Lindsey Buckingham is SO GOOD he needs to be replaced by TWO GUYS!! Grossly underappreciated/under rated...thanks for posting
Amen!
And he was replaced by two guys TWICE. That's the funny part.
Wasn't that interested back then, but HUGE Campbell fan! Interested how he's going to sound with them
think Campbell will do a decent job covering leads, he has a somewhat similar sound. Not buying Neil Finn though...his singing just puts me to sleep.
I'm curious what guitar he will be using to replace Buckingham's Renaissance guitar , Agree with what you think of Neil Finn
A beautiful man performing off the scale with that cloudless blue sky as backdrop
He’s a guitar players favourite we all know how good he is
👍
I don't know any guitarist who don't know what Lindsey's bringing to the song, the songs of the group. writing, arranging, producing. And on and on..
i dont mean to be so off topic but does anyone know of a method to get back into an instagram account..?
I stupidly forgot the login password. I would love any tips you can give me.
@Augustus Landen Instablaster =)
@Briar Hugo Thanks so much for your reply. I found the site thru google and I'm in the hacking process atm.
Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will get back to you later with my results.
Lindsey Buckingham was so ahead of his time people will still be catching on decades and centuries later..
You can see so clearly that he was the passion and soul of this group. He carried the rest on his back. Wow!!
👍
Lindsey had it all (still does but I mean in the 70s/80s): looks, voice, guitar skills and yet he is no household name! This man should have been a star! One of the world’s biggest mysteries… Lindsey was/is awesome!
He is absolutely amazing in this clip. It blew me away when I first saw it. As a massive Fleetwood Mac fan. I am very sad at the decision to cast Lindsey out. This is Buckingham Nicks at their finest.
Yeah it's a big shame!
Get well soon Lindsey. We love you.
I couldnt agree more. i am pulling for him to recover and am sad Corporate Mac hasnt come out and wished him well.
It will never be or sound like Fleetwood Mac without Lindsey Buckingham.
It was great with Bob Welch also.
Brings back great memories.
65 years young, opened top car , quad sound. Love the 70s man !
Whenever I hear a Fleetwood Mac song while I’m driving alone I turn it up REALLY loud for my sis who died 2 1/2 years ago and loved them. This is for you, Sister....is what I tell her.. She was only 59 when she died. I miss her
Man he makes that les Paul cry!!!!! Along with his amazing voice!!!! Just brilliant !! And with Stevie nicks the combination of these two really completed this band!!! Legendary !!!!!! Sad that Lindsay isn't with them anymore !!! He brought such depth with his singing and unique guitar playing !! Inspirational !!!!!
Amen!
Mario Rabottini yeh, no Lindsay, no FM in concert
After hearing only the "Top 40" hits this band produced, and growing up a narrow-minded metalhead, I've always dismissed them as softish rock and never bothered to dig in to anything else from them. Only now because I'm habitually viewing your videos and being exposed to many guitarists and bands I'd never bothered with do I find out that, for instance, Fleetwood Mac can rock. Thanks for the education, Fil; you're performing a valuable service!
No problem!
you should check out the Peter green line up Silent Queue, they did some incredible hard rock stuff
Amen to that. I can’t play a lick but love all kinds of music with a passion, love learning the technical side of how they make the magic (because non-musicians can take it for granted too easily sometimes when the whole sounds so great), and Fil’s videos are perfect for someone like me. Plus I love that he’s not embarrassed to show that he’s a fan too.
Silent Queue
I concur. All these massive hits are misleading, because they are not the average softy-poppy band.
They are one of the most proficient playing bands ever. They had jaw-dropping good moments life. As Fil also pointed out, Mr. Fleetwood, Mr. Mc Vie, and especially Mr. Buckingham, they are simply superb.
And now, please listen to that one here: ruclips.net/video/RPEhIoKeTg0/видео.html
A demo why she's so good.
If you haven't already, check out their song, "The Chain". It is also a rocker.
