How about this people? Most of the members of the bands from our rock era (the 60's and 70's) are in their late sixties, and early seventies by now. Maybe some of them don't feel like getting up and touring as much anymore, after touring like a million times over the last 45, 50 or so years. It's a lot of hard work performing, and all the traveling too. Shit, I just turned 60, and sometimes I get tired just walking around Walmart a couple of times. lol

In 2012, back before Christine McVie’s return, Lindsey Buckingham was ready to tour again with Fleetwood Mac, but they waited for Stevie Nicks - who didn’t finally get back on the road with the band until 2013. Following McVie’s return a year later, Buckingham was ready to record, and again they waited for Nicks. By the following year, he and McVie had begun recording without her. This went on so long that they completed an entire album, featuring all of the members of Fleetwood Mac - except Nicks, who did another solo tour in 2015. Then, Buckingham and McVie, waiting into 2017, mounted their own separate tour. All of this happened while they waited for Stevie Nicks. Finally, Nicks returned, but by this point Buckingham - understandably, right? - was ready to do something on his own. So they reportedly fired him. Makes perfect sense... that’s from Nick DeRiso on Ultimate Classic Rock. I completely agree with him

If they can tour as a band without Christine and if they can tour as a band without Lindsey, then why can't/couldn't they tour without Stevie? There has to be someone out there who can play her part and sing her songs adequately enough for them to fill in when Stevie's not available, surely!

They're scheduled for Denver CO on Dec 3. I haven't decided if I'll go. Ticket prices for the Pepsi Center are usually over $250 for nosebleed seats. And to not see Lindsey play, I can't rationalize spending the money.

Lindsey Buckingham is the true genius at the recording studio, the arrangements and sound layering that give FM their unique sound are because of him. He is the one who got a simple song from Stevie and made it gold. Now he has a family, he has other priorities and doesn't feel the need to rush for tours so often. He's taking life more calmly and even though he wanted to keep making music and touring, he wanted to take things easier and time to enjoy his life. Non-stop touring was not his #1 priority anymore. In a way I admire the rest of the band's energy, but it surprises me that Mick says that they don't have anything else to do.

I said it before I'll say it again..I want to see Buckingham all by himself with his guitar in concert.... I'd never pay $500 a ticket for FM even if I were rich. Hope Buckingham is more gracious to his life long fans. FM is not. And we are the people who bought those records and made them rich. I find them greedy.

Not long before Lindsey Buckingham was fired, there was a story on an Australian television program about the friendship between Mick Fleetwood and Neil Flynn, and in the course of the story it was intimated that a musical collaboration between the two of them was on the horizon. Coincidence?

after watching a few doco's on FM, I think Stevie is the problem... her ego... she thinks it's her band and she has said that basically she will do what she wants to do...regardless... it's all about her... I think she just wanted to get rid of LB, because he was in her way... Yet the only reason she got into FM was because LB insisted that she comes in with him... and that's the thanks LB got... I read something today (although I think it's old news) about how LB wife said that the FM members are just horrible people and she is sick of them and doesn't want anything to do with them anymore...

    • @Historian212
      @Historian212 4 года назад +4

Disagree. I saw the documentary about the album they made in the early 2000s. Buckingham was every bit as much of a problem, if not more, in those sessions. If anything, he seemed to be the one who was constantly having issues. I think they're both very gifted but difficult people. As for Mrs. LB: c'mon. How must it feel to be married to someone for years, have three kids with them, and still be constantly hearing about his relationship with his ex? Especially when touring means that the wife's at home with the kids while the husband is off with that ex. Of course she's sick of them and wants them out of her and Lindsey's lives. I don't know how she's put up with it for this long.

The problem I have with these larger acts is the ticket prices. After seeing geriatric Black Sabbath without their original drummer, and paying almost $350 for one barely decent seat (plus gas, parking etc), I pretty much swore those kinds of shows off. $350 is a nice amount of groceries.

Somebody is lying here. First of all Nicks says Buckingham wouldn’t do the old songs the band recorded before she and Buckingham joined but Buckingham recorded and sang the band’s decades old hit “oh well” on the “Fleetwood Mac live” double album. And the band had very little commercial success before nicks and Buckingham joined so what makes them think many fans will want to hear those songs anyway (though many of them are excellent). And the band has replaced Buckingham twice before without success and fans wouldn’t accept it so what makes them think it will work now?

