RylieCollins in his defense Mako how to grow up really fast since his parents were murdered when he was only eight years old and he was given the responsibility of raising his brother while living in the streets and homeless as well. I have a feeling Mako took more of the negative aspect of life and darkness and tragedy and hid it from bolin so he can have somewhat of a normal childhood. Mako wasn't only Bolin's older brother but he also became somewhat of a father to him. Like you have to understand the poor kid, his parents get murdered right in front of him when he was only eight years old and then he was given the task of raising his younger brother. So I'm pretty sure that hardened him and made him colder. He became an adult too young

I wonder if Bolin's talent with lavabending came from his Fire Nation blood. Given that it was completely unheard of for non-Avatars to bend lava before Ghazan, and that two show up a couple generations after the end of a long war between the Earth and Fire Nations (bringing in an era of cosmopolitanism)...food for thought.

+Timothy McLean I was surprised too when I first saw lavabending was possible, but then I thought: Water and air and even firebenders can vary the temperature and pressure of their element, so why couldnt earth benders do the same? after all, lava is just earth under VERY high pressure and temperature. maybe the reason the ability is so rare is because, while possible, it is very demanding and/or puts a high strain on the body, and the ability to counter/survive that strain is really rare.

Suki vs Asami- Suki would win with difficulty.She's more experienced in combat than Asami.Asami would have her electrified glove to give her an advantage but Suki,she's very agile and versatile compared to Asami,so I doubt she'll hit suki.On the other hand,Asami is quite nimble and is skilled in H2H and combined with her weapon,It would be a challenge.
I'd Suki, Ozai, and Katara would win their matches, but all of them would be a sight to see.
Appa and Momo, Suki, Ozai, Katara.
1. Appa and Momo, would crush Naga and Pabu, plus they can both fly, giving them the advantage in strength and mobility, at least for Momo. Strength for Appa, mobility for Momo.
2. Suki, is definitely the better fighter, Asumi does have her gloves, but Suki has her fans giving her the advantage.
This would probably the real ending: Bolin is getting in defensive position, Mako is using his basic FireJabs and Cuts. Bolin uses EarthBending to rise at a high point. Mako looks at the ground and sees it's turning red. Bolin says: It's over brother, I have the high ground! Mako doesn't cares and said: You underestimate my lightning! Mako uses Propulsion to fly after Bolin, meanwhile the entire ground is filled with lava. Mako is quickly generating lightning, but Bolin uses lava to cut Mako's legs. Mako falls in the lava while Bolin screams: You were my brother, Mako! I loved you! He picks up his scarf, and leaves.

@@AntoineBandele Nah bolin's abilities are just too overpowered for Mako to overcome....yes he exceeeds Bolin in other areas....but the Lavabending is just too much for Mako.........Mako would only win if Bolin had a single clod of earth.....but in a fight where earth is readily available Bolin has way too many advantages.......the ability to project power at a much higher level, affect the battleground, as well as the ability to defend would trump Mako's tactics and killer instinct.....Mako's bending is simply at an extreme disadvantage.......it would be too easy for Bolin to put Mako on the defense simply by defending himself because of his overpowered abilities.
Meaning that Mako would have to have extreme levels of tactical ability, surpassing Bolin's vastly or Bolin would have to be extremely inintelligent or flawed in his personality in order to lose. Lavabending just seems too cut and dry OP especially as Bolin has been shown to be proficient at wielding just a disc of it.
For this analysis to be accurate, Bolin would have had to be vastly outclassed by Mako prelavabending.........but instead Bolin was shown as just a shade weaker than Mako.

Bolin has two states of matters to do a attack, and also if the lava touches mako, then he would be kinda f ed
in my opinion Mako would have won only if Bolin did not have the lava bending,But with it Mako wouldnt be able to beat him
Mako is my one of my favourite characters. I hope the LOK graphic novels are gonna do justice to him: giving him a girlfriend (supposed to be the Fire Princess btw), a great arc for his story, more of his childhood background with Bolin, or even maybe his time as the Chief Police Force (I think it's no secret that Lin wants things to go that way)