Superb player, singer, songwriter, and a great engineer and producer in the studio. Lindsey Buckingham is one of my top five, for sure!
👍
Lindsey Buckingham is indeed underrated as a guitarist and vocalist. Thanks for analyzing this!
I think this performance of Fleetwood Mac is one of the best I've heard.
👍
Always thought Lindsey Buckingham had more talent than anyone else in Fleetwood Mac but he was overshadowed by everyone else within the band. It’s a real shame too b/c his talent deserved more exposure. He has/had a great career but his “lamp was really hidden under a basket” for too long. He could DO IT ALL unlike others in the band who’s abilities were a bit more limited in my opinion.
Feel like they were lightening in bottle during this time brought out by the emotional turmoil in the group. Linsay is very talented and so is his amazing head of hair! Thank you.
I have been lucky enough to see Lindsey Buckingham play live twelve times. When he left the band in 87, every concert until the reunion, was a cheap imitation of the original. Unlike most guitarists, he does not simply convey his feelings through his guitar, he can batter and shatter you with his taunting and cutting sounds (See I'm so afraid live 1980 and 1997 versions). Lindsey, Beck and Page are by far my favorite guitarists of all time. Excellent analysis and thank you for posting it.
Wow! Reading your comment you named my 3 fave guitarists of all time also 🌟
Got to see him play in Dublin a few years ago this man can play guitar great gig
So underrated. He puts so much emotion into the performance. Amazing, self taught I'm so angry they sacked him. You could do this, I bet you could do this just as good (well as a Lindsey fan as close to it). I watch these videos of great guitarists and think 'brilliant ' but your explanation makes me see it differently. I'm being educated 😀
Thanks!
Love Lindsey love that song one of my favorite versions I just watched him on his new 2021 tour with that Same song a little bit different but still great thanks for the posting
I just wanted to add it after listening to this one more time thank you for appreciating Lindsey for his vocals and his guitar style I'm with you is underrated and underappreciated shame on Fleetwood Mac for making him go
Thanks Fill ❤️
So well put. Their voices go so well together. Harmonies from heaven.
👍
You are right that Buckingham is both underappreciated and underrated. What I like with Lindsey is that he try new things and constantly develop his fingerpicking style. For instance the song big love from Tango in the night is a perfect example of that. If you listen to the earlier records like rumours and the records from the mid 80s you notice his development as a guitarplayer and a musician. The acoustic live version of big love is a showcase of his brilliance.
👍
To me, after the losses of Peter Green, as band leader/guitarist/vocalist, Lindsey (and Stevie) saved the band. You’re right, he’s underrated, or more accurately forgotten. Back in the day, everyone recognized his prowess on guitar. So many memorable performances.
What an amazing voice, interesting style of planning. And true Nicks and Buckingham sound great together and with McVie it’s perfect
I love that he's not using a pick.
I love it too. Mark Knopfler plays like that, as did JJ Cale. Both masters.
That is the unique Lindsey style! He is amazing and I love this channel!!
Many great guitarists seem to forgo the traditional pick. Lindsey, Mark Knopfler, Wes Montgomery, Richard Thompson (hybrid picking usually), John Mayer these days, Jeff Beck, Chris Rea, Nils Lofgren.
@@jamstonjulian6947 Richie Kotzen plays without a pick now as well.
I was like that for about 4 years after taking a guitar class in college... then I started using one again. I miss the freedom of never needing a pick and the warmth you get from fingers
Amazing, you did him justice, thank you!
Saw him play 8 or 9 years ago, his playing was like nothing we'd ever seen. The guy is a class act. Sent his new CD free to ticket buyers and in time to listen to before the show. Not a Mac fan but def a Lindsey fan. Thanks for this.
It is great that the guitar solo sticks so close to the melody of the song.
Now I know where Slash learnt his trade ! Brilliant review Phil. You know your stuff mate.
Love to see when any guitarist takes full advantage of all the plectrums available on their picking hand. It’s what makes folks like Lindsey Buckingham, Derek Trucks, Jeff Beck and Mark Knopfler so awesome! Great review! ✌🏻🎸
Thanks Craig!