Good comment. As someone who saw the band in the late 70s, I can categorically state there was NOBODY yelling for the Peter Green material and she's straight up lying as Buckingham did play 'Oh Well.' Of course, she was probably too high and whirling around on stage to actually remember much of that period and probably figures who'll call her out on it anyway. I'm a crazy Mike Campbell fan but I wouldn't spend a dime to see this lineup.

It would be nice to play some of the Danny Kirwan era songs again. He wrote some good songs and had a nasty vibrato that Mike Campbell could do justice to. Tom Petty used to play songs off of Kiln House on his Buried Treasure show on Sirius radio a lot.

I call BS on the whole thing. It was Lindsey that produced Say You Will, the LAST album of new material the band has put out. Ever since, they've been doing the exact SAME hits set with no more new material to speak of. Extended Play (a collection of half-baked demos) and Buckingham-McVie were both placeholders for when Stevie deemed the band worthy of her time again. It's been FIFTEEN years since the band has done anything of significance. They WAITED for Stevie plenty of times and had to put up with her antics. Now a 50th anniversary tour that is probably going to be their last. Really lame ass way to go out...

It's not only about them, but I'll never understand how musicians within a band can be "replaceable'. I understand quitting, I understand additions and changes of musicians at the beginning, but when a band is a myth like they are (or else Queen, INXS... for example), there's no way it can be the same band with new members who will never be truly, historically part of the legacy that made the band famous in the first place. Worse even when they are frontmen, like seems to be the case every time that happens.

While changing personnel wasn’t completely out of the norm for Fleetwood Mac, they found their true calling some 40 plus years ago when they signed on Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks. Lindsey wasn’t just a singer, composer and guitarist, he was their backbone. Without lead players the band is only a mediocre rhythm section with a name. It’s 2018, the players are all senior citizens in their 60’s and 70’s and it’s safe to say that their heyday is well behind them and it’s very unlikely that they’ll ever see anything new on the Top 40. At first this was going to be a farewell concert and it’s hard having one without a key player, which was a pretty dick move to part ways with, however you phrase it. The only chance they had of new tricks or spark of creativity is now gone.

Read Mick fleetwoods book from 1990 this isn't new ,Lindsey always wants to do his own stuff but considering all there ages waiting till 2019 is a bit risky after all they are not in their 20 s or 30 s. In the past 30+ years my husband and I have seen Stevie Nick's on her own ( she's hardley a has been ) you don't come off 70 concert tour and say shes finished. We've seen Fleetwood Mac with and without Lindsey several times great concerts enjoyed ourselves either way. Like I said read the book written by Mick Fleetwood with the help of band members old and new ,spouses and producers as far as what happening with Lindsey same shit different year !!! I personally think Lindsey needs to take some responsibility . He's trying to be the victim when if he probably was a team player and toured this year we would be talking about what a great concert it was . They replaced Lindsey with Billy and Rick in the 80s and it's been over 30 plus years so I hardly believe this is the beginning of the end . If I lived closer to where they are having a concert I'd be there. I'm just grateful my son was able to see this great band when they came to Ottawa a few years back when he was there for school.

Funny how they forget the termoil of the bass player and christines divorce. Stevie would not be who she is if she had not met lindsey. He has my loyality. Back in the day no body wanted to play with green on green manilishi because it was too evil. No one ever had that with lindseys songs. His addition was the bands power to go the distance.

I think the problem stems from the fact that Lindsey wanted to record new music. The thing is, Lindsey is a prolific songwriter and probably got bored doing the oldies again and again. On the other side of the coin, the rest of the band just want to tour and make stacks of money. Really hope Lindsey gets back to full health after his recent surgery, his solo stuff is so damned great.

Already saw them on their last two tours with LB and can't imagine the group without him, but I wasn't a fan till the mid to late 70s. As far as i'm concerned it is like the Beatles getting back together (if they were all still alive), but without John Lennon and still calling themselves "the beatles". Sorry, it just doesn't work. That is just me though.

Don't cave, Johnny! That's what Mick is counting on, people with enough curiosity to waste $600 or more for a pair of decent tickets to see even older material. You'll never get as much pleasure seeing "Oh Well" with this crappy line-up as you would watching Peter Green and Danny Kirwan perform it right here on youtube. I'll take my money and catch another Elton John concert or a solo Buckingham one or two if he decides to go out on his own (hopefully).

