I kinda liked all the awkward romances throughout the series. They were uncomfortable to watch, but they emphasized that these are teenagers/early 20s. I had a bunch of weird, toxic situationships when I was their age too, until I finally came out, and found a man that I cared about in a more real and long-term way. So, it was all very relatable

Asami is one of the frontrunner in the avatar-verse industrialization, while Korra is the top representation of anything spiritual, isn't it amazing they get together. Such balance, it made my cheek hurt from smiling too much.
They represent and symbolize main conflicts in the their world, between tradition and progression. Their relationship symbolize that Balance is possible. Titles of Books aren't random.
If you consider how they were both forced to train in martial arts from a young age, groomed to be the successor to something bigger than them and having preconceived views on their place in the world you can see how they're similar.
Maybe I'm just a sucker for subtle ships like this, even if the subtle nature was a result of censorship. They're my OTP too. I was so happy the comics gave us some true romantic interactions denied us in the show. Really nice video dude.

I think I kinda started shipping these two in my head after the red lotus fight. I never thought it would actually happen and I never thought it was canon. When I was watching the last scene in season 4 I got a little giddy and decided to look it up if it was canon. It was something about the way Asami took care of Korra and how Korra only wrote to Asami.

korrasami is balance, they have things in common, but they got their differences and their differences balance eachother out, korra is masculine and impulsive, the connection to the past, asami is feminine and patient and the gateway to the future. they are so understanding and caring towards eachother. my " oh, oh yess THEM" moment was when asami attempted to teach korra how to drive a car, something just clicked, but watching the earlier interaction between them before, the pieces were always there, they werent ready just yet. i legit cried when they held hand going into the spiritworld together, bc i was convinced it wouldnt happen, and yet it did. we won, THEY won.

I think the love triangle happened because korra didn’t know that she was attracted to asami all along, she thought it was mako but it was asami because korra didn’t know that she liked women. (Something that happens irl for questioning queer people where they don’t understand if they are jealous of the girl or jealous of their ex for dating the girl that they want too)
I remember losing my MIND when the final episode aired back in... gosh, 2014? It was such a powerful moment and paved the way for so much amazing stuff to be created later. I love this ship and this show so much.

Avatar and Korra are two of my most favorite animated series of all time! I do hope that more and more animated series can continue to follow the incredible precedent they both set in storytelling and character development and relationships.
LOVED this breakdown! I 100% agree with the observation that their emotional / identity arcs mirror each other, and that it's those empathies that bond them together as friend & then later something more. literally every other semi-important character in the show also has hardships, but theirs match each others' the most. on that note - i've always said that the show didn't delve deep enough into asami's hardships, because holy, she lost her father, her boyfriend, her company, korra, and then REALLY lost her father at the end. & we barely see her grieving for ANY of it. had that been given more attention, i think the gp's reception of korrasami would improve & people would understand just a tad bit more why this relationship was necessary.

I had heard that, and there are definitely lots of nods to that idea in season 1 (her character design heavily resembling Lust from FMA, for example). I was definitely one of the people speculating she might turn evil back when the show was airing, given her attachment to her father and her rivalry with Korra over Mako. But I'm really happy with the direction they decided to take her character instead. She's awesome lol

After watching your video I'm a lot more understanding of Korra asami than I used too I still don't like the ships cause I'm not a ship type person so I don't like shipping at all but I have a better understanding of it
Honestly, I asked some of my friends to watch the video and give me their opinion before I posted it. Most of them turned me down because they don't like shipping either lol. It's not for everybody, and the discussions can certainly get pretty convoluted and toxic.
I felt this for such a long time! Despite me being straight, I jokingly said to people that I think mako doesn't work with either of these women, they work best with eachother. And despite me not believing this was the route they were taking, by the end I felt more confident in this sarcastic joke, because everything pointed at them having a harmony no man could really live up to, and I was assuming they would throw in a final episode twist where Mako makes it back into the picture, but insteas I was so excited to see that Korra and Asami ended up with the person that was truly right for them.