This performance literally sends chills up my spine. Fleetwood Mac from '75 to '80 is a lot of my favorite music of all time. Yes Lindsey stands out on this song but all 5 of them are so incredibly talented and they would always put their heart and very soul into everything they did and complemented each other so well. Was lucky enough to see them twice in this time period.
I saw Lindsey live with Fleetwood Mac in 1983 and they were fantastic but I saw him solo last October in London and he was just amazing. You are so right, he is underrated but also under-appreciated, with his vocals, his guitar work, his songwriting and his producing and arranging Stevie's songs. He is a master at his craft! Glad to see someone else show him some love!!
I remember this concert. It was held at Harder Stadium in Isla Vista, CA, University of California, Santa Barbara. It was a cloudless day but a bit windy. The wind blew the sound all over the place.
WOW, what a great solo that was! The whole band is very dynamic live, and Mr. Buckingham has to be one of the most over looked guitarist's EVER! Great clip of a great band.
👍
Name ofsong plz??
@@mixaliskodovrakis4043 I'm so afraid
Fil I totally agree with your assessment with regards to Lindsey. He’s way underrated without a doubt! He also pours his heart out in his performances! You definitely get your money’s worth!
👍
Never heard this performance before! Yay! Thanks Fil! Always thought he was way underrated. How about some twin guitars of Wishbone Ash!
Will do!
A fave of mine from that album. 1976, bell bottoms, long hair, smoke, etc. lord, take me back...
Hadn't heard this before. Will def do so again. So crisp😆😆
Awesome presentation Thanks for all the intricate details & side notes. Youve built a Buckingham pallice of many shades & shapes of perfectly chosen descriptive words that do the man, Lindsey the full barrage of vituocity that he is, was & continues to be.
I'm loving catching up with some of your past videos. Lindsey is the definition of an artists I'd think. He never got the widespread recognition he deserved. I've come across people who didn't know he had a solo career, and heard from some very musically knowledgeable people they had no idea Holiday Road was his though they know the song from the movie.
I was reminded of something about Mick Fleetwood while watching this: he plays with his mouth open a lot. Oftentimes people will open their mouths when concentrating or trying to focus on something. It helps for some reason. ha ha! I won't keep you, but wanted to thank you for highlighting Lindsey Buckingham's playing.
Saw him solo after the break up of Fleetwood mac he was so great as good as it gets
I love FM and this review❤ "Go Insane" is another excellent song by Lindsey. One of my personal favorites. It has to be the live version. Thank you for loving FM, too.❤
Always liked Lindsey Buckingham he's always been a Soulful player with great melodic lines...
Yes! Thank you 😁 I'm happy to see you checked out more than one song with Fleetwood Mac, and that so many others like it! ❤️🤘
I love Fleetwood Mac and Lindsey Buckingham. 😎 Maby next video can be from "The Dance" tour? Go your own way is still a killer 😇
Thanks!
love it when Lindsey gets down and just flogs and flailsaway
Awsome clip! Never seen this one before. I agree about Lindsey being underrated and underappreciated. Do Big Love from The Dance if you want to complete the LB trifecta.
Thanks!
Big Love, yes....but I'm So Afraid....any live version....is even better. The last 3 or 4 minutes of that song is amazing.
Awesome request big love is just Lindsey but you would bet money there's 3 guitars ' amazing ' finger player
I saw them in the late 70s. A pretty common comment at the time was that they were a "studio band" and would suck live. I had bought into that and was absolutely stunned. Everything they did was fantastic. I was never so happy to be wrong.
These guys always sound professional. I THINK IT`S BECAUSE THEY ARE.
Lindsey is the reason I started playing guitar. Yeah I'm old but he's a badass. :-)
That's very cool man, i only know a couple of songs, i should get a new guitar and get back to the shit !
Cool!
Do it brother, f&%king do it. Guitar has brought me to my closest friends and some of my greatest memories. It's one mistress you'll never regret!