One of the things I liked the most about Fleetwood Mac was their diverse sound. While most bands held one single singer to be the lead on most of if not all of the songs they did, that ultimately led to the band sounding the same song after song. Such was not the case with Fleetwood Mac. On one song it would be Stievie Nicks and on another it would be Christie Macvie

    • @sc0tchlvr
      @sc0tchlvr 6 лет назад +3

While on another still would be Lindsey Buckingham. This to me made this band one of the greats of all time. If they go on tour now, I would like to see how they would do a song like "Big Love" or even better yet, the most classic of iconic ones "Chain" and see how it would even sound as close as good as the original without him. His voice is one of a kind just like Stevie Nicks is and it is irreplaceable Not a smooth move by the group to exclude him from future performances.

Stevie Nicks and Christine McVie where both accomplished vocalists, if you like pop music. But listen to any Fleetwood Mac song where Lindsey Buckingham is the main vocalist and I guarantee a truly great guitar solo was bound to follow. Why did Fleetwood Mac choose to abandon that successful blueprint?

  • @paulbradley4355

No disrespect but I wouldn’t go just to see Mick Fleetwood and John Mac Vie, they are really good no question but they were finished until they met Lindsey, ok I understand it’s difficult when you can’t unanimously agree, I see from both sides but as it stands Lindsey is out! Those songs that Stevie sings will never be the same the way she stood and looked straight at him the feeling that makes her song special would disappear and turn into just another same old song and likewise how can anyone sing
Lindsey’s songs to Stevie, just doesn’t add up, no wonder they are including the old stuff of the original band but can we really relate to this MUSIC totally different and what fans are they aiming to please, the old Fleetwood Mac is dead and buried so why the resurrection ?

  • @frankny4947
    @frankny4947 5 лет назад +10

Two things. But first I'd like to say that the bluesy Peter Green era from like 1968 to 1973 is my favorite era, and music of Fleetwood Mac. Though I missed seeing that line up live. Too young. Though I did see the Stevie/Lindsey line up in 1977, 1997 and 1999. 1) Now. When they asked Lindsey to join the band after their guitarist at the time, Bob Welsh left to go solo in 1975, Lindsey said that they would have to take his girlfriend Stevie too, or he would have to decline the offer. They said "NO, we only need a guitarist". Plus they already had a girl singer, Christine. He insisted, and they gave in, and took Stevie too, so they can him. This is in all the books, and reports, and part of common knowledge in their history. 2) When Lindsey joined, with his guitar playing, singing, arranging, and songwriting in '75, he immediately, and singlehandedly turned the band from, a pretty good average band, into ONE OF THE BIGGEST MEGA SUPERSTAR, MULTI MILLIONAIRE, TOP BANDS OF THE 70'S. How the fuck could they ever fire HIM? That's so uncool. They would have been dead by the early 80's I believe, if it wasn't for Lindsey Buckingham. That's like if The Heartbreakers would have fired Tom Petty. Or if The Eagles had fired Don Henley, and Glen Frey. LOL What do you say Kiddies??

What say? What I say is you're glossing over the actual truth, stretching facts and half-truths to fit the story you want to tell and want to believe in your head, and leaving out all the parts that detract from your story. Just one example is your description about how Nicks-Buckingham joined FM - partial true twisted and exaggerated. Nothing like the convenience of confirmation bias, huh? It really works!
Like a lot of commenters on here, you only have a smattering of understanding - or are simply only reporting what you chose to - and haven't dug very deep or listened to or read very many interviews from all five of them over the past 40 years. Make no mistake, I like Lindsey Buckingham a lot - as a part of FM, for his guitar/vocals/song writing/production, and I wish the five of them were touring together.
But Buckingham himself has admitted in various interviews over the years - not a complete full "confession" at any one time, but enough parts and pieces over the years to add it up - that he was not always so nice to Nicks (enough reports in various interviews and reports about his physical/verbal/emotional abuse of Nicks), and he is a pain in the ass to work with. And if you pay attention to what he says in various interviews, both in print along with many that are right here on youtube, in various unguarded comments he makes, just how utterly patronizing and condescending he is not only toward Nicks but to the entire band. btw, there is plenty from Nicks as well - she has made numerous patronizing remarks about Buckingham, although not so much condescending.
Even Kristen (his wife) has said as much about Lindsey, about how "prickly" he can be. That's her word to describe him, and I would tend to think, being his wife, and in the context that she said that, that's a euphemism for something a bit more nasty. After I wrote that, I looked up the source for you: see Rolling Stone, Oct. 10, 2018 for that, and then set about reading/listening to 40 or 50 interviews with all of them - mostly individual - that you obviously chose to ignore.
As for the Nicks - Buckingham saga, that is never ending. They'll love-hate each other through eternity, but remember it takes two to mucky up a relationship.