Yes, yes and yes again; you've captured the strong, ever-growing foundation of their relationship perfectly ❤ It was certainly a difficult, uphill battle to bring them together on the screen, but I am so grateful it happened - because upon every rewatch, the way they grow closer is more and more tangible and apparent. Becoming each other's most stalwart supporter, finding joy in one another's smile, unashamedly feeding their wild streaks - there really is no one better for one another. Exquisite vid!
They did hold hands while entering the spirit portal in the final scene of the show. Although, that was when my christofascist parents walked in and banned me from watching the show due to their own homophobia.

It made me so sad reading the comments below on the original recap of what happened after Korra. Things like ''mental illness'' being compared to bisexuality. Thanks for your contribution. I'm a little more hopeful.
Personally I went through many phases First Makorra was the MC canon ship, and I liked it. Later I got sad that they went with the breakup route, though later I accepted it as an ending for Makorra. Then Book 3 (my favourite) came and they dealt with it nicely, awkward Mako started and ended and the girls treated each other as friends, with no rivalry over him. Book 4 had little interaction between them, didn't see it as romance cause until then I saw nothing. Then the last part of the epilogue was almost out of the blue.
I love the parallelism between the two. I have always marveled at Korrasami. Throughout the whole airing of Korra, I was bitter and indifferent, being no better than the die-hard-fan of ATLA who would swear it would never match up. What really changed my whole opinion was Korrasami, because (as many can relate) it validated a love outside of heterosexuality and hetero norms. Prior to watching your video, I had trouble really pinpointing why Makorra didn't work out. I mean I saw Mako try to please Korra later on-- but your insight and this video-- made it really clear what I couldn't exactly label. Thank you so much for this video.

I think they really should've made Asami an equalist infiltrant as initially suggested. Would've given her at least some character conflict. Though that means Hiroshi also doesnt get a similar redemption.
A small part of me thought there might be something more during Asami's talk toward the end of Season 3. When the ending finally happened, I couldn't quite believe that it might be true and had to immediately check the internet to confirm it. I was so happy to find out that it was actually confirmed by the creator.

But there were many details that you brought up that I either missed, or hadn’t considered until you brought them up. All these details that add to the story. I just recently rewatched ATLA and finished watching TLOK. So this video was a great watch. Seeing their breakdown and parallels you showed of their relationship and hardships really gave more weight to how things turned out.
Korra and Asami are two of my favorite avatar characters . And I related greatly to Korra. I was not surprised when it was revealed to be cannon because unlike some I saw the subtext.. probably from all the years of watching Xena and other how’s where the LGBT was subtext for various reason that were mainly because of tv channel/network and the audience the show was aimed towards. I also believe seasons 3 and 4 had a less budget then 1 and 2 because it was “ not performing”
Actually Books 2, 3 and 4 were simultaneously in production. The production of Book 3 was more or less finished at the time of the premiere of Book 2. They did not have a lower budget. The show isn't performing any better because Nickelodeon was a dick and kept sabotaging the show wherever they could, from constantly changing the airing schedule to completely moving it off the air and putting it online.
The car chase in season 4 episode 7 is a perfect example for Korrasami. That´s why they are endgame and it´s moment like these that show Korrasami wasn´t out of nowhere at all.
@@samuelclayhills3298 The writters stated themself it wasn't planed from season one but by season 2/3 they planed it. But well most of the shows viewers are straight and will see Korra and Asami through straight eyes. Would one of them be a guy no one would have said it came out of nowhere. And it actually didn't. There were hints and moments leading to them throughout the last seasons. Plus the writters had alot of ristrictions from Nickelodeons side, there was only so much they could show. I mean they weren't even allowed to show a kiss between them.
You explained Korrasami so perfectly. They have such a good dynamic that makes them perfect together. And while they couldn't do like, a kiss or anything, they couldn't be stopped with the comics. The scene in turf wars when Korra was talking with Asami about Her matching Korra's energy was simply perfect. And how Korra said, word for word, "It wasnt an accident that you were the only one i wrote to when i was gone." Makorra and Masami always felt.. Off, to me. They weren't as compatible as Korrasami. Like you demonstrated, Korra and Asami were always understanding of each other, matching eachothers energy, and always there for one another. Thank you so much for this video