Same
They were so amazing live. Amazing musicians.
I saw them on that tour that summer...was surprised how different the songs sounded live.
Sensei Fil!! Great finger picker , great example of being totally immersed and confident in a performance cheers from your boi in Springfield Illinois
This is one of my favorite performances of Lindsey’s. I also love Go Insane, and later, live Big Love. I’d like to see you analyze Big Love live.
Thanks Phil! for playing my suggestion
No problem!
You picked the version I was thinking of too. Awesome
They were so fucking good then. All of them
Such a great guitarist
guardduck25 best guitarist of all time in my opinion
Man that was absolutely GREAT!! I LOVED Lindsey's solo at the end!! I play guitar and that solo was amazing and conveyed so much raw emotion!! GREAT PERFORMANCE! LOVE YOUR CHANNEL FIL!! Nobody does what you do for the music community and I mean the fans and players so thank you very much for putting together such a GREAT channel!
Thanks!
I'd love to see your analysis of Lindsay's guitar playing on Big Love as well. It's epic.
Soul - the emotion is almost desperation. This is the real deal. It's vulnerable.
What a band thanks for posting
Very much appreciated your comments about the role of the organ - so often the B3 w/ Leslies - in classic rock. McVie, Winwood, Lord, Hensley, Argent, Wakeman, Garth, and on and on ... all not only added their own grungy melody to so many songs - but helped other soloists to soar.
However sketchy the song - I'll always give it more of a listen if I hear a B-3/Leslie-like tone in there somewhere.
I have seen Fleetwood Mac twice . Years ago in the '70s , probably about a year after this gig , and
about 3 years ago with the same line up . Lindsey was great . Great sound .
Happy New Year, dude. Hope Lindsey can fully recover and get back to singing and playing again. I heard he played at his daughter's school last year.
Lindsay is on my top 5 players, well, maybe top 8. Depending on how big a guitarist list is 🤔.
The finger picking he does is mind blowing.
Tanks F!L👍
He really found his sound when he switched to the Turner Model One. Mick wanted him to play that Gibson but when he found the Model One he never went back.
👍
Buckingham is the reason FM made it Huge!!
Seen them a few times, once back in the day with Peter Green. Lindsey was very under rated, if you seen him play live you would understand. But alas they had Stevie......who had every young boys heart in the 70's
Yeah, but LB still looks great & in shape ❣️ Stevie, umm not so much. JS..
One of the greats!!He doesn't need FM.
So many great bands in the seventies
👍
So goodd ,that when he left ,they needed two people ,to take his place.
Very good analysis Fil!
One of my favorite bands. I saw them live in both incarnations: Peter Green and Lindsey Buckingham. This video was new to me. Thanks, as ever, for the insights. Keep up the good work.
No problem!
Let's not forget the late Bob Welch......nice song "Sentimental Lady"from Bare Trees
Great video Fil. Fleetwood Mac was on every radio station back in those days. And yeah....the vocals were always fantastic! Lots of Pink Floyd influence there to my ears!
Thnx Fil!
Fil, It broke my heart that the new mngmt wouldn't pay the price for to keep Lindsey in the band. Lindsey earned whatever it was that he wanted. To me he was the saving grace of Mac. He's the kind of artist that would make the difference whether I would buy a ticket or not. I agree with you on every facet of his talent. I heard the rumor that it was going to go down like that but I never could conceive that they would hold out. Heavy Sighs and Hearts. 😢✌️
I'd rather see Lindsey Buckingham's solo show than Fleetwood Mac without him. Seen Fleetwood Mac with him and seen him solo. Love them as a group with Lindsey, but without him on board it feels like a covers band.
Mainly because ,he wrote ,sung on,and played rythmn and lead on most tracks.
