Korrasami just felt so natural to me. It wasn’t the big romance, the main driving force for the characters. It was just two women, growing closer, trusting each other with more of themselves than they do with other people, being friends and eventually more than that. It was a story about deep connection on multiple levels which helped both of them find not only each other but also themselves.
It really touched me and I remember writing my best friend afterwards just telling her over and over again YOU HAVE TO WATCH THIS. Because it was in a fandom, in which I myself feel at home. And the romance wasn’t dramatic but soft. It was what I wanted, finally shown in a way which felt like it was made for me and people like me.

"Legend of Korra walked so She-Ra could run."
As much as that moment, in retrospect, sort of pales in comparison to other, later moments in animation, I don't think we should ever stop appreciating just how much this show paved the way.
Between this and the She-Ra video from a few weeks ago, this channel is pretty consistently making me bawl my eyes out. Really great stuff.

Noelle in that interview she did with Rebecca does credit Steven Universe with paving the way for Catradora (I think). But for the most part it was a pretty independent process from the POV's of both creators. So one could say that none of these instances of gay representation "walked so that the next could run", but these moments did provide Networks with viable reasons to actually let these characters be who they are, rather than censor it out of fear and/or bigotry.

Hopingover Leavesinfall When that’s said, at least from us, we are talking more the latter of what you were describing. Television needs to be pushed in general so networks, producers, writers, etc. know these stories can be successful. Though maybe not directly inspired by the story of korrasami, its influence on the culture made an impact i think.

I like her because she's the opposite of Aang. He grew up with monks so his state of mind was clear and he just had to learn new bending styles whereas Korra already knew bending but had to change her attitude and mindset. Although I find Korra more relatable/human in some way, I still like both and I can recognize their growth and maturing.

@@corpsenymph4644 Mako is a underdeveloped character. You never understand why he makes the (terrible) choices he does, and the few positive ones he makes (his friendship with Woo, joining the police force) seem to happen more because it was the path of least resistance. The only thing they really developed was his straightman foil to whatever funnyman they wanted to pair him up with.
Many of the side characters in Korra are similarly underdeveloped. Except for Bolin. They did something worse to him; they rewrote him every season. There's 4 Bolins and little rhyme or reason connects them.

She was the first character that showed me ptsd, and helped me understand my own trauma. And she holds a woman's hand. I didn't allow myself to consider being gay until around 18. I was so happy to see it, its one of the reasons i LOVE Korra, because i liked the subtlety and uncertainty, the nuanced adult take of not gushing openly or fumbling and big declarations, yea, thats fine as a kid, when you get older, its the little things that matter and you notice and they just hit so much harder.
If it weren't for these two, i wouldn't have gotten Catradora from She-Ra, and honestly that's the only other time I've felt that same glorious feeling, jumping and screaming even if its by myself that LOVE triumphed and got to just be~

Even though I didn’t grow up with Avatar or Legend Of Korra, they affected me in a way that most other shows can’t. Shows like these have been able to help me begin to find myself and feel comfortable with who I am and who I’m becoming. For the romance korrasami ending, They couldn't show more of course because nickelodeon wouldn't allow it. But it was a breakthrough in animation history as it was the first huge lgbt moment for a main character in a kid's animation show. Korra was the stepping stone for many shows down the road that would get more freedom on tv and portray lgbt couples in kid's shows.
I personally liked it a lot because it's one of the only ones that feels more subtle and actually progresses slowly for a romance in the universe. The more you watch it, the more signs you see.
I didn't like Korrasami that much before but upon rewatch, it really grows on you particularly as a film student where you try to show subtext and development that is not too overt. I feel the problem with many animated shows is they don't build enough or make it too childish with many overt scenes that lead nowhere until the end.I mean korra was definitely the closest with asami and the hints were there in season 4 from the blushing to the conversations to the writing of letters only to asami.
It's true that it's hard to see how you make the jump from best friends to romantic feelings but sometimes it just happens. It's just hard to fathom but they were very close, it would have seemed clearer of course if it was mako and korra that were that close. They of course couldn't show what korra was actually thinking as well.
I particularly like the ending for the character of korra because it seems she is not rash and impulsive anymore compared to how she was with the love triangle, it's just an invitation to a first date and nothing more. It's like the start of a new journey and a new adventure for them as they enter a new romantic relationship, a new world and a new phase in their life. (It actually feels less unrealistic then Kataang and their final everlasting love kiss that did feel like coming out of nowhere since their last scene together was that rejection in ember's). The fact that korra and asami didn't kiss as well was because it would have felt like coming out of nowhere particularly on a first date.
I liked how it really builds and feels actually more like an adult relationship, it feels very real and the end is picture perfect.
    Anyway that's my take.

