Thom Yorke - the mastermind Johnny Greenwood - the mad scientist Colin Greenwood - the backbone Philip Selway - the drum machine Ed O’Brien - the secret weapon
Radiohead is that rare band where each member's personalities and talents are showcased without resorting to having to show off or hog the spotlight. Ed, Phil, Jonny, Thom and Colin are all great talents and without all their collective talents Radiohead wouldn't be the awesome band they are.
possibly the best live recording session ever. every time I listen to it I cannot help but feel that little bit more complete. radiohead are more than just a band
If you like this, you NEED to check out Radiohead's Scotch Mist. Quality is not quite as good as it was an internet broadcast and the technology was different back then, but the performances are f'ing legendary.
It really hits me seeing comments made so long ago. Makes me think of the people who made them... wondering if they are still alive, how much they have changed over time, and if, by any chance, they remember making those comments. Weeks ago, I saw a comment I made nine years ago and it made me feel the actual heavy weight that the passage of time has. I know for sure that it will get harder in the future as time keeps passing.
These guys live in a pure music state of being. No one else (especially today) knows, feels, and lives the art side of music as much as these guys. To a point where you aren't just listening, its getting down to every bone in your body how good the audio your ears are taking in is. The way Thom and Johhny move and feel and live the music and let everything else go.... Pure. Music.
While OK Computer is regularly touted as Radiohead's "masterpiece," I honestly think In Rainbows is a master piece in it's own right.. call it their Dark Masterpiece. Everything from conception, to the way it was released, to the incredible breadth of amazing songs on it. Kid A is probably my all-time favorite, but In Rainbows gets my vote for crowning achievement.
@@prakharpant1711 All I need is darker than anything on OKC. I would argue OKC is more distrubing--granted we're kind of arguing semantics at this point though, but I do hear what you are saying.
You and I both, several days a week. As I have said in many places before, the release of this album saved me from my father's death. It came out almost a year after and I was drowning in grief. Then - In Rainbows. I was 26.
We're so lucky to have them and they're so lucky to have each other. It's not often that people get together on the same wavelength to produce something unique and so incredible. Long live Radiohead.
7:51 that is the face of someone who really enjoys his bass. all of them just make this music seem like their 2nd nature, and look like theyre enjoying it the whole time
i think it lacked of good lyrics , i mean , not that nude has a lot of words in its lyrics , but they're much better in my opinon i personally hate the ''she (i dont remember blaablaaablabal)''
this is the most beautiful live performance I have ever heard everything is so perfect the bass, drums and guitars most of all thom yorke's voice is so exquisite
Muse was pretty good before, now they are terrible. The Second Law is really bad, and it was quite unexpected for me that they just made an album like that. Until then they were among my favourite bands, but not anymore.
Whenever I can't sleep (which seems to be an ever increasing occurrence these days) I find myself here again. With Radiohead. In the hope that my brain just takes a fucking break for a while, and I can switch off whilst I float away to some enchanting place. Their music never fails to offer some degree of comfort. They're all bloody Gorgeous!
I love it when I miraculously stumble upon fantastic videos like this. Losing an hour of sleep is by far worth it for Radiohead--definitely time well spent.
This album is such a musical and emotional journey. It was definitely intended to be listened to from start to finish. In my opinion that's what makes for good music.
I can't remember if I've posted in this thread before but I have to say this is the finest, most influential musical recording post 1990... Thank you so much to DirecTV for paying for the studio and making this happen. You've contributed in bringing this beauty to the ears of the people and to the people of the future.
I love how Thom keeps moving and shakes his head all the time. My favorite song from this session is Reckoner I guess, it's such a complex song and is still perfect in all it's rhythms and melodies.
I thought someone was tricking me. I wouldn't allow myself to believe that you were actually back...so I typed in 'Radiohead from the basement' and well...the most gorgeous video has been put back on youtube. Now I can go back to watching Radiohead concerts at 2.00 am when my head won't allow me to sleep. Thank you AustinBrock...you wonderful man you.
Yeah man it's really mesmerizing when you have good headphones and good dope then the 3 guitars arpeggi totally torment you - can not unhear it. Great Song!
This is even better than the recorded versions of these songs! I love seeing how they play these songs. Not how they physically play them, just how they look whilst playing them. It really shows their personalities. Just brilliant!
I was never a Radiohead fan, not that I disliked them.. I just hadn't heard any other songs besides their radio hits. I heard "Optimistic" the other day on the radio, not knowing who it was. What a mesmerizing piece. One of the best songs I've EVER heard, period. New fan here =)
Thank you Radiohead. For being the soundtrack to my entire life since you have made every album - time perfectly. Memories are merely moments in time in where our lives were changed forever. That's why we remember them. Thanks for being there no matter how hard it has been.
"Reckoner" and "Weird Fishes"... those two songs led me to this amazing video. two of my most favorite songs which is tough because all of their music is awesome.
I am so glad you got that BS straightened out AustinBrock, Now we can all return to our happy place listening to your awesome post of Radio Head, thank you for the great vids and HAPPY your back...Ken
haha.. yeah that PB sound and subtle techniques really stood out the most when I first heard these tracks on some Basement Studios compilation DVD. \m/
This is literally watching fine art being created live. Thank you radiohead for giving us tis album and video for free. I was trying to buy this on iTunes when I found this. Radiohead is the best band in the world right now and one of the best ever.
Most of these comments are 10+ years old. Wonder what all those people are doing now... leave a comment even if you've already left one! That way RUclips will keep recommending it in the feed! Thank you for sharing such a brilliant genius performance ❤
Yea ive seen this a million times and it never gets old... Hell what am i saying radiohead never gets old for me. I have to listen to radiohead everyday just to get through the day and be happy. I also have to say this is one of their best performances technically its not live but they nailed every note spot on and thoms voice just blows me away especially on videotape and arpeggi
Thom Yorke - the mastermind
Johnny Greenwood - the mad scientist
Colin Greenwood - the backbone
Philip Selway - the drum machine
Ed O’Brien - the secret weapon
Stanley Donwood - The Demiurge
Nigel Godrich - The Grey Eminence
Clive Deamer - the battery
Michael Stipe - The Inspirer
Greenwood is the mastermind

