Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) is a real thing. So here in the UK, in the winter months, there really is a lot less daylight and if you are affected by SAD get the vitamins etc, they'll really help. One more piece of advice, if I may, get off base and come out and see the UK. Really experience it. Even if you end up saying 'no I prefer it back home' it's still an experience, and all experiences help you to grow. And I think you will love it. Wer have so much history, and Europe is an easy distance away so you can see even more history and even more cultures. Get off base!!!!! :)
*Some* large US appliances will work in the UK if they have an adaptive power supply that can accept different mains frequencies (should be listed on a plate next to the power input). The reason why just using a transformer isn’t enough is that not only is the UK power grid all 230V (for domestic use) rather than 120V & 240V like in the US, UK power also cycles at 50Hz instead of 60Hz like in the US (hence why PAL video is 25 or 50 fps while NTSC is 30 or 60 fps).
Pretty sweet that the Patriot express is starting up there. I really missed it when I PCS'd from Misawa to Lakenheath in 2002. I hope you guys can adjust to being back in the states. After nine straight years of being overseas, I was ready to punch out (thankfully at 20) after a few months at Little Rock...
Years ago when we lived in Norwich we used to visit Mildenhall (which is next to Lakenheath) for the open day which was laid on by the US Airforce. It was fantastic and enormous. We all loved it especially my kids. There were fantastic air shows and we got really stuffed eating lots burgers and drinking sodas. Great days - Thank you USAF.
When comes to American cars, one factor any American might want to consider when picking a car is the size. Some UK roads will not be suitable for the big Ford trucks, or Dodge Rams so it might be better to get a smaller SUV or a compact car.
Was stationed there from 96 to 2003....had a brand new 96 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a 5.2 V8... should have seen the eyes of the MOT inspector when he saw the size of the exhaust pipe...and yes it was kinda hard driving around there with that beast but at least you have the laws of physics in favor of as I had the larger and heavier beast during the time I was there ... people then to give way as I was bigger and heavy than most cars there at that time...heck one of my coworkers had a dully long bed Chevy while I was there and driving around like it was nothing
Good video guys. A few observations: Not sure I would call driving "culture". 🤔 I applaud your decision to live off base. I can't see the point of moving to another country and not immersing yourselves in the local culture. You can drive on a non UK licence for twelve months from your date of arrival (Note: Date of ARRIVAL!) before needing a UK licence. And beware that the UK test is one of the hardest in the world. 😟
in east anglia 21st june the longest day of the year there is 17 hours 40 minutes between sunrise and sunset on the 21st december the shortest day of the year there is 7 hours 55 minutes
Interesting about driving on the base now driving on the left. Years ago (in the early 90s) when I was posted to the RAF, I visited RAF Lakenheath for a bit of ten pin bowling. It was like little America with the PX etc. Also they drove on the right, only switching to the left when leaving the base. When did that change? Always wonder if that was part of the reason that accident happened when the diplomats wife killed the guy on his motorbike as she was in the wrong side of the road.
Your video is very well done and extremely helpful. You’re both very articulate. The only thing I would say is “anyways” is not a word. Anyway, is a word Just constructive criticism. Hope you’re not offended by this. You are both a very cute couple and I love your house.
Surprising that you need a visa, would’ve thought the deployment papers would simply have a footnote for any spouse / family members & would serve as an implicit dispensation to reside for the duration of the assignment…
How would the UK authorities give permission and know that you/the family members were legally in the country. If you are going to work UK employers need evidence that you are legal. Also banks, landlords etc will require proof.
one thing I would say to Americans moving here is remember the UK is not Just England, England is only one part of the UK, the UK is England Wales Scotland and Northern Ireland, go explore all four home nations of the United Kingdom, it is one country the UK but each part of the UK has a different flavour to it bit like individual states do
Question guys, how good is the internet in Ely? What providers should I stay away from in any area? I’m set to arrive with my family in the middle of January 2023. And does cell phone service have a hotspot option? TY
The internet is pretty decent. It’s not like the speeds in the States, we got around 120-150 up and down (but I believe they were updating the speeds before we left). The company we used was BT which is the largest internet company and gives you access to public WiFi spots all throughout the UK. You can bundle cell service with internet, and it’s very similar to the State’s service expect much cheaper. BT has an option we’re they give you a mobile hotspot if the internet cuts out for free, so you might be able to get that hotspot before they come to set up the internet. Hopefully that helps :)
England has a George Cross as its flag not a union jack meaning England is not the UK. Scotland, England, Wales and NI make up UK not England and all have different flags
Chances are Russia has no functional nuclear warheads, so if they got aggy with NATO then Lakenheath/Mildenhall along with all other USAF bases / RAF bases / shared bases in the UK will become much more busy as they pound Russia back into the Stone Age…
A rather stupid statement - No? If Putin pushes the button everyone gets it....everything is wiped out. So why would you reply with such a stupid statement? We are curious.....
Thank you for liking and subscribing! What should we talk about next? 🇺🇸🇬🇧

Loving your channel. Only just found but will defo continue watching.
Good luck with your move, hope its not too stressful.
My husband and I use T-Mobile still. We also got a prepaid flip phone that we use for occasional phone calls local.

Thank you for rhe video. It was informative and reminded menof imoortant things to consider
Why didn't you just use a duel sim phone ? It would allow you to use both an English and American at the same time.

Not just roads...parking spaces will not a F-150 or Dodge Ram.

I always think that the lovely green and flowering UK Spring is our reward for coming through the Winter

Probably changed in the week after the death of Harry Dunn…
'Diplomats wife'....
She was a wife, but he wasn't a Diplomat and neither was she...both were in the Intelligence world...
That’s the issue with very northern counties close to Scandinavia.. loooonnngggg summer days, dark winters
Are you ordered NOT to mention Mikayla Hayes? She DID push the button and changed the way UK people look at US service deployment forever.

Wouldn't it be useful to have a dual sim phone so that you can have a local number and keep your home number?

Will you carry on driving on the left when you go back to the US? I think it should be optional everywhere.
What’s the name of the bank you were talking about, wise?
Correct. Here’s a link if it helps
wise.com/invite/ih/jordanb65
Can you link how to make an account for the billing portion?