Jajajajajajajajaja jajajajaja Fleetwood Mac sin Peter Green si parece una banda de covers, admito que Lindsey es un gran músico pero la esencia de Fleetwood Mac era Peter
Lindsey is a mainly self taught guitarist, and uses an interesting style of "Travis Picking"...he adds lots of grace notes to his patterns, almost effortlessly, with that "magic" index finger of his
I’m just sick in love with the window of music where Fleetwood Mac was gaining momentum, Prince was soon to do same, The Rolling Stones, Sly and Fam Stone. I caught myself last week wanting to write down my favorite bands of all time and I could not get any less than twenty. And it’s truly incredible that this sort of sweet spot in time.... bands style and sound varied wildly but the contributions to music were MONUMENTAL.
I’d love to see you react to Snarky Puppy, Leonid and Friends.... theres a lot of irony in what’s playing on ‘pop’ radio when there’s typically MUCH GREATER talent that’s not being acknowledged. Loved this Fil. I really love Lindsey’s unique place in music past and present
This band is so good and probably one of my favorite bands you did a great analysis on them and I'm very happy you covered another song yeah these guys were way underrated they complimented each other very nice Christine McVie had nice vocals also they were an all-around great band I think they were better then the Eagles. In my humble opinion he played pretty darn fast without using a pic 😎🤘🤘🤘👏👍👍❤ the Mac!!
Yeah he did! And does!
Another great analysis on one of my favorite FM performances! 👍🏻
Thanks!
This is one of my top five F/M songs. But if you go back to the original "Buckingham Nicks" album, F/M inherited a lot of those songs written by Stevie and Lindsey. One of my favorite F/M songs is "Crystal". It's just a simple but beautiful song from Buckingham Nicks. But when performed by Fleetwood Mac, it's just a whole new invention, especially with the organ fill in by Christine McVie. IMHO.
If you haven’t seen it, check out the Midnight Special show where they play all four songs. The most famous part is Rhiannon, but the full set is awesome.
FM was blessed to have such talented songwriters and singers in this band. I loved Bob Welch . I would have loved to have seen he and Lindsey work together.
👍
Was Bob Welch in the “Hypnotized” era? Because I love that song, it’s one of the weirdest, spookiest songs I’ve ever heard and it doesn’t even sound like it’s really trying to be that way.
@@melaniefelsher4356
Yes he wrote and sang that song.
Thank you :)
I think Welsh and Lindsey might have worked together a little, but probably only a little, in the studio. Compare versions of "Sentimental Lady" done (1) while Welch was with Fleetwood Mac and (2) when Welch started his solo career after leaving Fleetwood Mac. There's probably a bio somewhere -- be glad for the links!

A lot of people don't talk about the fact that in order to get that sinister low drone on his bass, John would de-tune his E string down to C. He would only use that Fender Precision on that song.
The best thing you do is react/analyze something different than everyone else--it's not just the same ol' most famous songs (and bands!). Those are great songs too, but it's so nice to hear some appreciation and a bit of a breakdown of deeper cuts. Eventually you'll get tired of me commenting on everything! lol but until then, I'll just keep digging around in the back-logs of videos...
British Guitarist, do you even realise your the only one who knows what he's actually talking talking about? Your the BEST !!!! You point out what everyone else is oblivious too. Your spot on or should say Very Accurate and I very much Appreciate that. God Bless !!!
Thanks Holly!
Really insightful analysis, Fil!
Thanks Lizzy!
TOO BAD NO MORE MAC. No More Passion , NO more Voice, OR Lindsey's unique Playing Style. It's always taken 2 guitarists and they STILL can't pull it off. You just can't replace Lindsey Buckingham. MY opinion only and I'm 60. Rock On Lindsey, I'll be fallowing your music. Never Mac without Lindsey. Good job Wings.
👍
But....... Mac was ok for 16 years w/o Christine McVie? Her song writing/ lead/ harmony singing added so much. Guess woman are just expendable. I'd put Mike Campbell, as a guitar player, up against Lindsey any day, but he belongs w/ Tom Petty & THB. There was a reason Stevie would have quite FM in a minute to join TP & THB. Still hard to believe Tom's gone, may he R.I.P.