Korrasami was the start of it all. We all felt it and were watching them, but none of us believed it would ever happen. Like all the popular pairings in the past, it would remain in fanfiction and discussions, and fandom rants as we all rolled our eyes and wait for the inevitable. that is a straight ship would prevail, probably with Mako.
...only that didn't happen. Korrasami was the first show who stepped away from subtext. It walked out of the shadows of fandom and fanfiction. They walked together, on screen, into the light. And they lead us all along with them.
Korrasami is very special and its thanks to their first step, that lead us and western animation into a new world we never thought we'd see.

It still bums me out that I didn't watch LOK when it came out because I could really have used Korra Alone back in 2014.
I was forced to re-anchor my identity in something new and it would have been nice to have someone, however fictitious, that was going through the same kind of thing to relate to.

I'm a relatively new fan of LoK, bc I didn't know it existed until it dropped on Netflix. I'm such a huge fan I honestly didn't think it was possible at my age lol (I'm in my twenties). Korrasami was unexpected bc I devoured it the first time I watched the show. That ending seen, is so pure and important I was left breathless. I've watched the show so many times already and I've read up on the writers comments on the show and people critiques and rewriting. Even the fanfiction has a huge variety. This show is so powerful.
Anyhow, I just wanted to say, your video brought me to tears.

I smell a very underrated youtuber, even though I've been subbed for about 5 to 6 months now. Seriously, just the way you say your statements just feel so powerful. And big big props to whoever's does the edits as that was beautiful this vid. But again, just the way you deliver your lines just feel so powerful. So powerful to the point that I'm sure the whole world would stop what their doing and listen to you if they could. Thankyou once more for making a beautiful video for a character who is undoubtedly my favorite protagonist out of any show. Seriously. If anyone has anything bad to say about her character I will literally fight them (You can imagine I get into a lot of arguements because of how many people seem to unfortunately dislike Korra). Anyways, have a great rest of your day and know that this random person is always excited to watch more of your content.
Edit: Have you watched The Owl House? If you haven't I highly suggest it as, personaly, it has some really interesting characters who I'd love to see you cover (Looks at Luz and Amity).
And also Lumity, cause it's the most adorable thing I've ever seen.

Alright I have no words to express this emotional love letter.. You worded it so perfectly, so wholesome, so relatable.. I got tears in my eyes during your beautiful words full of true emotion but I broke down at your very last sentence.. 'This, was the Avatar's Love. And it looked like mine, too'.
Korra and Asami remind me of Xena and Gabrielle. Xena and Gabrielle paved the live action way for women's love and Korra and Asami did the same for animation. It was special, pivotal(?) It was unique and paved the way to somehting so, so incredibly important..

  • @GirlMeetsSunshine

I really love how they found each other in times of need, always being there for the other. The gentleness in Asami that could make Korra let her guards down, the compassion and unyielding characteristic they share, Korras trust and both their wish to protect their loved ones. They just make such an amazing pairing and I was a sucker for the slow burning friendship to lover relationship when I first saw the series.
Also I really like that they kept it subtle with holding hands. They were not only physically stepping into another world, they were doing so emotionally, too, wishing to explore what could be with tenderness and mutual respect. A very grown-up pov, but that's what made this series so amazing: It aged with the audience that watched Aang and his story unfold. Will Korrasami last forever? Who knows. But they want to find out and the ending scene with them looking at each other, holding hands... It made me cry happy tears. So glad that Korrasami exists and that this was a foundation for so many other queer representations on screen.

