Although Americans with licenses can drive UK cars, they are most likely not insured for test drives (unless they already have UK motor insurance in their own name). Motor insurance is mandatory in the UK even for test drives. Some sellers may have insurance for any driver, but most do not.

British hospitals spend a lot of money every year treating people who have been in car accidents. These accidents solely occur because of drivers so British insurance premiums include a share of those costs. A non British insurer won't be paying those costs so my guess is that American companies insurance is not valid in the UK.

RAF Lakenheath is a amazing place! My friends dad is RAF Police there and I went on base once! It's unreal compared to English Cities/Towns. It almost doesn't feel like England! It's mostly the shops that give that feeling of "Woah this is strange?" As they mostly sell American foods. Love it! (I also love the life size jet models. My fav life size model plane there is probably the F-15E or the F-4 Phantom or the Spitfire and the memorial. They all were amazing to see!) Enjoy living in RAF Lakenheath it sounds amazing!

wrong on the v5c, you should be given that by the seller ,either a car dealer or private sale, you fill in your name and address details ,and send your part of to swansea,and your v5c comes back to you in the post ,also it not a mot its a M O T pronounced seperatly, its also not tags its number plates

The only documentation you need on you when you drive here is your Driving License, everything else is stored electronically and can be checked when the police run your plates. Welcome to the UK I hope you and your family enjoy your time here. 👍