@@aurum750k8 Not so about Christine. Many, many folks said that FM was not the same without her. She too is underrated and i had seen many a comment about how FM is not the same without her during the 16 years she was gone. She was definitely missed.
So many mishaps kept happening and keeping me from seeing them.Someone fell off stage and whatever else when I finally did get to see them I realized halfway through concert that I was in so much awe of them that mymouth was hanging opeen, got so thirsty. That band had so much charisma and were mezmerizing!!!! They erre an extremely tight band also, I think that was the mezmerizing aspect, I would get so lost in their music and performance!!!!. Watching Stevie perform was magical as well, but the blend of all of them was a once in lifetime matchup and sadly, I'm still grieving!!!! I absolutely loved them!!! There was one concert that shocked the hell out of me, how much this jammed and rocked, don't know if anyone will agree, but it was "Men at Work", the guy jammed on that sax like there was no tommorrow. People repeatedly got them back for encore after encore until the guy came out and said "people!!!, we only have 2 albums!!!!, but they ssstill continued jamming anybody else experience them?!!!
If I'm looking distant in a pic, my wife always adds the caption, "There's Paul day dreaming of Stevie Nicks again." Such a great band. I remember listening to Rumors back in the seventies as a kid. Every song on the album was great, which was kind-of unique in that day. I had the opportunity to get to know Bob Welch a little through the net, we sent some tunes back and forth. He was a really nice guy and a really talented musician. You have heard ebony eyes? Bob and Lindsey were both great guitarists and song writers. Great video.
Cool! Thanks!
I was blown away the first time I saw Lindsey play this, he channels so much intensity and emotion through his playing. One of the reasons why I started playing fingerstyle. He's not afraid to do right out there. Check out a live performance of "Not That Funny," to see him really go over the edge. The three vocalists in the band seem to have very similar ranges which I think is why their vocals blend so well together.
Thanks!
This was my favorite FM song in the 70s. For some reason I thought of it today but couldn't remember the name " I'm so afraid", of course you would be the one to cover it and me find it. Thank you!
Just think about this concert for a moment. They played for at least an hour in the full sun! I won't say there are no bands playing outdoors these days, but I dare say it would be rare if they did so in the day time hours. Another fantastic talent. Big Love is a certain classic. Driving guitar abd fine vocals. Great video Fil.
👍
One of the best that is underrated
The Magnificent Fleetwood Mac Musicianship🎶Thanks for posting👍🏼
No problem!
Glad you mentioned head versus chest/diaphragm vocals. Big difference indeed. Kudos Ace.
Thanks!
Buckingham is the best member of the band by far and firing him the band has become a cash grab.
I'll be surprised if Lindsey doesn't get at least 80% of what he's asking for in his legal complaint.
i'll never understand how one can get fired from his own band? Or is it Mick Fleetwoods Band and he employs everyone else?
Lindsey did not want to tour with the band, and they made a band decision. His own decision was not in the best interest of the band. Bands tour, it’s what they do
@@pfzt It isn't Lindsey's band and never has been. Since Greeny left, it's been Mick and John's band. The clue is in the name: Fleetwood Mac. Mick Fleetwòod and John McVie.
@@musiclover9361 Lindsey is why they became legendary.. nobody else in the history of this great band.. he made their sound ..he produced and arranged all of their music that made them what they are... yeah I know Peter Green founded the band but Lindsey did more to solidify their legendary sound
That bass sounds killer!! THUNDEROUS
👍
I actually almost missed this, thinking it was one from the other day. Still great, though. I mentioned "I'm So Afraid" then being a fave. Nice to see something so early (though 'clammy' ;). I think it was Mick who said 'We'd found our Peter Green'. I loved that Lindsey could do all he could do but still had the soul for a wailing solo. Nice work, Fil.
Thanks!
Ferocious playing! Great video and analysis
Thanks!
A killer singer and guitarist. I feel like Lindsey has a very similar tone of voice to Kenny Loggins