The Avatar franchise has always made me feel loved. The shows were made by people who loved and cared a lot about them and that shows. At the same time, the shows were made with so much care for us. They gave the folks who grew up them so much: the lessons taught in them, the opportunities to see ourselves reflected, and fantastic stories. I just find it so touching when I remember how much of the care put into this show was done for us.

Every time I rewatch this finale, I cry. This is powerful for me, because I'm not someone who regularly cries when watching stuff. To see this relationship that wasn't just started on the basis of quick infatuation, but built up over many seasons; it feels earned. During this time, I never really believed that I was capable of being loved, not in the way I really wanted. And then I watch this, and seeing someone who was also at rock bottom pick herself back up with the help of those she loves (both platonically and romantically), it showed me that I could too. Yes, I love TLA, I always will, but I can't help but love Korra more. She's someone who I relate to as a human, and seeing her successes overcoming adversity, it gave me hope.

I loved atla as a kid and watched reruns, finally watching it all with my brother in 2014, but I never got into Korra. I got two seasons in one day when i was ill and couldn’t get out of bed and never really touched it again. I was still half in the closet when Korrasami happened and it blew my mind. I finally watched all of atla again during quarantine and when Korra was added to netflix I was at my lowest physically and mentally and needed background noise whilst chugging through the end of my degree in isolation. Seeing her struggle through all these things whilst also accepting her identity hit so hard. Like I’m an adult now and I’m out and proud of it, but god do i wish i could have found a way to watch this whilst i was still hiding away. It helped so many people when it aired and even now it still helps me.

My experience of Aang's avatar was as i just got out on my own and became a parent. There were so many anime tropes mingled with Americana, as an afterthought. But, I, too, felt like it was a world I had once lived in and experienced. Aang's awakening and training was like alchemy, helping me in my actual meditational practices.
Korra came much later. Her story and emotions were so much more relatable to me in my state, at a point where my own relevance and identity was in similar disarray. Even without my daughter's comments about the Korrasami ship, the ending felt more satisfying than Pride and Prejudice because it was there, that subtle yet beautiful wish and hope.
And, yes, I cried. That show was like therapy!

This channel is quite refreshing and honest, very different from other channels that criticize the Legend of Korra. Yes, the writers rushed through the seasons like Aang rushing out of bed and going swimming fast. Yes, Korra did end the Avatar cycle. Also, that bit about Wan threw out the mythos of the original meaning of Chi. But LOK does have a great message and character development too. At first, like most, I was thinking 'What is Asami doing there?' Towards the end of the show, it made sense of how much their relationship had grown and their true feelings for each other. I hope more fans give the show a watch.

TLOK is DieselPunk fantasy (reason why there are cars, airships and RetroFuturistic technologies like Mechas) and main theme is conflict between tradition and progression and what place Korra as a person and Avatar have in this new early 20th century like modern world.
TLOK have two story arcs, Book 1 is more or less self-contained mini series, while Books 2, 3 and 4 were simultaneously in production (confirmed by the creators themselves) and make a 3-part story arc that is basically a REVERSE ATLA story arc.

Goddamn you really got me when you said it was this world we'd grown up with embracing us. It makes me think about Harry Potter where JKR has revealed nothing but hate and ugliness for such a large section of her fanbase, rejecting those fans and everything they loved about her world and story and characters.
We're so used to creators just wanting to profit off us and our engagement with their media, but this was an act of love. This was the writers of Avatar truly seeing us, seeing our loyalty in sticking with a flawed and troubled show that had faced a lot of adversity from the start against the network, and responding with love, giving us a beautiful and lasting gift.

The day the last episode came out on Nick's website I was at school, and me and my best friend at the time watched it on computers in the library during a study hall period. I still remember how we just looked up at each other halfway through the last scene, eyes wide, mouthing "no way," only to look straight back and see that, yes, it was real. I was 17 and had just started to figure out that I was trans. Seeing something queer on this show, a show I'd loved from the beginning and the sequel to one that defined part of my childhood, portrayed with such warmth and against such daunting odds and norms? That meant everything.
