen to while working, but this performance grabbed my full attention and had my heart hammering in my chest the entire time. He's so amazing.

You’ve failed for so long that you’ve forgotten how to live feeling successful, feeling like you don’t need to prove anything to anyone else anymore. . You should start to look up to the sky. Every day. Enjoy the trees, the flowers, your family and your cat. Enjoy your guitar and singing practice. Create with love and not with desperation. Leave anxiety and all your fears behind. Be grateful for this specific day that has given you so much. You live with comfort and peace. . Back in my past I used to reconsider my whole life, every week or may be every two days. I knew I was not living the right life for me. It took me more than a decade of trying and quitting to figure out a way to live a life that suited my soul. . If you are reconsidering your life, I believe in you.

I'm super impressed by how quickly and accurately he tunes his guitar. I've been a fan for 15 years now and the man still inspires me. I hope you've used the pandemic to write some new stuff Jose! Your fans are eager!
He plays with different tuning on the same guitar... So he get used to tune his guitar to every song he plays. Other guitarist prefers to switch on another guitar with a different tuning...
His voice is like food for my soul. I return to his music whenever I am feeling low. Without fail, his music uplifts me. I feel this connection to something bigger!
One of my first musical loves. 16 year old, queues outside in the cold Manchester rain to get to the front of one of his gigs. Brilliant memories. I agree as well, he’s a humble artist never shows off, just turns up and does the job and melts faces.

he has a way of making a really vibrant and whole sound with his guitar, great finger picking also, he's one of those musicians that sound great on their own acoustically, simply one man and a guitar is all you need and he pulls it off so well.
Well said. I'm seeing him by himself in August. I'm super pumped about it. I think he sounds better by himself also. His guitar always has that driving beat. So damn good!
The sound guy should get a raise ..
I’m guessing you like the job he did, but what you suggest sounds like he doesn't get paid enough and therefore does a bad job.
