This album reminds me of San Diego and when my dad moved there after losing the house. We moved in with his high school friend, who became paraplegic from a dirt bike accident early in life. He was listening to this and Rogue Wave. I was familiar with Hail to the Thief already but this reminds me so much of that time. Later we were kicked out. My dad hasn’t spoken to him since -I don’t think. I haven’t spoken to my dad in three years. So this music is nostalgic with so many mixed memories. The pain of what it must be like to be lonely and disabled. The sorrow from losing our home. The dread of having chaos and conflict follow my family- interwoven with the excitement of a new place and the solace of a warm San Diego night.
This was recorded 12 years ago? I can no longer tell the difference between the past and the present. Digital technology means that history will forever be contemporary from now on.
Great point. Around the time of this recording seems to be about the cusp of that development. Then again, a lot of artists seem to counteract that by consciously employing outdated technologies.
I agree wholeheartedly!! I can't understand how some people compare them to Coldplay!!! Chris Martin can only dream that he could sing like Thom. Coldplay, at best are average. I did like Yellow Thom and Radiohead are levels above Coldplay. Sorry Chris....
Suede are better ! The last 2 radiohead albums have been average where suede are just getting better with every release. In rainbows was radioheads last great album.
The King of Limbs - From the Basement sessions is even better, actually. Every album they release, imo, is better than the last. They only improve upon their own perfection. I simply don't understand how so many people who love these guys hate TKOL, it's mind-boggling.
@@yargnad Because TKOL (and much of what has followed through to Smile) has transitioned into jam band Radiohead. It's now solidly bending post-rock. It's not for me on the whole, but selections from it are .. tolerable. ;)
@@SamHopkinsSAH They've really only transitioned to playing what would have been electronic loops, on previous albums, with guitars and bass, which I feel is brilliantly executed. I don't see them as a jam band so much because they don't stray from the plot into improvisation. It's basically loose fragments that comprise a layered mosaic of sound in a very intentional way. Besides, there's nothing wrong with post rock.
Man, every time I listen to this set I cry with happiness, this is a masterpiece in so many ways. The virtuosity in each composition is beyond my understanding.
in rainbows has so many of my genuine favorite moments in music, as well as a couple of my favorite pieces in their entirety. when the bass kicks in on weird fishes, when johnny's guitar goes clean in bodysnatchers, that literally heavenly rising coda to reckoner, itself probably the single piece of music in the entirety of the medium which is my favorite... this is such a magnificent musical accomplishment that i've rarely failed to come back to for any period of time over a DECADE. this album helped me survive some truly gnarly stuff. the whole "play this at my funeral" thing is trite. i'm going to play this album throughout my whole life, and i'll celebrate it as long as i live.
My favorite album by my favorite band. I've been listening to this album almost every day since 2009. What makes me feel more affection when listening to it are the memories of my adolescence... through the window and saw a huge garden with a huge cashew tree. I loved when there were tropical storms with winds, I saw the garden get wet and writhe in the middle of the storm… it was very introspective. I could spend all day like this. Until my mommy came to call me and ask if I'm okay, because I've been listening to “sad and depressing” songs in my room for hours, lol. God, how I miss her and that time.
Videotape is such an underrated, tricky bastard of a song. Probably for the best, they're in an almost studio-like environment where there isn't any audience clapping to throw them off. And don't get me started on the drum patterns on 15 Step! So much went into this one album, it's crazy.
wow, you're entire universe is about to be upended. This set just scratches the surface. I envy the trek you are about to take into all things Radiohead.
No. Ok Computer was their masterpiece (if you're into applying those kind of absurd labels for some ridiculous reason). Objectively they peaked with OKC, Kid A / Amnesiac, Hail, and In Rainbows.
Damn I love Johnny's playing style! When he's really going off he's like a guy at his wits end trying to start a stubborn gas chainsaw! All with his expert feel for a completely quirky feeling riff. And with Ed I'm always surprised realizing the parts he plays. He compliments Thom's parts so well. They all have such enormous impact that it wouldn't be Radiohead if any of them left. I pray that never ever happens. May they write and record till the day I die. P.S. Thom went a little nuts on Myxomatosis! Love it!
