I’m a great grandad, and can happily say…..Wow, what super children, so well behaved despite their young ages and that long journey. And what a lovely family. A credit to your country and most welcome to ours. I’m born and bred, and live just up the coast by a few miles from Lakenheath. If at any time I can be of service to you, it would be a pleasure. Enjoy your time here, and God bless you all :)
Have fun!! I’m from Lakenheath town I met my husband who was then stationed at raf Lakenheath base. I’ve just moved to Florida been here 2 months. We’ve been together 3 years married for 1 month and have a 2 year old daughter. Watching this makes me miss home so much!!!
Just found this. Welcome to the UK. What a great family. If you ever find yourselves in Dorset in the South West (the scenery is outstanding), pop into the Castletown D-Day Centre. It's a little bit of America in the UK. Dedicated to the 1st Inf Div, 29 Inf Div and Rangers that left from here for bloody Omaha. I really hope you enjoy your stay in the UK :-) From an ex-RAF veteran.
I was based at RAF Honington when i served in RAF, don't know how it it is today but I used to be able to get onto Lakenheath with my raf ID, loved the PX! And the food available. Welcome to UK
What a beautiful family. The Dad playing with the kids jumping. And Mum waving and tired!! Great parents. I had two siblings and parents that took us on world adventures. Have a wonderful life.
Wwlcome to my country and your piece of America on it. I am sure you and your young family will enjoy it. Just have no pre-conceived ideas and take us with a pinch of salt at times and you will fit right in. When i was growing up we had an ex US serviceman married to an englishwoman above, he always went and got american stuff from Lakenheath were he was based.
RAF Mildenhall was my first PCS assignment. I loved being in historic East Anglia. Cambridge is a beautiful city. I would recommend getting a car - you can't get along without it. The woman Beefeater whose picture you posed in front of is Moira (pronounced "Myra") Cameron. She is the first female Beefeater in their 537 year history.
Bury st Edmonds & Ely are really nice places round there too. Either mildenhall or lakenheath are rumoured to have been housing american nuclear weapons for a few months. Who knows if that's true or nor
I'm amazed that you have to take commercial flights? I was married into the RAF and when I joined my husband based in Libya we flew from an RAF Station (having been picked up from a main train station) and flown to the RAF Base at El Adem. Overnight accommodation and meals were provided at no charge.
welcome to england and it is october get ready for winter and its short daylight hours The 21st december the shortest day of the year there will be 7 hours 55 minutes between sunrise and sunset in eastern england sunrise 8am sunset 355pm
Find time to visit raf connigsby when you are here, and a few mi!we further down the road is East Kirkby, home of a Lancaster 'just Jane's and mosquito mkii night fighter. Lots of thing to visit across the country
Welcome to England you are very welcome here , we live 20 mins from the base so wanted to say how positive we feel about having our allies here. Hoping you and your family are very happy . Best wishes Helen and Martin
You know your kids are going to being talking funny by the time you return to the USA. And yes, traditional English beer is brown and served at the temperature of the pub’s cellar.
RAF Lakenheath is a amazing place! My friends dad is RAF Police there and I went on base once! It's unreal compared to English Cities/Towns. It almost doesn't feel like England! It's mostly the shops that give that feeling of "Woah this is strange?" As they mostly sell American foods. Love it! (I also love the life size jet models. My fav life size model plane there is probably the F-15E or the F-4 Phantom or the Spitfire and the memorial. They all were amazing to see!) Enjoy living in RAF Lakenheath it sounds amazing!
Cambridgeshire being in the fens is fairly flat - but once you go West / North you will see how "undulating " England is - especially if you are on a bike!!
Welcome to the mad house. Hope you enjoy our country we are welcoming nation get out and see our country it’s not all about London. I live in the South West it’s beautiful down here.
Plenty to see and do in East Anglia. Ely cathedral and Oliver Cromwell's house are down the road. Cambridge and Norwich arelovely cities. The Norfolk Broads are worth exploring. The royal residence at Sandringham is down the road and so is Walsingham, home to a medieval shrine. On the Suffolk coast you'll find the village of Orford, home to a 12th century castle and Orford Island which is now open to the public. Atomic weapons research was carried out there. It's very eerie and desolate.
Just remember which side of the road we drive on here in Britain! Don't want any repeats of the Harry Dunne incident but if we do I hope you have your diplomatic immunity escape plan already worked out!
Oh and get a car and get off the base. Otherwise it'll be a generic overseas corporate work trip, plane...hotel...office...hotel...plane. Take advantage of the opportunity.
The historically beautiful cathedral at Ely - and the river that runs through it; one of the most famous university cities in the world - Cambridge; the seaside within very easy reach; and no risk of getting shot. A portion of the area is prime agricultural land but there is so much more beside that.
I used to work in an OT ( Operating Theatre ). Not only does everyone wear a mask whilst there, but the OT`s are supplied with a Scavenger System and work under positive pressure ventilation. So what makes you think that wearing masks in offence against a novel virus is ridiculous ?
Perhaps you should think about moving somewhere else - best being many miles outside the UK. Mr Putin has got a bit upset at the activities of the UK government and may decide to give them a " slap on the wrist".

@@flyingfox7854 I’m intrigued by your comment. Are you not able to work out what’s going on. There is a combined effort to demonise Putin using the Ukrainian war as a cover. The main aggressors are the UK, EU and US who want a puppet leader in Russia who will freely supply gas and other commodities at acceptable prices. Whatever the rights and wrongs of the Ukraine situation, the US has caused havoc in many countries and right now together with the UK and EU are acting like thugs.