When I listen to this, I always forget that it´s live until I return to my screen.

Man, I can't believe this was a live recording, It sounds so much like the album, it's incredible. Superb performances. Thom was spot on.

FacePlant i agree with you.
FacePlant ok computer should be the dark masterpiece, in rainbows is much more softer, ok computer is much darker.
FacePlant I prefer this live version than album cos too much reverb in the album
i have to admit that this album is way easier to get a chew on , ok computer is a little bit harder to get in.
@@prakharpant1711 All I need is darker than anything on OKC. I would argue OKC is more distrubing--granted we're kind of arguing semantics at this point though, but I do hear what you are saying.
Seriously these guys are geniuses. Anything they put out is of the highest quality. They are true musicians with a most unique sound.
Misterious. Intense. Delicious. A Radiohead trip.
Didnt plan on spending an hour staring at the computer when I came here...
You and I both, several days a week. As I have said in many places before, the release of this album saved me from my father's death. It came out almost a year after and I was drowning in grief. Then - In Rainbows. I was 26.

This version of The Gloaming is so fucking good.
It’s on another level
Philip Selway is an amazing drummer...
My absolute favorite video from Radiohead! This is just pure bliss.
0:18:23 Please Go Away Colin xD !
i’m betting Jonny did that🤣
7:51 that is the face of someone who really enjoys his bass. all of them just make this music seem like their 2nd nature, and look like theyre enjoying it the whole time
That was a pretty groovy fill.
I still prefer _Big Ideas_ to _Nude..._ if any song of theirs should have been much longer (and kept the organ)...
i think it lacked of good lyrics , i mean , not that nude has a lot of words in its lyrics , but they're much better in my opinon
i personally hate the ''she (i dont remember blaablaaablabal)''
I wonder why they left jigsaw falling into place out of this, it would have been good.
It’s very fast and wordy. Hard for the band to perform live and even more difficult for Thom to sing well
this is the most beautiful live performance I have ever heard everything is so perfect the bass, drums and guitars most of all thom yorke's voice is so exquisite
32:58 he drops one stick xDDD epic but quickly takes another xDD
XPDC titian perjalanan
XPDC BAND LEGEND FROM MALAYSIA
Muse was pretty good before, now they are terrible. The Second Law is really bad, and it was quite unexpected for me that they just made an album like that. Until then they were among my favourite bands, but not anymore.
I don't think The 2nd Law was bad BUT it was the end of an era. People hate Narrow Stairs, too. And they're also wrong #DCFC

