Really cool ... new to blender - so thanks for sharing your knowledge - straight fire - Curious is there a way to create this as geometry - as in take a single frame and export the bump and displacement as actual geometry data - i'm thinking probably not - but would be interested to know ?
Why in light paths put 1 when you can put 0? Glossy should stay higher, in this case I think, scene doesn't have any metal so diffuse - 0 no glas, no transparency transmission off transparency off, no clouds or smoke, or anything using volume so volume off, correct me if I'm wrong. You could also disable refraction for this render.
Can you tell me if it reduces rendering time if I take for a particle in a particle system not a 3D cube, but instead a 2D square? Should I take the cube or the square as particle, if the particles are too small to tell what shape it is?
Thank you for the video! But I was really mad at the fact that I had to "guess" the numbers on the wave offset, by looking at the perfect spot. (I'm kinda new to this procedural world) So I went out to the internet and found nothing useful on how to find out the "perfect value" or how to calculate it. Then I just tried a couple of things, and I just found that you can loop it by leaving "0" on the 1st frame, and use "2 * pi * N" on the last+1 frame. N is the times you want it to cycle. Works with any scale of course, hope I helped someone out!
@@darwinbonfante2960 thanks Darwin! I realized, you have to do the math now, I was thinking there was a math function node or something. If anyone else is wondering - I did 2 *3.14*4 = 25.12 for the final offset.
Cool tutorial... But... you eyeballed it... it isn't perfectly looping it's noticable when you're looking for it. Hurry and make another or else default cube will one up you on this. solution: take 2 * pi, and the current frame (copy paste driver) multiply them together, then divide that by the total frame count *plus one (copy paste modify driver). now, *multiply all this by however many phases you want to go through for the given animation. You could also key frame this using some more math nodes, but this'll do. * = edited for mathematical accuracy after some fiddling ;)
@@pixelricebowl frame_current, you could also just type #frame_current in a regular value node, and it'd translate it into a driver for you. also, I meant to say add one to the total frames (frame_end), not subtract ;)

When I add a subdivision modifier Blender crashes instantly. I know that a smooth displacement needs a very dense mesh, but why is a subdivision by 10 plus an additional subdivision surface modifier necessary?
Another way of perfectly looping, which does not require setting it to linear interpolation in the Animation settings, is this driver: (pi * frame/ 'half_amount_of_total_frames') * N 'half_amount_of_total_frames' is self-explenatory, and "N" is the times the loops should occur.
Too intense for my computer. I had to reduce cuts to 6 to prevent pc crash when adding Subdivision modifier. Rendered in EEVEE. Reduced cycles dramatically. Rendered video in less than 2 minutes instead of 2 hours ... looked good and didn't melt down my pc.
I fully appreciate you, but as someone new to Blender you are skipping so many steps and shortcut keys that I have to keep pausing and hunting online for answers. Just saying, it would be nice if you included ALL steps that you are doing for a wide range of viewers from Beginner to Professional.
How do you make the rendered image look so crisp? Whenever I try it the icosphere looks low quality and noisy, even before you go on to the compositing it looks clear and smooth but mine just doesnt.
Hold up. You can cut this down to 25% of the animation rendering time. If the point is to loop, there's no point to keyframing 4 phases over 120 frames - just do 1 phase over 30 frames.
Doing everything exactly like you did, but can’t set keyframes? When at 3:17 I right click to enter keyframe nothing happens, even though my walkthrough was identical? What am I doing wrong? Help a noob out!
> I'm gonna go and say, right here on the phase offset, one, two, three, four... I think four phases is pretty good. (21.14−8.560)/4 = 3.145. You do realize that the phases are measured in 2pi right? because the underlying wave function is a sine wave!
Love your tutorials! What I like the most is that besides the knowledge with the nodes and stuff I get to learn a little about blender workflow. Amazing, thanks a lot.
Guys how much time you need it for render the video? Mine is 120 frame, just like Ducky, but my render time was about 2 hour :D is it bad/good or i need to set up the program? :) Im using a 3070ti gpu.
Anybody knows please how to export these organic animations or animations made with shapekeys (without armature) as fbx to Unreal or Unity? Can’t find anything on this topic! Any help would be invaluable!
I love playing around with displacement :) Just a quick tip, when you're talking about making it render faster: actually enabling "Denoising Data" makes the render a little slower, while in direct comparison I found that using the Denoise node with or without the Denoising Normal + Denoising Albedo doesn't make much of a difference. So the render could be even quicker if you just use the Denoise node in the compositor without enabling Denoising Data. Of course, on a 10 second like like yours it won't be a big time saver... but a little more complex scenes and especially rendering an animation where those differences add up it might help.
Does anybody have any problem with subdivision surface modifier in blender 2.93? Mine just freeze blender and crash it when I click on it. It's not the pc it's has enough specs to run it and the subdivisions are not too high
i rendered the project as png images and using video editor in blender ,i rendered the animation . the result was a low quality video .the size of the video is less than an MB!!!
Does it can happen on a plane? I've tried failure, the wave texture can't show an round circle on the plane's surface, what should i do for further? pls~~help🙏
Can you turn keys on or something please? It's hard to follow when you use a shortcut sometimes. Trying to follow every step, so it actually gets the same result. Thanks!
Hey Ducky, In Compositing when I turn on the "Use nodes" in Render Layers I cant find Denoising Shadowing, Variance, Intensity and Clean. Where can I find them ?
I get these weird rough shadow patterns inside of the wave displacement lines, I've tried a lot of things with no avail unfortunately. Do you have any idea how I can fix this? I even tried following the tutorial 3 times total doing it exactly step by step, but I still get the same problem. I tried upping the rendering to level 5 and even 6, but it does not seem to really change anything. It just eats up loads of RAM. Thanks a lot in advance.
Ducky, when I choose displacement and bump in my material settings, the displacement stretches out forever to the edges of my blender file. Do you how I could fix that? Thanks.

Either divide or multiply (can't remember which 😬) the scale of the wave node by pi and you can use integers for the phase offset. (Unless your sphere has a non-integer radius)

Hey why did you plug that texture into midlevel? Why not height? I suppose it works either way, but is there any difference in the result?