This is a great analysis!
However, I think Bolin would win, especially if the fight occurred closer to Book 4 than Book 1.
You make a convincing argument in favor of Mako's tactical abilities, but I disagree; I think Bolin's happy-go-lucky careless attitude is coming in the way of a more objective analysis of Bolin while fighting. For instance, in Book 3 when Zaheer and Co. come to kidnap Korra and Bolin basically surrounds them with Lava, when Mako and Bolin run outside to fight them, Bolin protects Mako by pulling him from the line of fire and behind a pillar; Mako, as you rightly said, has a killer offensive instinct. But this makes him careless, while Bolin, who has forever underestimated himself and seen himself as the kid brother, is super careful and is extremely cautious and defensive. He is also better in unfamiliar situations than Mako is, and frequently plans based on a longer term than Mako, who is more focused on beating the opponent in the present instead of tiring them out or figuring out strengths and weaknesses. Examples of this are when Mako resolves to destroy Kuvira's giant Mech and then passes out, and Bolin, who had foreseen this, comes and rescues him. He demonstrated great skill using one of Kuvira's army's robots in a fight, even though I don't think he knew how to use him beforehand. My point here is that it is easy to dismiss Bolin as a child because of his attitude, even though in battle he displays a crazy amount of foresight and planning.
Moreover, I think that a fight between the two would be a very long one, since the two are quite well-matched. I don't think Mako would win in the mid fight because while Bolin lacks Mako's killer instinct, his defense and spatial awareness is amazing by way of him being an earthbender; Much like when Aang in ATLA doesn't want to fight someone and evades them till they get tired out or get careless and hurt themselves, I think Bolin would keep evading Mako by using earthbending to get himself on an elevated plane, make walls of earth against Mako's fire, and as a last resort push Mako around by making earth jut out from behind Mako. Bolin is considerably better at using his environment to his advantage. Mako does this once when he uses water to deliver a potent electricity attack, but Bolin is doing it constantly, whether it be to protect the president using Earthbending discs during the premier of Nuktuk, or using earth to gain a height advantage or as a shield.
Moreover, by being around people like Varick and Kuvira, I'm sure that Bolin has picked up some craftiness, at least from Kuvira if not Varick. Mako works under Lin, who is an earth bender and as such can only be of limited help, but Bolin works under Kuvira who can teach him a lot as an earth bender, within a clan of predominantly earth benders.
He also has a range advantage over Mako; Mako can't use fire in close quarters because he runs the risk of hurting himself, whereas Bolin can use earth both very closely as well as over a longer range (as demonstrate by his frickin sniping P'li).
The weird part is I've not even touched on Post-Lavabending Bolin yet. Lava Bending tips the scale most definitively in Bolin's favor. He already has the advantage of being aware of his surroundings and more defensive and cautious than Mako, now he has a surefire way of surrounding Mako and forcing him into a corner, then just pelting him with accurate stones from a height till he's knocked unconscious. These are all tactics Bolin has used before. I think his unwillingness to hurt Mako would come in handy here actually, since he would look for ways to knock Mako out as quickly as possible, whereas Mako simply cannot do that without hurting Bolin (fire and electricity can't knock out without causing serious injury but a well placed bonk on the head with a stone absolutely can). Bolin not only has the measured defensive strength of Earth, he has the sniping capabilities of earth, the heat and ferocity of firebending through lava, and several ways to give himself the positioning advantage, whether it be height or creating a Lava lake.

not even really close to being a competition based on what we've seen, Uncle Iroh (aka ATLA Iroh) would win easily. he was nearly as strong as Ozai by his own admission, and he's a pretty humble guy. while United Republic General Iroh COULD be that strong, we've seen nothing to suggest even close to it.

Just Me Lightning has been dodged but it’s harder considering how fast it seems to travel from the bender. And I don’t remember an earthbender blocking it with a rock. Lightning breaks rock even zuko and Iroh was breaking through earthbenders rock defense with fire lightning will do that with ease. rewatch Korra. There’s literally average soldiers jumping and avoiding lava just by moving around so no. Just because lava has so far only been stopped by another lavabender doesn’t mean that’s the only way to stop it.
I feel bad for Mako, he is such an underdeveloped character. His power and skills are in the same stage throught 4 seasons. At least Bolin got a girlfriend and learned Lava Bending.
Mako does know how to instant lighting though and is one of the only people who can even slightly resist blood bending

I think this is a weird one in a way as its based a lot on how their characters progress, in the beginning Bolin is completely overshadowed by Mako in both bending and personality, however as the series goes on we see Ma)ko constantly focus himself on those around him (korra, asami and bolin) whereas Bolin started in his brothers shadow and rather than identify himself by others constantly sought a way to be identified as his own man (things like pro bending, movers and his attempts at metal bending). We then see this as the series goes on, while they both improve from series 1-3 the gap between them closes, and when Bolin finally discovers his secondery talent in lavabending (Mako's being lightning) i would say the gap starts to go the other way and will probably only widen as they grow older with Bolin eventually shadowing his older sibling (while Mako cries over his exes picking each other over him :P)

I can totally understand avoiding that particular one though, a really good chance to explore airbending tactics, and how both characters use them. That being said, I dont think people would like to hear what Id have to say on this match-up either though.