Same for me. I've loved them since Pablo Honey but oddly, I can't listen to any of the early records because as they have evolved, so have I. Still the best - always will be.
One of those drummers whose appreciation tends to mostly come from other drummers. A typical example of his kind of drumming for me is Morning Bell from Kid A - it’s a very straightforward, hypnotic drum beat for basically the whole song, but the little variations he does are just genius, until the end where he kind of lets loose around that basic beat. And he is ROCK. SOLID. in everything he plays, a true human metronome. He’s not a Neil Peart or anything so his contributions would probably go unnoticed by most people who have a passing familiarity with Radiohead or rock percussion. He is great though.
And to the surprise of no one, Radiohead prove they could've recorded In Rainbows live off the floor perfectly. The talent of this band still blows me away.
@@nvrmor023 you are all over these replies spewing this BS without offering any proof whatsoever. Of course the sound is post produced, like in every single one of these session. It is a LIVE STUDIO recording, if you know what that means. And it is live and clear as day for whoever has eyes t see and ears to hear. There are little imperfections throughout and you can see them happen and hear them.
For the first time in (it would age me) years, the lyrics of Weird Fishes (the last verse) hit me like no other lyric has. “I’ve hit the bottom but escaped” Wow. I’m there right now. About to make an escape.
I swear... That song "videotape" makes me feel an amazing amount of JOY, and the next moment be moved to tears almost everytime whenever i listen to this whole concert. When the verse says: " this is my way of saying goodbye.... Because i know today has been the most perfect day ive ever seen" and the way the music and sound becomes so mystical and beautiful, its mezmerizing.
This album means for me the initiation to the world of Radiohead. I remember the long hot summer of 2008 when the during night walks I endlessly listened the Nude, the 15 Step, the House of Cards... What times were they!
I've been listening to this recording for years now and it never ceases to amaze me. Specially that short break from 42:04 on... It's breathtaking. I just hope they keep playing together for a very long time.
Radiohead ... an example of artists in a state of flow in communion with their element: the music and its mystique. No room for labels, egos or formats, ..., just individuals exploring and playing with the diversity that the spaces of silence provide.
This band has so much potential, I hope they move out of the basement soon

Had this come up on Autoplay and I thought I was listening to studio tracks
It does sound impressively clean
nah idk really unique renditions of songs live can be really cool in its own way. not everythin has to be a replication to be good
when he said wawawaaaah at 10:50 i really felt that in my heart
No matter how my day’s gone or what disagreements there are going on in the world, I can receive a dose of ecstasy by listening to In Rainbows.
Man, there really isn't a band like this one out there.
I agree wholeheartedly!! I can't understand how some people compare them to Coldplay!!! Chris Martin can only dream that he could sing like Thom. Coldplay, at best are average. I did like Yellow Thom and Radiohead are levels above Coldplay. Sorry Chris....
@@sudanbewaobdedebo yellow is awesome but something about radiohead is ethereal
Suede are better ! The last 2 radiohead albums have been average where suede are just getting better with every release. In rainbows was radioheads last great album.
its just absolutely fucking fantastic that one of the gresatest albums of all time sounds IDENTICAL live to its studio recording. Talent. Pure talent.
I agree with you 😊
id say not identical but on the same level, since they like to add up thing or change sth a bit, which makes their music very alive and personal to me
@@sunbasil thank you radio head hed

These guys are like all the parts making one cell.
Incredible unity.
Thom is the mitochondria
@@rawrrawrpiggy the mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell
The groove that they switch into in Bodysnatchers at 11:48 hit me like a train. Huge fan of this performance 🤘
Chills man
Perfeitos 😍😍😍😍
I will never, ever tire of "In Rainbows". It's an absolute masterpiece. Perfection. Every. Single. Track. And this performance? Well...Jesus Christ!
ok computer is their best, but In Rainbows is my favorite.
The King of Limbs - From the Basement sessions is even better, actually. Every album they release, imo, is better than the last. They only improve upon their own perfection. I simply don't understand how so many people who love these guys hate TKOL, it's mind-boggling.