Thanks so much for this amazing show.
Putting me in a good place this am.
Cockatiels
that said THANK YOU for posting this, i still listen to this whole session with pure joy year after year (:
I thought someone was tricking me. I wouldn't allow myself to believe that you were actually back...so I typed in 'Radiohead from the basement' and well...the most gorgeous video has been put back on youtube.
Now I can go back to watching Radiohead concerts at 2.00 am when my head won't allow me to sleep. Thank you AustinBrock...you wonderful man you.
So, I don't know about any of you guys but I watch this pretty much every day. Never gets old.
First saw this last summer, have since re-watched over and over, and even bought the vinyl. Love this album :)
It was a surprise to me too. Very happy the channel is back online though :).
Yeah man it's really mesmerizing when you have good headphones and good dope then the 3 guitars arpeggi totally torment you - can not unhear it. Great Song!
Whenever I feel like laying down on my bed, putting on my headphones, and being blown away by some good music, this is my first stop.
Again,again and again,every time the same pleasure,thanks a lot austinbrock !!!
I was so sad when this got taken down but now its back up i thank you!
What a beautiful master piece. Soul filling.
This is even better than the recorded versions of these songs! I love seeing how they play these songs. Not how they physically play them, just how they look whilst playing them. It really shows their personalities. Just brilliant!
All of these songs are so tight, some are even better than the album versions.
Such a good performance.
Flawless.
I just realised that Radiohead's music is the only thing in my life that completely fills my soul with joy.
May they live forever
Just my favourite music moment on RUclips, Radiohead + In Rainbows + From the basement
I love how Jonny shreds during "Optimistic." Makes me really wish they would do full OK Computer and Kid A sets of From The Basement.
I was never a Radiohead fan, not that I disliked them.. I just hadn't heard any other songs besides their radio hits. I heard "Optimistic" the other day on the radio, not knowing who it was. What a mesmerizing piece. One of the best songs I've EVER heard, period. New fan here =)
And now you have 10 years listening radiohead, still like them?
The sound is amazing, mix is awesomely clear. Radiohead deserves such talented AEing...
Thank you for taking the time uploading it!
One of my favorites ^^
Gracias por tomarte la molestia de subirlo ^^
Thank you Radiohead. For being the soundtrack to my entire life since you have made every album - time perfectly. Memories are merely moments in time in where our lives were changed forever. That's why we remember them. Thanks for being there no matter how hard it has been.
Esto definitivamente completa mi vida, gracias por tanto, Thom.
I cant stop coming here! Just put my headphones on and get through the next hour at work with ease
Thanks so much for this!
Hands down, this is the best recorded version of "The Gloaming". Please prove me wrong.
"Reckoner" and "Weird Fishes"... those two songs led me to this amazing video.
two of my most favorite songs which is tough because all of their music is awesome.
Thanks Austin for this great music. They are wonderful.
definitely my favorite version of where i end and you begin... this entire video shows perfectly the reasons thom is my favorite vocalist of all time
Still one of their best performances ever. Thanks again, AB! :)
I am so glad you got that BS straightened out AustinBrock, Now we can all return to our happy place listening to your awesome post of Radio Head, thank you for the great vids and HAPPY your back...Ken

Thanks Josh, much appreciated.
haha.. yeah that PB sound and subtle techniques really stood out the most when I first heard these tracks on some Basement Studios compilation DVD. \m/

Im so glad Radiohead is more open now, and that they continue to make better music every album baffles me