I loved this ship from the first time i saw these two together and although i admit the forced romance put me off the cartoon for a long time i later came back and enjoyed it and loved looking at the little hints between korra and asami, just happy to see more of there relationship in the comics!
I was rooting for Bolin but that died once Mako and Korra got together. However, when Korra was driving the car, I jokingly thought that what if Korra and Asami got together. Then I noticed very small things but not enough to actually believe it was going to happen until the very end.
This analysis was amazing, thank you! It made me remember and reanalyze. One moment that i think was also very important was when Asami was protecting Korra while she was in the spirit realm chasing zahir.
Bruh lately with cartoons I’ve seen a lot of same sex couples don’t don’t normally work. Korrasami is the one that years later still works really well. They have such natural chemistry and talk about things only people who’d care deeply for each other would talk about. I already love Legend of Korra (except book 2 for obvious reasons) but this couple is the cherry on top of it all
I don't really watch too many cartoons nowadays, but if you're looking for one with a solid same sex couple I would recommend checking out the Harley Quinn animated series (please note this is geared towards a more mature audience). So far I've been surprisingly happy with how they handle romance in the show.

Avatar and Korra are two of my most favorite animated series of all time! I do hope that more and more animated series can continue to follow the incredible precedent they both set in storytelling and character development and relationships.
LOVED this breakdown! I 100% agree with the observation that their emotional / identity arcs mirror each other, and that it's those empathies that bond them together as friend & then later something more. literally every other semi-important character in the show also has hardships, but theirs match each others' the most.
on that note - i've always said that the show didn't delve deep enough into asami's hardships, because holy, she lost her father, her boyfriend, her company, korra, and then REALLY lost her father at the end. & we barely see her grieving for ANY of it. had that been given more attention, i think the gp's reception of korrasami would improve & people would understand just a tad bit more why this relationship was necessary.
I'm glad to hear you liked the video! And I 100% agree that it would have been great to see more character moments for Asami. I loved her ever since season 1 and always felt she wasn't given enough time in the spotlight. I think the show had such a large cast of relevant characters that it was difficult to do justice to a lot of them.

I had heard that, and there are definitely lots of nods to that idea in season 1 (her character design heavily resembling Lust from FMA, for example). I was definitely one of the people speculating she might turn evil back when the show was airing, given her attachment to her father and her rivalry with Korra over Mako. But I'm really happy with the direction they decided to take her character instead. She's awesome lol

After watching your video I'm a lot more understanding of Korra asami than I used too I still don't like the ships cause I'm not a ship type person so I don't like shipping at all but I have a better understanding of it
Honestly, I asked some of my friends to watch the video and give me their opinion before I posted it. Most of them turned me down because they don't like shipping either lol. It's not for everybody, and the discussions can certainly get pretty convoluted and toxic.

I felt this for such a long time! Despite me being straight, I jokingly said to people that I think mako doesn't work with either of these women, they work best with eachother.
And despite me not believing this was the route they were taking, by the end I felt more confident in this sarcastic joke, because everything pointed at them having a harmony no man could really live up to, and I was assuming they would throw in a final episode twist where Mako makes it back into the picture, but insteas I was so excited to see that Korra and Asami ended up with the person that was truly right for them.

They did hold hands while entering the spirit portal in the final scene of the show. Although, that was when my christofascist parents walked in and banned me from watching the show due to their own homophobia.