@@yargnadbloom live is peak man
@@yargnad Because TKOL (and much of what has followed through to Smile) has transitioned into jam band Radiohead.
I just saw the smile and I cried the whole show
Weird fishes is one of my favorites. Great version !
The Happiness of Fish
Me too. Want it played at my funeral. People will be happy and dancing.
@@masterninja9716 dk about for that song 😭
It's crazy soo few know how good this session really is. It's basically flawless concepts and soundscapes.
I love how rhythm - driven this album is, this is why its my favorite of them. In my opinion every song is brilliant. 10/10
in rainbows has so many of my genuine favorite moments in music, as well as a couple of my favorite pieces in their entirety. when the bass kicks in on weird fishes, when johnny's guitar goes clean in bodysnatchers, that literally heavenly rising coda to reckoner, itself probably the single piece of music in the entirety of the medium which is my favorite... this is such a magnificent musical accomplishment that i've rarely failed to come back to for any period of time over a DECADE. this album helped me survive some truly gnarly stuff. the whole "play this at my funeral" thing is trite. i'm going to play this album throughout my whole life, and i'll celebrate it as long as i live.
This is recorded and performed SO well, this could've been the album sound and atmosphere and I don't think anyone would complain.
2:35-3:15 Ed's wails get me every time.
"EEEEEEEEEEED"
HE's just yelling out his own name. lol
21:45 Perhaps their best live (albeit in-studio) performance of any song I've ever heard from the band. Thom's passion is just at 110% here.
The unison playing of bass, guitar and synth just blows me away. By far the loudest bit at the concert as well...epic.
🫂 caress you. We will all fall in the hands of God some day 🙏 ❤️🩹
reckoner is their most underrated song imo. yorke sings it so perfectly here
@Claidissa You are so right, thank you. Reckoner and House of Cards, two of my favorites, just perfect here
Nah, let down is more underrated imho
Love people commenting my favs as underrated. I'll add another Faust Arp and Lull, 2min wonders
Reckoner is by far and wide one of their least underrated songs, what planet are you living on?
@@JackMorgan06 who exactly is it rated by? it's not known by anyone except Radiohead fans, so how is it not underrated? twerp
This is just the most beautiful album I've ever listened to, period.
Yes
I dunno. OK Computer is fucking awesome too.
I love how deeply thom feels the music. It's how you know it's gonna be good
He moves the same way as I when I'm listening to their music
In Rainbows is a true masterpiece. This concert is wonderful. 🌈
Videotape is such an underrated, tricky bastard of a song. Probably for the best, they're in an almost studio-like environment where there isn't any audience clapping to throw them off. And don't get me started on the drum patterns on 15 Step! So much went into this one album, it's crazy.
Awe.... everyone in this band is at the top of their game... there a simply magic in a musical form.... simply amazing music...
I once saw a comment on a Radiohead video that went: "Radiohead makes sadness sound so good." But this video in particular makes me feel so good!!
yeah it's on sail to the moon isn't it?
@@imranbenabdeljalil6536 Yeh I think that's right! Couldn't, for the life of me remember which song it was.
I am so thankful that I have seen Radiohead live, but having recordings like this are priceless as well. I am so thankful.
haven't listened to radiohead much for a while and just sat here with my mouth hanging open for an hour. this is such a mesmerizing performance.
So crisp, so clean. Perfection if such a thing ever exists in live performances. You're doing god's work Nigel!
I met Nigel in Santa Barbara before their show last year and it's the only time I've ever been speechless around someone
"15 Step" and "Nude" are unreal. I would almost rather listen to this version of "Nude" than the album version.
Absolutely ♥️ 👍 🔝 🎙️ ♥️
I watched and listened with goosebumps all.over my body
Indeed , specially , nude , it's just awesome & insane both ...
The clave sound on the snare drum make me tingle inside with joy 😊
Weird Fishes was even better here than on the album smh
Watching this album being performed makes me appreciate it way more than I already did.
true!!!!!!! i love........... MID........... eohead 😆😆😆
exactly and they really seem to love perfoming it, yorke especially can't keep himself from dancing haha
The only song I knew of Radiohead's before was Creep and I almost didn't click on this video. That would have been a tragedy.