    Hi John,
I heard that too. Love your reports, John. Done with class... with the backdrop of the band. I have a little trouble with this.
The way members are replaced like this... all in the name of moolah... does not smell too good. Don't get me wrong. I think Mike Campbell and Neil Finn are very brilliant but I am not sure that they fit in the FM sound. I think Lindsey is such an integral part of the band.... it ls like replacing Lennon or McCartney in the Beatles for me..... pardon the slight exaggeration.. but maybe not too exaggerated.
I still can';t get over how much Lindsey killed it on stage on the last tour I saw him..."On with the Show Tour from 2-3 years ago.
    Thank you
    God bless

If the relationship between her and Lindsey was so stormy, she could have left the band, filed a restraining order and continue having a solo career. She had solo hits. I will break it down for you Stevie. Everytime you saw Lindsey, you saw that the biggest mistake you made was walking away from him. Now he has what you've always wanted, a spouse and child(ren), and now you're a septuagenarian and regret is excruciating at this stage in life.

    Let's get some perspective here:
The firing of Lindsey is an example of discrimination:
    Here is a quote from ultimateclassicrock.com/fleetwood-mac-stevie-nicks-new-album/ :
"Fleetwood similarly blamed Nicks for a long-delayed Fleetwood Mac tour that was supposed to start in 2012, crediting an "obsession" with her solo career. Apparently, not much has changed. "She just doesn't want to spend the time right now," Fleetwood said. "And we're quietly saddened about that, but also I sort of understand."
So in Stevie's case Mick Fleetwood understood.
Another quote from the article: "It all comes down to Stevie Nicks. She's the one person keeping Fleetwood Mac from completing their first album since 2003's Say You Will, the band's co-founder, drummer Mick Fleetwood, says."
But Stevie wasn't fired. Oh no, she was allowed to keep the band from both touring and making a new album!

Fleetwood Mac before the addition of Buckingham and Nicks was their most creative time. Late sixties, early 70's Mac music with Green, Kirwin, Spencer, Welch, Fleetwood and the McVie's was just "off the charts" good. I saw the most popular iteration of Mac a few years ago in Tacoma and they seemed flat . . . a bit off. I am sad Lindsey won't be part of this tour but I must say I'm happy they will focus much of their performances on the earlier stuff.

STATION MAN, YES! That is my favorite Mac tune!
I was definitely aware and disappointed (but found it understandable) that Buckingham was against playing any of great music made before he was in the band. Fleetwood Mac had 9 albums plus several more albums worth of material all before 1975, and most of it is really good.
As much as I understand why Buckingham wanted/wants to focus on his material (and how he might not feel like explaining that "Black Magic Woman" is originally a Mac tune at every performance), doing that absolutely makes people think the band had no prior history, which is a shame.

The truth is finally coming out, slowly. Lindsey wasn't fired as they all agreed. Lindsey didn't want to tour until late 2019 because he is receiving treatment for a very serious health problem. He is physically unable to tour now and the rest of them wanted to get out there. Eventually the entire story will leak out although Lindsey doesn't want to talk about his health which is why he's had no comment. It's a sad situation but they're all getting older, and I'm getting older too.

The irony is in the 90's Fleetwood Mac wanted to go on tour and they replaced Buckingham with two people. That didn't turn out so well. Maybe this will work out better for them as Campbell and Finn are first class talents.
I do believe Nicks is being somewhat disingenuous regarding doing old FW songs like "Oh Well" which I know for a fact they did on tours with Buckingham. You don't fire someone for that. It sounds like the most significant reason is his wanting to push off the next tour while they were ready now. Even this strikes me as hypocritical because if Stevie was working on a new solo album now she would have wanted to push the tour off too!
The bottom line is these extremely wealthy musicians realize the money today is in touring and they could care less about recording new music. For this reason it made it easier to fire Buckingham now. Much easier to go out on tour with replacements than it is to create new brilliant music in the studio. This point is further substantiated by the fact Buckinghame did make a recent record with Chris McVie and toured behind it. The reasons stated at that time was Stevie had no desire to make a new record. I guess she got her way.