Personally I went through many phases
First Makorra was the MC canon ship, and I liked it.
Later I got sad that they went with the breakup route, though later I accepted it as an ending for Makorra.
Then Book 3 (my favourite) came and they dealt with it nicely, awkward Mako started and ended and the girls treated each other as friends, with no rivalry over him.
Book 4 had little interaction between them, didn't see it as romance cause until then I saw nothing. Then the last part of the epilogue was almost out of the blue.
I love the parallelism between the two. I have always marveled at Korrasami. Throughout the whole airing of Korra, I was bitter and indifferent, being no better than the die-hard-fan of ATLA who would swear it would never match up. What really changed my whole opinion was Korrasami, because (as many can relate) it validated a love outside of heterosexuality and hetero norms. Prior to watching your video, I had trouble really pinpointing why Makorra didn't work out. I mean I saw Mako try to please Korra later on-- but your insight and this video-- made it really clear what I couldn't exactly label. Thank you so much for this video.

I think they really should've made Asami an equalist infiltrant as initially suggested. Would've given her at least some character conflict. Though that means Hiroshi also doesnt get a similar redemption.

A small part of me thought there might be something more during Asami's talk toward the end of Season 3. When the ending finally happened, I couldn't quite believe that it might be true and had to immediately check the internet to confirm it. I was so happy to find out that it was actually confirmed by the creator.

I just recently rewatched ATLA and finished watching TLOK. So this video was a great watch. Seeing their breakdown and parallels you showed of their relationship and hardships really gave more weight to how things turned out.

Korra and Asami are two of my favorite avatar characters . And I related greatly to Korra. I was not surprised when it was revealed to be cannon because unlike some I saw the subtext.. probably from all the years of watching Xena and other how’s where the LGBT was subtext for various reason that were mainly because of tv channel/network and the audience the show was aimed towards. I also believe seasons 3 and 4 had a less budget then 1 and 2 because it was “ not performing”
Actually Books 2, 3 and 4 were simultaneously in production. The production of Book 3 was more or less finished at the time of the premiere of Book 2. They did not have a lower budget. The show isn't performing any better because Nickelodeon was a dick and kept sabotaging the show wherever they could, from constantly changing the airing schedule to completely moving it off the air and putting it online.

The car chase in season 4 episode 7 is a perfect example for Korrasami. That´s why they are endgame and it´s moment like these that show Korrasami wasn´t out of nowhere at all.
Oh they showed the vaugest hin in the last season those darn writers had it pland from the very begining.
@@samuelclayhills3298 The writters stated themself it wasn't planed from season one but by season 2/3 they planed it. But well most of the shows viewers are straight and will see Korra and Asami through straight eyes. Would one of them be a guy no one would have said it came out of nowhere. And it actually didn't. There were hints and moments leading to them throughout the last seasons. Plus the writters had alot of ristrictions from Nickelodeons side, there was only so much they could show. I mean they weren't even allowed to show a kiss between them.
You explained Korrasami so perfectly. They have such a good dynamic that makes them perfect together. And while they couldn't do like, a kiss or anything, they couldn't be stopped with the comics. The scene in turf wars when Korra was talking with Asami about Her matching Korra's energy was simply perfect. And how Korra said, word for word, "It wasnt an accident that you were the only one i wrote to when i was gone." Makorra and Masami always felt.. Off, to me. They weren't as compatible as Korrasami. Like you demonstrated, Korra and Asami were always understanding of each other, matching eachothers energy, and always there for one another. Thank you so much for this video

I loved this ship from the first time i saw these two together and although i admit the forced romance put me off the cartoon for a long time i later came back and enjoyed it and loved looking at the little hints between korra and asami, just happy to see more of there relationship in the comics!

I was rooting for Bolin but that died once Mako and Korra got together. However, when Korra was driving the car, I jokingly thought that what if Korra and Asami got together. Then I noticed very small things but not enough to actually believe it was going to happen until the very end.

My boy mako done missed out
Bruh lately with cartoons I’ve seen a lot of same sex couples don’t don’t normally work. Korrasami is the one that years later still works really well. They have such natural chemistry and talk about things only people who’d care deeply for each other would talk about. I already love Legend of Korra (except book 2 for obvious reasons) but this couple is the cherry on top of it all
I don't really watch too many cartoons nowadays, but if you're looking for one with a solid same sex couple I would recommend checking out the Harley Quinn animated series (please note this is geared towards a more mature audience). So far I've been surprisingly happy with how they handle romance in the show.