Definitely. Their Kid A album is wonderfully sublime as well
Bro, listen to OK computer and A Moon Shaped Pool , it will overwrite Creep in ur memory , LOL
wow, you're entire universe is about to be upended. This set just scratches the surface. I envy the trek you are about to take into all things Radiohead.
Start off with The Bends followed by In Rainbows.
I supremely hope you've consumed more radiohead in the past 2 weeks... What I wouldn't give to experience it all for the first time again.
These guys changed everything. Incredible.
They are untouchable.
i love how much colin enjoys 15 step, every time they play it it seems like hes having a blast
Literally teared up at the "bottom of the sea" lyric from Arpeggi... for no reason. I feel kinda crazy, thank you Thom
You are a rare one for holding the key to unlock the many realms of soul connection between human and music. Never lose the key.
I love most of their work but, still, "In Rainbows" is their true masterpiece to me.
Agreed!
Really, it's okay to say Ok Computer.
We don't have to pretend.
@@phant0mdummy indeed
@@phant0mdummy Nah, as much as I love OK Computer, In Rainbows still tops it for me. House Of Cards, Bodysnatchers and Reckoner? How can you top that?
Love it!
my fave Myxomatisis, just never can get enough
I just read that he did the Soundtrack for the movie There Will be Blood. Amazing talent!

Same for me. I've loved them since Pablo Honey but oddly, I can't listen to any of the early records because as they have evolved, so have I. Still the best - always will be.
His voice is like floating on a soft cloud.... feeling like you're in heaven.
The musicianship on show here is absolutely breathtaking. Honestly I'm gasping for breathe....Outstanding band.

THANK YOU FOR THIS! I had NO idea how much I needed this right now. from the bottom of my heart, thank you, thank you, thank you.
I love how much Ed loves being in this band
I love this version of “The Gloaming”. It’s haunting, understated, bespoke, and jazzy. The drums are a nice touch.
I loved the bass line of Colin but Jhonny's effects were like haunted puppets screeching in loop too jarring!
Philip Selway doesn't get anywhere near the Kudos he deserves. Absolute machine.
I'm listening from Brazil
I think i watch this video once every 3 months and everytime i come back to it, it confirms its status as best video on youtube
I only hope I’m still around when people realise just how important Radiohead were in musical history.
Luckily, I’m here living through it, now.
They're not even important in conventional history because they exist outside of it. They're in their own world
@@user-tf4ho2uo1e I love that comment. They do. No fucks given about musical trends etc. ‘we did it like that because we wanted to’ 👏🏻👏🏻
To me this is the BEST "from the basement" session and my favorite version of "In Rainbows"
This record blew my mind when I was 23. It blows my mind even more 13 years later. The musicality of these guys is simply unmatched.
to me their music is most complicated intricate yet so beautiful and all in place. the most transcended musicians in modern era imo
And to the surprise of no one, Radiohead prove they could've recorded In Rainbows live off the floor perfectly. The talent of this band still blows me away.
Watch it again, totally milli vanilli
@@nvrmor023 you are all over these replies spewing this BS without offering any proof whatsoever. Of course the sound is post produced, like in every single one of these session. It is a LIVE STUDIO recording, if you know what that means. And it is live and clear as day for whoever has eyes t see and ears to hear. There are little imperfections throughout and you can see them happen and hear them.
For the first time in (it would age me) years, the lyrics of Weird Fishes (the last verse) hit me like no other lyric has. “I’ve hit the bottom but escaped”
Wow. I’m there right now. About to make an escape.
I hope you were successful, or are about to be. You got this!!
This just feels the same for me
Perfect chemistry..NOT something that can be faked or drafted in a corporate board room!
Definitely not
This album means for me the initiation to the world of Radiohead. I remember the long hot summer of 2008 when the during night walks I endlessly listened the Nude, the 15 Step, the House of Cards...
What times were they!
'Scotch Mist' New Years was mystical
Just noticed how insane Colin's bass is on 15 Step. Intense and precise.

Radiohead ... an example of artists in a state of flow in communion with their element: the music and its mystique. No room for labels, egos or formats, ..., just individuals exploring and playing with the diversity that the spaces of silence provide.