One thing decides this. Bolin could spam lava but Mako can't spam lightning, Bolin takes this. If this is just a sparring match then Mako would win cause there's no way Bolin would use Lava against Mako
also just saying if bumi lived in LOK i would kinda feel like he would be a lavabender than a metal bigger his 6 pac his rugged stance lifting whole entire bolders like nothing he seemed more of a ghazan type than kuirva type throwing those little metal spikes. he bended like avatar kyoshi using very big rocks and 4times the skill as bolin bumi could be one of the best lavabender

Alright enough puns. I predicted that mako would win but I still side with Bolin. I believe that if Mako used his lighting as a last resort Bolin can counter the attack by simply negating it with a rock wall or something. Just like how ground types in Pokemon negate electric attacks. Bolin's lava bending would be a difficult thing to fight against since it is a rare form of bending. Mako wouldn't know how to react and I that'll leave him open for attacks. I feel that Bolin has the better "ultimate" compare to Mako simply because it cannot be negated by anything in his arsenal while Bolin can possibly block lighting with his rocky defence.
Anyway still a very nicely done video, keep dishing them out!
A knowledgable lava bender brought down an air temple. Bolin would win without a doubt.

Bolin really hasn't shown much skill with lavabending. If you compare the two, you see Bolin using Lavabending far less than the other Lavabender we know about, and in far weaker amounts.
+Oreki Houtarou His lava bending in book 4 was actually quite impressive. Mako's bending in book 4 was really weak and he didn't do anything impressive until the final episode.

I think if one looks hard enough they can tell my original thought was that Bolin would win. For week I had thought he would but then I really looked into his fights and his personality and he was far more reactive than he was proactive in his fights.

While I agree with almost everything you said, the only part I don't agree with is the ratios in the end fight. Mako had no finishing moves except for his lightning, and Bolin had enough ability and enough options to evade/block it, whereas Bolin had lava, rock walls, and many other finishing moves available to him, which is why I believe it would be 4:1.

yeah, but su made it pretty clear that that whole "one in 500" thing was nonsense, and toph said that anyone with some decent instruction could learn it, seeing as he had no instruction at all, he was basically winging it, and seeing as metal bending wasn't a thing until toph, came along, it is clearly hard to do if you have no idea what you are doing, but it would sort of go with the character arc, of him just accepting himself, and deciding not to bother with metal bending, so I grant that it might make sense in context of bolin's story but let's be honest Bolin REALLY wanted to learn metal bending, so I think he would have at least gone to toph to see if he could learn
He is a lavabender not a metalbender and was intructed by one of the best in the world so he will never bend metal.

At the same time as Korra he cant metalbend, he tried many different times and never achieved it even when his and his brother lifes depend on it. Think about it he never recieve instructions on how to lavabend and he did easily without effort because he is a lavabender not a metalbender.

My gut reaction was Mako then I you said lava bending...
Agreed with everything except I do not believe Mako would have the heart to finish Bolin in a fight. You have to remember these two brothers were raised with the older brother taking over the parental role in protecting his younger brother. I just don't think Mako has it in him to ultimately bring his brother down if it came to a real fight. Only difference I would do would change mid-fight from 4 to 1 Mako to 3 to 2 Mako. Ultimately this would bring the total as a stalemate. Mako would be unable to finish off his brother mid-fight allowing a greater chance for the fight to progress more into the late fight, more often.

Airbenders are avatars, so my theory is is their earth redirection ability, and the friction between air would turn to heat, and that heat will turn into air of fire. And on to earth. The thing is air is everywhere. So you could get all the air in the world and stack earth onto earth. For water, you could use air to make simple water stuff. And for air, its simple.

I think it would be a tie, Mako got deadly lightning that only firebenders can redirect, vs Bolin's lava that only lavabenders can counter. So it all boils down to Mako's instant kill lighting, vs Bolin's instant kill lava. So the winner goes to whoever can strike faster🤷♂️

Lightning can be blocked by any bender that is not Air or a Firebender outside of the Iroh school of firebending, a stone wall can stop lightning and so can a bunch of water in the air/ice wall. Lava on the other hand cannot be blocked by anything except another lavabender, all you can do is evade it. Lightning is faster however and it becomes a question of can Bolin stone wall the lightning in time ? if yes then Mako will go down eventually.
@@devilsummoner7814 well legendary firebenders can fly, like Ozai, azula, and korra. But i don't Mako that level yet.
Also firebenders can turn lava into stone, i don't know how. But if u watch the episode where Sozin came to help Roku fight the volcano. U can see Sozin redirecting some sort of gas and causing the lava to turn into dry ground. And with Mako's skill on redirecting lighting. He just might be able to perform Sozin's gas redirecting.

I believe that Bolin's reactive defensive style is perfect for Earthbending, the whole style relies on erecting defenses and then converting them into an offensive assault (say, using a rock wall as a projectile). Earthbending's offence relies on a defensive setup
